Prince William, who previously lived in North Wales, has visited young people speaking about the importance of marine conservation. He also visited a local charity which is helping give young people a safe space to learn, grow and have fun.
Transcript
00:00Prince William drew plenty of crowds in Colwyn Bay as he met young conservatives working
00:06to protect the local coastline. He stopped for selfies, chatted to well-wishers and was
00:10even hugged by one woman as he arrived on the promenade in bright winter sunshine.
00:17The Prince was there to thank volunteers from the Marine Conservation Society's Youth Ocean
00:21Network. The group has been raising awareness of Colwyn Bay's wildlife and the vital role
00:26the area plays for seabirds and marine species. William joined them for a short walk along
00:31the beach before hearing about MMCS's Hiraithan Amor project. Over the past two years, young
00:37people across Prestatin, Rill and Kinmel Bay have helped communities learn about the benefits
00:42of the sea and how local marine habitats can be better protected. The charity says work
00:48is now underway to restore species like oysters, natural clean-up crews that help improve water
00:54quality and support the wider ecosystem. From the coastline, William headed to Mochtre
01:00to visit Youth Sheds, a project offering safe spaces and activities for local teenagers.
01:06He joined some of them for a quick game of pool and spoke about the importance of giving young
01:09people positive opportunities close to home. He finished the day at a comedy workshop run
01:16by Gwenaid's Make Do. Young performers were challenged to squeeze entire pantomimes into less
01:21than a minute, with William laughing along as they delivered chaotic, fast-paced versions
01:25of Cinderella and Aladdin. The Prince, who lived in North Wales during his RAF days, said the
01:32visit was about celebrating the energy and commitment of young people, whether they're restoring coastlines,
01:38building confidence, or bringing a bit of humour to their communities. James Beach Watkins,
01:42reporting for Local TV.
