00:00around here they call me mr small package and i he said that so close to my face
00:15what's up everyone shaq here and you know who this is he is one third of the reigning
00:25aew trios champions the former and perhaps soon to be aew world champion they call him the samoan
00:35submission machine but don't try and have your kobashi moment with this man because he can
00:40strike his ass off too samoa joe how are you sir excellent man how about yourself i'm doing well
00:46thank you for doing this today yeah no worries no worries all right now we have so much to get to
00:50with wrestle dream on the horizon but i do want to start here i know you guys are a little at odds
00:56these days so maybe it's no longer appropriate but what's the last medieval weapon that you mailed to
01:02john moxley uh the last one i think i mailed to him i believe was a blowgun yeah he said uh dangerous
01:12thing to give that man very dangerous thing to give that man he likes to he's uh he'll sneak
01:17through some bushes let me tell you so yeah he's he's not the guy you should give that to but you
01:20know that's for some poor neighborhood in ohio to worry about not for me so what's like the best
01:25reaction you've gotten from someone via like text or phone call after the fact or maybe their wives i
01:30don't know uh renee just texted me jesus christ in all capital letters that usually is pretty good
01:37that's when i set the halberd she got a little hot over that i expect a child whatever
01:43i'm glad you guys had the chance to hash it out and she knows where to find you most wednesdays right
01:49i know we've talked i know you talk in nauseam about the nope um that walk-off spot is iconic
01:58i don't want to rehash that but i'm curious it does take two to tango i would like you to christen who is
02:04the all-time number one goat recipient of the move because we're still adding like names to the list
02:11oh christopher daniels without a shadow of a doubt and many of them have gone unfilmed on various house shows
02:15back in the tna era where uh he had some very choice words as he flew through the air you know
02:21it was akin to like jazzy getting thrown out of the fresh prince house you know what i mean just with
02:26a lot more vulgarity as he flew through the air i think it speaks to fallen angels hang time that he's
02:33got the time to deliver all of that and such oh he does he'd get out a sentence and it'd be pretty
02:37foul one too at that so yeah he's all-time greatest never been beat probably him can we throw a
02:44honorary mention to joe cruz i just can't believe that this late john cruz i mean he's he's he's
02:49definitely threw himself right up there top three material with the uh with a mid-air questioning of
02:55where i was i'm still waiting on that joe cruz versus uh serpentico match i hope we see it's gonna
03:01it's gonna come up dude you know that slimy lizardy bastard he's gotta come up we have
03:07wrestle dream on the horizon you will be headlining this event and i think it's very appropriate
03:12because of what wrestle dream represents right it is in honor of the late new japan legend antonio
03:19inoki what does it mean for you being someone who's trained in the la dojo and has i imagine so much
03:25admiration for inoki to be able to sort of honor him or take part in something that moralizes him
03:32like wrestle dream so you know inoki if anything that i really uh respected about him especially
03:38during my time with him was he was an unlimited visionary he was a guy that just uh you know
03:43ambition was something that he ate every morning and tried to spit out in droves every day um and he
03:49was very much uh a promoter of being very ambitious and audacious and taking on bigger greater challenges
03:55so i mean that's the thing that kind of sticks out the most to me when you talk about antonio inoki
03:59he was a guy that was uh 100 willing to be audacious willing to uh blow up the whole situation
04:06make it as chaotic as possible just to uh try to build it into something greater and better and uh you
04:12know that's definitely what i take away from him whenever i remember him and what i admired about him the most
04:18i think there's a lot of meaning to being a world champion particularly in a relatively new
04:26promotion in aew congrats on their six-year anniversary how would you describe your mission
04:33statement as champion the first time around and does it look any different the second time
04:38it doesn't look much different i think it's pretty simple that um you know we want the aw champion to be
04:44the standard bearer of the industry you know to be the very best that this uh world has to offer
04:50and um you know i i think it's uh commiserate on myself and men like hangman and champions whoever
04:58carries aw championship to continue that tradition and to bear the championship in that in that type of
05:04light and um you know that's essentially what you're trying to do especially with a newer promotion
05:07like aw you know it's about establishing those champions establishing uh that higher standard that
05:13people who are to aspire to and uh you know i continue i hope to continue to add to that legacy
05:19very shortly i was very happy to see uh over the weekend two of your close oldest friends in the
05:27industry gave you a little bit of a shout out and that's when aj styles slapped on a coquina clutch
