Councillor David Crichton explaining the development at Proxima Park, Waterlooville
Transcript
00:00I'm Councillor David Crichton. I'm the Chairman of Newlands Parish Council, which is the area
00:06that we're standing in at the moment and is the Winchester part of the west of Waterlooville
00:11major development area. Some people may not be aware that this is actually part of Winchester
00:18City and not haven't, even though it's part of Waterlooville. And this is a joint development
00:24that's been running for over 20 years now between Winchester City Council and Hammond Borough
00:30Council. The area we're standing at the moment is called Proxima Park. It's the industrial
00:36area that sits in the middle of the development. And as you can see from the background here,
00:43this is the next couple of buildings that are being built. We're slowly getting towards
00:47completion of this and this will complete it. The project, as I say, has been running
00:52for nearly 20 years now. Part of it built by Taylor Wimpey, the rest of it by the Granger
00:58group, the Granger PLC, on land that was originally part of the Southwark estate, which used to
01:04occupy and still occupies a fair amount of land down here, but used to spread right up here
01:09into Waterlooville. Granger are the development for this area. This particular plot, the area
01:18that Proxima Park was sold to the coal pension fund some years ago, who are the developers.
01:23So the first buildings have gone up. We have a number that have been built. There are two more
01:28buildings being built here, one more being built along the road for SSE as a switching centre,
01:34and the remaining ones will be built shortly. And that will complete the industrial development.
01:40The housing in the area is developed by individual builders. The phases are sold by Granger to them,
01:48so we've had Barrett's here, Bloor, Redrow, Persimmon, Bargate have all got sections of it. We have about
01:58four more to build, and hopefully within the next five, possibly ten at the maximum years,
02:04this development will be finished. And that will complete this part of Waterlooville.
