00:00Venezuelan Vice President Delce Rodriguez addressed the Gas Exporting Countries Forum
00:14taking place in Qatar, warning the U.S. seeks to appropriate the natural resources of the
00:21Bolivarian nation. In Honduras, National Electoral Council Member Marlon Ochoa reported to the
00:29Public Prosecutor's Office plans to destabilize the country ahead of the upcoming November 30th
00:36election. And in the United States, the government announced new sanctions against the major Russian
00:44oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belen
00:55de los Santos. I'm from Mattel Substudios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:10And we begin with the information we were saying it at the beginning. From Venezuela, within the
01:15framework of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum taking place in Doha, Qatar, the Vice President
01:21Delce Rodriguez denounced the U.S. military threats against Venezuela and the Caribbean region
01:28and emphasized that its objective was to appropriate the rich natural resources of the Bolivarian nation.
01:37I want to take this opportunity to denounce the war threat by the United States against Venezuela
01:43and the Caribbean countries. They want to steal our hydrocarbon, oil and gas resources, but they also
01:49intend, and I would like to take this opportunity to point this out, to disrupt the agreements that
01:54Venezuela has, the gas agreements with the Caribbean. Additionally, Rodriguez emphasized
02:01the importance of developing the energy and gas sectors to satisfy the increased demand that will
02:08result from population growth in the coming years. Economic and population growth will drive energy
02:17demand, and it is estimated that by 2040, 70% of energy demand will originate in the global south.
02:24Similarly, the world population is expected to grow by more than 1 500 million people by 2050,
02:33primarily in developing countries, where it will grow at twice the rate of developed countries.
02:39Likewise, the gas demand will grow by more than 60% by 2040, with China, India, and the rest of Asia
02:46are driving the growth in demand.
02:47China, India, and the rest of Asia, there will be the growth of demand.
02:53And we continue in Venezuela because on Wednesday, President Nicolás Maduro assured that the country
02:58has a professional air defense force ready to guarantee peace throughout the national territory. Let's hear.
03:05military technology and innovation made in Venezuela. Good news. You see some mortars
03:16repaired, improved, and expanded by Venezuelan minds, professionals, and military scientists from Venezuela.
03:30anti-drones. I won't say any more. We are showing just the tip of the iceberg.
03:44The iglas to teach the launching of iglas. And that's not all. It's one of the most powerful weapons there is.
03:52Any military force in the world. General Padrino. General Mañárez. General Gilio.
04:00Commander of the Army. Commander of the Zodii of Caracas. Figueroa Valdés.
04:06Everyone knows it. Every military force in the world knows the power of iglas.
04:12And Venezuela has no less than 5,000 iglas in key anti-air defense positions to guarantee peace, stability,
04:22and tranquility for our people. More than 5,000 of them. And the ranch on fire.
04:29Those who understood, understood.
04:31And we continue on topic because Venezuela activated the National Coastal Defense Exercises
04:43as part of its Independence 200 plan in response to the United States and military deployment in the Caribbean Sea
04:51that threatens the nation's sovereignty. A joint effort involving civilians, the military, and the police
04:58began with the defense exercises in the coastal areas of La Guayra, Enzoategui, and Miranda.
05:04The main purpose of the action was to guarantee the capacity to respond to any aggression
05:09that threatens the country's territorial peace. The Independence 200 plan ensures the protection
05:16of constitutional rights that guarantee the free movement of citizens who are committed
05:21and willing to defend their homeland.
05:28Here we are in perfect union with the people, the military, and the police in this special exercise
05:34that allows us to strengthen the defense of our coast in eastern Venezuela and, in particular,
05:40here in the state of Enzoategui.
05:41From the municipalities of Peña, Albert, Bolívar, Urbana, Enzoategui, and Guanta,
05:46in this most human national park, this exercise demonstrates our strength, our capacity,
05:50and most importantly, our absolute will and determination to protect our national territory,
05:55our independence, and our sovereignty.
05:57And also in Venezuela, the International Anti-Fascist Forum concluded after a day of debate,
06:08bringing together 52 delegations from various countries around the world.
