00:00The Yankees win 9-6 in Game 3 of the ALDS.
00:05Coming back from 6-1, down in the third inning,
00:09they piece together, hit after hit after hit,
00:11get some luck with a dropped ball by the third baseman,
00:14and then the Aaron Judge moment happens.
00:18A three-run home run to tie it at 6.
00:21Jazz with the go-ahead home run to make it 7-6.
00:25The Yankees piece together a couple more runs against this Blue Jays bullpen,
00:28and now, Tommy, the Yankees go to Game 4 tomorrow at 7 o'clock.
00:32Their ace, Cam Schlittler, on the mound.
00:35I'm calling him the ace considering what he's giving them,
00:37and they're going to face a Blue Jays bullpen game
00:40in a game that can force Game 5 back to Toronto.
00:45Your thoughts?
00:46Huge. Momentum-changing win.
00:49Everybody was down in the dumps, thought the season was over.
00:536-1. Carlos Rodon gives you nothing.
00:55That's a remarkable win for the Yankees.
00:59Remarkable.
01:00They showed fight that we hadn't seen for a bit.
01:02Yep.
01:03Hadn't seen it at all this series.
01:04The bats hadn't gotten going.
01:05I don't care about that.
01:06I stand by not caring about those seven runs in Game 2.
01:10That was great.
01:12The bullpen was the difference maker tonight.
01:14Lights out.
01:15Six and two-thirds scoreless innings tonight.
01:17That was the difference.
01:17Obviously, Aaron Judge is homer.
01:19He finally gets his moment.
01:20That swung the whole thing.
01:21But the bullpen keeping it at 6-1, keeping you in the game, was gigantic.
01:27They were horrible in Game 1, taking out heel.
01:30Luke Weaver gave up a few huge runs.
01:32Will Warren was terrible in Game 2.
01:35Keeping it at 6-1 was huge, and the offense showed a ton of fights.
01:40Fernando Cruz, amazing, coming in in a tough situation with a man on base,
01:44getting out of it, and pitching well in the next inning.
01:47Tim Hill, incredible.
01:48It was a huge out for Tim Hill.
01:50Huge outs.
01:51And then Devin Williams and Duvall, just give them the ball,
01:54and they're just getting outs for you.
01:56And then you close it with Bednar.
01:57There were only 21-22 pitches there for Bednar to get the five outs there.
02:02That's really impressive.
02:04And look, Aaron Judge, we can't state it enough.
02:06We said it all week leading up into this because of how bad his first two games were.
02:12The fact that he struck out with the bases loaded in Game 1,
02:15and all the talk surrounding him was this guy is just not built for the postseason.
02:18He can't handle the moment.
02:19Tonight, on a pitch that should not have been hit for a home run by any other human on this planet.
02:25I am not kidding you.
02:26I am not trying to speak like crazy,
02:30but I don't believe any other human being on this planet could have hit that ball
02:34the way Aaron Judge did tonight for a home run.
02:36That was incredible.
02:37Keeping it fair.
02:39Keeping that pitch fair way in on your hands and hammering it was incredible.
02:44It was off the pole.
02:45You don't see that very often.
02:46When you're saying off the pole, you usually see it off the net,
02:50which gives you another couple feet.
02:52This did not have much left.
02:54If that was probably less than a foot to the left, it's a foul ball,
02:59and who knows where this game goes.
03:01Incredible to keep that fair.
03:02Down 0-2 in the count.
03:03Down 0-2 in the count.
03:06That's the at-bat the Yankee fans have been looking for.
03:09Facing Varland, one of their best relievers.
03:10Pumping 100.
03:12It's been a lot of singles from Aaron Judge.
03:14A lot of passing the baton.
03:16Finally, they passed the baton to the guy, and he does the damage.
03:19He needs to do the damage.
03:20He has to stop passing the baton, and he did it.
03:24That's the sixth home run from Aaron Judge in elimination games in the playoffs.
03:28Shocked to see that.
03:28Shocked to see it.
03:29It ties David Ortiz for the most all-time in postseason history.
03:33So, for all the talk of Aaron Judge not being able to get it done in the postseason,
03:37he's hitting over 500 people, and tonight just put the absolute cherry on top
03:41for what he's done so far.
03:43And this, hopefully, hopefully, Tommy, can propel this offense and this team
03:49to take that next step and take game four by the throat.
