00:25Colombian President Gustavo Petro warned on Monday about the risks of electoral fraud less than two weeks before the legislative
00:32elections.

00:45a nuclear weapon.
00:50Hello, welcome to From the South. I am Lorena Fong from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the
00:56news. Stay with us.
01:11Venezuela's acting president Elce Rodriguez received victims of political violence at the Miraflores Palace.
01:15The actions being implemented following the approval of the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence.
01:22In this contest, the executive secretary of the National Human Rights Council, Larry DeVoe, drew attention to the presence of
01:29victims and families of victims of episodes of politically motivated violence.
01:34The aim of this meeting is to address the situation of those affected under the newly established legal framework designed
01:42to promote national reconciliation.
01:44Let's recall the Amnesty Law, which was unanimously approved by the Venezuelan Parliament, constitutes a historic event for the nation
01:52and is intended to promote pluralism and peace.
02:05And that we are united. And I know, Mrs. Zoraida, how difficult it is. I have had to deal with
02:12it face to face. I have to tell you, I have to sit down with my parents' executioners. And I
02:18have done it for Venezuela.
02:24And I have had to sit down with the executioners of our heroes and heroines of January 3rd. And I
02:30have done it for Venezuela. And we are doing it for Venezuela.
02:40We are doing it for the Venezuelan people, for our youth. Every time I see Genesis, I get emotional because
02:47there is our youth, the future of our country. We are doing it for them, for our sons, for our
02:52daughters, for the future of Venezuela and for the most sacred thing there is, the sovereignty and independence we inherited
02:59from our liberators.
03:00Today marks seven years since the attempt to undermine the integrity and sovereignty of Venezuela in the Battle of the
03:07Bridges.
03:07They tried to enter from the South and the West under a false flag and a false excuse of a
03:13humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. They came to intervene in the country.
03:20In this scenario, acting president Elsie Rodriguez warned that some sectors misinterpret the amnesty law and the coexisting process, viewing
03:28it through the lens of partisan politics.
03:35I have to be grateful because I have seen extremist people genuinely welcoming the amnesty law and the process of
03:51democratic coexistence.
03:59But I also want to tell you that the doors of Venezuela, the arms of the Venezuelan people, are open
04:05to those who wish to return in this process of healing hatred.
04:16However, I must also say that I am aware of some sectors that are not correctly interpreting what is happening
04:22in the country, viewing it through the lens of partisan political defeat.
04:31On January 3rd, Venezuela lost.
04:38On January 3rd, all Venezuelan men and women lost. We all lost.
04:46There were no winners in this country, and I am seeing that some sectors are misinterpreting the amnesty law and
04:52the co-existence process.
04:58Moreover, Rodriguez assured that diplomacy is the compass of the country and warned that the people will judge those who
05:06attempt to disrupt the path of peace.
05:13And we have a map and we have said that it will be diplomacy that resolves our geopolitical differences with
05:20the imperial powers of the world.
05:26And it will be through economic and commercial cooperation that we will derive the great wealth and material potential of
05:32our country.
05:33And we will do so with the most important thing, which is the spiritual wealth of the people of Venezuela.
05:38That is our map. That is our compass. And anyone who comes to disrupt it will be judged by the
05:45Venezuelan people.
05:46Whoever comes to derail the process to impede the healing of Venezuela will find themselves facing the iron wheel of
05:54a country that wants peace for sovereignty, for independence and for freedom.
05:59Por la soberanía, por la independencia y por la libertad.
06:02Colombian President Gustavo Petro warned on Monday about the risks of the electoral flood less than two weeks before the
06:09legislative elections.
06:11The president has confirmed that citizens' personal data must be in the hands of the state and none of private
06:17entities.
06:18This warning comes after the company Thomas Gregg and Sons owned by the Felipe Fernando and Camilo Bautista brothers has
06:25once again been awarded the contract through a public tender according to the registry for the logistics of the upcoming
06:32election process.
06:33In this context, the historical path sectors have also insisted that the public control mechanism over electoral processes must be
06:43strengthened.
06:51If there are no challenges at the polling station, the judges do not count the votes, they do not open
06:58the ballot boxes afterwards, and only the election witness can challenge the results.
07:08Then, if you combine the ADS call center software for preliminary counting with the judges, who cannot open the ballot
07:15boxes, and with the electoral witnesses, it turns out that the electoral council, especially the registry, limits the number of
07:23electoral witnesses, which should be 123,000 per party.
07:34If that does not happen, the parties cannot challenge the results, and then the fraud in the preliminary count carried
07:40out by ADS remains valid, because the ballot boxes are not reopened unless they have been challenged.
07:46And that is how fraud is carried out in Colombia.
07:54In other topics, Brazil's Supreme Court begins Tuesday the trial of politicians accused of ordering the 2018 murder of Rio
08:03de Janeiro councilwoman Mariel Franco.
