00:00Just a thought on the Michael Jordan premiere with NBC last night.
00:03You know, Michael Jordan still to this day carries more weight than any basketball player alive on the planet, playing or retired.
00:10Which is why when he came on at halftime last night with Mike Tirico, I sat there mesmerized because it's Michael Jordan.
00:17And one of the great things about Jordan, unlike some other people who have great careers and then go into the media,
00:22who then become oversaturated and you can't turn on the television to see a commercial or hear anything without seeing people.
00:29And it becomes almost obnoxious and overkill.
00:31Tom Brady right now.
00:32Tom Brady right now.
00:33He's on a lot of commercials in addition to the games.
00:35Like Michael Jordan's never been that guy.
00:37Right.
00:38You know, and he plays a lot of golf and, you know, you'll see maybe at a random restaurant.
00:41But he's not oversaturated or saturated at all when it comes to the media.
00:45He's frankly a very private person and doesn't do any media at all,
00:49which is why NBC announcing that he was now going to be a part of their new basketball package was so awesome for guys of our generation.
00:56Who, even though I'm a diehard Nick fan and he killed me year after year, he's my favorite player of all time.
01:01He's Michael Jordan, right?
01:03So I watched it like a five-year-old.
01:06Like, oh my God, it's like Santa Claus is on the screen and I can't get enough of it.
01:11That being said, and I felt the same way about the Jordan documentary came out during COVID,
01:17is that his eyes look weird or barely open.
01:20And look, I've had those moments too, so I'm not passing judgment.
01:24But what I thought was going to be Michael Jordan commenting on a specific game that we're watching or a player that we're watching,
01:32it's not that at all.
01:34It's really more of a thesis of his, as interviewed by Mike Tirico, on just basketball overall, the sport itself.
01:41And I hope we're going to get into, you know, more in-depth topics and really get some opinions out of Michael on specific players.
01:49Although if it's based on what we saw last night, we're not going to get that.
01:53We're not going to have Michael critiquing, you know, a last second play call or the performance of a specific individual.
02:00We're going to get kind of generic overviews on his feelings about the sport that he loves.
02:05And here's the reality of it.
02:07And I don't know if there's another athlete like it out there.
02:09You brought up Brady, who is a bit oversaturated now, but he has the same kind of gravitas in the NFL.
02:16Michael Jordan's one of those rare people, and I take full ownership of this, where I don't even care.
02:22I just want to hear it.
02:24He opens his mouth, and I want to hear it.
02:27It's like being in church and hearing, you know, a reverend, a preacher, a priest, you know, give you the Sunday sermon, and you're all about it.
02:35And no matter what direction he's going, you're locked in.
02:39And that's how I felt about last night.
02:41And then afterwards, and the game ends, a great game double overtime, and I know I'm only getting a couple hours of sleep.
02:47I was thinking about it, and I was kind of disappointed in it.
02:51I watched it.
02:52I was like, yes, Michael.
02:53Yes, Michael.
02:54Yes, Michael.
02:55Like, I take full ownership of it.
02:57Yes, Michael.
02:58Yes, Michael.
02:58Well, but looking back on it now, it was disappointing, because I really wanted Michael Jordan's insight.
03:04Like, I would have loved to have heard what he had to say about KD asking for the timeout.
03:08Right.
03:09Or not making the free throw.
03:10Or the emergence of Sangoon last night, who's going to be a force, it looks like.
03:14I know it's only one game, but I had a great game last night.
03:16Or you're talking about active players and legacy and SGA, and how would you have defended them?
03:22And all the stuff that, like, you want, right?
03:25Right.
03:25But it seems like Mike Tirico did a long-form interview, an hour and a half or something like that.
03:31I think that's what it was.
03:32And then every week, NBC's just going to cut it up and give us little snippets of it over the course of several months.
03:38I like it, I want it, I'm going to digest it, and I'm going to watch it, but it's not what I was hoping for.
03:46We're not getting the insight from Michael Jordan on specific games or moments or players, and maybe that'll come,
03:52but it's just so awesome to have him back in our lives.
03:57And I'm not sure if I've ever felt that way about any athlete, and I rooted against Michael for his entire career as a Knick fan,
04:05but, of course, I respected him, and he's the greatest player my two eyes have ever seen.
04:10But I want more, man.
04:12Like, giving me three minutes of a 90-minute interview and then cutting it up so I only get three minutes on random generic topics week after week?
04:20I need me some more Michael Jordan!
