00:00.
00:21Brianna, she's a 16-year-old teenager.
00:24She's trans.
00:25She's sharing her life, her journey
00:28on social media and on TikTok.
00:30She just had that energy that was contagious.
00:35And when she would post, it would always be,
00:37I'm going to be a star.
00:38Her videos are everywhere.
00:40She had a 60,000 following.
00:47When I watched her TikTok videos
00:49and seen how she blossomed into this beautiful girl,
00:52I was happy.
00:54Happy that she was living the life she wanted to live.
00:57Brianna's TikToks were absolutely crucial
01:00in reconnecting Brianna with her father.
01:04I think it just became so clear
01:08how tragic it was that such a full life was then cut short.
01:12A murder investigation's underway.
01:14Brianna Jai was found with stab wounds
01:16at Colchard Linear Park.
01:18You were under arrest on suspicion of murder.
01:21Are you Eddie?
01:22Yeah.
01:23Eddie, you lad, on suspicion of murder.
01:25This is really, really shocking.
01:27Shocking because it's children murdering an avatar.
01:30A 15-year-old boyfriend and a 15-year-old girl
01:33have been charged and remanded in custody.
01:35It makes people sick that somebody can do this to a 16-year-old girl.
01:39Brianna was stabbed 28 times.
01:41That is brutal.
01:42Jenkinson had written the names of five people she wanted dead
01:46and Brianna's name was on that list.
01:49She had a life that played out on TikTok
01:51and then unfortunately also a death that played out on TikTok.
01:53PLEASE EMERGENCY
02:00PLEASE EMERGENCY
02:16Police and ambulance.
02:17I'm on Colchard Linear Park and someone's been attacked.
02:20and someone's been attacked.
02:21She's bleeding heavily.
02:22She's got blood on her legs.
02:23She's got blood on her back.
02:25She's very hot.
02:27Just before 3 o'clock on the 11th of February,
02:31two local people entered the park to walk their dog.
02:37They actually saw a male bending over ahead of them in the park.
02:43They actually thought originally that he was putting a lead on a dog.
02:47As they got closer, the male and the female with him
02:53were then seen running away.
03:00They could see something on the ground in front of them.
03:05They saw that there was a body covered in blood.
03:16Hello!
03:17The officer arrives and begins to do CPR.
03:25Paramedics arrive shortly after.
03:29But, unfortunately, despite everything they tried,
03:33she was pronounced dead at 4 o'clock that day.
03:36I'm Jane Ruffley, and I'm a forensic scientist.
03:48My role within the case was to examine the crime scene.
03:52It was evident she had been stabbed multiple times.
03:56It was at least 28 times.
03:58They were forceful injuries, indicative of a ferocious attack and a sustained attack.
04:05It certainly indicated that the intention of whoever had inflicted these injuries was to kill.
04:12The area where the body was located, to the right, was a wooden bench, where there was belongings on the bench and also on the floor.
04:25She was identified as Brianna Jai.
04:29So tiny.
04:46Peaceful.
04:47My name's Peter Spooner, and I'm Brianna Jai's father.
04:51When she was born, I was, you know, had the feeling of just joy and looking forward to the future.
05:00Me and Brianna's mum split when she was a young age, before Brianna's transition.
05:06Growing up, when I had her for the weekend, we went to Blackpool, places like that, into the arcades, onto the beach.
05:17I know it weren't much, but we enjoyed, you know, I enjoyed that time.
05:22We enjoyed that time together.
05:24I lost contact with her for several years, something I really regret.
05:30I remember I'd received a Facebook message saying she wanted to have contact with me.
05:40After all that time, it was, you know, I was shaking, I was nervous.
05:45I was happy.
05:47I'm Lorraine Susson. I'm Peter Spooner's fiancé.
05:50I said, this is amazing, you're going to get your bond back.
05:54We started chatting.
05:56And I just thought that this would be just starting, having a relationship again.
06:02Two police officers knocked on the door.
06:12They explained that they were the officers on the scene, explained what had happened.
06:18It just didn't sink in.