03:52You have a prime opportunity.
03:54Your best pitcher in the postseason, Cam Schliller, is going on the mound tomorrow.
03:59He gets to prove himself again.
04:01Another opportunity for him to dominate.
04:03He didn't do well against the Blue Jays in the regular season for the time he faced
04:06and got pulled in the second inning.
04:08Gave up four earned runs.
04:10This is his chance to get some retribution.
04:12This is his chance to say, I can stay off elimination for another day.
04:16And I'm looking forward to seeing how Aaron Judge can continue what he's doing right
04:19now in this postseason.
04:20I do think you're a little early to calling him an ace.
04:22It's fine.
04:22It's one start.
04:24I guess postseason matters a lot more.
04:26But tomorrow is when he can make that maybe.
04:30Solidify.
04:30I don't know about solidify, but make you start feeling maybe that he does have
04:34a little bit of that in him.
04:37It would be great.
04:38It would be really cool.
04:38I know it was personal for him playing Boston, playing the hometown,
04:42eliminating a lot of his, I'm sure, friends and family's team.
04:46He doesn't have that tomorrow.
04:48He has keeping his team alive, but he doesn't have that personal factor
04:53that he felt when he came to Boston.
04:54So we'll see.
04:56Did he need that?
04:57Was that the difference in it, having that sort of motivation, that connection?
05:00Or is he a guy that has the stones to go out in a big moment
05:03and keep his team alive?
05:05We're going to find out tomorrow.
05:07He pitched really badly against the Blue Jays in the regular season
05:10in his final start against him, at least.
05:12We're going to find out.
05:14We're really going to find out.
05:15I loved what I saw from the lineup tonight.
05:17The one thing I didn't like that we saw, the defense was bad.
05:22Yep.
05:23The defense, when they fell down 6-1, Cody Bellinger has to catch that ball,
05:26and if he catches that ball, he's doubling up Schneider,
05:28who is already basically standing on third base.
05:30Huge play in this game.
05:32And then throwing it in, Grisham, now Volpe, I think, is going out there,
05:37so he doesn't have a cutoff guy, so he's got to throw it to Jazz.
05:39He thinks he's just getting the out of second,
05:41not realizing there's probably a playoff at home.
05:43Yep.
05:44Not enough urgency and communication there.
05:48Don't love that.
05:49The defense has to be sound.
05:51The Blue Jays are going to put the ball in play.
05:53One of our keys before the game is sound defense.
05:56It got ugly there for a second.
05:58They played well the rest of the way defensively.
06:00Got an arrow, the final out right there, man.
06:02Great.
06:02Hurt left hand, thought he was about to get pulled out of the game,
06:05and then all of a sudden he has a base hit.
06:07He is a gamer.
06:07He is a gamer.
06:08Yep.
06:08He is a gamer.
06:09I wonder if we see him at shortstop.
06:12Volpe's swings have not been good.
06:13It's not good.
06:14Six strikeouts the last two games.
06:15Six strikeouts in the last eight at-bats.
06:18He's not competitive in these at-bats right now.
06:20No, it hasn't looked good.
06:21He's not giving you anything right now.
06:22I know he was great in the Red Sox series for you.
06:25This is must win, though, and I wonder if Caballero just gives you something more,
06:29considering the speed, and he put the ball in play,
06:31and he can steal bases on Mike Volpe, who just isn't doing any of that right now.
06:35He's not getting on.
06:36He can steal bases, but he's not getting on.
06:37He doesn't do it at enough successful rate as Caballero does.
06:40No, he doesn't.
06:41Look, we'll see.
06:42I don't think they're going to mess with what they have.
06:44I'm sure Boone's going to try and keep his bench depth there,
06:48because we saw tonight, Rosario, huge leadoff single,
06:51and he came in and did the job really well for them, I think.
06:54It was big.
06:56He used them in the third inning.
06:57It was the right play.
06:58It didn't work.
07:00We were all asking for it.
07:01I thought it was the right play to go there.
07:03When they take Bieber out, bring in a lefty.
07:05You go to Rosario, who's been really good against lefties.
07:07He had to hit the next at bat.
07:10I'm interested in what the lineup is.
07:11A bullpen game, do they just stick with what they've been doing?