05:32onto john cena just curious have you seen the clip uh what was your sort of gut reaction to seeing them
05:38pay tribute to you as well as so many other people that have been integral to their success
05:44over these last few decades uh i haven't seen the match yet uh i've been out working all weekend but
05:49i have heard plenty about it and uh it's it's it's incredibly cool um you know both those men are people
05:56that i have a yielding respect for and i'm so happy to see that they have uh enjoyed the successes that
06:01they both have in their life and uh hey it was wonderful to be uh thought of in their big moment
06:07and uh you know my my best to both guys aj styles you know we know john cena's retiring at this year
06:14at the end of this year but aj has gone on the record that he will be retiring in 2026 could i just get
06:21your thoughts on how it feels to see one of your all-time legendary revival rivals call it a career and
06:27just i guess for those who maybe missed the early days sort of a peek into what aj means to pro wrestling
06:33you know i think aj is is one of uh a few wrestlers who kind of changed the face of wrestling changed
06:41uh definitely the prototype of an ideal wrestler i mean he definitely expanded that that category um
06:50and uh you know and much like john i mean both had a fantastic careers i know for many fans it's sad
06:56to see them go and i can obviously see why they've been such a big part of the industry for so long
07:01uh for me a bit of a different perspective but i'm super happy for them both you know these are both
07:07men who have achieved so much in this industry and uh you know really have careers that they can you
07:13know kick their feet up and look back on with a tremendous amount of pride and satisfaction
07:16and i'm always happy to see people uh enter that phase in their life uh in a healthy manner
07:22and have uh you know great future prospects of other things on the horizon which i think for
07:29both men is very much the case how much do you think john cena and frankie kazarian set your dad back
07:35with that chicken breast eating competition they had back in the day oh i mean a ton but uh then again
07:41uh if my pops is one thing he was always up for a challenge so he would have kept stuffing them full
07:45uh if they would have kept eating believe you me there was still food left over i mean after it was all
07:50said and done did did he have like a freezer in the back like where is he oh yeah he had a big
07:55industrial freezer he'd be yeah if there was somebody over there he if he had an excuse to
07:59barbecue uh he'd take any chance he'd get so he loved doing that well keep it keeping his kid
08:04fit during balkan season you know oh keeping everybody in the neighborhood fit it feels up to him
08:09oh that's good cold that's a good dad for you that's what you want around you know good guy get the
08:14neighborhood together um last thing on the wider spectrum of retirement i know you said previously
08:21in an interview with chris van vliet that whenever this next contract wraps up it's probably it for
08:26you is that still the mission is that still sort of the likely horizon for you i'd say most likely
08:33and you know and and honestly i think it's for a lot of reasons and i think most most of them are
08:39responsible so uh you know i obviously um you know you never want to outstay your welcome in this
08:44industry uh and uh i've been fortunate that i've been able to be involved with it for over 25 years
08:50now and um you know and the other thing too is um you know i think many of us want to uh preserve
08:57what we can of our health for for for our latter years so um it is something that is probably the most
09:03likely scenario but hey it is an unusual world and unusual opportunities come up so we'll see
09:09is there a date you'd be willing to share no not at all no it might be a surprise it might just be
09:14one day i'm gone and leave it okay i'm not as ceremonial as everybody else you know i like
09:18disappearing into the sunset yeah i've you know i'm curious why is that because i heard y2j say
09:24something similar like how do you perceive the way that at least you kind of want to go out
09:29uh why you know it's it's it's in a lot of ways i feel it's it's important maybe to me more than
09:40anybody else you know i i wouldn't want to hold up uh a young burgeoning industry for uh you know
09:48on behalf of myself not that you know anybody else isn't deserving of that honor i'm not saying that
09:53what i am saying is uh you know i i've always been something that's been firmly planted with my
09:58head toward the future and never tried to dwell too much in the past and uh it's kind of been my
10:02theory with the industry too i would hope we always look towards uh the future and uh you know not not
10:07obviously appreciate the past but not miss it too much man it's that's such an interesting refreshing
10:14take to hear and it reminds me of something else you told chris which is why you sort of scaled back
10:21on the muscle buster and it was out of respect for tyson kidd a co-worker at the time you know he
10:25doesn't need to see that every week pro wrestling and you know we were talking before the before we
10:31started about mma and these are collaborative but at the same time they're very sort of like selfish
