Oscar De La Hoya returns to the ring to take on Arturo "Thunder" Gatti on HBO Boxing. Plus an interview with Featherweight Champion Prince Naseem Hamed.
Transcript
00:00Sports, the network of champions.
00:05In the mid-1990s, the spotlight shone brightly on boxing's golden boy, Oscar De La Hoya.
00:11De La Hoya tries to cultivate his image as boxing's baby-based killer.
00:16De La Hoya with the punishment, and that's it, that's it! Oscar De La Hoya!
00:21As the new millennium approached, De La Hoya welcomed all challengers, looking to secure his place in history.
00:27This is the Oscar De La Hoya that Oscar De La Hoya wants to be.
00:31A vicious, merciless, power puncher.
00:35That's the meanest-looking Oscar De La Hoya you've ever seen.
00:38And often, his performances displayed the courage of boxing legend's pack.
00:42De La Hoya is right there! It's Leonard Harms all over!
00:46But recently, De La Hoya's path to greatness met greater opposition, and the spotlight shifted.
00:52Dane Mosley is out-hustling Oscar De La Hoya! Out-looking him!
00:57Now he's fighting him in a batter's mode!
01:00Oscar's golden glow faded to a marveled patina.
01:04The spotlight never had to search hard to find Arturo Gatti.
01:07Warriors are defined by wars, and Gatti has been party to some of the bloodiest of them all.
01:13Hyde has turned! Hyde has turned!
01:15Here comes Gatti! Gatti says, give me more!
01:18I love this kind of fight!
01:20The sign says, hey, you can almost knock me out, but in the end, I'm gonna get you.
01:26The sight of a former four-time world champion isn't likely to scare Arturo Gatti.
01:32Tonight, for the first time in eight months, Oscar De La Hoya returns to the ring
01:36to erase the disappointments of the recent past,
01:39and to once again bring to the spotlight his golden glow.
01:42The sight of a former four-time world champion isn't likely to scare Arturo Gatti.
02:12Tonight, we're live from Las Vegas, Nevada,
02:21for the beginning of a historic evening of boxing here on HBO,
02:25while the MGM Grand fills up to see Oscar De La Hoya's long-awaited return to the ring.
02:31Across the Atlantic Ocean, HBO Sports has a crew in Munich, Germany,
02:34where we will record and then televise the heavyweight fight
02:37between Vladimir Klitschko and Derek Jefferson.
02:40But first, from here at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas,
02:44it's Oscar De La Hoya facing Arturo Gatti.
02:47Oscar's first live fight on HBO in more than a year.
02:50And many wonder, what will De La Hoya look like in the ring
02:53after eight tumultuous months in his life?
02:59As this fight has approached in Vegas, there have been questions about Oscar's continued drawing power,
03:05but the stars are here, including those from the sports world like John Madden,
03:09like Sugar Ray Leonard, like Mike Tyson,
03:14and Sugar Shane Mosley,
03:16all in attendance along with other leading lights from the boxing, sports, and entertainment world
03:21to see the return of the once and perhaps future Golden Boy.
03:26Hello again, everybody. I'm Jim Lafley,
03:30and we welcome you to this unique edition of HBO's World Championship Boxing
03:34on an evening when we'll be following this
03:37with a look at a significant heavyweight fight from across the pond.
03:41Tonight, the drama here focuses on Oscar De La Hoya's return to the ring
03:45after eight unusual months in his life
03:48and after close decision losses in two of his last three fights.
03:52Since the split decision lost to Sugar Shane Mosley in Los Angeles last June 17,
03:58De La Hoya has fired his on-again, off-again trainer and friend Robert Alcazar
04:03and, to the surprise of many, replaced Alcazar
04:06with the father of another superstar fighter, Floyd Mayweather Sr., as his new trainer.
04:12De La Hoya has launched his new Latin pop singing career
04:15and achieved considerable record sale success with his first CD.
04:19To the surprise of many, he also got some critical positive response
04:24and even earned a Grammy nomination.
04:27Andy appeared as protagonist in court against his long-time
04:31and extremely successful and powerful promoter, Bob Arum,
04:35and, to the surprise of most everybody, won the case
04:38and earned the right to create a new business structure for himself
04:41as he resumes his career in the ring.
04:44So tonight, the time has come for Oscar De La Hoya to return to the spotlight as a boxer
04:49and to try to provide clues that he'll have the kind of passion and commitment
04:52that it would take for him to go back and beat the two men who got wins over him,
04:57Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad.
04:59On the threshold of something, Larry Merchant spoke a few days ago with Oscar De La Hoya.
05:06Oscar, you have options.
05:08So why are you doing this again?
05:11Did you blow all your money in the stock market crash?
05:14Do you need center stage? What is it?
05:16Well, it's definitely not the money, that's for sure.
05:20I just think that I have to redeem myself against the two fighters that I lost.
05:25If I beat Mosley on Trinidad before I'm 30, or if I hit 30 before, then I'm going to quit.
05:32Floyd Mayweather Sr. is your fifth trainer over the last 17 or 18 fights.
05:39Why do you change trainers so often?
05:41I finally found the right one.
05:43But you've said this almost after every time you've made a change.
05:47When I trained with all the other trainers, I mean, my physical is much stronger.
05:53I can last more rounds.
05:54I will not, I guarantee you, I will not fade away in the last rounds
05:58because of my physical conditioning that Mayweather has given me.
06:01The trainer that he is, what he's teaching me, no other trainer can do it.
06:08You've said about your two defeats and some other close fights,
06:13don't blame me, blame my trainers.
06:18I've never heard a fighter say that about trainers.
06:21What do you mean by that?
06:22When I started training with Mayweather, I noticed the difference right away.
06:29I was comparing the other trainers and the way they worked me out
06:33and the way I felt physically, and there's no comparison.
06:37Why do you blame them for the defeat?
06:40Why is it so hard to say I take responsibility?
06:44I mean, I take total responsibility whatsoever.
06:46I mean, it's me that's in the ring, you know.
06:49But it's up to the trainer to prepare me.
06:51Haven't you been around as a fighter nine years as a pro now,
06:55even longer as an amateur,
06:56that you should be able to make adjustments on your own during a fight?
06:59Well, I mean, if that was the case, then I wouldn't have a corner at all.
07:03Now that I have my corner, my perfect corner with Mayweather.
07:06Well, you haven't been in a fight with him yet.
07:07Right, but it'll be different.
07:09Do you think that the next act in your career
07:15will be as fulfilling as all the previous acts?
07:19I guarantee it will.
07:22I feel I have something to prove.
07:26I have to prove it.
07:27There's no choice whatsoever because if I do get one more loss,
07:30then, I mean, I don't consider it, you know, being over for a career,
07:37but for me it will be.
07:39I just don't want, I wouldn't want no more of it.
07:41So that one loss you feel more loss would be devastating
07:45and that somehow that makes you the hungry fighter you once were again?