06:23I just went in a complete state of shock.
06:26Peter was very quiet, and he was just, like, grey in the face.
06:32And I just sat there, and I just kept looking at the messages, thinking she'd come online.
06:40I don't think anybody knew what to say.
06:46I had the happiest day of my life when she was born.
06:50I had the happiest day when she got back in touch.
07:05And then the worst day ever on that day.
07:10And still to this day, I'll never forget it.
07:13I'm sorry, I can't speak in a moment.
07:14At the entrance to the park where she died, the flowers left in memory of Brianna Jai.
07:24A life that, like so many, played out on social media, in TikTok videos like this.
07:29These are, like, the only heels I have, and they're too big for me.
07:35When Brianna's name was actually identified, it went viral.
07:38I'm 17 years old, and I'm scared to leave my house because of things like this.
07:46I haven't known what to say, and every time I start, I get upset.
07:51How could you take a child's life? She was only 16.
07:55And it honestly has made me feel heartbroken.
07:59There was a community there who joined in their grief for her.
08:02LGBT plus people have always found each other on online spaces because you're not always surrounded by people like you.
08:10Hi, my name's Faith. I'm a sister-in-law trans girl.
08:15I was 15 at the time when it happened.
08:19I didn't believe it, and I remember just going silent.
08:23I just broke down. It was a shock.
08:26It's those questions that go through your mind, whether you like it or not.
08:30You want to know what happened.
08:32The attackers have run towards Kutcher's linear car park.
08:38I can describe them clearly to you because I was really suspicious of them.
08:43The 999 call made by the dog walkers was very important because it was made so close to the actual attack.
08:52There was a girl and a boy, and I'd say they were late teens, one of the hood up with their hair protruding, and they ran past me.
08:59You can make an early hypothesis that the two people at that location who ran away are suspects.
09:07From the description given, police start tracking through CCTV to the street from public transport.
09:19CCTV was taken at the bus stop in Colcheth.
09:22There are two people, a boy and a girl.
09:29Then you see Brianna come into vision.
09:33She just looked so distinctive with her long red hair and this great big fluffy hoodie that she was wearing.
09:43In British law, children are automatically granted what's called the right of anonymity.
09:48Their identities are protected.
09:51At this point, the suspects were known as Girl X and Boy Y.
09:59They match the witness descriptions from the scene.
10:02And that is the first footage that we have of the three of them all together.
10:07When Brianna told me she was trans, I took that.
10:22I struggled.
10:24My head was just all over the place and I didn't really understand it.
10:28I said, I don't mind if you're gay.
10:30And obviously she didn't like me saying that because she was not gay.
10:34I really wish I'd just dealt with it a lot better.
10:39And I wish we didn't fall out over it.
10:42And that's the guilt I have.
10:44Peter did apologise to Brianna.
10:47I can't see a single thing, but it's made it even worse.
10:53Seeing her on TikTok, seeing how she blossomed.
11:01It made me proud of her.
11:04It was actually through him enjoying those TikTok videos that the pair started to reconnect
11:11and started to build a relationship again.
11:14I think she was very brave coming out as trans, you know,
11:17and I hope she helped a lot of other children who were trans themselves,
11:23who were struggling to come out.
11:24Like, they're very, very big.
11:26Like, I don't know how to show how tall they are.
11:29I met Brianna online on TikTok when I was 13.
11:33She came on my 4U page.
11:34It was like a homepage for videos that, like, would be interesting to you.
11:38I followed her, and she followed me back.
11:42And from there on, she became my mentor.
11:44I've always kind of struggled with my identity a bit more.
11:49And she helped me come out of the box a bit more.
11:53I remember the first video I saw was a natural school makeup video,
11:57which at the time wasn't very natural.
11:59But she looked good.
12:01She was kind of getting past the point of school.
12:06She was getting ready to do her exams,
12:08but she knew that afterwards she wanted to do hair and beauty,
12:11which she really enjoyed.
12:13I think she would have been amazing at it.
12:18I am Christina.
12:19I'm Brianna's auntie.