10:36independent pursuits in terms of kind of what you have to be willing to sacrifice and put in and
10:43make do for yourself everything you say seems really conscious and mindful of the collaborative
10:49component of it all why do you think you've sort of developed that philosophy
10:55uh just because i've been involved in the entity that is uh entertainment show business since i was
11:02born you know well before i ever stepped into a pro wrestling ring i'd already had a 18 year career
11:06in show business uh you know all the characters that i saw in pro wrestling i had seen previously
11:11and i had known when great uh entertainment endeavors work and i've seen when they fall
11:17apart and fall to pieces and uh i always laugh at you i'm told this uh this comment comes out a lot
11:24you know you can make money you can make friends but you can't make both in wrestling and uh that is
11:28an asinine statement i've made tons of friends and i've made tons of money and uh most of the best
11:34stuff that i've ever created has been uh has come from a collaborative effort has come from people
11:39understanding where we're at being all on the same page and putting forth a herculean effort to put
11:45together something amazing for the fans to see and uh more often than not a lot of that selfishness
11:51actually it may make you money but generally overall leads to a lot of destruction and strife
11:55throughout the company and and can hurt a lot of things and can close companies down i mean so let's
12:00talk about the other uh side effects of this behavior so yeah i've been more conscious because i came
12:06from a world where the industry was completely destroyed there wasn't any opportunity for a man
12:11like me to make money i had to make that money i had to collaborate with other people to build
12:16systems and viability to make money in this industry and create new companies and those new companies
12:22weren't created in this backstabbing everybody for themselves environment it was created by a sum of
12:27great people much like aj styles much like myself coming together collaborating together and creating
12:32something better for the fans who they would appreciate and tune into so uh yeah this theory
12:39is based on what i've had to do to my entire life and my entire career is collaborate with people build
12:44new areas and build new companies to compete in this industry and uh that only happened through
12:50collaboration and helping each other out and uh i'm sure for other people their journey in the
12:55industry was different and it may be more knives out where they were but uh i knew it worked for me
13:00i knew it worked in the companies that i was a part of and uh i'm just going to continue with that
13:05regardless of uh what all the drama uh merchants may want you see i when you have a timer on these
13:14interviews and so much ground to cover it's hard to flesh ideas out but i'm glad that we were able
13:19to a little bit thank you for putting me and others on game joe no worries no i appreciate it um as we hit
13:25the back half here last last last last things i did get some fan q a's about this any ideas on what
13:32kind of role you want to have in wrestling whenever it is all said and done because i know a lot of
13:35people want to see you back on commentary uh you know honestly whatever role um will have me
13:41like once again uh i'm not worried about what it is i'll do uh that's not an issue for me i mean
13:48you plug me in wherever i'll i'll do whatever it takes to to to help us as much as we need to be
13:53helped in that area but um yeah i mean i i think i definitely would like to have some involvement
13:58with the industry i'd love to work with younger athletes and help them develop and become better
14:03uh obviously uh if they choose to to want to work with me but um yeah i mean that that's really it
14:10um and other than that i mean uh just try to continue to make stronger and stronger uh performers
14:16to uh for the fans to enjoy at home i mean that's really kind of what i want to leave to the
14:21business and and leave if i leave anything for a legacy it's that uh you know uh 10 superstars
14:27uh became greater because of my help and uh were able to entertain you into the uh near future
14:33you talk about sort of having to help build all these new avenues entering the industry in a time
14:41after it was destroyed in many ways it's so great seeing so many companies thriving right now
14:48you have aew i know tna just set their own attendance record um aew constantly setting
14:54records i mean all ends and etc is there anything worrying or concerning that you see in the industry
15:00right now that people should maybe be careful about the impacts it could have in the future
15:04um i think i think people um you know obviously the the pushing of the envelope is always going to be
15:11an issue here in wrestling and i think uh if there's anything i could tell people uh it's not
15:16about um you know necessarily trying to put on the biggest spectacle it's about making people care
15:25about you and as long as they they care about you and you made that connection with them uh you know
15:30you'll be amazed at what they're willing to go through with you and how much uh you won't have
