00:00Before the vote counting had even begun, the Minister was flagging changes with early signs
00:10of waning voter participation.
00:12Voter fatigue at a council level is a really big concern for me.
00:16That's why I've been talking about reform like four year full spill elections.
00:22Certainly I'm getting a lot of positive feedback around compulsory voting and I'm really keen
00:27to have that conversation.
00:28WA and South Australia are the only states where voting in local government elections
00:34is voluntary.
00:35In WA, turnout is normally low but the Minister is especially worried this time round, with
00:42state and federal elections held earlier this year.
00:45Over the last few election cycles it's been hovering around 30 to 32 percent.
00:50I am a little concerned with the numbers at the moment whether we will reach that.
00:54When we did our forecasting we were looking at around about a 34 percent return rate so
00:59we're certainly under that from where we are at the moment.
01:01It's been a year of turmoil in the local government sector with the new Minister intervening to
01:06sack the City of Nedlands and Port Hedland councils with Coolgardie council narrowly avoiding suspension.
01:13I think the higher the voter turnout that would hopefully in my view lead to less dysfunction
01:19because you actually have more community participation.
01:21Well the sector is comfortable with what we've currently got.
01:24I'm not talking about the whole sector, I'm talking about the majority of the sector.
01:28That's what they've indicated to us in their responses.
01:31With the local governments I have been speaking to it has been mixed in antidotal feedback.
01:36Where do we stand on that?
01:38We want to see what the sector says as well as saying well what more can be done.
01:42The Minister says she's hoping to enter into formal consultations with the sector on proposed changes later this year.
01:49The and the safety player of the National Theatre.
01:55Culture says she has proven social kaikki acипs 1925-1923 in Kannada.
01:58We want them to be visited, but overall what we are saying well?
01:59What we do?
01:59The state of the national security organization we have anatha as well.
02:00The number of churches works for us to leave with the creative leaders.

02:03So now the Sennaus defensively is a 13 year public ministry and it is hopefully EnoyOO strong,
02:07with the sports students in our energy of the state.
02:09We want to응y and drive to leave that for everybody together this year.
