00:15At the plenary session of the 44th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane on Wednesday, Anwar urged all
00:2210 ASEAN member states to reject any attempts that could sow division from within. He said
00:28as global tensions continue to rise and polarisation appears to prevail over integration, cracks
00:35and division within ASEAN run the risk of being exploited.
00:38We cannot overstress the importance of dialogue and cooperation, forming the fundamentals
00:44of amity and good relations. Therefore, we encourage our dialogue partners to manage
00:49their differences in order to obtain positive outcomes. In this way, ASEAN must be unflinching
00:56and resolute in sending a clear message to the world that ASEAN is and must remain united
01:04and will continue to be the key driver of peace, security and cooperation in this region.
01:11Anwar said Timor-Leste's inclusion as a full member of ASEAN will bode well for the
01:16bloc. He said Malaysia looks forward to the recommendations on measures to facilitate
01:22Timor-Leste's early full membership into ASEAN. He said Malaysia also looks forward
01:27to the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and its strategic plan at the 46th ASEAN
01:36Summit next year. He said as the ASEAN Chair next year, Malaysia is committed to a more
01:42inclusive and sustainable future for the region. The 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and the related
01:49summits with dialogue partners China, India, the United States, Australia, Canada, South
01:56Korea and Japan officially opened on Wednesday and will run until Friday.
