00:00Here at Lotto Park where Newcastle United have just picked up their biggest ever Champions League win,
00:08first Champions League away win since 2003, 4-0 against Union San Gilroise tonight.
00:16And all in all a very comfortable evening just as I make my way down to Eddie Howe's press conference after the game.
00:23We'll speak to the Newcastle United manager after, look, it was a very straightforward win, a very routine win,
00:28a potential banana skin, you could have called it, before the game against the Belgian champions.
00:32But ultimately a historic night for Newcastle United, it gets their Champions League campaign up and running.
00:38And it was all thanks to the efforts of, well, all players, but Anthony Gordon, I thought,
00:45really put in a statement performance, three goals for him in the Champions League already this season,
00:49OK, two penalties, Nick Valdemar credited with the opening goal, Newcastle's first away goal this season.
00:56Sandro Tinali shot, I said deflected in off Nick Valdemar, but looking at the replays,
01:02it actually looks like a bit of a clever flick in from the German forward who now has three goals
01:08in as many starts for the club, so fair play to him.
01:14And, yeah, I say three goals in as many starts, three goals in four starts, I should say.
01:19Get that fact right.
01:21But, yeah, Newcastle, I think, never looked really under any threat of not getting a convincing win from this game.
01:31Like I say, Sandro Tinali was a standout, Nick Valdemar, of course, impressing with a goal.
01:37And I think after he got his goal, once it was awarded to him anyway,
01:41it really sort of grew in confidence and got players involved.
01:44His passing range is excellent, the way he links play up and things like that.
01:48So, yeah, I was really, really impressed with him.
01:51Anthony Ylanga, well involved.
01:52I think not everything came off Anthony Ylanga, but played a role in the opening goal
01:57and then won the penalty for Anthony Gordon's first goal, put Newcastle 2-0 up at half-time.
02:02I mean, it was never really in doubt after that second half relatively comfortable.
02:07Although Nick Pope, I'd say he probably had more saves to make than his opposite number.
02:12He had to stay alert in the second half, I'd say.
02:17Union SG had a number of shots from distance that opened Newcastle up one time,
02:22but that went wide of the left-hand post after Dan Byrne was beaten down his side.
02:27But, yeah, it was a decent all-round.
02:33I say decent, decent is such an understatement.
02:35It was a very good all-round evening for Newcastle United.
02:37Avoided disaster in terms of a defeat and really routine in the end, really straightforward.
02:44And he's got a lot of goals as well.
02:48So, yeah, in the second half, Anthony Gordon makes it 3-0 from the penalty spot.
02:53And then Harvey Barnes comes on.
02:54The two substitutes link up with Will Isula playing in Harvey Barnes
03:01to then make it 4-0, wrap up the points.
03:04Sabruton only had a chance to make it 5-0 later on.
03:06A very good save from the goalkeeper just as Newcastle are.
03:10Some of the subs warming down behind me there.
03:12So, yeah, all in all, very good evening for Newcastle United.
03:17And I'll head down now and speak to Eddie Howe
03:21and see what he has to say on a very good win for his side.
03:25And you can see my player ratings, other than the Shields Gazette,
03:28like I say, Nick Volkermort, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tenoly.
03:31And, actually, I forgot to mention a player who Newcastle fans were chanting all at the end there.
03:37A player who has really sort of gone under the radar
03:39is a really, really good summer signing for Newcastle.
03:43And that's Malik Chow, again, showing his class tonight.
03:45I think it's getting to the point where Newcastle have a lot of options.
03:48Fabian Scheer now back at centre-back.
03:51Jamal Lascelles comes back in contention in the Premier League.
03:54Of course, Dan Burns, Sven Botman.
03:55Malik Chow is undroppable at the moment.
03:57He was brilliant again tonight and showed his class.
04:00Moved out the right-back once Fabian Scheer came on for the closing stages.
04:03And, yeah, really, really good from him.
04:06So I've enjoyed his performance.
04:08And you can see my Shields Gazette player ratings over on ShieldsGazette.com
04:12as well as all the reaction I'm going to get now from Eddie Howe
04:15heading over to the press conference room just now.
04:20So head over to ShieldsGazette.com for all that.
04:23I've read Dom Scher here at Laval Park.
04:26And you can follow all our coverage here in Brussels,
04:29like I say, sorry, over on the Shields Gazette website.
04:33Cheers.