12:22I'm Gillian, and I'm Brianna's grandmother.
12:26I looked at them videos of her on TikTok,
12:29and I used to think, God, she's beautiful.
12:31I can't believe how full of life and so confident.
12:36You know, that's what she looked like to me on them.
12:39Very stunning.
12:40My daughter, Bethany, shared a real passion for makeup.
12:44And as you can see through videos of Brianna,
12:47she was very talented.
12:49Peter was building that contact again.
12:52But she was took away from us, you know, and that's what's sad.
12:55In the last few hours, police have issued an appeal
13:00to speak to a couple seen in the park.
13:03Yeah, I'm appealing to a male and female.
13:06News of that spread very, very quickly.
13:09A mum got in touch with the police,
13:12and she said that her daughter had been heading out that day
13:15to meet up with Brianna.
13:18And she said,
13:19I think my daughter might have been the last person
13:22to see Brianna alive.
13:25Hi, people.
13:25Her daughter was Scarlett Jenkinson.
13:31On the surface, Scarlett Jenkinson
13:34seemed to come from a normal background,
13:37a nice family.
13:38They lived in a nice neighbourhood.
13:39Both of her parents had respectable jobs.
13:42Her father was a plasterer, and her mother was a teacher.
13:46She was pictured riding a pony.
13:47She just seemed really normal.
13:50Scarlett's mum would be thinking,
13:51something's happened,
13:53Scarlett might have something important to tell the police,
13:55or is at risk herself.
13:57So phoning the police is a very natural thing
13:59to do in those circumstances.
14:01The police actually asked,
14:03could you hand the phone over to Scarlett?
14:07She said, yeah, we did meet.
14:09But she told the police,
14:11Brianna went off to meet some bloke from Manchester,
14:15and I never saw her again.
14:16That phone call would have helped the police
14:19because it put Jenkinson potentially at the scene of the crime.
14:24So a very important person in the investigation.
14:30Things are happening very quickly.
14:32There's a description from the scene
14:33that there are two people.
14:34So any association there with Scarlett becomes a very important one.
14:40Police learnt that Scarlett has a friend who lived in the area,
14:44and he's a 15-year-old boy called Eddie Ratcliffe.
14:47They first meet as 11-year-olds in Year 7 in Cultures High School,
14:51where they actually make friends with each other.
14:53And that's some years back.
14:55Friendships formed very early on.
14:56We also know that Eddie Ratcliffe had quite a privileged upbringing.
15:03His mum was a graphic designer.
15:04His dad had businesses and had a kickboxing gym.
15:08Growing up, Ratcliffe, you know, was really into the sport
15:11and competed at a UK level for kickboxing.
15:15He went on holidays abroad with his family.
15:18He was quite an achiever.
15:21But chatting to his peers and his classmates,
15:24he had very few friends.
15:26He was socially awkward.
15:27He really latched on to that relationship that he had with Jenkinson.
15:31You've got two people now who are very important to the investigation.
15:38You would find it difficult, maybe,
15:40to comprehend that young people could do so much harm to another young person.
15:44But you have to always keep an open mind and follow the evidence.
15:47You look at the culmination of different things.
15:52Scarlett and Eddie match the witness descriptions from the scene.
15:56Also, Scarlett had told her own mother that she'd seen Brianna that afternoon.
16:02And then you've got the CCTV evidence.
16:05At that point, there's enough for officers to apply for an arrest warrant.
16:26Scarlett, this is what I've got to say.
16:29Yeah?
16:29You are under arrest on suspicion of murder.
16:37You Eddie?
16:38Yeah.
16:39Eddie, you're under suspicion of murder.
16:41The arrests were carried out as part of a simultaneous operation.
16:45How come I'm a suspect?
16:46How come you're a suspect?
16:47Because I'm the last person I've seen, or is it?
16:49I don't know.
16:49All the information I've received is you are a suspect.
16:53If you have two suspects, you want them away from each other so that the police can deal with them as individuals and without them knowing what each other are saying.
17:02Scarlett is taken to Chester, to the Blake and Sweet.
