00:00Halloween is now only a few days away, so we're speaking to people in Newport about
00:06their plans for the big day. Some people embrace trick-or-treaters and have bags of sweets
00:10ready to hand out to kids in their costumes, but others pull the curtains tight and make
00:15themselves invisible for the evening. It might be a generational thing, or it might just
00:19be your way of celebrating the day, but people all seem to celebrate Halloween in different
00:24ways.
00:25We do trick-or-treat, when they come and knock on the door we'll do it, but we don't
00:28go out anymore. Obviously, I'm 21 now, my youngest is 19, so we don't really do that much anymore,
00:34but if they do come and knock, then we will hand out some sweets on them.
00:38Me and my mum, they like to be by the door, and when they knock on the door, I speak in
00:45and I speak, and some other stuff.
00:52I love Halloween, because there's this culture, but my parents are a bit defensive.
00:58I love it. I mean, our door is open to anyone to trick-or-treaters, but we live in an off-road
01:08of an off-road, so we don't get anyone around, but we buy a tub of sweets anyway. I love Halloween,
01:15I love everything about it, I think it's quite cool. And I love seeing kids dressed up, and
01:21it's all quite fun and whimsical, and I like it a lot.
01:25Halloween, though for most people, especially the grown-ups, is more than just trick-or-treating,
01:30with people huddling around to watch scary films, going to pumpkin patches, and embracing
01:34all that spooky season has to offer.
01:36Oh, not really. When I was younger, yes, but now it's just every Halloween, I'll sit
01:43down and watch horror movies, and eat snacks and stuff, that's about it.
01:48Sorry, so when some people knock on doors and don't answer, it's like, come on, it's been
01:51around for years, like, come on. It's got to cost, what, three quid to get a bag of sweets
01:55in the shop? Not a lot, let's be honest. But it's not something you should be ignoring,
02:01to be honest, it's been around for long enough to know what I mean.
02:07It certainly isn't for everyone, though, but even people who don't celebrate can see
02:10that it's mainly just an innocent celebration that can bring people and families together.
02:15It kind of reminds me of the film that appeared, you know, it's like, once a year, we put on
02:19our masks and we just go wild, and like, because I'm a Christian, I am, I believe in God and
02:23stuff, and it's a bit devilish to me, do you know what I mean? But like, you know, people
02:27are going to do what they're going to do, you know? It's just the way the society is,
02:30and the way the world goes, and it's been going, you know? Yeah, I don't have anything
02:35against it, but obviously, because of my religion, I don't celebrate it myself personally, but
02:39I don't, I don't have anything bad against it, I suppose.
02:42Believe it or not, no, not really. I just like the, I just like, I'm like a horror
02:46addict, do you know what I mean? So I like horror films. Obviously, Halloween's the best
02:49time for horror and stuff like that. But I don't really celebrate much, I just, I just
02:55like watch films and give out sweets on the day, do you know what I mean?
