00:32And in Palestine, health authorities warned of the urgent need for medical supplies in the Gaza Strip.
00:43Hello, welcome from the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Resto Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin the news.
01:02In Venezuela, Catholic youth from the state of Trujillo gathered a tribute to Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez in the Great March for Faith, Peace and Life.
01:11Hundreds of young people began their journey from the municipality of Rafael Rangel, and it would end at the National Shrine of Znotu.
01:18Different parishes, movements and apostolates joined their voices and hearts in the exploration of faith, led by priest Jose Gregorio Escalona, Vicar General of the Diocese of Trujillo.
01:29This mobilization seeks more peace, community life and values among Venezuelan youth.
01:34And Venezuela commemorates 533 years of indigenous resistance with symbolic activities to pay tribute to the struggle of the indigenous peoples.
01:46The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, who together with other Colombian authorities performed the solemn flag raising ceremony at the National Pantheon.
01:57In this context, the minister warned that Venezuela continues to be besieged by the U.S. Empire and its allies, who seek to undermine its sovereignty.
02:06During the ceremony, a thorough offering was placed at the foot of the statue of Simón Bolívar,
02:11and the symbolic remains of the chieftains Guaicaipudo and Apaquana.
02:15The Indigenous Resistance Day is commemorated in recognition of the tireless resistance of these peoples in defending their territories and culture.
02:24Meanwhile, in Ecuador, indigenous organizations mobilized in the day of resistance and denounced the neoliberal measures of Daniel Nopoa's government during the national strike.
02:37The indigenous movements gathered in the cities of Quito, Guayaquil and Otavalo.
02:42The organization denounces the deployment of the armed forces, the national police, and more than 5,000 troops to attempt to stop the peaceful mobilization and criminalize the right to protest.
02:51Meanwhile, in El Salvador, on the eve of Resistance Day, indigenous communities held a festival called Hoots, a popular affair that highlighted the need to preserve traditional agriculture in order to guarantee food sovereignty.
03:09A correspondent Roberto Hugo Presa, with more.
03:13Nahuizalco is one of the few localities with an indigenous population.
03:19This Saturday, its inhabitants gathered to show the world their ability to cultivate the land without damaging it.
03:25These products, for example, are made from the seeds of a native tree called ojult.
03:31We cook it with ashes, just like our grandparents did, and with that we can make dishes as tortillas, tamales, pupaces, enchiladas, cakes, and incorporate it into our daily diet.
03:44But we have a dehydration process for 22 or 30 days directly in the sun, and when it is dry, we roast it, grind it, and with that we can make a ground ojult, which is like a flour, and with that we can make bread, cookies, desserts, and some drinks like horchata.
04:03These small-scale producers use traditional methods without chemicals that poison the soil, water, and air.
04:16But they are also trained to grow their own food and guarantee food sovereignty, which is increasingly at risk.
04:22As indigenous people, we do it as our grandmothers taught us.
04:28First, we preserve the native seed, because we know that native seeds are the best seeds that human beings should have.
04:38And the food we have to grow is first and foremost not to pollute our mother earth and to sow the best for our family.
04:51In these times of climate crisis and environmental damage, this is where we need to look back to understand and comprehend our relationship with nature in a different way.
05:06Their products are displayed and sold at these types of fairs, sponsored by the Food Sovereignty Committee, an organization that is aware of the difficult situation faced by indigenous peoples.
05:19Unfortunately, this current administration has been in power for six years now, and we have not seen any real progress in developing agriculture for these people, right?
05:30Rather, what you are seeing is perhaps the maintenance of a certain level of food security without a guarantee for salvadoreans as to where this product comes from.
05:38With this ritual, they gave thanks to the earth, water, sun, and wind, and as they do every year, they denounced neglect and isolation. Similar events are held over the weekend in various locations across the country.
06:01The activities carried out as part of Resistance Day are more than just a commemoration. They are a call to governments and societies to take into account indigenous peoples who have traditionally been ignored.
