00:00All right, big news just dropped from the blue shirts.
00:02The Rangers just named JT Miller the 29th captain in franchise history.
00:07So the same kid that they drafted in the first round back in 2011
00:10is now the guy with the C stitched across his chest.
00:14GM Chris Drury said it best himself.
00:17Miller embodies what it means to be a Ranger.
00:19And if you know Rangers history, you know the C ain't just a letter.
00:23From Bill Cook to Brian Leach to the legend himself, Marc Messier,
00:27the captaincy is sacred in this city.
00:30Adam Fox, Vincent Trocek, Mika Zavanejad, and Artemi Panarin
00:34were all named alternate captains.
00:37So Miller is replacing Jacob Truba as team captain
00:40after the defenseman was dealt to Anaheim in December.
00:43And once Truba was dealt, the Rangers actually finished out the season
00:47without anyone wearing the C on their chest.
00:49So Miller has been through his ups and downs.
00:52He's bounced around the league, and now he's back here
00:55to lead the charge at the Garden.
00:57He rejoined the Rangers last season after a midseason trade from the Canucks
01:01where he was an alternate captain for four seasons,
01:04and he immediately became the man in New York for a struggling Rangers team.
01:09He posted 35 points.
01:11That's 13 goals and 22 assists in only 32 games.
01:15So over 871 career games, he's recorded 260 goals and 449 assists.
01:23The Rangers have already opened up their training camp last week
01:26with the rookies and preseason open soon.
