In October 2025, the European Payments Council of the European Union announced that four more nations were entering into Single Euro Payments Area, also known as SEPA. This brings the total to 41 nations, representing 550 million people that are in SEPA. SEPA does not cover payments in currencies other than the euro, hence this is a euro promoting group. In 2025, the euro has gained 12-13% vs. the US dollar which has declined. Factors such as US financial policies, tariffs, debt, Donald Trump, and threats have been cited as factors. While the euro can drop in value, many are wondering if the euro will replace the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency? Bloomberg has asserted, "There Is an Alternative to the Dollar — It’s the Euro." In addition to SEPA, nations in the BRICS+ alliance are also pushing to reduce, and eliminate, the use of the US dollar in cross-border trade--BRICS+ represents 4.45 billion people--between BRICS+ and SEPA, that is about a total of 5 billion people or 62.4% of the world's population, that are in organizations that are working to reduce use of the US dollar. Plus there are other nations such as Iran, Venezuela, and North Korea, who want to do that as well. Back in 1971, the old 'Plain Truth' magazine warned, "A 'United States of Europe' possessing one single currency – a currency so strong that it will replace the U. S. dollar as the kingpin currency of world trade." Europe did come up with its own currency and we are seeing it increasingly used for cross-border trade. The massively negative impact on the US economy for its dollar to be dethroned as the world's primary reserve and trading currency would be real. Does this align with biblical prophecies? Dr. Thiel, himself, warned in December 2024, that in 2025, "US Dollar Dominance will Decrease," and it has. In this video, Steve Dupuie and Dr. Thiel discuss these matters as well as possibly when the US dollar may be dethroned and that a European currency, with some type of at least implied gold backing, may replace it.

00:00Greetings, friends. This is Steve Dupuy for the Bible News Prophecy Program with Dr. Bob Thiel,
00:09bringing you news and analysis of world events and light of Bible prophecy.
00:14Dr. Thiel, is the U.S. dollar still very secure as the world's reserve currency?
00:20No. And in 2025, for example, the euro has gone up 12 to 13 percent in value against the dollar.
00:26There's a headline this month. Can the euro challenge the dollars of world's reserve currency?
00:32It says some investors are turning to euro as a hedge against U.S. political and fiscal instability.
00:38They say the dollar's pullback offers strategic opening for the euro, which remains the world's second most held reserve currency.
00:45It says euro bonds, digital euro and global trade could be key drivers that strengthen the global position of the euro.
00:51It says even though for eight decades, the U.S. dollar has served as the best backbone of global finance, this is happening.
00:59Things are changing. People want to deal with other currencies and central banks from China to Brazil are reducing their dollar holdings,
01:08as well as having record U.S. debts is scaring these people.
01:11And the European Union says if they can maintain economic stability and do various reforms, the euro could gradually expand to basically take over.
01:24And it says the European Union is not waiting for these things to happen.
01:29We're working on the digital euro backed by the European Central Bank.
01:34So it shouldn't be insolvent. It's going to provide monetary and strategic autonomy, reduce dependence on non-European payments systems,
01:44such as U.S. credit card companies and U.S. big tech wallets.
01:49And then the article concludes with U.S. President Donald Trump trade wars are weakening trade ties between the United States and traditional allies and partners.
01:59And this presents, quote, a unique opportunity for the euro aero to strengthen its role and share in world trade.
02:07Now, notice that they mentioned China and Brazil because they're part of a bloc called BRICS.
02:14Now, earlier, Bloomberg asserted that there's an alternative to the dollar, and it's the euro.
02:20And it says President Trump's mission to restructure the world is affecting this.
02:27Then they say there are alternative monies in the world, and the best of them is the euro.
02:33For Europe to enjoy some privileges that belonged to the U.S. alone for decades, the euro doesn't have to become the preeminent global currency.
02:43And the dollar doesn't have to fall from grace like the sterling did over the first half of the 20th century when the British Empire unraveled.
02:52Well, what else has been going on with the euro?
02:54Well, euro news reported that four more countries, Albania, Moldova, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, are joining the European Union's CEPA scheme.
03:10Now, CEPA stands for the Single European Payment Area.
03:13And they've been adding countries to this.
03:18And in a speech when she was in the Western Balkans, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised Albania's membership in CEPA as a concrete example of financial integration with the European Union.
