Man in custody following car crash that killed three-year old boy

A man is in police custody after a car crash led to a three-year-old boy dying in the Beenleigh police station foyer. The toddler and a 22-year-old woman had presented to the station following a single vehicle crash nearby.

00:00A car crash at 5am this morning led to the tragic outcome at the Beanley Police Station.

00:08Police say the child was unresponsive when he was brought in but despite CPR could not be saved.

00:15It's alleged the toddler, his mother, her ex-partner and a younger son were travelling at Stapleton

00:21when the car veered into bushland.

00:23We will determine if there's any sort of mechanical reason for the vehicle to have driven off the road

00:28or whether it was caused by human actions.

00:31Police say the woman asked a passing motorist to take her and her toddler to the police station.

00:36It's alleged the man left the scene with the younger child.

00:39Police found the man and a one-year-old boy at a home about 6.30 this morning.

00:44The boy was taken to hospital.

00:46Authorities say the man has been charged with a breach of a temporary protection order.

00:51He is now in custody.

00:53At this stage it's really early in our investigation.

00:55We have a lot of enquiries to make but we are appealing for the public to come forward

00:59with any information that they may have.