17:07I can't explain it.
17:08I can't explain it.
17:09Listen, right, listen.
17:10Do all I need to, all right?
17:12Eddie is taken to Runcorn.
17:14Two teenagers, the 15-year-olds arrested on suspicion of Brianna's murder, have been questioned by police.
17:21The age of the suspects was completely shocking.
17:24The mentality of the junior world, to psychologically sink and do them things to a human being for nothing, is, like, mind-blowing to me.
17:32We can't have 15-year-olds stabbing 16-year-olds in parts.
17:37You know, you just can't comprehend that someone would do this, like, to be this young.
17:43Upon both of their arrests, the police had a search warrant.
17:46They treat both houses as crime scenes.
17:53I don't think the police were ever expecting to find what they found in Scarlett's house.
17:59When they searched her bedroom, they found this notebook on her desk.
18:08Within that journal, she had analysed and written pages and pages of really detailed descriptions of serial killers.
18:16That she, in a way, idolised.
18:19She noted their qualities and how they went about their killings.
18:23The top there was Harold Shipman.
18:28Geoffrey Dahmer was on the list.
18:30It was an endless succession of the darkest characters in human history.
18:38As police looked further through the notebook, they came across a really disgusting kill list.
18:45Jenkinson had written quite clearly the names of five people that she wanted to see dead.
18:52And Brianna's name was at the top of that list.
18:55Police came across a scrumpled up piece of paper that was shoved under her bed.
19:05It was headed victim Brianna Jai.
19:09This was a guide that had been designed by Scarlett for the pair of them to take Brianna's life.
19:17The plan, very chillingly, I think, had a smiley face at the top, drawn by Scarlett.
19:30Police go into Eddie's bedroom and they find a hunting knife.
19:35And it was submitted for DNA profiling.
19:37It later emerged that he had a fascination with knives.
19:44Just a few weeks before Brianna was murdered, Eddie was away on a skiing trip in Bulgaria.
19:49And he bought this knife that he brought back with him.
19:57Scarlett and Eddie are both being questioned in different police stations.
20:02There's options for suspects.
20:06They're told they don't have to say anything.
20:08Both of them, though, decided to talk.
20:14Jenkinson claimed, again, that Brianna had ditched them,
20:18that she'd gone off with a 17-year-old man from Manchester.
20:23Scarlett was lying on the first call to the police and consistently died all the way through.
20:28He had his account straight away as graphic.
20:34He must think that the police know he's at the scene
20:37and he must have to account for being with Scarlett.
20:41So his tale is that he was there in the park.
20:46His story was that he'd just popped behind a tree for a pee.
20:52And then he heard these thuds and these sounds
20:56and as he came out, he saw Scarlett standing over Brianna's body.
21:03He actually describes seeing Scarlett attacking Brianna with a knife.
21:09And then he's panicked and run off with Scarlett.
21:13You've got two accounts that are quite different
21:18and a really serious crime has occurred.
21:21That is a real red flag.
21:25Two people have been arrested.
21:27Beyond that, there's not much more we know.
21:29She had her whole life ahead of her.
21:32In the TikTok videos we'd seen, Brianna seemed quite outgoing.
21:37But she struggles with her anxiety.
21:40So it's one thing, you know, having the usual concerns
21:43that young people do when they're at school.
21:46It's another thing to have mental health struggles.
21:49And then on top of that, Brianna was also transitioning,
21:52which doesn't happen overnight.
21:54In real life, she didn't really go out much.
21:58Her room was her safe place, I think.
22:01Brianna would speak to me privately, as anyone would.
22:03If you've got a friend and they're struggling,
22:05then they're going to talk to you.
22:11Because of Brianna's, you know, difficulties,
22:14she spent a lot of her time in this special inclusion unit.
22:18These are designed to cater better for children
22:22who either have additional needs
22:24or whether there is behaviour issues that need to be addressed.
22:28Brianna was joined by Scarlett Jenkinson in that special unit.
22:32The two bonded over make-up and their appearance.
