00:00Cuba denounced the Israeli genocide on Palestinians and condemned the U.S.
00:17aggressions against Venezuela during its address at the 80th United Nations
00:21General Assembly. In Venezuela the national drill for disasters and armed
00:28conflicts was successfully completed with a high citizen turnout in defense of peace.
00:32And in Argentina thousands rallied to demand justice for the triple femicide of three young women.
00:41Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from De JesĂşs Studios in Havana,
00:50Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:58The fifth day of the general debate of the 80th United Nations General Assembly is concluded
01:13with representatives of the U.N. member states discussing unurgent issues to achieve world
01:19peace. The need for multilateralism and international cooperation to secure peace and the sovereignty
01:24of nations became one of the most important themes of debates. Species also focused on
01:30the need to reverse the unipolar order that the United States is trying to impose on the
01:34world. Criticism of imperialist expansionism and the persistence of inequalities that violate
01:38rights have become major topics of discussion.
01:43In this context let's go over some of the main remarks during today's debate. The Foreign Minister
01:51of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez, denounced during his speech Israel's genocide against Palestine
01:56and reiterated Cuba's solidarity with the Palestinian people and their just cause for freedom and
02:00independence. On behalf of the government and people of Cuba I reiterate our firmest solidarity
02:07with the Palestinian people and with their just cause for freedom, independence and an
02:13end to the Zionist occupation. The Cuban top diplomat also reaffirmed his rejection of threats
02:23of aggression against Venezuela and his support for the Bolivarian government and President
02:27Nicolás Maduro.
02:34We reaffirm our energetic rejection of threats of aggression against Venezuela, and our full
02:44support for the Bolivarian and Chavista government of this sister Latin American and Caribbean nation, and for
02:54the People's Military Union, led by the legitimate President Nicolás Maduro Moros.
03:01In Argentina, protests are being held by the feminist collective to demand justice for a triple
03:08femicide of three young women who were deceived, tortured and murdered. But also we re going to continue
03:15with other topics in the UN. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, reaffirmed the nation's
03:21to stop the blockade against Cuba and express his support for Venezuela in the face of the US military presence
03:26in the Caribbean Sea.
03:28Together with an absolute majority of UN members calls for the immediate lifting without prior conditions of the
03:38trade blockade against Cuba which has been in place for more than 60 years and for it to be removed from the
03:44notorious list of state sponsors of terrorism. We express our solidarity with the people of Venezuela in the face of
03:51external sanctions pressure and threats. We advocate for Latin America and the Caribbean to remain a zone of peace and cooperation.
03:59Moreover, Lavrov joined the international condemnation of the massacre carried out by the Israeli army in Gaza Strip,
04:09and drew attention to attempts to hinder the recognition of the Palestinian state.
04:14There is no justification for the brutal killings of the civilian population of Palestine or for terrorist attacks.
04:21There is also no justification for the collective punishment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip,
04:26where Palestinian children are dying from bombing and starvation. Hospitals and schools are being destroyed,
04:32and hundreds of thousands of people are being left without shelter. There is no justification for plans to annex the West Bank.
04:40We are essentially dealing with an attempt at a kind of coup d'etat aimed at burying UN decisions on the creation of a Palestinian state.
04:51Recently, a number of Western governments announced their recognition of the state of Palestine.
04:57Moreover, they announced their intention to do so several months ago. The question then arises, why did they wait so long?
05:07It seems that they had hoped that soon, by the time the General Assembly session was convened, there would be nothing and no one left to recognize.
05:16The situation requires urgent action to prevent such a scenario, which was strongly advocated by the participants at the higher-level international conference on Palestine.
05:28Our Special Envoy Isaac Garcia asked Russian Foreign Minister Sagalavrov about different issues related to Venezuela.
05:37Russian top diplomat expressed concern on the increased U.S. military actions in the Caribbean.
05:43As for the second question, we are without a doubt extremely concerned by the fact that the U.S. have organized their military activity near Venezuelan waters.
05:53I spoke with the Venezuelan Foreign Minister and many other representatives from the Caribbean, and I can see that they are concerned about this issue.
06:00Today I had a meeting with the Nicaraguan Foreign Minister, and the situation is indeed very serious.
06:06The Russian Foreign Minister Sagalavrov also stated that Venezuela has the right to determine its own destiny.
06:13With regard to what is happening in Venezuela, I cannot rule out the possibility that some are seeking to obtain a mandate, so that they can then accuse Venezuela of hiding these Haitian criminals on its territory.
06:28Venezuelans have every right to determine their historical course, and we are certain that it is impossible to interfere in the internal affairs of any country, which is one of the main points of the UN Charter.
06:42Furthermore, the Russian Foreign Minister made it clear that Ukraine is not willing to agree to a ceasefire.
06:49Regarding the first question about negotiations with Ukraine, I asked my staff to prepare a report on the progress of possible negotiations.