07:15You definitely can't give them lanes to bring in a lefty,
07:18so you have to go left-right.
07:20Does that change anything at all?
07:22I think they've been going left-right, if I'm remembering the lineup correctly,
07:27but we'll see.
07:28Maybe Caballero does add a little bit.
07:30But Trent Grisham still didn't have a great game tonight.
07:34I'd like to see that maybe change a little bit.
07:36He had a big double.
07:37Okay.
07:40Maybe.
07:40We'll see.
07:41I'm interested in the lineup.
07:41They still need more from Stanton.
07:43They still need more from Bellinger.
07:44Those guys have really not done much for you this postseason.
07:48Jazz with a big home run tonight.
07:50Hopefully that can spark something in him because they need him to be a force in the lineup.
07:54Look, I think the lineup clearly is getting something rolling here.
07:58They're stringing together hits.
08:00The home run, obviously, from Judge is the big moment.
08:02The home run from Jazz, we can't overlook that because of the Judge home run.
08:07That put them ahead.
08:08That gave them the lead.
08:09That's massive.
08:10Chance runs were huge.
08:12Look, Wells does seem to give you better at-bats.
08:15I think McMahon can still give you good quality at-bats.
08:18But the rest of the lineup, besides Judge, needs to produce now, too.
08:22They need to start taking their force.
08:24I'm looking to see, do we have a Tino Martinez, Bernie Williams type moment where Cody Bellinger
08:28or Giancarlo Stanton can be that for you and help win you the game tomorrow night?
08:33It's going to have to be the others because John Schneider is not going to pitch to Aaron Judge much.
08:36No.
08:37Not after this.
08:38Exactly.
08:39Not many other times this series.
08:40He's been walking them all season long.
08:41He comes up as the tying run with a base open, by the way.
08:45It was first and second.
08:46There's a base open there.
08:47It's on third base, but there's a base open.
08:49And the one time he chooses not to walk him, he hits the game-tying, series-changing home run.
08:56Aaron Judge is not going to get many more looks.
08:58It's got to be Jazz, who hit the homer today.
09:01It's got to be Giancarlo Stanton, who's yet to find his playoff form yet.
09:04It's got to be Cody Bellinger, who hasn't found it yet and had a terrible play in the outfield.
09:08It's got to be the others because they're not going to allow Aaron Judge to do what he did tonight.
09:13I agree.
09:13I agree.
09:14But I'm looking forward to seeing what happens tomorrow night.
09:17Game 4, Cam Schlitter versus the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen.
09:21Vlad Guerrero killed him again tonight.
09:23Clearly, that's going to be the focus here tomorrow.
09:25Can Schlittler navigate around Guerrero and get him to make some outs?
09:30We'll see.
09:31But it's going to be exciting.
09:32We're going to be here again tomorrow night, 7 o'clock, first pitch.
09:36Final thoughts?
09:37I like the matchup of Schlittler versus Vlad.
09:40Because we saw in that Bednar at bat late, he does seem to kind of get to Vlad a little bit.
09:4598 Bednar.
09:46You're going to see 100 from Schlittler.
09:48Hopefully, at the top of the zone.
09:50Maybe he can swing underneath it, swing through it.
09:52That's going to be the matchup to watch, obviously.
09:54Vlad has been incredible.
09:56Do they just pitch around him?
09:57Or do they see what the 100-mile-an-hour fastball from Schlittler looks like?
10:00I want to see what that looks like.
10:01I want to see what that looks like first time around.
10:05Yeah.
10:06And then the bullpen is going to be big again tomorrow, too, as they have to be consistent.
10:09They have to give us another big day tomorrow.
10:11Bednar only 20 pitches for five outs this year.
10:13I know.
10:13That allows you to go back to him.
10:14If you need five, maybe even six, all hands on deck in the playoffs.
10:18You ask more than what you did in the regular season.
10:21Devin Williams didn't go in for more than three outs all season.
10:24He asked four from him in this game.
10:27Bednar is available for six outs if you need it tomorrow,
10:29especially because he only needed 20 pitches to get five tonight.
10:32Well, we'll be here tomorrow night for the Pinchstripe Post Watch Party.
10:35Game four, 7 o'clock tomorrow night.
10:37Tommy and Ryan, go Yankees.
10:40We'll see you tomorrow.
10:40We'll see you tomorrow.