07:50Well, one more loss would just tear everything down.
07:54I mean, because you want to be a perfect fighter
07:55and you want to have a perfect record and a lot of fighters...
07:58Great fighters have lost fights.
07:59No, of course, definitely.
08:01Because if you fight good fighters or great fighters,
08:03you're going to win some, you're going to lose some.
08:05I've always thought that if you lose against great fighters
08:09and fight them again and beat them and you have a rivalry,
08:12I mean, there's no problem with that because all the great champions did that.
08:16But if you lose against somebody who just is not worth it,
08:19then something's wrong.
08:21So, let's say, for instance, I lose against a Gotti or a Castillejo.
08:27I mean, I'm not saying that they're not worth it,
08:28but they're not the caliber of a Mosley or a Trinidad.
08:32So it would be very devastating to my career.
08:34It would end my career.
08:35I would end my career and put a hold to it.
08:39Thank you, Oscar.
08:41Those are the words of Oscar Delahoy within the past week.
08:43We bring you back live now to ringside
08:45with two-time heavyweight champion of the world
08:47and HBO's world championship boxing expert, George Foreman.
08:51George, he gets rid of the trainer.
08:53He gets rid of the promoter.
08:54He suggests that his losses aren't his fault.
08:56Is this the best way to start over for a guy who acknowledges
08:59he can't afford another loss?
09:00You got General Patton, Eisenhower.
09:03The last word is the people on the front line who stuck their neck out,
09:09put their life on the line, they respected these people.
09:12You can be the most knowledgeable trainer in the world,
09:14but in the long run, if your fighter looks back,
09:16he doesn't have no respect, you better change.
09:18And that's what happened with Oscar.
09:20He would not listen to these guys.
09:22They had lost respect, lost the respect that he had for them.
09:25So at the end of the day, the fighter must have people that he's confident in.
09:28You must respect top generals.
09:29They're not the most knowledgeable people,
09:31but the fighting guys, they respect them.
09:34And Oscar says he has that with Floyd Mayweather Sr.,
09:36and it's a mark of Oscar's star power
09:39and the trappings that his new structure want to bring to him.
09:42Larry Merchant, HBO boxing analyst,
09:44that the guy who has been perhaps the most entertaining fighter in the sport
09:48over the last six years, Arturo Gatti,
09:50is a bit player in the promotion that leads up to this drama.
09:54But Gatti's paycheck here tonight,
09:56a million and a half dollars,
09:57is by far the largest money he's ever collected to fight.
10:01You can see it as a reward for all the drama he created
10:04as a blood and guts lightweight.
10:06What does he bring to this tussle against a stylish welterweight?
10:09Well, for one thing, pound for pound,
10:12he's got the biggest cojones in the sport.
10:15He also brings a kind of subversive what if.
10:20Unthinkably, what if he were to win this fight?
10:24Wow.
10:25All those lawsuits with all those zeros on them,
10:29all the best-laid plans whacked out.
10:33And no more Oscar-only posters,
10:37ignoring the opponent,
10:39as though they were selling a new men's fragrance.
10:43Hero.
10:44But the stubborn fact is that the stubborn facts,
10:49caliber of opposition, offense, defense,
10:52are not on Gatti's side.
10:54What is on his side is his stubbornness.
10:58Pure, glorious,
11:00if I'm in a fight,
11:01I might as well fight to the end.
11:04Stubbornness.
11:05He is rocky.
11:08And Oscar De La Hoya,
11:09on this Oscar weekend,
11:12is another Oscar-caliber film,
11:15The Golden Boy.
11:16Mm.
11:17A good old film.
11:18And incidentally,
11:19one more thing Gatti has
11:20is the love of his fight fans
11:22who took the original odds-makers' numbers
11:25of 30-to-1 in favor of De La Hoya for this fight
11:27and have, by fight time,
11:29bet them down to only 8-to-1
11:31in favor of De La Hoya.
11:32There was a lot of Gatti money
11:34pouring into the sportsbooks here in Las Vegas today
11:36as the question arises,
11:38how serious is Oscar
11:39about continuing his boxing career?
11:42We'll get the first evidence here tonight
11:43as we look at the tail of the tape
11:44for Oscar De La Hoya against Arturo Gatti.
11:47They're both 28 years old.
11:49De La Hoya with a 2.5-inch height advantage
11:51and a 5-inch reach advantage.
11:52Gatti said,
11:54I'd be crazy to try to think
11:55I can box Oscar De La Hoya.
11:57I've got to get inside
11:58that length and quickness.
12:00They both weighed in
12:01at or within a pound
12:02of the welterweight limit
12:04and Arturo Gatti will not be putting on
12:0617, 18 pounds
12:08between the weigh-in and the fight
12:10at this weight level,
12:11the way he was at 130, 135, and 140.
12:14Punch that numbers, Larry.
12:16A look at their activity.
12:18As you can see,
12:18Gatti much more active
12:20but against a different caliber
12:22of opposition.
12:27Here is the most important number,
12:29the defense.
12:31And Arturo Gatti
12:32can be hit,
12:35is often hit.
12:36That's why he bleeds like the Red Sea
12:38and his eyes puff up
12:40like a frog in heat.
12:43Amphibian.
12:46And a comment on judging
12:48from our unofficial ringside scorer,
12:50Harold Letterman.
12:51Okay, Jim,
12:52we want to take this time
12:53to go over the four points
12:54that the judges are going to use
12:55to score each individual round.
12:58The first thing is clean punching,
13:00clean effective punching.
13:01The second thing,
13:02effective aggressiveness.
13:03The third thing,
13:04ring generalship
13:05and the fourth defense.
13:06And although they're supposed
13:08to count equally,
13:09the judges always give more weight
13:11to clean effective punching.
13:13Jim.
13:14All right, Harold.
13:15And as you watch tonight at home,
13:17you can log on to
13:17hbo.com slash boxing
13:19for live trainer audio,
13:20CompuBox punch stats,
13:22a live chat.
13:23You can also log on to AOL
13:24and score tonight's fight.
13:26You be Harold Letterman.
13:28Vote now with results
13:29given after each round
13:30and at the end of tonight's fight.
13:34On AOL.
13:36Nice look at the strip.
13:39Gorgeous weekend in Las Vegas.
13:41There are rumors
13:42that the ticket sales
13:42for this fight
13:43have not been as brisk
13:45as might have been expected
13:46for Oscar De La Hoya's
13:48return to the ring.
13:49There's a look at Gotti
13:50and his record to this point
13:52as a welterweight
13:53and the overwhelming bulk
13:55of his career
13:55fighting two weight classes
13:58south of here at lightweight
13:59or even three weight classes
14:01south at junior lightweight.
14:04Arturo Gotti of Montreal.
14:06There are a thousand guys
14:21with title belts these days
14:23and a few fighters
14:26with what seems like
14:28a thousand belts
14:29these days.
