00:00Salaam from Afghanistan, country number 163.
00:03I'm here with my local buddy, Noor, who's going to be showing me all around his hometown
00:07of Mazar-Sharif and the northern parts of Afghanistan over the next six days.
00:11Yeah, yeah, sure.
00:23I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that Afghanistan is safe, because it's not.
00:27CNN says that the Taliban's presence is stronger than ever, which is confirmed given my local
00:33sources on the ground. 55% of this country right now is under control of the Taliban.
00:39Kidnappings and killings are rampant. The US has given it a maximum travel advisory of four.
00:45Do not travel due to armed conflict, terrorism, crime, and civil unrest.
00:49When I applied for my visa at the Afghan embassy in KL, I was warned by a few refugees I met in the
00:54lobby not to go. I've taken more precautions for this trip than ever before. Just arrived in Afghanistan.
01:14All of my videos and posts will be delayed until I leave the country. I'm keeping a very low profile,
01:20wearing a traditional shavar kameez, and shooting mostly on my Osmo pocket. I'm not telling anyone
01:25where I am except my parents and girlfriend. That all being said, I'm going to do my best to tell you
01:30stories about the people and culture of this hidden country that few outsiders have dared to enter.
01:36Same hair color. Look at my hair. Same, same.
01:39I've spent the last 24 hours exploring the northern city of Mazar-Sharif and it's absolutely stunning
01:47highlighted by the blue mosque. It is an unbelievable scene. There are so many people here having a
01:52picnic outside, enjoying the day, enjoying the beautiful weather. Thank you very much.
01:56Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you.
01:58The city has such a cool feel when you walk around through the bazaars. We're here at one of the
02:02bustling markets in Mazar-Sharif trying some street food. Eating the kebabs, the ice cream, the fresh fruit.
02:08What I see is nothing more than people living like people live.
02:12So Noor and I have sat down here at a traditional Afghani restaurant. We got all kinds of goodies.
02:16It's kind of like Persian food, a little bit like Pakistani food. It's kind of a fusion.
02:20Okay, so these kebabs, they're super fresh and soft. Like the meat just falls right off the bone.
02:26Traveling in Afghanistan is what I imagined the world to be like 300 years ago. Donkeys are used to transport
02:32goods. It's a cash-only society. Nothing is modernized. No skyscrapers, no fancy
02:38cars, no international brands taking over. No McDonald's, no Starbucks, no KFC. I know this
02:44video sounded a bit scary, but the truth always needs to come out. And the truth is also that I'm
02:48really excited to explore this country over the coming week. I just have a feeling that this is
02:53going to be my best content yet.
03:03What is your name? Drew. Drew. Nice to meet you. What's your name?
03:08My name is Amanullah. Amanullah? Nice to meet you.
03:12Where is our country? What? America? Yeah, yeah, America. Yeah.
03:20Are you Muslim? Uh, I'm no religion. Yeah. Okay. But I'm dressed like a Muslim.
03:28Very good. Yeah, thank you. Islamic labels. Islamic. See?
