00:01China has imposed export controls on rare earths and the United States responded by Dublin tariffs from Beijing.
00:09A correspondent, Bruno Falsey, brings us more details.
00:13Greetings to the workers of Telesur and to the audience following us in this transmission.
00:19I am here in the Chinese capital, this time to inform you about the response of Beijing government
00:25to the recent economic attacks from Washington.
00:30The Ministry of Commerce states that the new regulations on rare earth exports
00:36are a legitimate action aimed at ensuring the peaceful use of these strategic resources
00:45and protecting international security.
00:49Beijing also clarified that the controls do not imply in a ban
00:55and that exports for civilian purpose will continue to be authorized.
01:01Hours after this announcement, the United States responded with a 100% increase in tariffs on Chinese products
01:12and new restrictions on key software.
01:16The Chinese government described these measures as coercitive and discriminatory,
01:23accusing Washington of applying in a double standard and abusing the concept of national security
01:32to hinder its technology development.
01:36Beijing also emphasized that it does not seek a trade war, but do not fear one either,
01:44urging to the United States to respect the agreements reached between both presidents.
01:52The United States offensive also extended to the maritime sector,
01:58with the imposition of additional port tariffs on Chinese vessels starting on 14 October.
02:07In response, China will apply a special fee on United States ships, calling it a legitimate defense against Washington's unilateralism.
02:22The Chinese government stated that these countermeasures aim to protect its industries and maintain global trade stability,
02:33at a time where the economic conflict between the world's two largest powers is once again escalating.
