Transcript
00:00This is Tim Wasberg from Festtrek.
00:28I'm here in Toronto, Ontario for the Toronto International Film Festival.
00:33Every part of that fight is character-based.
00:37That's pretty insane.
00:39Yeah, but only the case performed by these guys.
00:44Because I don't want to, you know, two guys fight and stun double and real action.
00:51And then you cut back this real guy and stun double.
00:55That's why five guys fight or four guys fight is running around, you know, fighting around.
01:01We can see, we can see backshot and people, audience thought, oh, there's a stun double.
01:06No, coming back, oh, we can see the real face.
01:08That's only the case that the performer can deliver this kind of skill.
01:17Yeah.
01:18And the most important thing is this skill doesn't look like skill.
01:21That's a very important thing.
01:23Because they're not showing, oh, I can do this skill.
01:27Not like this.
01:28Because they're coming from, their skills coming from their character.
01:32So that's why me or Donnie, we talk there, choreographed and choreographed.
01:39Yeah.
01:40They perform the unperformed thing.
01:43Right?
01:44So this is a very ultimate level of the martial fight.
01:47Yeah.
01:48Yeah.
01:49Because now we just, two actors bring their close combat, one, two, three, four, five.
01:54But they're all different styles.
01:55Yeah.
01:56Yeah.
01:57So that's the very ultimate level.
01:59Yeah.
02:00The way they perform is not like they're, not like they're, you know, show off the skill.
02:07Yeah.
02:08Right.
02:09So just, just deliver the character.
02:10Yeah.
02:11So that's a very, very difficult.
02:24Whatever we're doing in the movie, our character's doing is actually with you.
02:53actually with like you said with a purpose and everybody's different and then somehow each one
02:57of us has it's not about right or wrong like joey said it's all about our perspective to see life
03:03and then what we're fighting for but for me yeah and for me i believe you can tell like you've seen
03:10the movie that this character napin is always struggling you can tell i think he's not a really
03:17a guy who can beat 20 people at the same time but this character is always somehow gets you know he
03:25gets up and he you know if he fought like until you know that somehow i think they're in the process of
03:31the whole movie even for me that i did that i also believe this character could die anytime
03:38but that's probably the most beautiful thing about it because i think representing that and then my
03:43amount of my friend he's a kung fu master who can really you know you can tell like the confidence
03:49there but in alvin even when i was playing it i know at some point this character could just die
03:56but the beautiful thing about it is actually he just until the end of course you see the movie
04:02the end and he knows that at one point closing to the that part he knows this is it but in the journey
04:11going to go into that he's always questioning but the the spirit the drive for him to save not
04:17just the wife also the kids and helping his friend finding his daughter somehow put him in the situation
04:23that i cannot die yet at one point close into that one when he gets up with uh our amazing master kang
04:32that final moment before the last chunk of that final moment of the fight he realized this is it but
04:40i'm gonna take you with me
05:10so that's probably something yeah if i have to die i'm gonna take you with me yeah that's something
05:18that i believe in action scenes the audience needs to see that because of you do an action movie for the
05:27sake of flashy coolness you know flying kicks whatever it's pointless but when the writers wrote those
05:35characters for us with everybody each one of us has different purpose different something to fight
05:40for they're so unique and i believe the audience is gonna see it more deeply and then it has a purpose
05:49and then that's a good action movie is all about and then we can blend the you know the intention and
05:55what we see you know what we're trying to create the illusion of violence in it it's hard and then the
06:00the five way that you just mentioned i probably that's probably the scene that so far in my career
06:06that's the highest art because it's not just complexity but there's intention in each one of us and each
06:12movement has you almost see there's a drama inside of it so i think that that made it so special for
06:19people to really hopefully enjoy this movie
06:46Actually, I think the動作片 has always been the main topic,
06:49which means the courage to conquer the evil,
06:51so I hope that the audience can also be able to bring in real life
06:56from the動作片 that I think can bring to my side.
07:02I think this is a very successful place.
07:16I think this is a very successful place.
