It looks just like any normal Valleys home, but when you take a look inside, it’s anything but. The Morbitorium started out as a personal collection by owner and curator Dave Roberts, but has since turned into one of the weirdest museums anywhere in Wales.

00:00it's good because i don't have to decorate it's halloween all year around um it's halloween for
00:10me it's always been you know horror films and you know autumn it's that kind of things getting a bit
00:17colder and damper you're bundling up a bit more it's quite a kind of a cozy um season uh obviously
00:25there's the scary aspect to it as well which you know you've got to play into um and with a place
00:31like this you know how can you not the moratorium is far more than just a museum and this time of
00:39the year it's definitely the busiest for dave he hosts events with anything from gothic literature
00:44to after dark museum tours so as the nights get darker the moratorium really comes into itself
00:50well we've got quite a few events now going into the new year uh halloween and christmas are the
00:56the two biggies so this halloween is the first time in two years that i've been open on halloween night
01:03and what i'm doing this year every month i do an after dark evening where i open up to small groups
01:10maximum of six people so you get lots of space lots of room to move around and have a look
01:14um and you get basically get free reign of the museum in the evening you know i'm here to ask
01:19any questions and i've also bring down there's some things which i don't have out on public display
01:25during normal your regular opening hours um so i get tables with the more interesting stuff out as
01:32well and that's what i'll be doing on halloween night everything in the museum has some kind of spooky
01:37or quirky vibe and that's really the whole focus of the collection if it's weird and dave likes it
01:43then you can find a place for it somewhere things here kind of dolls you like the pack to do me
01:50what's the kind of collection overall anything that interests me really and i'm interested by a lot of
01:55things i tend to get distracted a lot they all kind of slot together quite well as a whole um but
02:03yeah there's all sorts of stuff there's wet specimens where you preserve animals and sort of
02:08different sort of things in in chemicals in alcohol and there's taxidermy which is the dry version of
02:16that lots of stuffed animals around dave's collection has been ongoing since he was a teenager it started
02:23out as a hobby which he held for decades but only in the last 10 years or so has it become what we can
02:28see here today and some things he still has from the very beginning there are some books i've got
02:35upstairs um which are all kind of related to it sort of magic and occult kind of stuff um yeah it's
02:42mainly some old books i've got um most of this you know most of this is certainly in the last 10 years
02:52since i've had the house um and i was now you know never going to use downstairs for anything
02:58would have just turned into storage