15:35to lean on those types of things to get a reaction there's this legendary match that i always see pop
15:42up on my feed and ring of honor between you and loki did anyone tell you guys beforehand that wrestling
15:47is supposed to be scripted um i mean yeah we were told but then again how what i'm told and what i
15:54choose to do is vastly two different things and i think we learned that what can you just sort of
16:01walk me through what that experience is like in real time because i mean we know joking hit hard
16:06and i i think loki has a little bit of a reputation amongst himself too but what was that experience
16:10like in real time just another day at the office or yeah another day at the office i mean that's
16:15listen i i've always been a firm proponent whatever energy you you throw down the pipe at me is going
16:21to be coming right back to you and uh i mean that's just that you know what you get in what you what
16:25you put in and and uh what i put back out is usually uh pretty much on par with what you put in so
16:31uh yeah i mean that's what i tell everybody at that match you know like uh if you want to go
16:35that route we'll go that route if you want to go another route we'll go there too it's just i'll
16:39meet you wherever you want to meet me i know a lot of people much to aj style's amusement uh would
16:45walk up to you looking forward to their kobashi moment is there anyone you remember who actually
16:51sort of lived up to the energy that they brought you beforehand no no dude let's get to kobashi what
16:58are you talking about dude did any dude wearing a cutoff sleeve t-shirt in the midwest
17:05reach kobashi standard oh yeah just listen to your own question stare in the mirror for a while
17:12that's will come to you dude it's not me you know i thought maybe there's some sort of midwest
17:18legend out there you know who does it no dude no dude he don't exist sorry speaking of throwing
17:24back the energy at you um what's going through your mind when gabriel fluffy inglesias tells you
17:29that you smell like spam he's right right man we've got some usubita on the corner with him so
17:34i mean he had me dead to rights there was that the closest you've come to breaking character on camera
17:41oh no no i've come i've come close and several other times uh yeah but i mean yeah though listen
17:48he's a funny man for a reason so yeah i was pretty close who who who did it do the best job of making
17:56a great character it's you know brian danielson got me really bad once in roh and uh at the time he
18:05was pinning several people with an inside package cradle pin and uh i remember he looked me directly
18:12in the face and he says you know you think that you're better than me you think you can kick out
18:17of my inside cradle i'll tell you something buddy around here they call me mr small package and i
18:23he said that so close to my face i almost uh it was everything i could do not to spit everything
18:31about that and why dying laughing because one of the best stone cold delivered lines i've ever had
18:37done to me in a ring cheers to him for it i'm so glad i asked that question i can't wait to get my
18:42editors on the shorts for that one i'm sure they'll find it yeah good uh last couple here for you first
18:48back to the fan q a's give you one brief moment without wrestling on the mind joe what is your dream
18:55voice acting role oh um i mean i i'd love a crack at some of the marvel characters you know
19:06i'd love a good crack at juggernaut you know something like that that'd be really fun for me
19:10but you know we'll see a little marco kane action that'd be kind of cool but i mean also you know
19:14there's a lot of dc characters too man i was really about to say a little dark side i mean i love doing
19:18some dark side stuff yeah yeah it'd be kind of fun so um yeah i mean that those roles are kind of cool
19:23because you know those uh the animated features they do now are really awesome so it'd be cool
19:28to do something like that i could see juggernaut the second you said it i could hear the voice so
19:32i think oh yeah we got to bang the drums on all right last question i know you kind of touched on
19:37it a little bit in terms of what you'd like to leave but to tie this back to aew ahead of your match
19:43with hangman adam page at wrestle dream what are you most proud of contributing to aew during your
19:49tenure here so far uh yeah i mean really just uh the my ability to kind of showcase some of the
19:56younger talent that we've had here and some of the matches and um you know it's been kind of a focal
20:01point you know of just you know being there uh kind of working with the younger talent kind of
20:06expanding on what they can do and give them kind of a bigger uh platform for them to show off what
20:11they can do and i mean i just hope i get the opportunity to continue to do that
20:14joe ahead of your match with hangman adam page for the aew world championship this weekend
20:21if there's anything you want to tell the people man i'd love to give you the last word
20:25well in a world where many things are uncertain and and quality can never be assured come wrestle
20:31dream small joe will walk out your new aew world champion if you're assured of one thing
20:35it's that every wednesday night all will be right in the world for the king has returned
20:40so
20:53you
20:59You
