00:12China is strengthening its role as a leading force in the Global South during the 18th
00:17BRICS Summit, which concluded this weekend in New Delhi. President Xi Jinping outlined
00:21the bloc's new priorities. Our correspondent Blue Falsy in Beijing has more.
00:28The 18th BRICS Summit, held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, concluded with new agreements
00:36and proposals to strengthen cooperation among its member countries. During the meeting,
00:42Chinese President Xi Jinping presented China's priorities for the bloc's next stage.
00:49President Xi Jinping's proposal for the BRICS countries to take on the four pioneering roles
00:55left a deep impression on me. In particular, it called for efforts to build a more just and
01:01equitable global governance system and enhance the voice of the Global South. I believe this
01:07shows how China's four global initiatives are being translated into a more concrete action
01:13through BRICS operation. For countries of the Global South, this provides a broader platform
01:20to participate in global governance and promote common. On the sidelines of the summit, Xi Jinping
01:26and Narendra Modi agreed that China and India should be partners rather than rivals and highlighted the
01:33importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination within BRICS. China is engaging not
01:40only through the BRICS mechanism but also through other international cooperation platforms involving
01:45the Global South, where the majority of the world's countries are represented. Through these mechanisms,
01:50China has accumulated extensive practical experience. We hope China can draw on this experience to provide
01:56concrete and effective support and assistance to countries around the world. China will assume the
02:01BRICS presidents in 2027 and host the bloc's next summit. With 11 member countries, the group represents nearly
02:10half of the world's population and around 40 percent of global GDP. China led BRICS three times during the first
02:21quarter of the 21st century. Now it is essentially its turn to open the door to the second quarter of
02:27the 21st century.
02:28This second quarter is full of great challenges and profound shifts with the values that have been
02:33built up through global solidarity entering a new era, where the impact of fundamental technologies such as
02:40artificial intelligence and green technology is calling for a leap forward. So I see a very strong
02:45interaction between the global South, China's leadership proposal for change toward the future and a
02:51new acceleration toward shared growth. The New Delhi Declaration also endorsed greater participation by
03:04developing countries in global governance and reform of the multilateral system. Two of the main priorities
03:12is defended by China in the summit. Bruno Fauci, Beijing, China for Telesur.
