00:00This 75 million dollar Ontario ad attacking US tariffs has backfired and now it's being pulled
00:08to save trade talks. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in a statement. We've achieved our goal
00:16having reached US audiences at the highest levels. Our intention was always to initiate a conversation
00:22about the kind of economy that Americans want to build and the impact of tariffs on workers
00:27and businesses. The ad, led by Ford and featuring a 1987 Ronald Reagan speech, warned about the
00:35dangers of tariffs. The message did not sit well with Donald Trump. Within hours, he announced
00:41on Truth Social. Tariffs are very important to the national security and economy of the
00:47USA. Based on their egregious behaviour, all trade negotiations with Canada are hereby
00:53terminated. Trump's decision threatens to derail months of trade talks with Ottawa. But on
00:59Friday, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada remains ready to return to the table. We stand
01:06ready to pick up on that progress and build on that progress when the Americans are ready
01:14to have those discussions because it will be for the benefit of workers in the United States,
01:20workers in Canada and families in both of our countries. He also pledged to double Canada's
01:27exports outside the US, saying the country can no longer rely solely on its southern neighbour.
