00:00China launched an average of around 2.6 million cyber attacks on Taiwan every day in 2025.
00:08That's according to a new report from Taiwan's National Security Bureau.
00:11The report found that China's cyber attacks, largely targeting Taiwan's critical infrastructure,
00:17have been growing over the last few years, from an average of 1.2 million attacks per day in 2023
00:23to 2.63 million in 2025.
00:26There was an especially large increase in cyber attacks on Taiwan's energy infrastructure,
00:33as well as its hospitals and other emergency rescue services,
00:36which experts say could be meant to compromise Taiwan's ability to handle casualties in a wartime scenario.
00:43China claims Taiwan as its territory and has not renounced the use of force to take control of it.
00:49Cyber attacks also increased during China's major combat readiness exercises,
00:54when it deploys boats and planes around Taiwan.
00:58And also during big events, like the first anniversary of Taiwan President Lai Qingde's inauguration,
01:04who Beijing calls a separatist.
01:06And when Taiwan's Vice President Bi Kim Xiao gave a speech inside the European Parliament building
01:11to lawmakers from around the world, which Beijing strongly criticized.
01:15The National Security Bureau said the attacks indicate deliberate attempts by China to paralyze Taiwan's government
01:22and public functions, and are part of China's hybrid threats against Taiwan during both wartime and peacetime.
01:29China's foreign ministry did not respond to a request for comment.
01:33But one national security expert says it's likely not just Taiwan that's suffering from Chinese cyber attacks.
01:40And other countries have been voicing concerns about Chinese cyber attacks.
02:07Taiwan's National Security Bureau says it established cyber security cooperation agreements
02:12with over 30 countries in 2025.
02:16So with China's cyber attacks increasing, we're also seeing increasing collaboration
02:21between Taiwan and other countries to counter them.
