00:00So we're here in Bewdley and we're here at a Black Country Isles pub with landlord
00:03what's your name sir? Jack Haycox. And Jack what is this lovely pub called that
00:07we're at? It's called the Real Ale Tavern on the High Street. Sorry, it's on the
00:12High Street in the town but it's actually called the High Street. Yeah, but it's that
00:15main drag isn't it? Everyone knows. And how long have you been here yourself Jack?
00:18Been here just over two years now. Tell us about your pub then, it's a very cosy pub.
00:23It is, it's a very homely pub. We specialise in real ales, we sell nine real ales and then we've
00:28got three still ciders as well. But we do have lagers and fizzy ciders as well and
00:34also Guinness as well for people like that. And which is the most popular Black Country
00:39ales pint that people have? The most popular is the BFG. Is it? Older ale yeah. Yeah yeah.
00:44Nice traditional bitter. And you've got fires, do you get them going in winter?
00:50We do indeed. Yeah yeah. Still hasn't dropped that cold at the moment. Yeah it's quite lit a few times.
00:54Yeah yeah. So this is not the kind of door you see in a normal pub. It's an old bank vault door.
01:01It speaks of the history of the building. It does actually yeah because it's only been a pub for
01:05just coming up to eight years in November this year. But this was actually an old Barclays and it was
01:11actually my first bank as well when I was a kid. Yeah so you used to come in here with your
01:14pocket money. Trying to get 20 quid for doing the dishes. Yeah yeah how about that. It's nice that
01:20they've kept it as a quirky feature. Yeah. Girl great stuff. And little rooftop terrace I believe.
01:28I've yet to check that out. We'll show that on the video. Yeah it's lovely up there. It's a
01:33right sun trap as well in the summer. Yeah and it's quite it's like lots of little
01:38snugs isn't it. That's the best way to describe the pub. Yeah definitely. You've got loads of little
01:41alcoves of where you can get into. And what's your kind of main customer base
01:46because obviously Budely you know it can be quite a busy tourist tower. We do have
01:51quite a few tourists as well but we have got a very good local community as well
01:55that supports us very well. And what about events? Do you have any events on at all?
01:59Yeah we do do live music now and then. Yeah. But we also do a quiz twice a month. One on the
02:04first Monday of the month and one on the third Monday of the month. And then we do
02:07cheese nights every Wednesday. Cheese nights? Yeah. Free cheese on a Wednesday.
02:11Free cheese. Oh I'm loving the sound of that. Yeah yeah. Cured meats that sort of thing.
02:16Wow every Wednesday. So what time is that from then? 7pm. Yeah great. That sounds good. I like
02:22the sound of that. And it's the Black Country Ales they do it well don't they with their pubs.
02:27It's proper traditional. They're still probing as well. Yeah yeah definitely. Well thank you for inviting us
02:33down to have a little look around your lovely boozer. Thank you sir. I think good to have you. Cheers buddy.