22:40Scarlett was in the inclusion unit
22:42because she was on what's called a managed move.
22:44She was previously at a different high school,
22:47which she was suspended from.
22:49This was the process,
22:51so she would spend time in this classroom
22:53before going on to the wider environment.
22:55What had led up to Scarlett being in the inclusion unit,
23:00the first school that she was at,
23:03she had poisoned a more junior student
23:06by giving them sweets that had been laced with cannabis.
23:11There may be a multitude of reasons
23:17why an alleged poisoning didn't result in a charge.
23:21But perhaps this says something about Scarlett's character
23:27and about this sort of duality
23:31because her parents claim that they never saw this side of her.
23:37Brianna wasn't aware of just how serious
23:40and how potentially dangerous Scarlett was.
23:44She convinced Brianna that she was a friend.
23:46The police have recovered Scarlett's phone,
23:57Eddie's phone, Brianna's phone,
23:59and on those there are a large volume of communications
24:03between the parties involved.
24:06There were many WhatsApp messages
24:08between Scarlett and Eddie
24:10in the months leading up to the attack.
24:12It provided real insight into their minds and their thoughts.
24:17It is unique.
24:19A really sinister picture starts to emerge.
24:33A boy at school is in a relationship with a girl
24:37who Eddie feels is somebody that he's attracted to.
24:42It's just absolutely bizarre
24:51that they're talking about murdering someone.
24:54They didn't carry the attack out,
24:56but it demonstrated what their motivations were,
24:59what their fantasies were.
25:02It was evidence of their thirst to kill.
25:05Over time, it was clear that Jenkinson became quite fixated
25:34and fascinated by Brianna.
25:42In the messages Jenkinson sent to Ratcliffe,
25:45she was explaining that Brianna was transgender.
25:54Ratcliffe referred to Brianna as a femboy,
25:57a really horrible, derogatory term.
26:07And you could see from the get-go,
26:09with Ratcliffe's response,
26:11his transphobic attitudes towards Brianna.
26:15He called her it in such a dehumanising way.
26:19It really showed that he had this negative view of Brianna.
26:34Peter received a message saying that Brianna wanted to meet up,
26:39and he was absolutely delighted.
26:41He was bewildered.
26:42He couldn't believe it.
26:45We planned the day.
26:47She came round about 11.
26:49She was very shy,
26:53and we sat out in the garden.
26:55She met my two children.
26:57My daughter was chatting about music,
26:59because she loves music,
27:00and I realised that they were both Swifty fans,
27:03and my daughter's actually going to see Taylor Swift.
27:07And I think about that still to this day.
27:09You know, I keep thinking if she was here,
27:11she'd, you know, go in with her.
27:13You know, I could have got her a ticket as well.
27:17Yeah.
27:17If you can, please make it to Brianna's vigil tomorrow.
27:26In the weeks after Brianna's death,
27:28you saw a huge number of vigils and events to remember her.
27:34I am seeing hundreds and hundreds of beautiful tributes for Brianna.
27:39I want her to be remembered as Bri, and not for this.
27:43The whole trans community who feel shaken after this.
27:45She was a larger-than-life character.
27:48To a trans youth!
27:49To a trans youth!
27:51There was a transphobic element in this crime.
27:55The trans community wanted to speak to that,
27:57and make sure that Brianna's name was remembered.
28:00And I want to begin by reminding you,
28:09you must stay at home and save lives.
28:12Scarlett Jenkinson spent a lot of lockdown in her bedroom,
28:22but she was like no other teenager.
28:26Many teenagers might have that fascination
28:29with the darker side of human nature,
28:32but for Scarlett, it was very different.
28:35She was purposely going out of her way
28:47to look for harrowing, distressing, disturbing content,
28:52and it's unbelievable that a young girl
28:55was watching this for hours in the privacy of her own bedroom.
28:59There are a great many links
29:02between accessing extreme material
29:06and exhibiting extreme behaviour.
29:10That's not to say that everybody who views gore online
29:15goes on to become a killer,
29:17but there are certainly some people
29:20whose brains are wired differently,
29:23and it switches something on inside of them.
