00:00Hello and welcome. Good evening. You're watching Super 6 here on India Today.
00:03I'm Akshita Anandha Gopal and let's begin with some breaking news coming in.
00:11Sri Lankan Prime Minister Amarasurya is in Delhi, has met with Prime Minister Modi in Delhi.
00:17But the big talking point is welfare of fishermen.
00:22In fact, Prime Minister Modi in a post on social media has confirmed
00:27that there was a discussion on the welfare of fishermen with the Lankan Prime Minister.
00:32Important to highlight here that Chief Minister Stalin wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi yesterday
00:38seeking that Prime Minister Modi in his meeting with the Lankan PM
00:42raised the issue of retreating Kachatiba when Stalin said that fishermen were being harassed by Lankan forces
00:48and that too should be brought up.
00:52Let me bring in Ananda Keshav who is joining us from Chennai.
00:56We also have Geeta Mohan, a foreign affairs editor, for more on this.
01:00Ananda, to you first.
01:01You know, we're seeing this particular issue dominate politics in Tamil Nadu.
01:06And so with the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Lankan Prime Minister,
01:11just break down for us how crucial this particular meet is for the people of Tamil Nadu,
01:16particularly for the fishermen community.
01:17Ananda, can you hear me?
01:30Well, Akshita, in fact, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka has met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi
01:36at his residence in New Delhi.
01:38You know, this comes at the backdrop of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin,
01:43writing a letter to Prime Minister Modi by reiterating that he has written to him 11 times in the past
01:49and many a times to the External Affairs Minister requesting the Centre's intervention on the fisherman's issue.
01:57Chief Minister Stalin had once again requested the Prime Minister to discuss about the woes of fishermen,
02:03be it the releasing of fishermen or the releasing of those boats, those fishing boats that have been captured.
02:09That was the urge that was given by Chief Minister ahead of the meeting between the two Prime Ministers.
02:15And now it looks like the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has indeed discussed on this particular issue
02:22with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka regarding the welfare of fishermen from Tamil Nadu,
02:28releasing of the captured boats and how these two countries can collaborate on a shared partnership
02:33and ensure that the fishermen of both these countries are protected.
02:37Let me bring in our Foreign Affairs Editor, Geeta Mohan, for more details on that meeting.
02:41Geeta, you know, the Prime Minister making a mention of the welfare of fishermen being discussed in that meeting.
02:47Do we have details of really what was brought up by India, particularly in light of Chief Minister Stalin,
02:53raising this very issue, saying Indian fishermen are constantly harassed by Lankan forces?
03:00Details on the joint statement still have waited, but yes, like the messages and the tweets that have been put out,
03:06all regional bilateral issues between the two sides have been taken up.
03:10And remember the summer of this year, Prime Minister Modi was in Sri Lanka for a bilateral visit.
03:17And these were areas that were covered even then.
03:19Fisherman's issue is very close to how India looks at certain concerns that it has.
03:25And it doesn't need reminding from anybody.
03:27But yes, every time the Prime Minister is meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart or anyone from Sri Lanka,
03:37there certainly is a call for the issue of Kachetewu and fishermen's issue.
03:43So, no particular mention of Kachetewu really in that particular post by the Prime Minister.
03:50He has said, however, welfare of fishermen has been referred to.
03:54Thanks, Geeta.
03:55Thanks, Anagar, for those details.
03:56Let's cut across to more breaking news.
03:58And let's get you the latest updates coming in from Shabarimala,
04:07where there's been a huge controversy over that gold loot and the gold plating on the Shabarimala Dwarapalaka idols have been reinstalled.
04:16These are the idols right outside the Sanctum Sanctorum, from which the gold plating over four kilos of gold was missing.
04:22The footage on the right of your screens is from earlier today, from a few hours ago,
04:28when you had the gold plating being put back in.
04:31Remember that today you had the temple being opened up and the dashan wasn't stopped,
04:36but you had work underway to go ahead and reinstall the gold plates that were found at a sponsor's relative's house.
04:44The sponsor, Unnikrishnam Putti, has now been taken into custody.
04:48That's his footage there on the left of your screens.
04:50He's been arrested by the CBI.
04:52Because there are serious questions really of what he's done with the gold.
04:57There are allegations now that he faces of having looted the gold from these Dwarapalaka idols.
05:22Coming in right now, amid the gold loot controversy, the plates have been placed in the Sanctum Sanctorum.
05:32On the left of your screens is the images that came in earlier today of Unnikrishnam Putti being taken into custody.
05:38He's a Bengaluru-based businessman, one of the sponsors of the temple.
05:42And remember that for renovation work, the gold plates were removed and handed over to him.
05:48When it was brought back, it's found that about four kilos of gold was missing.
05:53He's been taken into custody now.
05:55Remember, the gold plates were missing and it was found at his relative's house.
06:00There have been various versions that he's been putting out.
06:02Nothing really adding up or making sense, which is why he's been taken into custody now for questioning.
06:07The CBI also is looking into the details of this case.
06:11You've got an SIT that's been formed and the SIT has also suggested a link between the accused and the Travancore Devaswam board,
06:20which leads to worrying, worrying questions about exactly what's happened.
06:27So the SIT report to the Shabrimala gold loot case exposing serious allegations of a conspiracy of corruption as well.
06:35With the missing gold now recovered and the accused arrested,
06:39questions of accountability, of betrayal of faith, loom large over Kerala's most revered shrine.