14:32But Arturo Gotti
14:34is the kind of fighter
14:35who the fans
14:37give a belt to.
14:38And as you watch him
14:40and as you watch him
14:40into the ring
14:40you're looking
14:41at Gotti's Achilles heel
14:43right in front of you
14:44because his face
14:47cuts and bleeds
14:48in fact so routinely
14:50that the comic line
14:52on Gotti
14:53is that he bleeds
14:53upon leaving
14:54the dressing room.
14:56For his part
14:56Arturo said
14:57I know that Oscars people
14:59think they've got
15:00an easy fight here
15:01because I'm going to cut.
15:03That's okay with me.
15:04I always cut.
15:05I know how to handle it.
15:14Oscar De La Hoya
15:15may dare to be great
15:17Arturo Gotti
15:20has dared
15:21to be brave.
15:23Gotti claims
15:29that he turned down
15:31a chance
15:31to fight
15:32Sugar Shane Mosley
15:33for numbers
15:34similar to the money
15:35he's getting here tonight
15:36because he felt
15:38De La Hoya
15:39would be the easier
15:40opponent.
15:43And here's a look
15:44at the record
15:45for Arturo Gotti.
15:46A loss early
15:47in his career
15:48to King Solomon.
15:49Two losses
15:49by decision
15:50to Ivan Robinson.
15:51Both of them
15:51were unbelievable wars
15:53tumultuous fights
15:54and an 8th round TKO
15:56at the hands
15:56of Angel Manfredi
15:57who cut him
15:58in the first round
15:59with a big right hand.
16:02And despite
16:03the rumors
16:04of slow ticket sales
16:05it appears
16:06to our observation
16:07that the arena
16:08is full
16:10or nearly so
16:11substantiating
16:12Oscar De La Hoya's
16:13assertion yesterday
16:14that the rumors
16:15were false
16:15and it would be
16:16a sellout.
16:17I've learned
16:18there are about
16:1810,000 tickets sold
16:20which has
16:21been beneath
16:22the standard
16:23he used to have
16:24but given
16:26what some recent
16:27fights and some
16:28very good fights
16:29have attracted
16:29here in Vegas
16:30way above
16:31the recent standard
16:33for other fighters.
16:34His conqueror
16:35Shane Mosley
16:36struggled to fill
16:37a 2,500 seat arena
16:39a couple of weeks ago
16:40at Caesars Palace
16:41a point which
16:42Oscar was at pains
16:43to point out
16:44to everybody
16:44this week.
16:45Oscar De La Hoya
16:56is so used
16:58to all the attention
17:01he gets
17:01he said to me
17:03the other day
17:04Jim
17:04that when he
17:06didn't get it all
17:07before the Mosley fight
17:09when Mosley
17:11got more of it
17:13than most of his
17:14opponents have
17:15he started
17:16right at that point
17:17to feel uncomfortable
17:19and suspicious
17:20which led him
17:23to believe
17:24at least for a moment
17:25that maybe there was
17:27something funny
17:28going on
17:29with the decision
17:29for this fight
17:32he's back
17:33where he wants to be
17:34he has
17:35all the attention
17:37you know Larry
17:38every boxer
17:39believes that
17:40once he loses
17:40that the promoter
17:42did something
17:42that's just the way
17:44we think
17:44we all think
17:46like that
17:47well I think
17:47I think human beings
17:49tend to rationalize
17:51their flaws
17:52their losses
17:53and certainly
17:54athletes are no different
17:56we think
17:56I didn't lose
17:57hey
17:58if there's any experience
18:00which demands
18:00that you believe
18:01in yourself
18:02this is it
18:03right
18:03you wouldn't go
18:04through the ropes
18:05if you didn't
18:05that's right
18:06so now for the first time
18:12in eight months
18:13Bela Oya goes through
18:14the ropes
18:14into a prize ring
18:15Gatti says
18:17he'll be rusty
18:18Bela Oya says
18:19I'll be better than ever
18:21because I've got
18:22a better trainer
18:22than I ever had
18:2332 wins
18:25the losses
18:26to Trinidad
18:26and Mosley
18:2726 KOs
18:29and the quest
18:30for titles
18:31in five different
18:33weight classes
18:34continues for
18:35De La Oya
18:36who says
18:37that if he wins
18:37this fight
18:38he'll be headed up
18:39to 154 pounds
18:40to seek a title there
18:42and now let's go up

21:43presenting
21:43the five
21:46kind
21:46champions
21:47of the world
21:49the golden boy
21:51is the line
22:13you're a little bit
22:13above the belly button
22:14but not very much
22:15that's good
22:15so it's going to be
22:16the belly button
22:17and the hip bone
22:17we have 12 rounds
22:20obey my command
22:21let's go up
22:23let's go to work
22:24let's go
22:25the first thing
22:27to look for
22:28in this fight
22:29is whether
22:30Gatti
22:31can deal
22:32with Oscar
22:33De La Hoya's
22:34excellent jab
22:35if he can't deal
22:37with the jab
22:38it will be
22:39short
22:39and bloody
22:41five years ago
22:42when Oscar
22:42De La Hoya
22:43first fought
22:43Julio Cesar Chavez
22:44here in Las Vegas
22:45he cut him
22:46in the first
22:4630 seconds
22:47of the fight
22:47with a jab
22:48no one at ringside
22:50would be tremendously
22:51shocked
22:51if De La Hoya
22:52cut Gatti
22:53in the first round
22:54first landed punch
22:59is a jab
23:00by Gatti
23:00that's not a good sign
23:04when you have a
23:05superior jabber
23:06comes in
23:07and let his opponent
23:07get the initial
23:09jab in
23:09Gatti
23:10Gatti
23:12Gatti's thunder
23:14is largely found
23:16in his big left hook
23:17and if Arturo
23:19has a puncher's chance
23:20here
23:20as even his most
23:22arduous supporters
23:22will acknowledge
23:23is probably the case
23:24that punch
23:25is the left hook
23:26now the one thing
23:28that De La Hoya
23:28didn't do originally
23:30it was jab
23:30to the body good
23:31he'd always have
23:32an excellent jab
23:32on top
23:33this time
23:34he's gone
23:34to the body
23:35you take chances
23:36when you reach down
23:37into those little guys
23:38territory though
23:39they pay you
23:40against 130
23:47and 135 pound fighters
23:49Gatti always looks
23:50bigger and stronger
23:51than his opponents
23:52now for the first time
23:54he faces off
23:55against a man
23:56naturally larger
23:57than himself
23:58you think about it
24:00Oscar De La Hoya
24:00is moving his head
24:02bobbing and weaving
24:03he's got the height
24:04advantage
24:05you don't want that
24:05right hand
24:07for De La Hoya
24:07Lloyd Mayweather Jr.
