Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A sensational case has emerged involving Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Deepak Giri and his fiancée Poonam Pandit, after a woman, claiming to be Deepak’s girlfriend, lodged a serious complaint accusing him of sexual assault, blackmail, extortion, and threats to life.

According to the FIR filed at Bhawanpur police station on Saturday night, the complainant — an officer in the Milk Development Department, Meerut — alleged that Deepak laced her cold drink with drugs, made obscene videos of her, and later used them to blackmail her for ₹40–50 lakh.

The FIR names five accused — Deepak Giri (former district president, SP Yuva Sabha), his father Krishnapal, his brothers Kuldeep and Pradeep, and his fiancée Poonam Pandit.

The woman said Deepak first contacted her via Facebook in 2018, took her phone number, and invited her to meet. During one such meeting, she was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted in a house in Gangasagar. Later, she claims, he repeatedly exploited and blackmailed her using the videos.

“He married me in June 2021 at Arya Samaj Temple for show, just to silence me,” the complainant stated in her FIR. “After his engagement to Poonam Pandit, he and his family started threatening to kill me.”

The victim further alleged that on October 16, she was held hostage and assaulted by Deepak and his brothers when she went to meet him in Mawana. Two days later, on October 19, she was allegedly forcibly taken into a car and threatened by Deepak and Poonam, who demanded that she withdraw her allegations posted on social media.

Following these revelations, Deepak Giri was removed from his SP post. Earlier, his engagement photos with Poonam Pandit — known for her role in the farmers’ protest and her 2022 Assembly run from Syana, Bulandshahr on a Congress ticket — had gone viral, prompting the victim to create a public uproar outside his home.

The woman also released a 26-minute video on Facebook, claiming that she and Deepak lived together in a house they purchased in 2021, where she endured “four years of torture and blackmail.”

Meanwhile, Poonam Pandit said:
“I will not allow injustice to happen to any woman. If Deepak turns out to be a fraud, I will break the engagement myself and support the victim in filing an FIR.”

Police have registered a case under serious IPC and cybercrime sections, including those related to sexual assault, blackmail, criminal intimidation, and cheating.

Investigations are underway.