03:32So is the primary reason these countries have become part of the CEPA payment system is to become members of the European Union?
03:44And that's part of the reason for some of the countries.
03:48But another reason is to push aside the dominance of the U.S. dollar.
03:54The aim of CEPA is to improve the efficiency of cross-border payments.
03:58And they're all done in euros.
04:01Now, there's a bunch of countries that are part of CEPA that are not in the European Union.
04:07Andorra, Iceland, Monaco, Norway, Switzerland, U.K., Serbia, for example.
04:13But if you include all the ones that are doing this, you've got, includes Vatican City that use the euro.
04:21That's actually a total of 41 nations that are part of CEPA.
04:25Well, even with 41 countries, many of which are small, would they really be considered a threat to the U.S. dollar's pagament?
04:33Well, they represent 550 million people.
04:37Okay.
04:38Now, in the last century, the Church of God published that most Americans were asleep as a switch of what's happening over in Europe.
04:48And he said a union surpassing the United States in economic strength was going to form.
04:56And it will get a single currency, a currency so strong that it will replace the U.S. dollar as a kingpin currency of world trade.
05:06And that was published back in 1971.
05:10Now, as it turns out, since that came out, Europe does have its own currency.
05:14Many people consider it a logical replacement of the U.S. dollar for world trade, particularly because of U.S. sanctions and trade policies.
05:22And the Lamentations Chapter 1 warns about the United States being betrayed by friends who become enemies.
05:31Now, most of these nations, 41 nations that are using CEPA, if not all of them, used to primarily use the U.S. dollar for cross-border trade.
05:41Now, among themselves, no, they use the euro.
05:43And, you know, they want the euro to become a viable alternative to the U.S. dollar.
05:51The head of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, said the ongoing changes are happening right now are a global euro moment.
06:05And she says, so Europe also needs to have more military strength to back this up.
06:12In addition to that, the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, we need European independence for the United States as the next major European project.
06:22And that would mean a leading role in the global economy of tomorrow.
06:26Does the EU have any plans on how to go about taking on a leading role in the global economy of tomorrow?
06:36Yeah.
06:37The director of the European Department of the International Monetary Fund, Paul Thompson, declared that Europe is working on making this happen.
06:50Rightly or wrongly, he said the United States benefits from this exorbitant privilege it's got.
06:56And with an increased role, the euro could deal with this because they've got a large area that they deal with.
07:07And you've got the European Union, who in total has bigger GDP than the United States.
07:14And they say basically Europe needs to become more than just a monetary union.
07:19It also needs to become more of a political union.
07:21And he says that the enhancing the global role of the euro is a welcome byproduct of changes needed to make the world, the euro work better for Europe and the European Union.
07:35And basically, in many ways, because Donald Trump has made Europe and its currency more attractive on the world scene.
07:42Because how did President Trump help the euro?
07:48Because tariffs and sanctions and threats of more tariffs and sanctions are causing more nations to turn away from the United States and look toward each other.
07:57Now, you've got, for example, I mentioned a group called BRICS.
08:00Now, they've expanded to 20 countries.
08:02They've got 10 members and 10 partners.
08:04They make up 44% of the world's gross domestic product, 56% of the global population.
08:14Now, if you add the people who are in CEPA, that gives you 5 billion people, which is 62.5% of the world's population.
08:23And also, I mentioned BRICS, this group.
08:24Well, the former and now current president of Brazil, Luis de Silva, he even claimed that eliminating U.S. dollar as reserve currency status was actually one of the reasons that the BRICS alliance formed in the first place.
08:41And they've been trying to stop to use the U.S. dollar for cross-border trade.
08:45But the problem is they don't trust each other either.
08:48And the euro actually has more trust.
08:50Now, as far as Donald Trump goes, he threatened the BRICS alliance to not come up with a currency that could bypass the U.S. dollar.
08:59But I warned when he said that, that that's going to get them to actually want to do it.
09:04And that is what they're trying to do.
09:07And in December of last year, one of the warnings I said to look at for 2025 was U.S. dollar dominance will decrease.
09:16And then I said, consider the following curse of the book of Leviticus.
09:19I will break the pride of your power.
09:21Leviticus 26, verse 19.
09:25But what does that mean?
09:26I will break the pride of your power.
09:29And what does that have to do with the U.S.?
09:31Well, that undoubtedly includes military and economic possibilities.
09:37Consider that the United States dollar is the pride of the United States.