29:26You'd expect a friend to be horrified
29:32by the messages that she was sending,
29:35but instead, Ratcliffe was, in a way, encouraging her.
29:39If those teenagers hadn't had such easy access
29:43to that extreme material buried away on the dark web,
29:46it is quite possible that Brianna would still be alive today.
29:51Scarlett's behaviour is escalating.
30:15Scarlett has made her mind up
30:17that she's going to do something with Eddie.
30:28They start to then develop this plan
30:32to do Brianna harm.
30:34The initial plan to kill Brianna
30:43was to make it look like she'd harmed herself
30:46rather than someone else doing it.
30:49It is very, very clear
30:51that it is Scarlett who has the whip hand here,
30:53it is her who is leading Eddie,
30:56but he's happy because for once
30:58he's got someone talking to him
31:00and being a friend.
31:01Jenkinson lured Brianna out
31:07on the pretense
31:08that they could allegedly get high together.
31:12They took these ibuprofen pills.
31:15When Brianna got home later that day,
31:17she was in agony,
31:19unbearable stomach pain.
31:23Her mum, Esther, said that she'd never seen her
31:26or heard her in so much pain like this before.
31:28She was violently sick
31:34and within the sick
31:35that you could see what looked like grape skins,
31:37which potentially could have been,
31:39you know, the casing of the pills
31:41that she had taken that day.
31:44Scarlett was disappointed that it didn't work.
31:47She was still alive.
31:48Ratcliffe researched, you know,
31:57what would do the job
31:58to make sure that an overdose was fulfilled
32:01and that Brianna's life would end.
32:07They conversed about how
32:09can it work next time.
32:11They had made their minds up
32:25that Brianna was going to die.
32:27The first attempt through poisoning her,
32:30it didn't work,
32:31so they carried on.
32:33There is, again,
32:42this sort of symbiotic relationship.
32:45They're feeding off each other.
32:47They're very dangerous individuals,
32:49really intent on killing.
32:51The police had gathered
32:57this huge amount of information
33:00and it shows how that day unfolded.
33:04Brianna's downfall
33:06was a mirror of the plan
33:08they found in Scarlett's bedroom.
33:11That note that police found
33:13under Scarlett's bed,
33:16it reads,
33:17meet Eddie at Wooden Potes
33:19at 1pm,
33:21walk down to library,
33:24bus stop.
33:25Eddie left his home
33:27and got a lift with his mum.
33:30She knew that he was
33:31in a funny mood that morning.
33:32He was snappy
33:33and that wasn't usual
33:34and she was trying to engage him
33:36in conversation
33:37but he was shutting her down.
33:39I can't imagine
33:40the journey in that car,
33:42you know,
33:42what Ratcliffe would have been thinking
33:44compared to what his mum
33:45would have been thinking that day.
33:47Eddie's mum drops him off.
33:51He then meets up with Scarlett
33:52and they're waiting for Brianna.
33:59Brianna left home
34:01at 12.45pm
34:02messaging her mother
34:04as she did.
34:05The dogs are locked up.
34:08She gets on the bus.
34:09And the bus driver
34:12told police
34:13that he remembered Brianna
34:14because she just
34:15looked so distinctive.
34:18He remembers
34:19that she was
34:20looking down
34:20at her screen a lot
34:22and texting.
34:25And this is a massive step
34:27for her,
34:28you know,
34:28she's really anxious,
34:30she doesn't go out
34:30very often.
34:31It's all like
34:37any parents
34:37at that point,
34:38all you want to do
34:39really is reassure them
34:40to say that it's all right
34:41and to go and have a good time.
34:46Wait until Brianna
34:47gets off the bus.
34:50She is greeted
34:51by Jenkinson.
34:54You can also see
34:55Ratcliffe
34:56loitering in the background.
34:57This is the first time
35:00that Eddie's ever
35:01properly met Brianna
35:03or been introduced to her.
35:06And then the three of us
35:07walk to Linear Park.
35:13Finally,
35:14they disappear into the park
35:16then make their way
35:17towards the bench.