24:09promises that
24:10Oscar will make
24:11his seemingly
24:12underdeveloped
24:13right hand
24:14into a much
24:15bigger weapon
24:15in this phase
24:16of his career
24:17Gatti has always
24:19been vulnerable
24:20to the right hand
24:21Jim
24:21Angelman Freddy
24:23hurt Gatti
24:24with the right hand
24:25early
24:25and that punch
24:26ultimately led
24:26to Gatti's demise
24:27big left hook
24:28by Gatti
24:29the first thing
24:32the first thing I
24:32notice is that
24:33Gatti is doing
24:34more ducking
24:34and head movement
24:35to avoid the jab
24:37and that's why
24:38De La Hoya
24:38has been unable
24:39to establish it
24:40as yet
24:41and the problem
24:42with that is
24:43De La Hoya
24:43is bending his knees
24:45to try to jab
24:46you don't want to
24:47give up your height
24:48advantage to a
24:49puncher
24:49let him reach
24:51and miss
24:51up on top
24:52don't let him
24:53don't be down
24:53that way
24:54he wants you
24:54right hand inside
25:02by Gatti
25:02De La Hoya
25:05flicked him
25:05with the left
25:06Oscar gives up
25:19his jab
25:19he's just an
25:21ordinary boxer
25:22out there
25:22fighting for his life
25:23he gives up
25:24his reach
25:25he's got his legs
25:26spread far apart
25:27now De La Hoya
25:29lands his first
25:30effective combination
25:31and crumbles
25:32Gatti
25:32with a trademark
25:33left hook
25:34and Oscar De La Hoya
25:36left hook
25:36too big for Gatti
25:38and there's blood
25:39flowing already
25:40from under
25:41Arturo Gatti's
25:42right eye
25:42body left hook
25:47upstairs combinations
25:48can Gatti finish
25:49the round
25:50remember Gatti
25:52has been there
25:52before
25:53De La Hoya
25:54fireworks
25:54in the last
25:5630 seconds
25:56of round one
25:57there's the blood
25:58under Gatti's eye
25:59using a one pound
26:22end swell
26:23on Gatti
26:25another look at the
26:35knockdown Larry
26:36Gatti was doing
26:37excellently
26:38until he stood
26:39straight up
26:40and caught that
26:41left hook
26:42late in the round
26:44up until that time
26:45he had fought
26:45what for him
26:46would be regarded
26:47as a perfect round
26:49Oscar De La Hoya
26:51is a welterweight
26:53with a middleweight
26:54left hook
26:54and that left hook
26:56was the difference
26:57in round one
26:57the problem for Gatti
26:59is he has to fight
27:00a perfect fight
27:02to have any chance
27:03to stay here
27:04and now
27:06Gatti comes out
27:07winging shots
27:08from both sides
27:09seemingly already
27:10ready
27:11let it
27:11go for Brooke
27:13a very busy
27:14Oscar De La Hoya
27:15through 73 punches
27:16in round one
27:17and looks energetic
27:18at the beginning
27:19of round two
27:20as well
27:20an uppercut
27:22right hand uppercut
27:24by Gatti
27:24momentarily stumbled
27:25Oscar
27:26Deloia going to the
27:34body with the jab
27:34again George
27:35that's his weapon
27:37you want to keep
27:38that jab
27:38but the difference
27:39is he's going
27:39to the body with it
27:41sets up a four
27:43punch combination
27:44upstairs
27:45Gatti goes to the
27:48body with a right
27:49hand
27:49and that takes
27:50a difference
27:50when you're throwing
27:51five and six
27:52combinations
27:53you get hit to the
27:54body
27:55then you start
27:56getting winded
27:57now it erupts
28:00as Gatti tries to
28:01come back over the
28:01top of Oscar's guard
28:02and pops Deloia
28:04with two jabs
28:05I don't like Oscar
28:08being hit with left
28:09jabs by a shorter
28:10opponent
28:10just doesn't work
28:12well he's leaning
28:13in George
28:14he's almost leaning
28:15over that front foot
28:16not good at all
28:18that's okay
28:18leans in
28:22goes to the body
28:23double shot
28:24to the body
28:25two right hands
28:26upstairs
28:26something new
28:27a right hand
28:28absolutely
28:29he has mixed
28:29in the right hand
28:30much more
28:31effectively here
28:32than ever before
28:33here's a guy
28:40here's a guy
28:40got him
28:41who's been
28:41on the floor
28:42he's gotten up
28:42before in his life
28:43he's been blooded
28:44this is not gonna
28:45bother him
28:46only what have you
28:50done to me lately
28:51not what you did
28:52in a way
28:53the farther he falls
28:55behind on the scorecards
28:56the more dangerous
28:57Gatti will become
28:58because he'll get
28:59more reckless
29:00he has a left hook
29:01watch your heads
29:05question will be
29:07how long can Gatti
29:09last in the fight
29:10with the blood flowing
29:11the way it is
29:12but the big gas
29:13is under his eye
29:14not above it
29:15excellent body
29:16and another right
29:18hand to the body
29:19and Deloia has
29:22clearly worked
29:23to make the right
29:24hand better
29:25I like he throws
29:26his punches
29:27and step back
29:27and invites the guy
29:28to come in for more
29:29come on
29:40don't push him up
29:41like that
29:41next Wednesday

30:39work the body more
30:41okay
30:42keep your head moving
30:45by CompuBox numbers
30:45in round number two
30:47DeLoya landed
30:4832 of 42 power shots
30:50second's out
30:51substantiating the
30:53free fight observation
30:54that Gotti is an easy target
30:56particularly for a precise
30:58sharpshooter
30:59like DeLoya
31:00remember
31:02Gotti has only one good
31:04left hook
31:05from being into the fight
31:06doesn't mind being punished
31:09and coming back
31:10Gotti trying to unload
31:13a big right hand
31:14as we told you
31:15you can score on AOL
31:1615% of you gave
31:18the first round
31:19to
31:19Arturo Gotti
31:21the second round
31:23second round
31:24Arturo Gotti
31:24those 15% may need
31:27a little more training
31:28in scoring fights
31:29Oscar doing a good job
31:31of jabbing jabbing
31:32and moving out
31:32you know
31:33not standing
31:34that'll be
31:35get hit back
31:36in a previous exchange
31:37Gotti hit
31:38DeLoya
31:39with a really good shot
31:40DeLoya
31:41shook it off
31:42easily
31:42Gotti suggested
31:47to us
31:48in our meeting