06:13The meeting served as a platform for global unity and rejecting the escalation of U.S.
06:18military threats in the Caribbean region. During his speech, Venezuelan Foreign Minister
06:23Ivan Hill denounced Washington's recent mobilization of naval and air assets, describing it as a violation
06:31of international law. In this regard, he stated that these maneuvers of interference will not prevail
06:37against the people that have decided to be free.
06:40And now we have a short break coming up, but first, remember you can join us on TikTok at
06:58Telestore English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
07:03We'll be right back. Stay with us.
07:04Welcome back to From the South. We continue with more information.
07:26In Honduras, Councillor Marlon Ochoa reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office plans to destabilize
07:34the country in connection with the electoral process on November 30th.
07:39Councillor Ochoa delivered a USB drive with 24 audio files.
07:48He claims they approve an organized plan to discredit the electoral process, create a crisis of legitimacy,
07:55and cause post-election unrest.
07:58Ochoa asked the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate, identify, and sanction those responsible,
08:05and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
08:08In addition, he warned that the Electoral Council results transmission system, which depends on private
08:14channels and multinational companies, represents a vulnerable point that could be exploited to manipulate
08:21or interrupt the transmission of records on Election Day.
08:31Dear Attorney General of the Republic, I, Marlon Ochoa, hereby appear before you to file a complaint
08:40and inform the Public Prosecutor's Office of facts that, to the best of my knowledge and understanding,
08:49constitute conduct criminalized under the criminal and electoral laws of the Republic of Honduras,
08:58and pose a serious and imminent threat to the Republic order, democratic stability,
09:04constitutional order, and the integrity of the 2025 general election process.
09:11My complaint is based on information and audio material that I am obliged to transmit to the competent authorities
09:19so that it may be subjected to a rigorous investigation.
09:25In Peru, the Congress of the Republic granted a vote of confidence to the new Ministerial Cabinet,
09:31led by Ernesto Álvarez Miranda, after a session lasting more than three hours.
09:37The plenary session was approved with 79 votes in favor, 15 against, and five abstentions,
09:43providing the necessary support for the Council of Ministers to begin its work.
09:48Amid difficult circumstances marked by insecurity and violence that affected the daily lives of millions of citizens,
09:55in this regard, Álvarez stated that he will promote the fight against organized crime,
10:02and it will be the central focus of his cabinet.
10:14And we go now to Panama, as the workers at the Inter-Useanic Canal have denounced
10:20that the administration is taking illegal and arbitrary action regarding their wages.
10:25Captains and tugboat officers denounced the company is using a ruling to retroactively reverse salary increases
10:32from when the collective agreement was enforced.
10:36The workers are complaining about the imposition of undue sanctions,
10:40the change in working conditions without proper procedure,
10:44and the discrepancy between the administration's salary increase and the proposal for the workers.
10:49Lawyers describe these practices as illegal and arbitrary.
10:54However, they emphasize that the problem is not the ruling itself,
10:57but rather the interpretation being made by the Canal's administration.
11:08Brazil and Indonesia are strengthening cooperation ties
11:12during an official visit to the Southeast Asian nation from President Luiz Ignacio Lula de Silva.
11:17Lula arrived in Jakarta earlier on Thursday
11:21and was welcomed by his Indonesian counter, Par Prabowo Subianto,
11:26at the presidential palace.
11:28The leaders witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements
11:32on oil, gas, electricity, technology, mining, and agriculture.
11:37In this context, Subianto expressed that both countries were working
11:41to establish a free trade deal between his country and the South American bloc, Mercosur,
11:47while Lula emphasized joint cooperation efforts need to ensure the increase in trade
11:53between both nations.
11:55Brazil is one of Indonesia's main trading partners in Latin America
11:59as the Southeast Asian nation is looking to bolster ties in the region.
12:11We are both members of BRICS.
12:14We are also members of G20.
12:19So we want to improve.