35:27Scarlet goes off
35:29for 20 minutes.
35:30That's a long time
35:31for Scarlet
35:32to leave Brianna
35:33on her own,
35:34particularly with somebody
35:35that she'd never met.
35:41And there's no response.
35:44And we can only imagine
35:47what was going on
35:49in Scarlet's mind
35:50at that point.
35:52Maybe she was preparing herself
35:54for the attack
35:55that was going to come.
35:57Shortly after
36:01she returned
36:02that horrific attack
36:06was carried out.
36:10Some 10 minutes later
36:12the two dog walkers
36:13come along
36:14and disturb
36:17the two teenagers
36:19as they are standing
36:20over Brianna's body.
36:22Two teenagers
36:36have gone on trial
36:37accused of murdering
36:3916-year-old Brianna Jai.
36:41Boy Y and girl X
36:42who can't be named
36:43because of their age
36:44are accused
36:45of stabbing Brianna
36:46to death
36:47in culture
36:47for Linear Park
36:48in February.
36:49And I can't imagine
36:50what the families
36:51had to do
36:51listening to everything
36:53that happened
36:54to Brianna.
36:55I can hope her family
36:55can get justice for her
36:57and I hope that they
36:58can recover from this as well.
36:59I really hope
37:00that these pair of scumbags
37:01never see the light
37:03of day again.
37:04So at this point
37:05there really is a mountain
37:06of evidence
37:07against them.
37:08Both defendants
37:09in this case
37:09were charged jointly
37:10with the most serious
37:12offence known
37:13to the criminal law
37:14murder.
37:15They had the opportunity
37:18at that point
37:19to plead guilty
37:20but instead
37:22they didn't.
37:23Instead they chose
37:24to go to trial
37:26to plead
37:27not guilty
37:28and to put
37:31Brianna's parents
37:32through 18 days
37:34of utterly
37:36unimaginable horror.
37:38I can't imagine
37:39what their parents
37:40are going through.
37:40I can't even think
37:41about what their parents
37:42are going through.
37:43I chose to go
37:45with Peter every day.
37:46That's not something
37:47he could have dealt
37:48with by himself.
37:50I was there
37:50to support my son.
37:51That's the reason
37:52I went,
37:52just to be there for him.
37:55There was days
37:56where I felt like
37:57I didn't want to go
37:58but I was doing it
37:59for Brianna.
38:01She went through
38:01what happened to her.
38:06I had to be there
38:07for her.
38:09The courtroom
38:10was extremely packed.
38:11It was busy.
38:14There was 40 plus
38:16journalists
38:16in another courtroom
38:18listening
38:19whilst I was
38:20giving evidence.
38:22I've never experienced
38:23that in my
38:2420 plus years.
38:26I was questioned
38:27with regards
38:28to scientific findings.
38:31The hunting knife
38:32that was found
38:32in Eddie's wardrobe
38:34in his bedroom.
38:36DNA was found
38:37on the knife
38:38on the hilt
38:39of the blade
38:40in matching
38:41Brianna Jai.
38:43It was determined
38:44to be the murder weapon.
38:48Now one of two
38:48teenagers accused
38:49of murdering
38:50Brianna Jai
38:51has blamed her
38:52co-accused.
38:54The girl told the cause
38:55that any talk
38:56of harming Brianna
38:57was just a fantasy.
38:58At trial
39:00Scarlet changes
39:01her story.
39:03Her claim
39:04was that Eddie
39:04started stabbing
39:06Brianna.
39:07That was just
39:08a shock to her
39:09because it was never
39:10meant to actually
39:11go ahead.
39:11It was just
39:12something on paper.
39:14In regards
39:14to Scarlet
39:15some of the things
39:16that she was saying
39:17was quite frustrating.
39:18How she was trying
39:19to make out
39:19it was a fantasy
39:20all the time.
39:22Eddie maintains
39:23his story
39:23that it was Scarlet
39:25who carried out
39:26the murder.