08:05The top federal court will now try former federal lawmaker Chiquinho Brazao and his brother former state lawmaker Domingos who
08:14are accused of ordering the assassination.
08:17The two former military police officers who carried out the murders were given hefty jail terms in 2024.
08:24Mariel Franco was an activist who grew up in a favela and became an outspoken critic of Rio's powerful militia
08:31groups.
08:32She was gunned down in the city center alongside her driver Anderson Gomez.
08:38According to the prosecution, the accuser's motive was Franco's opposition to plans that would have legalized land illegally seized by
08:47militias that control large parts of the city.
08:58In Mexico, the operation against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel that led to the death of its leader Nemesio Seguera
09:06Cervantes, alias El Mencho, triggered a digital disinformation campaign orchestrated by the far right.
09:13Mexican and international analysts agreed that beyond a few journalistic errors, there was evidence of a coordinated pattern of disinformation
09:22driven by very specific accounts serving the Mexican right wing.
09:26Fake images manipulated with artificial intelligence reported the attack on the city's airport and the transfer of President Claudia Sheinbaum
09:34to helicopter to a warped ship which never happened.
09:37They even used images of protests by the so-called Generation C that took place in 2025 in Nepal.
09:46Media analysts denounced that the systematic strategy of the right wing used votes, media figures and specific accounts that created
09:55a digital apparatus capable of amplifying fear and turning disinformation into a political weapon.
10:07And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur

10:37Welcome back to From the South, we continue with more information.
10:40The new 10% tariffs approved by U.S. President Donald Trump have come into effect Tuesday after the nation's
10:48Supreme Court blocked many of them on Friday.
10:52Washington's decision has triggered uncertainty with a number of U.S. trading partners, including the United Kingdom and the European
10:59Union.
11:00President Trump signed the executive order approving the tariffs just an hour after the Supreme Court ruling and threatened later
11:09to increase them to 15% on Monday.
11:12The European Union paused the ratification of the deal it held struggle with the United States last July for the
11:19second time in a month after it froze and unfroze the deal in the wake of Trump's Greenland threats.
11:26The deal was for 15% blankets tariff on European Union imports that were inclusive of previous levies.
11:43And in Cuba, the students' community of the Island of Youth Special Municipality has launched a series of initiatives to
11:51ensure the effective development of the teaching educational process in primary education throughout the school year.
11:58Despite the difficult conditions imposed by the U.S. blockade, both families and schools are working closely together to ensure
12:06the highest quality of education.
12:08This initiative seeks to address caring challenges and maintain the commitment to quality education for children in the Caribbean nation.
12:25And in the United States, President Donald Trump is expected to try to justify 30 months of controversial policies during
12:34the upcoming State of the Union speech.
12:36Our correspondent Henry Camelo has more.
12:40Hello, greetings to you and the Telesur audience.
12:43In the midst of the second government shutdown of Donald Trump's second presidential term,
12:48tonight he will address Congress and millions of Americans, among whom, according to the most recent polls, he continues to
12:55lose support, and even more so, trust.
12:58The latest surveys show President Trump's approval ratings below 34%, and among Latinos they have fallen from 44% to
13:07just 25%, the lowest approval rating any president has ever had in U.S. history.
13:13According to the allies and critics, Trump will obtain to justify 30 months of accelerated immigration regulation, a record number
13:23of executive actions and massive staff cuts in federal agencies, as well as a fierce crackdown on immigrants, a stagnant,
13:32low-growth economy, the Supreme Court's legal setbacks that declare the position of global tariffs without congressional approvals illegal, and,
13:41of course, what analysts consider
13:43the growing achievement the growing achievement of Donald Trump's presidency, the global scandal surrendering the alleged involvement and close relationship
13:52with the deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
13:56Trump continues to deny his involvement despite several emails revealed in the Epstein files directly implicating him in these criminal
14:06activities.
14:06Many Americans expect Trump to continue busting about his administration's supposed triumphs in economy, immigration, and foreign policy matters, which
14:17have provoked the rejection of millions of citizens who, since the beginning of his presidency, have not stopped peacefully protesting
14:26in the streets of the country's major cities.
14:29The speech will be televised amongst television stations across the country.
14:36We will, of course, be closely following President Trump's address to bring you the best analysis, reactions, and all the
14:44details of this State of the Union speech.

15:28Welcome back to From the South.
15:30The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service denounced that France and the United Kingdom are evaluating the possibility of supplying Ukraine with
15:37a nuclear weapon or at least a dairy bomb.
15:40According to the Russian entity, the governments of both nations are analyzing mechanisms for transferring technology and components related to
15:49this type of weaponry, while Germany has ruled out participating in the initiative.
15:54The Russian authorities also pointed out that such transfers will violate the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and put the international
16:02arms control system at risk.
16:05For its part, Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated that Moscow will not allow that Ukraine obtain nuclear weapons.
