00:01Welcome to the inside story of Kevin Durant's trade resistance. Kevin Durant has shared the
00:05basketball-related reasons for his resistance to the Phoenix Suns' efforts to trade him to
00:10the Golden State Warriors earlier this February. However, he had not previously expressed his
00:15feelings on the matter, particularly the emotional aspects until now. Recently, the second season of
00:20Netflix's Starting 5 debuted, featuring a mini-documentary that chronicles Durant's 2024-25
00:26season with the Suns. This new installment offers some insights into Durant's mindset during the
00:31period when the Suns were considering trading him before the deadline, ultimately deciding to keep
00:36him. In an interview conducted prior to the trade deadline, Durant mentioned,
00:41I'm hearing from credible people I respect in this business that this trade is about to happen,
00:46so, I'm on the phone a lot, thinking, no way they're trying to do this behind my back without
00:52telling me. He added. I said, that's messed up. The Suns were struggling and initially seemed to
01:00be looking to trade Bradley Beal, however his no-trade clause complicated matters, leaving
01:05them at an impasse regarding roster changes. With a significant amount of money invested in their
01:10three-star players, the team began to contemplate the possibility of trading Kevin Durant. Durant,
01:17a 15-time All-Star, acknowledged the situation, stating, I understand the business. I know I'm the
01:24guy, this, is going south, I'd be the easiest to trade. He expressed a strong preference against
01:29being sent to the Warriors saying, but don't send me to the Warriors. That's what I was saying.
01:34I know, if you got to trade me, make it somewhere else but the Warriors. I don't want to go back to
01:40that storyline, and I don't want to dismantle the whole team. He further elaborated on his reluctance
01:45to be traded, emphasizing the potential fallout. I don't want to get traded because there's going
01:49to be a lot of, expletive. I'll take the whole team away from the next team I'm going to and
01:54deplete them from everything they got, just so I can fit in there. I'm not going to go through that,
01:59expletive, again. Especially with the Warriors. Durant had previously discussed this topic on
02:05in a recent episode of his podcast, Warriors forward Draymond Green revealed that he had
02:09communicated through informal channels with Golden State star Stephen Curry regarding his reluctance to
02:14return to the team where he had previously won two championships. Although Kevin Durant ultimately
02:18achieved his goal of playing out the season with the Phoenix Suns, the situation deteriorated as the
02:25Suns failed to qualify for the play-in tournament, finishing with a disappointing 36-46 record.
02:31Durant expressed the importance of perseverance, stating,
02:35The battle is to keep fighting and getting up with the enthusiasm that this is going to be the day,
02:39this is going to be the possession that turns the season.
02:42The unsuccessful trade was merely a precursor to what unfolded during the offseason.
02:47The Suns made the decision to trade Durant to the Houston Rockets,
02:50marking a significant shift in their roster strategy.
02:53So do you think avoiding a return to the Warriors was the right move for his legacy?