31:48he said
31:49I'm a big puncher
31:50Oscar's never been hit
31:51by a puncher
31:52as big as me
31:53I'm thinking
31:53he fought Felix Trinidad
31:55maybe Gotti
31:56forgot about that
31:58there's a big right hand
31:59by DeLoya
32:00and Gotti
32:01and he didn't rush him
32:03Oscar didn't rush him
32:04the first time
32:06he's taken his time
32:07and after he's hurt him
32:08took his time
32:09to start all over again
32:10that's the new Oscar
32:13and Gotti
32:14seems totally unprepared
32:16for Oscar's
32:17right hand leads
32:18why wouldn't he be
32:19you don't exactly
32:21go into a fight
32:22with DeLoya
32:22saying I'm worried
32:23about his right hand
32:24yeah but Jim
32:24every fighter
32:25he's ever fought
32:26has hit him
32:26with that punch
32:27every fighter
32:29has ever fought
32:30Gotti has hit him
32:31with that punch
32:31right okay
32:32I hear what you're
32:33saying Larry
32:34don't get ecstatic
32:36about DeLoya's
32:37right hand against Gotti
32:37his left hand is low
32:39I mean it's good
32:40that Oscar's using it
32:41because he's been
32:43a one-handed fighter
32:44and I don't think
32:44he can beat the best
32:45fighters in the world
32:46with one hand
32:48no it was painfully
32:49apparent against Mosul
32:50another big combination
32:52by DeLoya
32:53Gotti taking a beating
32:56as round three
32:57progresses
32:58Oscar does his
33:01combinations
33:01and bag and invites
33:03this guy in for more
33:04we never saw that
33:06with Oscar
33:06don't punch
33:07he would burn himself
33:09out trying to finish
33:09a guy off
33:10this time
33:10he takes his time
33:11starts all over again
33:13big left hook
33:15lands upstairs
33:16another left inside
33:19Gotti lands a left
33:21DeLoya comes back
33:22with a right
33:23and a left of his own
33:24uppercut misses
33:25just short
33:25Oscar
33:26watch that shoulder
33:27blood and swelling
33:28there's now some
33:30blood
33:30just a little
33:31blood trickling
33:32from DeLoya's nose
33:34come to me
33:36here comes the ring
33:38doctor
33:38it's okay
33:43we're okay
33:44time in
33:45roll it
33:45box
33:46huge
33:54left hook
33:54by Gotti
33:55DeLoya comes back
33:57with one of his own
33:58straight right hand
34:00lands flight
34:01well we knew it
34:06would be entertaining
34:07well
34:10if you took
34:1210 to 1 odds
34:13you feel you're
34:14getting your money's worth
34:15yeah he's okay
34:19he's okay
34:20look at it
34:22look at it
34:22look at it
34:22look at it
34:23look at it
34:23look at it
34:24look at it
34:25look at it
34:25look at it
34:25look at it
34:25quit getting in
34:26exchanges man
34:27look at it
34:27this man ain't getting
34:28a little bit of
34:29hit with no kind of
34:30bullshit
34:30quit getting in
34:32exchanges
34:33box
34:34move your hand
34:35box
34:35okay
34:36I can't get you
34:40with nothing
34:41all the questions
34:41wide
34:42you can see
34:43everything
34:43move your hand
34:44counter
34:45the name of this game
34:46is hit and don't be
34:47hit alright
34:48here's Delahoyer with
34:50that straight right
34:51hand
34:52you hear however
34:54in the corner
34:55how Floyd Mayweather
34:57Sr. is telling
34:58him stop getting
34:59into exchanges
35:00box him
35:01there's the
35:05Delahoyer combination
35:05that punctuated the
35:06round later on
35:07yeah it's a good
35:09point
35:09the crowd is
35:10ecstatic George
35:11Floyd Mayweather Sr.
35:12is not all that
35:13impressed
35:13not at all
35:14you don't want a
35:14good boxer
35:15to get out there
35:16in those exchanges
35:16that's the only way
35:17they've got it
35:18can get into this
35:18fight
35:19the right changes
35:20Harold how do you
35:23have it through three
35:24okay Jim real quick
35:25three to nothing
35:2630 to 26
35:27Oscar De La Hoya
35:28stop that
35:29it's a 10 to 8
35:30round for De La Hoya
35:31because of the
35:31knocked out of round one
35:32Jim Oscar
35:33he turns that shoulder
35:34and watch
35:35he'll shove off
35:36with the left shoulder
35:36maybe you're drawing
35:38him for it
35:38well he's not
35:39shoving off
35:40this guy comes
35:41into his shoulder
35:41Gatti lands a left
35:44hook lead
35:44De La Hoya shrugs
35:46it off
35:46kinds of punches
35:48which were devastating
35:49to Gatti's opponents
35:50at 135
35:51De La Hoya
35:52has handled
35:53with ease
35:54so far
35:55Oscar blocking
36:05Gatti's left hand
36:06with his right there
36:07Gatti trying to go
36:08to the body
36:09Gatti has already
36:11won the crowd
36:12once again
36:13for his bravery
36:14you hear them
36:15chanting
36:15Gatti Gatti
36:16blood now
36:25coming from
36:26De La Hoya's
36:27mouth as well
36:28as a trickle
36:29from his nose
36:29De La Hoya
36:36using his right hand
36:37to parry Gatti's punches
36:39and looking for a chance
36:40to pot shot
36:41with the left
36:41Gatti swinging big
36:43with the left hook
36:44as the blood flows
36:45freely
36:46off his cheek
36:47and into his mouth
36:48Oscar's jabbing low
36:50jabbing low
36:50and then coming up
36:51with the right hand
36:52which is new to him
36:53so already
36:55Floyd Mayweather
36:56has made a mark
36:57on De La Hoya
36:58who lands a left
36:59and momentarily
37:01freezes Gatti
37:01comes back
37:02with a left
37:03and a right
37:03Gatti's shot
37:06right left upstairs
37:08Gatti taking the punches
37:09they cheered for the
37:12gladiators too
37:13in Rome
37:14they didn't have
37:16much of a chance
37:17with the Lions
37:17in the ring
37:18when you're throwing
37:19hard shots
37:20like Oscar's doing
37:21it's like sprinting
37:22you gotta wait a second
37:23and get your breath back
37:24that's when Gatti
37:25should attack
37:25once he gets done
37:27get right back on him
37:28the only thing
37:37that Oscar
37:38has stopped
37:38using his left jab
37:40which is not good
37:41for Oscar
37:41you on a coast
37:43you use your jab
37:44straight right hand
37:45lands again
37:46for De La Hoya