09:41It's backed by nothing.
09:42And it's actually the United States' biggest export.
09:44It's a prideful thing.
09:47And it does project U.S. power around the world.
09:50Now, debt and other issues and sanctions have given nations motivations to work to dethrone the U.S. dollar.
09:59The economy of the United States has been financed to a great degree by foreigners willing to provide goods to the U.S. on credit,
10:05as well as the United States profiting from the rest of the world trade that is dollar-based.
10:11And when the U.S. dollar ceases to become the world's primary currency, that's going to foster massive inflation.
10:20And it's going to cause you – things are going to cost the United States a lot more.
10:25Now, there was an article that was published a while back.
10:28It says, what will happen to the U.S. economy if the dollar is no longer the reserve currency?
10:32It says, what happens if U.S. treasury bills lose their attraction as reserve instruments?
10:40Well, interest rates are going to go up a lot.
10:45It becomes more expensive to buy imported goods, et cetera.
10:50And this would be devastating to the U.S. economy.
10:54It's going to be much worse than people imagine.
10:57Imagine, in the Bible, in Habakkuk chapter 2, verses 6 to 8, God warns about a power that loses up pledges to itself.
11:08Pledges in modern times would be things like treasury bills.
11:11And said, will not your creditors rise up against you and take you over?
11:16And so that's in the Bible.
11:18Habakkuk wrote that about 2,400 years ago.
11:21And the United States is most indebted nation of all time.
11:24This, by the way, was not a prophecy about the tiny little nation of Israel.
11:28They don't have much debt, especially to unfriendly nations, but the United States does.
11:34The time is going to come.
11:35The U.S. dollar will be dethroned, and this will inflict great pain.
11:40Now, you've got the European Union with the SEPA stuff.
11:44You've got the BRICS nations.
11:46Then you've got these other places.
11:47You've got Iran, Venezuela, North Korea.
11:50They want to dethrone the U.S. dollar, too.
11:52The United States has been gambling with its currency for many years through its policies and sanctions and using it as a weapon.
12:01They think they can get away with it, but one day they're not going to.
12:06And as I mentioned before, the BRICS nations, they want to ditch the dollar.
12:10What about Europe?
12:11Well, they're mad at the United States for many reasons, including Donald Trump, trade issues, and all the rest.
12:18But dethroning the U.S. dollar will cause massive economic problems for the United States, much more than anyone believes.
12:25The standard of living in the United States has been raised or subsidized for many years because of the status of the U.S. dollar.
12:32That status is weakening.
12:33And this ultimately is going to severely hurt the United States.
12:37Just how much longer does the United States dollar have before it is dethroned?
12:42We're not sure.
12:44It could happen, though, I think, within the next four to seven years, particularly as the European Union is increasing in size and its financial footprint.
12:51By the way, it wants all the Balkan states to be part of it.
12:54And some of them aren't in SEPA yet, but I think they're also using the currency.
12:58Now, it's still going to take time for the U.S. dollar to be fully dethroned.
13:02But I believe gold and Europeans are going to be involved.
13:08One of the purposes of coming up with the euro in the first place was to eliminate or reduce the need for European nations to use U.S. dollars for trade.
13:18And that has absolutely happened.
13:21And don't think that the United States will not one day, excuse me, that Europeans will not one day support the complete top of the United States, as well as the United States itself, which we can read in Daniel 1139.
13:33Anyway, to summarize, the euro is up 12 to 13 percent against dollar this year.
13:39And U.S. debt policies are weakening the value of the U.S. dollar.
13:43The Trump administration sanctions tariff and trade policies are driving nations away.
13:47You've got the BRICS group that was partially formed to get around this.
13:51You've got now 41 nations with SEPA for Europe.
13:56And, you know, we know the Bible talks about the rise of Europe as the end-time Babylonian trade power.
14:02And this is helping to get it there.
14:05And that's not going to end well for the United States for his dollar.
14:07After the U.S. dollar is gone, the Bible shows that Europe will dominate international trade and finance.
14:14And this is going to involve gold as well.
14:17So whether or not they use the euro or something else, I think they're going to have at least a gold-backed implied currency.
14:24The end of the U.S. dollar dominance is coming.
14:28There are many unintended consequences of Donald Trump's statements and practices, including what will happen to U.S. dollar.
14:35Thank you, Dr. Thiel.
