00:00Ladies and gentlemen, today also marks the launch of INTAS, the Institute of International and ASEAN Studies.
00:08These steps come at an important time as Malaysia holds the responsibility of being the ASEAN Chair this year.
00:17We must carry our responsibility with vision, leadership and credibility.
00:23We live in a time of uncertainty. ASEAN, long respected as a zone of peace and cooperation, now faces serious challenges.
00:38Recent tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have displaced more than 300,000 people.
00:47While both sides have agreed to a ceasefire, the region must remain vigilant.
00:54Efforts to restore stability must be sustained.
01:00Malaysia has taken early steps.
01:03We hosted both Thai and Cambodia leadership in Kuala Lumpur.
01:09This was a conscious choice.
01:11We are committed to dialogues, to peace, and to preserving the cooperative spirit of ASEAN.
01:20Malaysia must continue to serve as a venue for engagement.
01:25Our domestic stability and international credibility place us in a position to convene.
01:33But we cannot rely on diplomacy alone.
01:36We need institutions that think, write, and act.
01:45This is where INTAS can contribute.
01:50It can strengthen Malaysia's regional role by producing credible research, policy ideas, and strategic insight.
02:00It can also work alongside other centers, such as the International Institute of Future Studies,
02:09where the two founders are here, the Center for Peace, Dialogues, and Xenophobia Studies,
02:18the Center for Islam-Confucianism Dialogues, and partners like ISIS Malaysia.
02:26INTAS should also strengthen engagement with ASEAN's strategic dialogue partners,
02:33including the United States, China, India, the European Union, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia.
02:45These relationships are important in shaping how ASEAN responds to global challenges.
02:51The seminar that begins today, titled ASEAN Futures, Navigating Regionalism, Reconciliations, and Reproachment,
03:04is part of that effort.
03:07It offers a space for serious reflection.
03:09It raises important questions about how we respond to instability, rebuild regional trust, and plan the way ahead.
03:22The discussion helps here.
03:23We strengthen ASEAN's role as a regional community anchored in shared values and steady corporations.
03:32Each of today's milestones, the book, the institute, and the seminar, contributes to a deeper purpose.
03:45They bring knowledge, responsibility, and vision together in ways that will shape minds, guide policy, and support peace in our region.
03:59ASEAN's role as a regional community anchored in shared values and
