00:00In Beijing, an important international meeting concluded aimed at accelerating progress towards
00:05gender equality and promoting inclusive policies to strengthen the role of women in society and
00:11the economy. A correspondent in the Chinese capital, Bruno Falsi, with the details.
00:17For two days, the Global Leaders' Summit on Women, organized by China and UN Women,
00:22brought together leaders from over 100 countries and more than 300 international representatives.
00:30Including heads of state. The event commemorates 30 years since the Beijing Conference,
00:37where significant progress in women's rights has been achieved.
00:47In 1995, I think a major contribution for me to get here was some of the principles that the conference established.
00:5630 years post Beijing, declaration and platform of action was adopted by that very conference,
01:03which gave us that blueprint, which today is the best ever for women's emancipation and empowerment.
01:13Current demands for women highlighted greater political participation, equal opportunities,
01:19and a more inclusive ecosystem that allows for comprehensive development.
01:26Looking forward to partnerships, to opportunities that would help us in scaling women's economic empowerment,
01:36women's advancement, children's protection mechanisms and also protection of the vulnerable.
01:41So I think it's the same with everyone. We're looking forward to opportunities.
01:44And we expect her to do more for women, to change the legal system so that those which don't confide
01:54to women's equality can be changed. We want more development for agricultural,
02:00for the agriculture in our country because most of women are involved with the agriculture.
02:08Delegates from Latin America and other regions emphasized that the summit also served as a platform
02:15to showcase national achievements, share experience, strength international cooperation
02:22and create new opportunities for women.
02:28We have the mission to showcase all of our different achievements we have from our country
02:35and also to have this interchange of ideas and experiences between our countries
02:41to strengthen also our cooperation and to create more opportunities for women.
02:46With the conclusion of this summit, Beijing reaffirmed itself as a global center of attention
02:53in the fight for gender equality. The participants' message was clear.
02:58International cooperation and political commitment are essential to advance gender equality
03:05and the comprehensive development of women.