07:03On April 17, 2022, after the Ukrainians undermined the agreements they themselves had proposed, when the British suggested that they take action, Zelensky said that his side did not want negotiations.
07:22On October 1st of that same year, Zelensky said that Ukraine was ready to negotiate, but with another president.
07:29On March 22, 2023, the then foreign minister said that they knew long before that there was no point in talking to Putin, and our Security Council made the decision not to negotiate.
07:42For his part, the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rintal Bayana, Emmanuel Udraugo, reiterated his support for the Venezuelan people and denounced the coercive measures that the United States has taken against Venezuela.
07:55There is also the specific case of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
07:58There is also the specific case of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
08:00We would like to reiterate our unswerving support to the Venezuelan people, which for decades has suffered campaigns of isolation, illegal sanctions, and constant provocations.
08:10Faced with this flagrant interference in the sovereign affairs of this nation, and this economic attack which has disastrous humanitarian consequences,
08:23we would like to express our solidarity with this country, Venezuela.
08:27Also at the UN, the Prime Minister of St. Keith's and Nevis, Terence Drew, demanded an end to the blockade against Cuba and is removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
08:39The economic, commercial, and financial embargo against Cuba is a relic that continues to wound an entire people and weaken regional solidarity.
08:50Year after year, this assembly has reaffirmed that the embargo is gravely unjust.
08:57St. Keith's and Nevis joins the Caribbean community in calling for its end and for Cuba's removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, which isolates it from commerce and corporations.
09:11And before taking our first short break, let's go very quickly to Peru as the police is currently repressing the large protests that are taking place across the country.
09:24We are going very quickly to have those images live. We are seeing live the images right now on our screen.
09:30The police is currently repressing the large demonstrations that are taking place across Peru as citizens, especially the youth of the nation and the transport sector have come out en masse to protest against the policies of Polo Arte and against Congress for the retirement policies.
09:49They are also rejecting, as one of the main focus of these protests, the insecurity that has increased in the nation.
09:57So massive march protests of the young and transporters of Peru, which are denouncing the insecurity crisis, which are being validated and repressed as we are seeing the march of the security officers marching towards the protesters,
10:12the peaceful demonstrations that were taking place across the different cities in the nation.
10:18So as we were saying, different sectors of Peruvian society have been taking all these marches in different points across the country.
10:26The youth, especially in the lead, have called for this protest over the weekend, both this Saturday and Sunday, to protest against the government of Dino Abularte,
10:38the country, with the main focus of the increased criminality and the indifference of the state in the face of the demands of the people to find solutions and to act to bring down the criminal rates which have increased.
10:52This is something that has been denounced by the transport sector for a while now in Peru.
10:56We recall the transport sector has been on strike in several occasions in the past month due to the high criminality rates on the roads, which hindered their work.
11:06And now we are seeing more sectors of society coming together to denounce the inaction of the Peruvian government of the administration run by Dino Abularte.
11:16Right now the protests were being repressed heavily by the police as thousands still continue on the streets mobilized to make their demands heard for the government to act and decrease the criminal rates that the country is experiencing.

12:02Welcome back. In Venezuela, Interior Justice and Peace Minister Diosdau Caballero reported that the National Drill for Disasters and Armed Conflicts was successfully completed with a high citizen turnout in defense of peace.
12:19Caballero assured that the drill promoted by the government was aimed at strengthening the response capabilities of the Venezuelan people in the event of any natural or man-made disaster.
12:28The Interior Minister also explained that the drill, which took place in all 24 states of the country, once again showed the strength of the military, police, civic union for peace and life.
12:38The national drill stood out for its inclusive nature incorporating key institutions such as schools, high schools and the entire public health system together with civil protection personnel, firefighters, the Bolivar National Police, State Police and the Bolivar National Armed Forces.
12:57And the United States Department of State decided to revoke the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, citing reckless and incendiary actions related to the speech he gave to pro-Palestinian protesters outside the United Nations headquarters in New York.
13:12For the office in charge of U.S. foreign policy, the Colombian President allegedly urged U.S. soldiers to disobey President Trump's orders and incite violence.
13:22In this context, Petro was in fact urging them not to take part in a war of extermination, telling them not to aim their weapons at humanity and reminding them that they have the right to refuse.
13:32National organizations and leaders described the State Department's decision as authoritarian and repressive, expressing their support for the Colombian head of state.
13:42And upon landing in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, President Gustavo Petro responded to the U.S. State Department's decision to revoke his visa.
13:58He denounced Washington for breaking the United Nations immunity rules and said that the organization's headquarters could no longer remain in New York.
14:06The head of state responded to Marco Rubio's office and his supporters, stating that he is not interested in obtaining a visa.
14:13However, he warned that the only beneficiaries of a separation between Colombia and the United States would be the mafias.
14:19He also denounced Washington's failure to comply with international law, citing the denial of visas to Palestinian and Roman representatives for the same reasons as those given for withdrawing his own visa, namely opposition to genocide.