37:46one thing I've noticed
37:48about De La Hoya
37:49is he seems
37:50a little bit more
37:51relaxed
37:52than he usually is
37:53George
37:53he doesn't have
37:54his arms
37:55way extended
37:56you want to relax
37:58with your jab
37:59on your opponent
38:00though
38:00tremendous combination
38:03by De La Hoya
38:04got him hanging in
38:06but how much more
38:08of this
38:08can Arturo take
38:10let's go
38:15let me get in there
38:21let me get in there
38:22let me get in there
38:23let me get in there
38:24you alright
38:24yes
38:25okay
38:25he's alright
38:26good
38:26yeah
38:27good
38:27left one's right here
38:33let's have it okay
38:34he ain't got much left
38:36he ain't got much left
38:37just careful
38:38sometimes when you're
38:39getting hurt
38:40you got to get the killer
38:43like you did when you
38:44fight
38:44if you hurt him
38:46if you're on his knees
38:47jump on him
38:49okay
38:49okay here we see
38:53late in the round
38:54De La Hoya
38:56husbanding his strength
38:58for an end of the round
39:00barrage
39:01typically Arturo Gatti's
39:03opponents land
39:03more than half of their
39:05punches on Gatti
39:06if you notice the
39:07connect numbers from
39:08Compia Box for De La Hoya
39:10in the first four rounds
39:11he is over 60%
39:13since round one
39:15in other words
39:16he can't miss
39:17the only thing that is
39:23going to discourage
39:24Gatti
39:24is for Oscar to start
39:26circling him with that
39:27left jab
39:28stop moving backwards
39:29because you give him
39:30more courage
39:31straight right hand
39:32lands again for De La Hoya
39:33who has blood trickling
39:35from the outside of his
39:36left eye
39:37well that's when you get
39:39your jab and start
39:40dropping one hand
39:41that's what happens
39:42whatever happens from
39:48here on
39:49and De La Hoya
39:50certainly is in a
39:51commanding position
39:52I don't think he expected
39:54this kind of a rough fight
39:57when you're off for nine
39:59months or so like that
40:00every fight is going to be
40:01rough like that
40:02target practice
40:14target practice
40:16as De La Hoya
40:16goes to the body
40:17and the head
40:18drives Gatti
40:19into the ropes
40:20and the towel
40:22comes in from Gatti's
40:23corner
40:23and De La Hoya
40:25has a fifth round TKO
40:27Hector Roca
40:29Artura Gatti's trainer
40:30had seen enough
40:32and Gatti's infuriated
40:34but Roca made a humane
40:37decision for his fighter
40:38who was getting tattooed
40:40he was being tattooed
40:41by a puncher
40:42not just a boxer
40:43who throws a lot of
40:44punches but a puncher
40:45who's throwing devastating
40:47punches to your body
40:48and to your head
40:48stop it
40:49you can always recover
40:52from a loss
40:53but you can't recover
40:54from these major injuries
40:55in boxing
40:55and Gatti smiles
40:58through the pain
40:59as always
41:00De La Hoya
41:02gets the spectacle
41:03he wanted
41:04on his return
41:05to the ring
41:06closing the show
41:08by landing
41:0924 of 26
41:10power shots
41:12in that
41:13merciless round
41:14I think
41:15they're regarded
41:17as an encouraging
41:18return
41:19give him something
41:20to build on
41:21maybe he tried
41:23some new things
41:24out there
41:24maybe he caught
41:26some punches
41:26he's not used to
41:27getting punched
41:28shed a little bit
41:29of blood
41:29he's back
41:30in the fight game
41:31George
41:32welcome back
41:33this is not
41:33in a sound studio
41:35no
41:35well
41:37he was a lot
41:37more than we all
41:38thought he would be
41:39that's for sure
41:40losses or no
41:41fans love De La Hoya
41:43and they will love
41:44the performance
41:45that he provided
41:45tonight
41:46here's part of
41:49the work he did
41:50in closing the show
41:51by landing
41:5224 of 26
41:53power shots
41:54against
41:55an utterly
41:56defenseless
41:57Sartor
41:57got it
41:57what really
41:58turned the tide
41:59was all of those
42:00body hard body
42:01punches
42:01in the corner
42:02saw that hey
42:03this guy's gonna
42:03get weaker
42:04and weaker
42:05and weaker
42:06because those shots
42:07will drain your
42:08puncher and your
42:09fighter and get
42:09him hurt
42:10if it was just
42:12the head shots
42:12maybe but this
42:13was a body
42:14attack like
42:14I haven't seen
42:15in a long time
42:16relentless
42:18body attack
42:19attack
42:20Oscar De La Hoya
42:22putting an effective
42:24straight right hand
42:25with his trademark
42:26left hook
42:27not as much
42:28boxing
42:28not as much
42:29work with the
42:30jab as we
42:30might have
42:31expected to
42:31see in the
42:32past
42:32but a spectacular
42:34victory
42:34the particulars of
42:36which we'll get
42:36from Michael
42:37Buffer
42:37right now
42:38ladies and
42:39gentlemen
42:40before we
42:41announce the
42:41official time
42:42a round of
42:44applause please
42:45for two
42:46welterweights
42:47who went
42:48toe to toe
42:49while it lasted
42:50without one
42:51second of
42:52break
42:52Oscar De La Hoya
42:54and Arturo
42:55Thundergati
42:56referee Jay
43:00Nady
43:00calls a halt
43:01at about
43:02at one minute
43:03and 16 seconds
43:05of round number
43:06five
43:06the winner
43:07by TKO
43:08victory
43:09he is now
43:10on the road
43:11back
43:12from East LA
43:13the golden boy
43:14Oscar De La Hoya
43:18final CompuBox
43:29numbers
43:30and I suspect
43:31without knowing
43:31for sure
43:32that De La Hoya
43:32is near
43:33a record
43:34for accuracy
43:35particularly
43:36for power
43:37punch accuracy
43:38in a fight
43:38of this distance
43:39192 out of
43:40308 overall
43:42Gatti landing
43:4387 out of
43:44308
43:44so a difference
43:47of 105 punches
43:48landed
43:48and they threw
43:49exactly the same
43:50number
43:51and here's the
43:51power punch category
43:52where De La Hoya
43:53landed two-thirds
43:54of his power punches
43:55you know
43:56you might not
43:57do much better
43:58than that
43:58hitting the heavy bag
