00:00Donald Trump has repeatedly used the word Armada in his threats against Iran.
00:05And with the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier now stationed in the Arabian Sea and a second on its way,
00:11that threat seems more imminent than ever.
00:14An incendiary backdrop for Iranian officials meeting with U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Thursday in Geneva.
00:21Addressing Congress on Tuesday, Donald Trump set the tone.
00:25They're starting it all over. We wiped it out and they want to start all over again.
00:30And are at this moment again pursuing their sinister ambitions.
00:35We are in negotiations with them. They want to make a deal, but we haven't heard those secret words.
00:40We will never have a nuclear weapon.
00:45The Iranian foreign minister had in fact tweeted those very words just hours before.
00:51Our fundamental convictions are crystal clear.
00:54Iran will under no circumstances ever develop a nuclear weapon.
00:59Neither will we Iranians ever forgo our right to harness the dividends of peaceful nuclear technology for our people.
01:07But scepticism is widespread, even at the heart of the Trump administration,
01:12both about Iran's nuclear ambitions and the success of U.S. strikes last June in setting back the country's nuclear
01:18program.
01:19The 2015 JCPOA agreement committed Tehran to enriching uranium only within the limits of peaceful purposes in exchange for lifting
01:28sanctions.
01:29But in 2015, during his first term, Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the deal.
01:35We have terminated a terrible, terrible deal that should have never, ever been made.
01:45And we will be putting on among the strongest sanctions that we've ever put on a country.
01:53Despite other signatories' attempts to make up the difference through sanction relief,
01:57the Atomic Energy Agency lost its special powers of oversight in Iran and the deal collapsed.
02:03Talks began in 2025 for a new deal, but quickly fell apart when U.S. intelligence estimated Tehran was just
02:09three months away
02:10from having the means to make an atomic bomb.
02:13And Washington carried out a series of strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
