00:00I used to live in London until the end of March, so I know very well the feeling when you are home sick, but as well you don't know actually where is your home.
00:16This is a story about a small community in New York, but everybody can relate with that, and I think this is the power of the movie. What do you think about it?
00:26Yes, it's a universal story in the sense that everyone knows what it's like to go away from home, or even if you don't know what it's like to go away from home, you know the feeling of wanting to go away from home.
00:43You know, so we all know these stories, it's very, very universal and people will see themselves in these characters and in the music and in the culture because we're not that different, we're not that apart.
00:57And I love all the references inside the movie, like the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings. Which one is your favorite?
01:05I love, yeah I love, I love when he goes Frodo and he sends up the ring. But Lynn is great. Lynn, Lynn actually there's an homage to Hamilton actually, in the hold music when Kevin calls the school about Mina.
01:22And he's holding and it's, you know, so it's, it's, it's, it's the whole music from Hamilton.
01:29I think that everyone will be able to relate because these characters, you're going to fall in love with these characters. They're very real. It doesn't matter if you have a, it's called Abuela Claudia.
01:46You might have a Nana or it's called Grandma or somebody, something else. You, you, you'll have a parent that wants the best for, for their, their children.
01:57There's a Sonny, there's a teenager in your life that, that has their challenges. And I think everyone has a dream. No matter where you come from, you have a dream, a sueñito, a little dream, a big dream that you want that dream to come true.
02:15So it doesn't matter that it's, it's, it's, it's about a Latino community. I think it's, it's, it will cross over to everybody will be able to relate because the themes and the characters are universal.
02:33We're specifically talking about Washington Heights in New York city, but the themes and the characters and really everything about the film is just so universal.
02:42You know, like one of our really important themes is the idea of home and home isn't just these four walls and a roof.
02:49You know, home is where you make it home. It could be Washington Heights.
02:52It could be in a whole other state. It could be across the globe.
02:54You know, Sonia coming from this, uh, 12, 14 months that we've been through as a society and having to assess a lot of things for us, hopefully that we've kind of feel like the stars aligned, the universe aligned for us because it's.
03:18It's people have had time to assess and think about not only medical stuff, but social things as well.
03:25And you see this particular community, this neighborhood through a lens that's very authentic, but it's, it's filled with positivity and joy.
03:37We, you know, we keep saying that word joy and that's what we as audience members that are going to be in the movie theaters and watching it need that right now too.
03:46So all of these themes that we're all talking about are faced by people that they'll be able to relate.
03:55I mean, it is a very universal story.
04:02And I think the way that you get a story that's so specific to this neighborhood to resonate is being as truthful as possible and as specific as possible.
04:13And in that specificity, you find the universality because anyone can relate to, you know, being part of a community that.
04:25I agree wholeheartedly with staying as truthful as possible and in that specificity you find
04:32the universality because if that's the beauty of it right that's what makes it poetic is
04:37that in the end you find that even though all of these little variables are are different
04:41in this this community of people that are might be miles and miles away from where you
04:46live you find the heart is the same you find that the struggle you know is the same the
04:52obstacles may be different the dreams that they dream may be different the limitations
04:56may be different but what we want and what we long for and what we aspire for is the same