43:59so let's go to
44:00Larry Merchant
44:01with Oscar De La Hoya
44:02thank you Jim
44:03congratulations
44:04Oscar
44:05how did it feel
44:05to be back
44:06in the ring
44:06blood
44:07guts
44:08cheers
44:09the whole package
44:10oh it feels good
44:11first of all
44:11just a little word
44:13in Spanish
44:13gracias
44:14se llenó la arena
44:15gracias por mis fans
44:17los agradezco mucho
44:18y vamos a empezar
44:18como campeones
44:19como nunca
44:20más fuertes
44:21y para ustedes
44:22I felt good
44:23I felt
44:24but like I said
44:25before
44:25it's only the beginning
44:26with Mayweather
44:26I moved my head more
44:28but we still have
44:29to move on our toes
44:29more
44:30we have to
44:30use more distance
44:31more feints
44:32a lot more
44:33I only learned
44:34about 10%
44:34with Mayweather
44:35with this camp
44:35was this more
44:38of a battle
44:38than you expected
44:39oh no
44:41God he's a tough guy
44:42you guys all know that
44:42he can take a punch
44:43this guy
44:44can take a punch
44:45he's a strong
44:46Italian kid
44:47and I give him
44:47all the credit
44:48in the world
44:48but I knew
44:50that coming all along
44:51Mayweather kept on
44:52telling me
44:52throw your jab
44:52throw your jab
44:53more jab
44:53more jab
44:53and that right hand
44:54he's going to count
44:55he hit you
44:56with some good
44:57square shots
44:58didn't seem
44:59to faze you a lot
45:00but did you feel
45:01any of them
45:01they weren't square
45:02because what we're
45:03doing here with Mayweather
45:04is to brush off
45:05the punches
45:05even though they
45:06hit you
45:06they're not solid
45:07they're brushing off
45:08keeping that
45:09scoring off with the man
45:11and not letting
45:11him hit you
45:13but he's a strong guy
45:15he can hit
45:15so
45:16do you feel
45:18somehow
45:18that this was like
45:19you dove into
45:20the pool again
45:21and you're all wet
45:22and you're ready to go
45:23we have a long way
45:25to go baby
45:26a long way to go
45:27I can't wait
45:28to get to the top
45:28one second
45:29with Mayweather
45:29talk to us
45:31about your plans
45:32you want to fight
45:33one of the 154 pound
45:35titleist
45:36Castellello
45:36of Spain
45:38is that your next
45:39goal
45:39that's my next fight
45:40Castellello won 54
45:41we want to
45:42build up
45:43and try to make
45:44history in boxing
45:44not too many guys
45:46can win many world
45:46titles in different
45:47weight classes
45:47so I want to be
45:48one of the first
45:49in many years
45:50Sugar Ray Leonard
45:50did it
45:51a lot of fighters
45:52did so I want to
45:52go back to the top
45:53and make history
45:54talk to us
45:55about your plans
45:56after that
45:57either for your
45:58rematches
45:59either with
46:00Trinidad or Mosley
46:01Mayweather wants
46:02Trinidad first
46:03because of the way
46:04he beat me
46:04he beat me first
46:05than Shane Mosley
46:06but as they fall
46:08as long as I'm
46:10learning with Mayweather
46:10I feel unstoppable
46:12in my mind
46:12there are some people
46:13I've talked to
46:14in your camp
46:14who think Mosley
46:15would be a better
46:16opponent
46:17that Trinidad
46:18is a stronger guy
46:19at 154
46:20he's fighting at 160
46:22if he goes through
46:23with the middleweight
46:24tournament
46:25well into the fall
46:26would you fight
46:27would you then
46:28decide to fight
46:29Mosley first
46:30whichever one
46:31falls first
46:32whichever one
46:33comes first
46:34the situation
46:35has to be perfect
46:35the situation
46:36has to be right
46:36you know
46:38I was focusing
46:38on Gotti
46:39I was training
46:39hard for Gotti
46:40everybody was
46:41looking past him
46:42and this and that
46:42but no
46:42we knew he was
46:43a tough guy
46:44so now I want
46:45to focus on
46:46Castallejo
46:46that's the guy
46:47to focus on
46:47and then we'll
46:48negotiate
46:49with Mosley
46:50or Trinidad
46:51thank you very much
46:52again congratulations
46:53Oscar
46:53all right
46:56Arturo Gotti
46:57you weren't very happy
47:00that they stopped
47:01the fight at the end
47:02Arturo
47:03were you hurting
47:04do you think now
47:06with a few minutes
47:07hindsight
47:07they did the right thing
47:08well you know
47:09I could have kept going
47:10but you know
47:11I could have gotten hurt
47:12you know
47:12if I kept going
47:13but you know
47:14my train did
47:14my train had to rock
47:15and all
47:15decided I died enough
47:16and I respect his judgment
47:18that's why I have him
47:19in my corner
47:19tell us about fighting
47:22Oscar Delahoy
47:22you hit him it seemed
47:24to me with some
47:24really hard clean shots
47:26but he was able
47:27to deal with it
47:28well I think that
47:29Oscar Delahoy
47:30had a pretty good defense
47:32I never really hit him flush
47:33and I expected him
47:35to be a little bit slower
47:35than I was
47:36and he surprised me
47:37with his hand speed
47:37but he's a good
47:39great fighter
47:39you know
47:39I'm nothing against
47:40and you know
47:41I believe that
47:42I belong in the same ring
47:43as he do
47:44and it was a great fight
47:45you know
47:46he just had faster hands
47:47than I did
47:47nobody
47:49nobody needs to motivate you
47:51but they were saying
47:52a lot of nasty things
47:53to you before the fight
47:54they were ignoring you
47:55before the fight
47:56almost as if you were
47:58a bit player
47:59in his drama
48:00did that at all
48:02motivate you?
48:03of course
48:03you know
48:04I think that was
48:06just a step to
48:06something else
48:07you know
48:07motivated me
48:08a bit
48:09but just fighting
48:09Oscar Delahoy
48:10that's a motivation
48:11you know
48:12if you don't get motivated
48:13by finding a task
48:14you'll never get motivated
48:15alright
48:16let's look at the first round
48:17you seem to have
48:18a pretty good plan
48:19and be working
48:19very well
48:20in the first round
48:21until the end of the round
48:22what happened?
