00:00I think Sauce has to prove it for another year.
00:02That's crazy.
00:03Last year, Rye, he was not very good on the field.
00:08So your version of not very good is where I think you're a little too hard on him.
00:14His version of not very good was still one of the top five corners
00:20or top six corners in the NFL.
00:22I couldn't disagree anymore.
00:25So you're telling me you're taking Stingley, Horn, Ramsey, Sertan,
00:28and Terrell all over him?
00:30I'm not saying I'm taking them over him.
00:32I'm saying that's what we're talking about here.
00:34But Jeff fans always have the claim, and it's wrong,
00:38that Sauce Garner was a great corner last year.
00:40He was not.
00:41You want to go on PFF?
00:43He was 46.
00:44You want to talk about watching every – we watch every play, you and I.
00:47Did he make one play, Sauce, last year?
00:50One play that changed the course of a game.
00:52He made the interception.
00:55At the end, Rye, it was like a punt.
00:59It didn't really change the game much.
01:00It was kind of like a give-me interception.
01:02Yeah, it made a turnover.
01:04Yeah, that was just one play.
01:07But I'm saying, Rye, like, don't you want more?
01:10What – has Sauce – I know the two all-pro things, first team,
01:14no one's done it to start their career.
01:15I got it.
01:16What have you done for me lately?
01:17He was not good enough last year for me to feel comfortable
01:22with paying him that money.
01:24And I have other reasons, too.
01:26I don't – I think the kid needs to grow up a little bit.
01:28I've spoken about that.
01:29I'm not going to get more into that.
01:31That's my opinion.
01:32People disagree, whatever.
01:33Yeah, I don't agree with that one either.
01:36Yeah, well, you know –
01:37He's done nothing wrong off the field.
01:41Hey, go on Twitter when you have a chance, and I'm saying this,
01:45and I hate saying this.
01:46It's social – Frankie, it's social media.
01:47Would you rather –
01:47Look at the stuff that he has said on streams.
01:49Look at the people he's sometimes around.
01:51Let me ask you a question.
01:52Let me ask you a question.
01:53I'm worried a little about him.
01:54People are willing to go head over heels for Tyreek Hill
01:57because of how much of a game-changer he is.
01:59The headaches off the field, though, that ain't worth it.
02:02And guess what?
02:03He's getting paid top dollar.
02:05Like –
02:05I saw St. Tyreek Hill on the field.
02:08All right, but he's a top five corner in the NFL.
02:11You cannot name five corners better than him right now.
02:15I can't, but it's possible.
02:20It's possible.
02:21But, right, just because you're the fourth or fifth best corner in this NFL today
02:26with the corners we have out there, of which I don't think any are that great
02:31considering some of the corners we've seen.
02:33Stingley's great.
02:34That doesn't mean – Stingley has to do it another year, though.
02:38Sertan could be great.
02:39But he already got paid, though.
02:40That's what I'm trying to say.
02:41They paid him because they believe in him.
02:43And, again, fully guaranteed he's only getting 48 – he's getting total guarantee
02:4789 million.
02:48Like, they locked him up and said, yes, next six years, we're going to –
02:52like, next five years, we're going to believe in you.
02:55Same thing with J.C. Horn.
02:56J.C. Horn got $100 million.
02:58He got $70 million guaranteed.
03:00What I'm trying to say to you, Frankie –
03:02Both those teams, though, have – sorry, have comparable offensive structures
03:06and quarterback play where they can say those teams,
03:09let's give a corner that much money to –
03:13Who's the quarterback for the Jets right now?
03:16Nobody.
03:16That's my problem.
03:17My problem is we have bigger fish to fry than to pay a corner $30 million a year.
03:22I could not disagree more.
03:23We have to worry about –
03:24If you're going to draft a quarterback this upcoming year,
03:26which the Jets are going to do – I got news for everyone.
03:28They're going to draft a quarterback in the first round this upcoming year.
03:31Yeah, probably.
03:32They're going to because they need to take a developmental quarterback
03:35to sit behind Justin Fields next year if he's back next year.
03:38You should be working on building your core of your team.
03:42Source Gardner is a core of your team.
03:44And if you really don't believe that, Frankie, then you should be trading him now.
03:47Don't even bother letting him play this year.
03:49Because if you truly don't believe in him long term,
03:51don't even have him on the roster.
03:53Because that's what you're talking about right now.
03:55You're saying, I'm going to see it for another year.
03:58Clearly, you don't believe –
03:59But you're also saying right now at this time
04:01that you don't believe in investing him long term for the future,
04:06which means you don't believe in the long term.
04:08If Source Gardner was on the Texans, I think paying him makes sense.
04:13We, next year, getting a rookie quarterback in here, most likely,
04:17we have to give him a running back.
04:19We have to give him maybe another wide receiver.
04:21We might want to invest in a tight end.
04:23They may want to look at the offensive line market.
04:25I don't know where they're going to look.
04:27You got to get that quarterback support.
04:29If you have all this money tied up, it's a salary cap league.
04:31All this money.
04:32You're going to be in some issues.
04:33Ryan, they're going to have to pay –
04:35They're going to pay Garrett.
04:36They're going to maybe look at paying Jermaine.
04:38AVT has a deal pending.
04:39We have a young roster.
04:41Eventually, these guys –
04:42Brees wants money this year.
04:43Brees ain't getting paid.
04:44The Jets aren't paying Brees Hall.
04:45I got to do this for everyone.
04:46Well, you better hope Braylon Allen is Derek Henry's little brother out there.
04:51You can draft another running back just like anyone else.
04:54You can always draft another running back in the draft
04:55and find some other running backs.
04:57Let's be real.
04:58The running back is the last thing you need to focus on right now in this roster.
05:01I tend to agree there, but I am just saying –
05:04I think, Frankie, I'm going to –
05:07You can make moves in the future.
05:07I'm going to put you on the spot, man.
05:08I don't agree with this take at all.
05:11I don't think it's a good take.
05:12Most people don't.
05:13I think it's a really bad take.
05:14I think, to be honest with you, Sauce Gardner is a foundational piece
05:18that most teams would kill for to be building their defense around.
05:22And you don't have a quarterback invested with money right now.
05:25And even if you did draft a quarterback in the first round,
05:27it doesn't cost you much asset-wise and money-wise
05:30to draft a quarterback in the first round.
05:32So it's not going to kill you when you build the rest of your team out.
05:35In fact, that's when you're supposed to pay the rest of your players
05:37at premium positions, which guess what, Frankie?
05:39You need a corner one if you want to win in the NFL.
05:42Most teams need a corner to lock down other wide receivers
05:46if you want to win football games.