06:49The Shabrimala gold loot scandal takes a dramatic turn.
06:54The SIT remand report now exposes serious allegations of conspiracy, corruption and misuse of faith.
07:02The SIT report names Devaswam board officials and smart creations as key enablers.
07:10The accused Unikrashen Poti allegedly faked a gold plating application.
07:15He removed idols illegally, transported them across states and extracted gold at smart creations.
07:23Most of it was kept for personal gain.
07:25Even donations taken for Puja were misused.
07:28There was a minister, Vasavan, defends the probe, claiming arrests were made in just six days.
07:34The opposition warns the minister to resign.
07:56They call the arrest an eyewash.
07:58This is becoming something that is unreasonable, intolerable, where the man who is accused of a crime,
08:06the minister accused of a crime, continues to be a minister and pontificate.
08:11The Devaswam board chairman who has converted the Devaswam board into a questionable organization,
08:16they should not test the patience of Hindu believers in the state.
08:19They should not.
08:20It's nothing but an eyewash because, see, such a theft cannot happen without the connivance of the officials
08:31and the authorities, including the political elements.
08:36We are demanding that, first, the Devaswam board should be dissolved.
08:40Second, the Devaswam minister should resign.
08:43Only Krishnan Poti, the key accused, was arrested and remanded to 30-day SIT custody.
08:51The missing gold has now been recovered.
08:54Stolen ornaments, taken under mysterious circumstances, reinstalled the Shabrimala temple.
09:01The controversy dates back to 2019.
09:03Parts of the temple, including Dwarpalaka idols, wooden panels and sanctum door frames, were sent for gold plating.
09:13A betrayal of faith, alleged corruption at the highest levels, and a daring gold heist spanning states.
09:20The Shabrimala gold scandal has left devotees shocked and questions about accountability unanswered.
09:27Bureau Report, India Today.
09:33Okay, let's move on and talk about the big controversy that's been triggered by the Moortis refusing to participate in the Karnataka Caste Survey,
09:41calling the entire process useless and suggesting that because they don't belong to a backward community,
09:46they don't feel the need to be a part of the survey.
09:49The Karnataka Chief Minister, Sidra Maya, has now responded to the fact that they've chosen to opt out of the survey,
09:55saying that there are misconceptions.
09:57Again, highlighting that this is a socio-economic survey, about a social educational survey,
10:03and he says there's misconceptions about this that's led to people backing out.
10:08A quiet no that echoes louder than any speech.
10:16When India's most respected power couple, Narayan Murthy, and MP wife, Sudha Murthy,
10:22refused to take part in Sidra Maya government's caste survey in Karnataka,
10:26it was not just a personal choice, but a national headline.
10:30In a stunning move that has stirred up both controversy and conversation,
10:36Infosys founder Narayan Murthy and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy declined to participate in Karnataka's
10:42socio-economic and educational survey, terming it irrelevant.
10:47When enumerators came for the survey, Sudha Murthy wrote on the form that
10:52they do not belong to any backward community and the survey has no relevance and use in their case.
10:58But this decision did not sit well with the Siddharamaya government.
11:02Anayan Murthy, Sudha Murthy, a very successful lady, and she has refused to give the information to the surveying people.
11:31It is unfortunate that she has misunderstood about this socio-economic survey that is being conducted.
11:42The BJP, which has been portraying the caste survey as a ploy to divide Hindus,
11:48defended the Murthy's family's personal choice and claimed that the caste count is a useless exercise.
11:53Former Infosys CEO of Mohandas Pai to slam the caste survey and said that in Karnataka,
12:16ministers are more bothered about caste surveys, appeasement and not growth.
12:20The Karnataka High Court had earlier ordered the survey to be voluntary and not mandatory.
12:26While the government calls it a voice for the marginalized,
12:29has the snub from Murthy's put the spotlight back on its pet project?
12:34With Sagai Raj in Bengaluru, Bureau Report, India Today.
12:37And let's get to the latest reactions that have also come in on the war of words between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh
12:46over investment.
12:47All of this triggered by tech giant Google announcing that $15 billion investment
12:51to set up a major AI and data center in VISAG.
12:56The political heat escalated after Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh
12:59took a jab, a rather spicy jab at Karnataka, saying,
13:03we know our food is spicy, but it looks like other issues also are intolerable for our neighbors.
13:09In response, Karnataka Chief Minister Sidra Maya, as well as Minister Priyank Karke, have hit back.
13:14Sidra Maya has stated that investors will invest wherever and whenever they wish,
13:19but has maintained that Karnataka remains an attractive destination,
13:23that even Apple has invested in the state.
13:25He's also alleged that Bengaluru's image is being defamed on social media
13:30through what he referred to as fake narratives,
13:33perhaps over the fact that Bengaluru's infrastructure is facing serious questions.
13:37Priyank Karke responded to Nara Lokesh's comments with a sharp retort,
13:41saying spicy food is enjoyed by many, but only as a part of a balanced diet.
13:46He also took aim at Andhra Pradesh's finances,
13:49saying that the state has worsening fiscal deficit and rising liabilities.
13:55that
14:09Karnataka stands parts one of these countries.
14:11Why?
14:12We don't want to invest in Carnadale with infrastructure, we don't want to invest in our iPhone.
14:23We don't want to invest on Carnadale, we don't want to invest.
14:29We don't want to invest ininals.
14:32We don't want to invest in Carnadale when we invest.
