02:00Gracias por ver el video.
11:32Just a give back to society.
11:34That's the rules.
11:35And for 30 years or so, that worked pretty well.
11:39There always was this sort of trying to balance, you know, news, making money, and the news,
11:45which never did make money until they realized, somebody realized you could make money on the news.
11:51And in doing that, they decided that they had to flash it up and make it more about entertainment.
11:56All of a sudden, news content went out.
11:59And suddenly, we're watching things that have absolutely no news value on network news, not just local news.
12:04The trust in television news, I think, has diminished considerably.
12:10And that's very sad because some of the people that we know who are still in the industry want to tell it straight and want to tell it real
12:18and want to tell what's important rather than watering it down with little entertainment tidbits.
12:23Dad was unhappy with the state of television when he passed away five, six years ago
12:32and had become very disenchanted after he left CBS News in 65 or 66 after the Senate Vietnam hearings
12:41and CBS refused to carry them in favor of a fourth rerun of an I Love Lucy episode.
12:48And that's, at that time, I mean, it was clear to him and to Ed that this medium was, I'll paraphrase,
12:56but was making too much money to do its best.
13:00It was making too much money doing its worst to do its best.
13:03It's all about speed and competition.
13:06I've got to get the story out there and beat these guys.
13:08And if you watch Murrow speaking about it in 1958, it was the same problem then,
13:12which is corporate still has the money, and the money still has sort of connections here.
13:18It's part of capitalism. It is part of what you're designed to do.
13:22The point is that we have to be better than that.
13:25Nobody is careful in the way that See It Now was.
13:29They didn't just come out and say McCarthy's a terrible man.
13:32They put his words on the air, what he was saying and what was the truth,
13:37and everything was researched to a fare thee well
13:39so that they could not be caught being careless with the facts.
13:44Today, everybody's careless with the facts.
13:48What is your hope for this project?
14:00An open discussion about responsibility and open discussion.
14:04I find it sort of fun to have people keep trying to politicize this as we do it.
14:11You know, we'll have journalists come to the set and they'll go,
14:15well, this is all about today.
14:16You know, it's about Guantanamo Bay and the right to face your accuser.
14:20And the truth is there is absolutely, that is a fact.
14:25There are parallels that are sort of amazing.
14:28But it's also about the responsibility of the journalism.
14:31Your film will be a reminder to a generation who doesn't remember
14:38or care much about the role of broadcast journalism,
14:43of the potential and the power of this medium.
14:47I think Dad would be thrilled to see what's going on here.
14:50I know he would be.
14:51I just wanted to remind people that watching it happen
14:55and being done very well is not antiquated.
14:59It's not old.
15:00It doesn't seem wrong to me.
15:21It's not important to hear it.
15:23It's sort of scary, but it's not like that it was not.
15:25It's not violent from dark people.
15:26But I love you.
15:29It's changed the word of this.
15:31I love you.
15:32I love you.
15:33It's changed the word of this medium.
15:34I love you.
15:36These values I love you.
15:37I love you.
15:38It's changed the word of this medium.
15:38And reallyhape that word God has you a little bit.
15:41I think I love you.
15:43I like it.
15:44Something nice if you want me to come again to an example.
15:46Yeah.
15:47I like it.
15:48It's saying yes it's so nice you can't.
15:49It's been rental.
15:50Thank you.
