Luke Powell gives his take on Shrewsbury Town's victory over Crawley - as they made it back to back victories.
Transcript
00:01Full time at the Crowdmeadow and everyone here is absolutely delighted because Shrewsbury Town have claimed back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
00:09They've extended their unbeaten run in League 2 to three games and kept their third consecutive clean sheet.
00:16What a performance against Crawley Town. They took their chance late, dramatic at the end.
00:21Captain Will Boyle, the hero. Now, it wasn't the prettiest game. Two sides who have struggled so far this season in League 2 since their relegation last year from League 1 together.
00:33They, of course, met on the final day of last season, Crawley winning that game while there was nothing on it. It was a dead rubber.
00:39But this one, a lot to play for. Both sides really desperate for points and Shrewsbury, after securing a brilliant victory over Cambridge last weekend,
00:48looking to back it up and Michael Appleton calling for his side to show that character that they did last weekend again.
00:54And he certainly got that. They were fantastic. They kept going towards the end.
00:58Now, they had plenty of chances in the first half. For Fort Taylor Perry, who was making his 100th appearance today for Shrewsbury Town,
01:05was absolutely fantastic. Some of the passes he made forward for George Lloyd, he had a couple of efforts that he came close with
01:11and he looked a real threat. He was brilliant and a real nuisance in the midfield.
01:15He worked very hard for Shrewsbury today, as did Scully on the left wing.
01:20He had plenty of chances on the counter-attack, as did Shrewsbury throughout the game.
01:24And he was unfortunate not to take a couple of them. He had his head in his hands just seven minutes after the break
01:29because he thought he should have given his side the lead. He earned a corner.
01:33But then time just kept going on and Shrewsbury, as it went, it looked like they were never really going to find that goal
01:38to give them a lead. And Crawley did start to build some momentum.
01:42But just as they did, a lifeline for Shrewsbury, they were given all the advantage and a man advantage as well.
01:50As Crawley's Harry McCurdy was sent off for a challenge on the right side on Luka Hall.
01:57Off the ball, his second yellow card. He received his marching orders.
02:00Off he goes and it changed. And Shrewsbury, they sent straight away,
02:04we can go and get the winner here. And that they did.
02:07Just like they did the previous week against Cambridge.
02:09A corner from Sam Klukas. A wonderful delivery from the left side.
02:13Again, Klukas showing his brilliant ability and why he has been playing where he has in recent years.
02:19A brilliant delivery to Will Boyle, the captain who rose higher than anyone else,
02:23to power ahead a home and give Shrewsbury the victory.
02:28Raptures in the Salop Leisure stand.
02:32It was brilliant scenes. Biblical scenes.
02:34On the pitch, both in the stands and in the dugout as well, Michael Appleton going crazy.
02:38And we saw his emotion at full time as well in front of the crowd.
02:41As he went over to them and let it out, what it meant to him.
02:45The back-to-back victories for the first time since February for Shrewsbury.
02:48And three clean sheets in a row.
02:50They're now three points ahead of the relegation zone.
02:55And it's a massive, much needed three points for them.
02:58As they go into a tough game against Oldham next weekend.
03:01Now, there were times where they called on Will Brook a swelling goal.
03:04I thought he was superb, making a great stop at the end to deny Crawley.
03:08As they rallied, they did rally and nearly maybe find a goal to get a point.
03:12But Shrewsbury thoroughly deserved victory.
03:14And I'm sure they'll be celebrating tonight, that one.
03:17And hopefully, this can be a turning point for Shrewsbury.
03:20Michael Appleton after the game, saying that they're growing with belief and confidence.
03:24And that's clear to see.
03:25I think the additions that have been made have certainly bolstered them.
03:28They look much better, maybe, than they have done.
03:31And things are maybe starting to click.
03:33So hopefully, this can be the turning point.
03:35And Shrewsbury Town could be on their way up the table in League 2.
03:39It finishes here at the Crabado, Shrewsbury Town 1, Crawley Town 0.
03:43A much-needed and great victory for Shrewsbury.
03:46And hopefully, they can go and make it three wins in a row next weekend.
