Radio Taiwan International, a government-funded radio station, says it has seen a spate of cyberattacks recently. In one of those attacks, its website's homepage banner was replaced with the Chinese flag, an incident which may have been an inside job.

00:00In September, this website of a government-funded radio station in Taiwan was apparently hacked.
00:06Its homepage banner, temporarily replaced with the flag of the People's Republic of China,
00:12which claims Taiwan as its territory, a claim Taiwan rejects.
00:16It didn't stop there.
00:18Radio Taiwan International, or RTI, which the government considers among Taiwan's, quote,
00:23critical infrastructure, said it saw repeated cyberattacks around the clock for several days.
00:29The case is still under investigation, but prosecutors say the attacks appear to be an inside job.
00:36At least two of the station's employees were taken into custody and then bailed, though the bail has been appealed.
00:41The news, prompting Taiwan's culture minister to urge more attention to be paid to public media.
00:59One expert says the incident reveals a potential national security weakness in the event of war with China,
01:09as public media are important for getting information out.
01:11The expert also says there's a possibility China could be involved, but it does not appear
01:37there's any evidence of that yet.
01:39For now, the motivations of the individuals concerned have yet to be revealed,
01:43and the investigation still ongoing.
