00:00they are 100 percent open for business and and that was the first domino to fall here and
00:08i think the next one that we're all just kind of waiting on is obviously artemi panarin um
00:14you know they obviously started the process uh on what very well could be their next trade
00:21um and that is by holding artemi out of the lineup wednesday night and they are not expected to
00:28play him again um until you know he's traded so at least before the olympic break which uh begins
00:38after their last game on february 5th and you know if if this is you know i'm sure once the trade is
00:44actually completed we'll have plenty of time to dive into artemi panarin's tenure as a ranger and
00:51and how great it was and and where he ranks all time uh for for the rangers organization but
00:58it's it's a tough day for the i feel like it went so fast i feel like even though he was here for
01:05as long as he was it didn't feel like that much time when you have that star power in your lineup
01:14like that every night you almost take it for granted yeah i mean he signs a seven-year deal
01:20it's a big deal i remember you know i'm still going i'm still playing so i'm paying close
01:26attention to things that are going on around the league and always with the rangers because i
01:31remember just anytime i was a free agent um i'd call my agent asking if there's a chance i can get
01:39back so you know when they you sign a guy to that it uh eats up a bunch of cap space and and even
01:48having said that man what he was worth every cent he was worth every penny and you know we don't need
01:55to do the obituary i guess now because he is still a member of the team um sort of you know he's not
02:04going to play and it affords him an opportunity and i think they've given him that and his agent
02:08uh the opportunity to try to negotiate uh outside it and then uh you know i don't know if it's a uh
02:17sign and trade or a trade or whatever you want to do but he he was you know 18 2018 letter
02:26was put out and that fast-tracked everything because of one guy and it was number 10 and and look
02:32he's there were deficiencies in his game that were you'd absolutely take because of what he could
02:42do he could bring people out of their seats so from an entertainment factor yeah he's he checks
02:47every box fans go little kids want to watch them they get the jersey and fans are getting out of
02:53their seats watching this guy play because he's such a unique player and and just a brilliant
02:57offensive mind um which you know i i look at players now as a coach for these guys and try
03:06to take things and and i can't teach anything that he does it's incredible like it's it really is the
03:12way he manipulates space uh yeah he's he was a great ranger should be remembered as such i know you
03:21probably weren't on the ice against him very much during your seven league seven seasons overlapping
03:26with i had to kill penalties still it was not not a ton of fun what what was he like to face as an
03:33opponent from where you were sitting you know it was it was just it was magic like you think you
03:40have him boxed into a spot and he would find space to get a passer i remember having him angled
03:47blocked out nowhere for him to go you know my i've got my left shot stick on his right and he
03:55can't and then he just will do like a step back almost like steph curry which people don't do on
04:01the ice and find a guy streaking with speed like how did i get how did that get through me i don't
04:07know how he just did that and you know has two or three options in his mind and that he can go to
04:14if he gets boxed in or gets in trouble because he never looked at the puck he was his vision was
04:20is elite and and he can still wire it too he can shoot it beat you with a shot um i was in a hotel
04:29room in pittsburgh i probably told the story for the game seven waiting to have a knee scope because
04:34it hurt my knee in game uh yeah game six i believe and he uh yeah he scores that goal game seven
04:44in overtime um it's a big moment so that's it's one of his biggest as a ranger not fun to play
04:51against couldn't grab him couldn't touch him yeah i can only imagine and it feels like he's been
04:57linked to just about every team it seems i mean i've seen and heard so many different teams that are
05:03interested obviously sharks panthers ducks capitals kings stars red wings golden knights
05:10um but there does appear to be a desire to have an extension in place um but the ball is in artemis
05:17court and uh he is likely weighing his options right now um but i i'm curious obviously the
05:25answer is is different for you but if you were in his position you know you never won a stanley cup
05:31you're 34 are you prioritizing stability of an extension or going to a contender
05:38so for me it's it's i would go to a contender but again it's me and i'm not artemi because
05:44like look what he did with the rangers in 2018 like they went to two conference finals and they
05:52were supposed to be you know a full-on teardown and he just fast-tracked that he has the ability
05:57to turn teams into relevancy if they're not so you know where he's linked to right now you'd have
06:04to imagine um you know and the sharks is an interesting one because it looks like they make
06:10the playoffs and then you add him and it's you know it's it's pretty interesting how far and how
06:19many more points you can get as a team just with him that's just what he's done but he he probably
06:24thinks i can go and make any of these teams contenders and there might be teams that are
06:29on the bubble this year and think you know if we just had him all year we'd be in a way different
06:35space i think you know looking at top power play units you know you're going to go to one where
06:42their top units their top unit it's been like that for a couple years and you're going to be on the
06:47second unit i don't think artemi's going there i think he wants yeah he wants the ball he wants it
06:52give me the rock and and so that's what i think he's looking at put it in my hands and that's how
06:58he should think because why wouldn't he look at his numbers he's been a superstar in this league top
07:03five winger for sure in almost every year he's played in the nhl so his mindset would be different
07:10to mine because he's just way better of player quite simply different if you can find if you can find
07:17a team that's close and you still get the rock and it's still in your hands that's the best best of
07:24both worlds they give you the extension you want and you know everybody eats everybody's happy
