00:00I'm sure there's going to be programmes on every single site that's open during the summer
00:07holidays and I'm sure they'll be very pleased to get people in through the doors. That's our
00:12mission after all is to be free and accessible to everyone in Wales as part of our cultural heritage.
00:21This summer why not make some amazing memories at Wales' National Museums. From Roman gladiators
00:26and mammoth fossils to art workshops and woolly visitors there's something for everyone.
00:32Let's take a journey across Wales to see what's happening at Amgred for Cymru National Museums
00:36Wales all across the country. We begin here in Cilean at the Roman legion museum where kids can
00:41learn to be real-life centurions. So we've got our Roman soldier week going on this week that's run
00:49all week it's been really really successful for us I think. We've got some gladiators coming up
00:54very very shortly. Of course our 175th anniversary on the 2nd of August so if you can come down yeah
01:01that'd be great we'd love to see everybody. And we've also got Hands on the Past which is a
01:07handling box that's going to be here as well in the museum over the course of the summer and we've
01:12also got the Roman army boot camp which is an old favourite here in the museum that's going to be
01:17running as well. And you get a real feel for it can be hard to picture sometimes when you're going around
01:23heritage sites or historical sites it can be hard to picture how things were. But we do try to we
01:29are lucky with the site but we do try to make it you know a bit of an experience as well so even when
01:35we're not doing all this we've got a reconstruction of a barracks room and then there's some armor to
01:40try on so you can feel like a Roman soldier near enough anytime. Next we head over to Cardiff for the
01:48National Museum where science, art and natural history all come together. Throughout the summer
01:53families can meet a life-sized mammoth and discover the creatures of the ice age and select dates
01:58through August. Biding archaeologists can go behind the scenes to explore prehistoric tools and fossils
02:03or dive into the deep with the sunken treasures seashell exhibition. There are art activities too,
02:08join a friendly family paint along or the popular after dark evening sessions.
02:13And then just outside Cardiff at St Fagin's Natural Museum of History, one of Wales's top-tier
02:21attractions. All summer long enjoy classic fairground rides, five flying fun at the Coydlan High Ropes
02:26course and the chance to meet some historical characters. One week you'll meet a fierce Celtic
02:31warrior, the next a Tudor housekeeper or a Victorian schoolmistress.
02:37Up in Blenavon, Big Pit National Coal Museum is digging into the social lives of miners with a
02:42summer of themed weekends. Explore what miners got up to after their shifts from boxing and jazz bands
02:47to pigeon racing and wrestling. Families can play games like pin the tail on the colliery horse,
02:52meet butty bear on multiple weekends and get a taste of life above and below the coal seams.
