00:00The man faced court here on the Gold Coast this morning charged with an aggravated contravention of a domestic violence order and breaching bail.
00:10Police say that man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was behind the wheel of a car carrying a woman and two young children when it crashed into bushland south of Brisbane on Saturday morning.
00:21According to detectives, a witness took the woman and the three-year-old boy to the Beanley police station while the man left the scene with a one-year-old boy before emergency services arrived.
00:31Police at the station performed CPR but the boy had serious head injuries and could not be revived.
00:37The man's defence lawyer, Shannon Fletcher, described the incident as traumatic and told the court the woman had provided a statement to police accusing the man of holding a gun to her head
00:48but said there was no evidence or mention of a gun in the police report of the crash.
00:53Ms Fletcher told the court her client felt obliged to enter the vehicle because the woman had made threats to the children.
01:00No charges have been laid in relation to the crash or the boy's death.
01:04The man did not enter a plea and was refused bail. He'll remain in custody until his next court appearance in November.