39:28The crime
39:28is awful enough
39:29but then when it
39:30comes to facing
39:31the consequences
39:32they turned
39:32against each other.
39:34At no point
39:35did they show
39:37any remorse
39:38for any moment
39:39that had led up
39:40to Brianna's death
39:41or the aftermath
39:42either.
39:43It was very difficult
39:44to actually prove
39:45who had inflicted
39:47which below
39:48but for the purposes
39:50of proving murder
39:51against both
39:52the prosecution
39:54didn't need to show
39:55that we just
39:56needed to show
39:56that they'd acted
39:57together in bringing
39:58about the outcome
40:00which they clearly
40:01did.
40:13It took I think
40:13it was about four
40:14hours and the jury
40:15were back
40:16and it's like
40:18oh is that a good
40:19thing it's quick
40:19is it a bad thing
40:20it was Scarlet's
40:23name first
40:23and they said
40:25guilty
40:26and there was
40:27just like a big
40:28relief from all
40:29of us
40:30and I remember
40:32I don't think
40:32she heard
40:33what had been
40:33said
40:34so they asked
40:36what it was
40:37and the judge
40:37said it's guilty
40:38and it was just
40:40there was no
40:41reaction
40:42she just
40:43it was like
40:45oh okay
40:45type of thing
40:46they read
40:48out
40:48Eddie
40:49and again
40:50it was guilty
40:51the evidence
40:53that they were
40:54responsible for
40:55this offence
40:55was overwhelming
40:56I just
40:59I'm really angry
41:01about what
41:02they'd done
41:03and never
41:04forgive them
41:05never
41:06the monsters
41:08the teenage girl
41:10and boy
41:10who murdered
41:11the teenager
41:11Brianna Jai
41:12will be named
41:14up to now
41:14we've only been
41:15able to call
41:16them girl
41:16x and boy
41:18y
41:18because of their
41:19age
41:20they're both
41:20now 16
41:21the names
41:22of the care
41:23monsters
41:23who murdered
41:24Brianna Jai
41:25Scarlett Jenkinson
41:26and Eddie
41:27Radcliffe
41:27at least now
41:28we can finally
41:29give Brianna
41:29a little bit
41:30of justice
41:31I think it's
41:32the right
41:32decision
41:32completely
41:33Scarlett Jenkinson
41:44for the murder
41:44of Brianna Jai
41:45you will be
41:46detained
41:47at his majesty's
41:48pleasure
41:48I set the
41:50minimum term
41:51at 22 years
41:52Justice Yip
41:53provided a motive
41:54for the awful
41:56murder
41:56with Jenkinson
41:59she was thirsty
42:00for blood
42:01it was
42:03being able
42:04to see
42:06that horrific
42:08stuff
42:09that is
42:09on the dark
42:10web
42:11that led her
42:12into
42:13a dark
42:14and
42:15wildly
42:16obsessive
42:17world
42:18her sadistic
42:19motivations
42:20had been revealed
42:21quite clearly
42:22in the whatsapp
42:23messages
42:24Eddie Radcliffe
42:28you will be
42:28detained
42:29at his majesty's
42:30pleasure
42:30I set the
42:32minimum term
42:32at 20 years
42:33I find also
42:34that you
42:35Eddie
42:35were motivated
42:36in part
42:37by hostility
42:39towards Brianna
42:40because she
42:40was transgender
42:41the judge
42:42in her summing up
42:43said that
42:44transphobia
42:45had been an element
42:46I'd love to know
42:50your thoughts guys
42:51do you think
42:51that their
42:52sentencing is right

43:03opinion
43:03I do think
43:04they should
43:04have life
43:05it's impossible
43:11to point to words
43:12that the murder
43:13of my child
43:13has affected me
43:14I never stop
43:15loving her
43:16and I never will
43:17I knew she was
43:18going to be a star
43:19and the amount
43:19of support
43:20she received
43:21from followers
43:21on TikTok
43:22proved this
43:23and the amount
43:24of guilt
43:25I have
43:27for some time
43:27to be unbearable
43:28but I will
43:30ensure her memory