48:23well it's when I got cut
48:24you know
48:24I thought it was
48:24really severe
48:25and as soon as
48:28I started backing away
48:29that's when
48:29he caught me
48:30with that right hand
48:31the uppercut
48:31and put me down
48:33so it was
48:34it was the left uppercut
48:35that put me down
48:36that did the jump
48:36I didn't really hurt
48:37but you know
48:37it's the cut that
48:38he cut me really severe
48:39when I went down
48:40and this is the barrage
48:41in the last round
48:42yes
48:42you know
48:44he hit me to the body
48:45a few good shots
48:46you know
48:46I wasn't coming back
48:47with punches
48:48so you know
48:48my corner did the right thing
48:49I could have kept going
48:50but you know
48:51I didn't even know
48:52what could have happened to me
48:52so we can assume now
48:54that we're going to see
48:56more of Arturo Gatti
48:57oh definitely
48:57I feel good
48:58I could have kept going
48:59and 147 pounds
49:01is a good weight for me
49:02thank you so much
49:03again for another gutsy fight
49:04it's a pleasure
49:05thank you Larry
49:06Jim
49:06alright
49:08George Foreman
49:09it's one of the oldest
49:09tenants in the sport
49:10you can't teach an old dog
49:11new tricks
49:11but here at age 28
49:13and you pointed it out
49:14from the very beginning
49:15Oscar showed us new stuff
49:17notably
49:17a lot of new stuff
49:18jabbing to the body
49:19the use of the right hand
49:20the straight right hand
49:21leads etc etc
49:22now
49:22could he go into the ring
49:23and do that
49:24against a Mosley
49:25or a Trinidad
49:26or was he able to do it here
49:27only because
49:28this guy's such an easy target
49:29well he's already shown us
49:31that he could do it
49:31with those guys
49:32remember he's already
49:33fought them
49:33of course he didn't
49:34get the decision
49:35he's seen
49:36maybe he's got something
49:37in the repertoire
49:37even more so now
49:39to make him more effective
49:40so I think the future
49:41is very bright for Oscar
49:42and it does look like
49:43a good chemistry
49:44at least what we saw
49:44looks like an excellent chemistry
49:46between Oscar
49:46and Mayweather Sr
49:47Oscar's there
49:48I'm telling you
49:49and the promoters
49:50better look out
49:50there's a new guy
49:51new kid on the block
49:52what's his name
49:53Jerry Perenchio
49:54oh Jerry Perenchio
49:55he did this
49:56he did indeed
49:57make the fight
49:58Larry Merchant
50:00your take on
50:02the return
50:04of the hero
50:05well I would say
50:07it was the return
50:08of the star
50:09first
50:09I think he did a good job
50:12I'm not as prepared
50:14as you and George
50:15perhaps
50:16to say this is
50:18a great marriage
50:19yet
50:20that will be tested
50:21when he fights
50:22for the top guys
50:23you know
50:24we've heard this song
50:26before
50:27we've heard him
50:29almost cruelly
50:30put down
50:31his past trainers
50:32so I just thought
50:34in tribute to that
50:35that I would say
50:37I think I probably
50:39need a new producer
50:40because this guy
50:41isn't doing it
50:42as well for me
50:43and maybe a new
50:43director as well
50:44and Jim
50:45I don't know
50:46what you've done
50:46for me lately either
50:47hey listen
50:49I would blame me
50:50for virtually everything
50:51bad that's ever
50:51happened to you Larry
50:52I think George and I
50:53are saying it's a good
50:54marriage tonight
50:55but even we will
50:56withhold judgment
50:57and see what happens
50:58in the future
50:58probably the wise choice
51:00right
51:00if I've had a bad show
51:01we know whose fault it is
51:02it's mine
51:03and for my next mistake

53:19yet another of them
53:20the world featherweight champion
53:22the uniquely talented
53:23Prince Nassim Hamed
53:25who will be appearing
53:26in this same ring
53:27two weeks from tonight
53:29April 7
53:29for a TV KO
53:31pay-per-view
53:31mega attraction
53:32and the toughest fight
53:34yet in Naz's career
53:35against Mexican superstar
53:36Marco Antonio Barrera
53:38joining us right now
53:39is Prince Nassim
53:40from his training camp
53:41in Palm Springs, California
53:42good evening Naz
53:43how are you?
53:44good evening
53:45yeah I'm with you
53:46I feel great
53:46I'm glad to hear that
53:47you're getting ready
53:48for your first giant
53:50pay-per-view assignment
53:51here in Las Vegas
53:53it's a sort of
53:53rite of passage
53:54for superstars
53:55like yourself in the sport
53:56how excited are you
53:57just about the occasion?
53:59very excited
53:59I mean I just can't wait
54:01to appear
54:01in the MGM
54:02in Las Vegas
54:03I just hope
54:04the west coast
54:04is ready for me
54:05boy
54:06because I'm ready
54:07I mean I'm out here
54:08to cause the biggest
54:09statement of my life
54:10and the fight's
54:12going to be dedicated
54:13to every single
54:14Muslim on the planet
54:15ever since your
54:17exciting fight
54:18with Kevin Kelly
54:19in New York
54:19in December 1997
54:20we in the boxing world
54:22have been waiting
54:23for you to again
54:23step into the ring
54:24with somebody
54:25who can legitimately
54:26threaten you
54:27and now that
54:28finally seems to be
54:29the case
54:29do you agree with us
54:30that Barrera
54:31is the toughest
54:32opponent of your career?
54:34well we'll still
54:35find out on April
54:36the 7th
54:36but I don't agree
54:37with you no
54:38I mean I've boxed
54:39all different kinds
54:40of world champions
54:41and until the guys
54:42got in there
54:43and give me a little
54:44bit of problem
54:44before I stretched
54:45them and took them
54:46out
54:46that's when you
54:48turn around after
54:48and say well
54:49there was really
54:50good enough
54:50well they put
54:51Princeton Seam down
54:52and they caused
54:53him a few problems
54:54in the early runs
54:54and then he knocked
54:55them out
54:55see that's the thing
54:57with me
54:57once I hit you
54:58I'm taking you out
54:59the Barrera
55:00who fought for the
55:01first time
55:02after his
55:03unbelievable war
55:04with Eric Morales
55:04looked as though
55:06he may have been
55:07a little the worse
55:07for wear after the
55:08damage of that bout
55:09and you would have
55:10been an overwhelmingly
55:11prohibitive favorite
55:12over that guy
55:14but the Barrera
55:15who fought in
55:16November here
55:17against a pretty
55:19good fighter
55:19named Jesus Salud
55:20looked as though
55:21he was absolutely
55:22at the top
55:23of his form
55:24did that give you
55:25second thoughts
55:25about the challenge
55:26he might pose?
55:28second thoughts
55:29about what?
55:29about how good
55:30Barrera might be
55:31coming into this
55:31fight compared to
55:32what you might have
55:33thought after his
55:34war with Morales
55:34come on Jim
55:35don't be crazy man
55:37that just
55:38I have to be
55:38crazy Nass
55:39sometimes it's
55:40entertaining
55:40I can tell
55:41I mean I can hear
55:42it in your voice
55:43I can't see your
55:43face but I can
55:45see I can hear
55:46you I can hear
55:47but what you're
55:48telling me right
55:48now is basically
55:49like I mean
55:51what can I say
55:52no it was great
55:53for me watching
55:54him in a great
55:54performance is perfect
55:55for me because
55:56by the time I
55:57knock him out
55:57and take him out
55:58clean and stretch
55:59him they can't
56:00say that oh
56:01he didn't really
56:02box well before
56:03Prince and Seen
56:04boxed him anyway
56:04he's in the prime
56:05of his career
56:06just like me
56:07and we're gonna
56:07see who the best
56:08featherweight in
56:08the world is
56:09and I'm ready
56:09to get it on
56:10so you're promising
56:11a spectacular
56:12knockout for your
56:13fans who have
56:14come to expect
56:15that from your
56:15identity
56:16oh don't get me
56:17wrong one will
56:18get knocked out
56:19one of us is
56:20gonna get knocked
56:20out and it ain't
56:22gonna be me
56:22inshallah
56:23I mean all
56:25I've got is a
56:26pure confidence
56:27about me and I've
56:30trained so so
56:30hard and I'm
56:31prepared for
56:32whatever he brings
56:33and you know I've
56:35got Allah in my
56:35heart and for
56:36every single Muslim
56:37out there watching
56:38this they can
56:39basically you know
56:41have in their heart
56:41make a nice du'a
56:42because I'm so
56:43confident that I'm
56:44gonna knock that