16:18On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zaharova issued a statement on the fourth anniversary of the start of this
16:27special military operation on Ukraine, which it is aimed at eliminating threats emanating from the territories controlled by the Kyiv
16:35regime and at ensuring the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.
16:41This fourth step was preceded by eight long years during which our country sought to facilitate a political and diplomatic
16:49resolution of the conflict in Donbass.
16:52The exposed women also recalled that in the United States.
16:56The exposed women also recalled that in the United States power in Kyiv 12 years ago, national radical forces with
17:00tacit approval of their Western patrons have imposed their own border on the multinational people of Ukraine by force based
17:10on an ideology of aggressive nationalism and the construction of an ethnocratic state.
17:16The statement concludes by reiterating Russia's perspective on peace and security, Russia's proposals to provide legally binding security, guarantees were
17:27ignored, a lasting just and sustainable peace is possible only in the basis of eliminating the root causes of the
17:35conflict.
17:36It is precisely to this task that the current efforts of our diplomacy are directed.
17:49In this context, on Tuesday, at a meeting of the Federal Security Service Board on the fourth anniversary of the
17:56Ukraine operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced that the Kyiv regime is relying on individual terrorist terror.
18:04President Putin stated that the increase in the number of terrorist attacks on national territory comes after the Ukrainian regime
18:12failed to inflict strategic damage on Russia on the battlefield.
18:16Let's recall that after Tuesday midnight, a man detonated an explosive device beside a police patrol car at Savdyolovsky Royal
18:25Station, killing one officer and wounding two others.
18:30In this regard, President Putin accused the Ukraine regime of wanting to disrupt the peace process or abandon attempts to
18:38reach a diplomatic agreement and undermine everything that has been achieved throughout negotiations.
18:53President Putin
18:54They inflict strategic defeat on Russia on the battlefield. Therefore, the enemies rely on individual mass terror. This includes shelling
19:02cities, tabotaging infrastructure, and assassinated representatives of states and military authorities. Here is another example from yesterday
19:10at Sabiolovsky Station.
19:14This, of course, requires additional work on your part,
19:17but it is already clear that judging by all appearances,
19:23this is most likely a typical case of recruitment via the Internet.
19:27They gave the man a positive voice and then remotely detonated,
19:32killing him along with the intended target.
19:34In this case, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
19:40The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Monday
19:44the arrest of two men accused of an assassination attempt
19:48against President Aleksandr Vucic, his family,
19:51and other members of the government.
19:53According to the government body,
19:56between December 25 and February 2026,
19:59the suspects conspired to violently change the constitutional order
20:04of the country and overthrow the highest state bodies
20:07by organizing the acquisition of weapons
20:10and attacking the lives of the President and his family,
20:13as well as attacking employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
20:17According to the Ministry's statements,
20:20the suspects will remain in custody for up to 48 hours
20:24and will be charged with criminal offenses
20:26before the Calhevo Superior Prosecutor's Office.
20:36United Kingdom authorities released the former United States Ambassador Peter Mandelson
20:42on bail after he was arrested on Monday in London
20:46for his involvement in the pedophilia scandal known as the Epstein case.
20:51The 72-year-old former diplomat is under investigation
20:55for alleged misconduct in public office due to his links to Jesse's sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
21:02The police confirmed that he was interrogated
21:05and that the process continues under strict confidentiality
21:09so as not to affect the investigation.
21:12This scandal has led to a political crisis
21:15that has forced Prime Minister Keir Starmer
21:18to publicly apologize for having trust Mandelson,
21:21the former ambassador who was also a minister in Tony Blair's government
21:25was removed from his diplomatic post last September
21:29after emails linking him to Epstein were revealed.
21:33However, in the recent statements,
21:35he described these accusations as false.
22:02In other topics, around 20 nations and international organizations on Monday
22:07rejected the expansion of Israeli control over Palestinian territories
22:11in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
22:14In a joint statement, the signatories rejected the Israeli government's recent classification
22:19of Palestinian land as state property,
22:22describing these measures as a direct violation of international law.
22:26The group, which includes nations such as Spain, France, Egypt and Saudi Arabia,
22:32warned that these actions seeks an annexation of the territories
22:36that destroys any effort at peace.
22:39The foreign ministers demanded that Israel stop the violence of the settlers
22:44against the civilian population
22:46and return the task of funds that belong to the Palestinian Authority.
22:57Iran and Burkina Faso strengthen their relations
23:00to improve economic, scientific and defense cooperation.
23:03Iranian President Masoud Pesizkia met with Burkina Faso Defense Minister
23:07Celestine Simpore in Tehran on Monday
23:11to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
23:13In this context, Celestine Simpore explained that the hegemonic power
23:17seeks to keep countries dependent
23:19and prevent them from achieving true sovereignty.
23:22He also emphasized that Iran constitutes a support
23:25for territorial integrity of nations.
23:28In this sense, Iran reaffirmed its willingness to share its capabilities
23:32in various fields which will allow for the consolidation
23:35of cooperation between the two countries.