14:34And on Friday, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador once again denounced the brutal repression of protests against the measures promoted by the government of Daniel Novoa.
14:47Leaders of Esperanza and Imbabura province reported that the president ordered the deployment of military troops who used tear gas and other means, leaving several protesters injured.
14:57In cities such as Cuenca and Otavalo, a series of excesses by the security forces have also been reported.
15:04In this scenario, complaints of arbitrary detentions and illegal transfers are increasing.
15:09Amidst this crisis, the Constitutional Court ruled the national solidarity and public integrity laws promoted by Novoa unconstitutional,
15:17and human rights groups accused the president of criminalizing protests.
15:21Also in Ecuador, Interior Minister John Reinberg announced that nearly a hundred people were arrested due to a national strike summoned by the indigenous movement.
15:33In this regard, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities defended the protesters,
15:37accusing Daniel Novoa's government of applying violence and repression against those who criticized his policy.
15:43On the contrary, the government assures that the manifestations have grown to political aims and are seeking to destabilize the administration.
15:51In spite of repression, demonstrations continued closing roads in at least four provinces rejecting the readjustment order by the International Monetary Fund,
15:59which is running the people's economy down.
16:02In Argentina, protests are being held by the Feminist Collective to demand justice for triple femicide of three young women who were deceived, tortured and murdered.
16:16Under the slogans, no life is disposable and there are no good or bad victims, there are femicides.
16:22The feminist collective is marching in different regions of the country to demand justice after the assassination of Morena Berri, Brenda Loreley del Castillo and Lara Morena Gutierrez, aged 20 and 15,
16:34whose murder was broadcasted live on social media to a close group of people.
16:38Protesters emphasize that this type of violence mainly affects women in poverty.
16:43To date, security forces have arrested five people in Argentina and Peru for their alleged involvement in the crime.

17:35In Lebanon, a ceremony was held to commemorate the death of Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah former Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israeli forces in September 2024.
17:46Thousands of Nasrallah supporters attended the ceremony to renew their oath and loyalty to the Lebanese resistance.
17:53Present also were prominent religious and political figures to pay tribute to the Lebanese leader.
17:58Participants highlighted the continuity of his legacy in the face of the injustice and arrogance displayed by the West in the region.
18:06In Cuba, the Meteorological Institute warned of a high probability of rains and thunderstorms this weekend that will mainly affect the eastern half of the archipelago.
18:11In Cuba, the Meteorological Institute warned of a high probability of rains and thunderstorms this weekend that will mainly affect the eastern half of the archipelago.

18:57The most intense rains are expected to be raised during the afternoon of Saturday and to extend during the night.
19:03According to the China Earthquake Network Center, on Saturday a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Longsheet County in Gansu Province.
19:22Although damage to infrastructure in the area was reported, no reports of casualties have been received so far.
19:28In response to the disaster, rescue and firefighting teams from Gansu were deployed with approximately 280 dispatch personnel, 42 fire trucks and more than 2,000 sets of equipment from Dingxi, Lansu and Tianzui.
19:43Official data shows that the area is one of the most seismically active in the country with 30 earthquakes registered within a 200-kilometer radius over the last five years.
20:04Again, the Supreme Court confirms that there will be a referendum after verifying the results of the consultation in which almost 90% of citizens voted in favor of approving a new constitution.
20:17In this context, some opposition parties call for a boycott of the process, claiming that the current president of the military junta, Colonel Mamadi Dumbuya, intends to take advantage of this change to expand his power.
20:30For this reason, they filed a motion with the court to another referendum, which was ultimately denied.
20:37It was precisely this court that confirmed that 89.3% of citizens who participated in the Plespe site support a new constitutional text, compared to the 10.62% who voted against it.
20:49Colonel Dumbuya has not yet confirmed whether he will run for a new term in front of the board.
20:54Denmark authorities on Saturday denounced the flying of drones over its top military base.
21:09The country is facing several incursions on its military facilities, including the biggest and most important base.
21:15The authorities have confirmed the night flight of unmanned vehicles over Karup Base.
21:20In the sense, the police and the army are investigating these incidents that began to affect the operation of Copenhagen Airport, in the capital of the country.
21:29They also report that so far the origin of the device is still unknown, and none has been intercepted.
21:35In addition, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is on alert stage.
21:47Meanwhile, in Spain, trade unions rallied in Madrid against Isabel DĂaz Ayuso's neoliberal policies, and to demand improvements in public education.
21:56The protest over education comes amid a tense political climate marked by a recent controversy over the conflict in Gaza.
22:03The president of the Madrid Autonomous Community, Isabel DĂaz Ayuso, banned this place of support for Palestine in schools,
22:10a measure that has been met with rejection and disobedience in 89 schools.
22:15Trade unions and protesters have also expressed their rejection of various policies, including cuts in public education funding,
22:22plus accusations of privatization through the expansion of educational agreements and increased school segregation.
22:29These demonstrations are part of the so-called Green Tide, a protest movement in defense of public education in the region.