12:23Today we are witnessing significant economic cooperation,
12:28which is mutually beneficial,
12:31with a potential value of up to $5 billion,
12:35which we have just signed.
12:39I believe that the people of Indonesia and Brazil deserve that we make the greatest sacrifice
12:46to ensure that trade between Indonesia and Brazil grows in line with the growth of our population.
12:54That is why we will make a great effort
12:58to work hard so that Indonesia and
13:03Brazil become two key partners in the economic
13:07geography of the world.
13:11We have a second short break coming up now,

13:44Welcome back to From the South.
13:45We continue with more information.
13:47The U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced on Wednesday new sanctions against the major Russian oil companies,
13:55Rosneft and Lukoil.
13:56The decision comes after President Donald Trump suspended a meeting in Budapest
14:01with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin
14:03on the grounds of alleged lack of progress in the solution of the conflict in Ukraine.
14:09The measures are in addition to the 19th package of sanctions already imposed on the Eurasian nation
14:16and include the freezing of assets and interests of both companies in the U.S. territory,
14:23the prohibition of transactions with U.S. nationals and entities,
14:27and their exclusion from the U.S. financial system.
14:31And in this context, on Thursday, the Chinese government expressed its strong rejection to these measures
14:43after the European Union also announced a new package of sanctions against Russian companies
14:48and its trading partners.
14:50Precisely, during a press briefing, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Jiangung
14:56denounced the actions by both the U.S. government and the European bloc,
15:01stating Washington has no basis in international law
15:05and the action is not authorized by the U.N. Security Council.
15:10Moreover, addressing European sanctions on Chinese companies that trade with Moscow,
15:14he asserted that the bloc is in no position to criticize the normal interaction and cooperation
15:21between both countries' enterprises.
15:24In this regard, the Chinese official encouraged dialogue and negotiation,
15:29warning that coercion and pressure will not solve the problem.
15:38China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law
15:43or authorization from the UN Security Council.
15:46Most countries, including those in Europe and the United States,
15:50maintain trade relations with Russia.
15:52The EU is in no position to criticize the normal interactions and cooperation
15:57between Chinese and Russian enterprises.
15:59We urge the EU to stop making an issue of China and undermining China's interests,
16:04which is detrimental to the sound and stable development of China-EU relations.
16:08China will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
16:13We go now to the Middle East.
16:33As in Jordan, a group of 12 children from the Gaza Strip
16:37have arrived to receive medical treatment.
16:40The minors landed in Amman on Thursday with 38 family members
16:46who will accompany them during their professional medical care
16:50in local, public and private hospitals.
16:53Health authorities reported
16:54that once their treatment is complete,
16:59the patients and their families will be sent back to Gaza,
17:03allowing access for another group of Gazan children in need of care.
17:06This evacuation is the third day under the Gaza Strip Corridor initiative announced in February,
17:14as the country is ready to receive up to 2,000 Palestinian children.
17:24In other news, the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq, the IHEC,
17:30and a delegation of experts from the European Union held a meeting to coordinate and discuss mechanisms
17:35to support the upcoming electoral process.
17:39The chairman of the IHEC Board of Commissioners, Omar Ahmed,
17:44received the European Union's delegation to coordinate actions aimed at to ensure transparent and fair elections.
17:52The European Union delegates praised the organizational and administrative efforts made by the electoral body
17:58during the preparation of the legislative elections scheduled for November 11.
18:03The High Electoral Commission officially approved more than 7,768 candidates
18:10who will compete for a total of 329 seats in the House of Representatives.
18:17In France, at least 18 departments are on orange alert due to the impact of Storm Benjamin,
18:40which has been battering the country since Thursday morning.
18:44Meteor France issued a second-level alert for the western, northern, central and southern departments
18:50due to adverse weather conditions that will affect nearly the entire country.
18:56In this scenario, official reports forecast that winds could reach 130 km per hour,
19:01although the level of precipitation is still unclear.
19:05Several train lines have temporarily suspended operations as a precautionary measure,
19:09and more than 100,000 homes are reportedly without electricity.
