00:00the organization in fact there has gone back to green hasn't it before green again
00:07slow zone has been withdrawn also part of the LMP3 landscape Gilles Decayne taking on what was
00:13previously the Norma program and is now new Decayne D08 as you can see Gilles in the wheelchair there
00:21to the right hand side and also an only driver early days of GT3
00:30hustled no less than a Dodge Viper with some success controls in that car
00:40the fastest lap of its race for the race leader pushing on now
00:44this Andre Pierre Greedy and on the same lap Earl Bamber obviously with the track back to green
00:51finish welcome to the pits from seventh I think the two car is going to have a five second penalty
01:01added to its next pit stop as well so trying to carry on with that
01:07so opposing
01:18that's uh when you uh can't visit the table
01:21this is the 85 car still leading the race in gtm
01:51and uh could it be another class win for female drivers here at this event
01:58seeing that side at the bottom SebastiΓ‘n GuΓ©mi at lap deleted so that's definitely number five no
02:04yeah yeah if if if it's not uh if it's not six that's five we may see uh we may see a warning flag
02:14look after this isn't it the last thing you want is a drive-through penalty at this stage
02:20that could be the defining moment
02:24this is the race leader in the middle of those three cars the 34 behind Edex Sport
02:30the Edex Sport 48 car the all blue livery is running fifth and the Panis racing car
02:37fourth that is a battle for fourth place Panis and Edex with the race lead with Adam P2 between them
02:43to support those cars he pushed by a minute ago just on the exit of Porsche cars so he's got in
02:51between so obviously now he's lining up we know the 34 car's got great straight line speed so good
02:58chance he'll tow by now looks like he was going to do that Fabio Sheriff by the way if you didn't
03:02join us earlier this morning um injured foot after being run over we believe his foot by the Corvette
03:09uh not sure whether or not there's a break who is that that is Fabio Sheriff's leading Adam P2 race
03:16but certainly in some pain uh with one of his feet but it's not stopping him he's currently a minute and
03:2338 seconds clear of the chasing WRT 41 car this is an epic run from inter-europort competition
03:34uh but uh the battle he was in between there is for fourth in class Panis racing the hands of
03:39Timo Klanderhill from the Netherlands and that's her Germany two very talented young men I suppose if
03:48it was your left foot you could not left foot break and just kind of I think that's it the old-fashioned
03:52heel toe kind of thing I'm stopping him he's he's gone by and he's pulling away here
03:58this I mean frankly one of the all-time great Adam P2 runs in this modern era we've seen some
04:06faultless runs from the acknowledged super teams from Jota from WRT from United Autosports here at Le Mans
04:13but you know this is a team that's been bubbling under a little it's been challenging there
04:18for podium positions throughout the season in the Fi World Endurance Championship but this is form we've
04:24not seen from them before we've seen some great stints from a number of drivers who have driven for
04:30the Polish flag team but Fabio Scherer just seems to find more and more and more
04:37came into LMP2 with United Autosports a few seasons ago seems to be in a happy place here
04:44we're looking at here this is a replay of his move
04:46and that's the uh the large getting by yeah the 48 going by 65 yeah that is
04:55that's here his first season of LMP2 racing as a full season driver
05:02um big success with DQR engineering principally in LMP3 he's a rapid young man
05:10no answer noticing from the helicopter shot no one has gone home why would you
05:18quick quick lap times peter are coming all of a sudden the last lap
05:23Colin is lighting up blue that's quickest laps in the race so far
05:26wow yeah but of teams 328 for Semperway meet 328-8 328-7 for El Bamba that's the second
05:34consecutive fastest lap of the race for that car 329-7 for Paul de Resto in the Peugeot
05:39330 for Esteban Gutierrez in the 708 uh Glickenhaus and then we get into Fabio Scherer with the 337-5
05:47uh the fastest lap for Inter Europol which by the way is nowhere near as quick as the fastest lap for
05:53the team WRT cars with consistency that's winning the day there here though is the leading car in GTM
06:00Sarah Bovic climbing aboard as out of the number 85
06:06Porsche climbs for a hell fry and we saw that the number 25 Aston Martin went by to take over the lead
06:14Charlie Eastwood behind the wheel of that car
06:16see how far back Ben Keating is he was only probably about 30 seconds behind so he may come
06:24by as well as the driver change is done as soon as the fueling is done it looks like that car
06:32will get some new there goes uh Ben Keating the aforementioned uh Corvette driver now into second
06:38place that puts the Iron Dames back to third now they've got plenty of time they will get out of
06:46the pits in front of PJ Hyatt and the Project 1AO Porsche so this is going to move them back to third
06:54position routine pit stop four new Michelin tires new driver uh Sarah Bovee as Graham rightfully pointed
07:02out back into the fray with her against her uh her arch nemesis in in a good way Ben Keating these two
07:11have had some outstanding qualifying battles throughout the season in the world endurance championship
07:19and that's that's the great thing about the the new qualifying format it's uh it's proven to be is just
07:25very exciting it's a it's an extra day of great racing now absolutely we have in the world endurance
07:32championship just an update from uh the fiwc's we did i think at rachel cavers who's been working hard
07:39through this race and she updates us with the condition of fabio sharer says not too bad is uh
07:46feels it when he's not racing more than when he's in the car don't think we'll do that for you won't it
07:50pushing through still left foot breaking he will be fine but i mean you and i and certainly you
07:56peterton wreck will know that's going to hurt later today and certainly tomorrow yes absolutely yeah
08:03i mean uh the adrenaline does get you through he's hopping out of the car yeah you can't even put any
08:12weight on it yeah he's he's to the point where when they do the driver changes he uh one hops yeah
08:18yeah so into the pits for some new painkillers and back out again three cars and 327s in that top
08:26three till bamba with another quick lap in the caddy this time alessandro pierre greedy responds to
08:31the attack from several amy it's a 327.890 that is a second quicker than the fastest lap from the total
08:42there is pj hyatt in the project one ao porsche rexie
08:48with the big teeth and the short arms
08:55he could be the king
09:00there is your lmp2 leader
09:06fabio scherer
09:10looks like he's going to stay in the car fuel only got the thumbs up from the uh
09:15goodyear technician see if they uh decide to stay with these
09:25skins or if they'll put some new tires on the 34 car um if my numbers are correct i think sarah bovi's
09:34got a stint and a half still to do in this car as their bronze rider she's a good bronze but she will
09:40be ceding time to drivers around her just look and see whether they can see where pj hyatt is in this order
09:46uh pj is about where he needs to be so it's five minutes and 57 seconds at the six hours he needs
09:54to do so that bodes well in this battle between those two porsches how about amidal hearty if
10:00bove doesn't understand here then she'll be good uh but she will lose time to the golden the uh and the
10:07silver drivers and the other cars uh amidal hearty meanwhile needs about another 40 minutes not quite
10:13a full stint uh for the amani driver that's now our new leader john eastwood pushing on ben keating
10:23uh he too is about a minute away from his six hours
10:26uh and here is the often mentioned sound of the nascar camaro jensen button behind the wheel of this
10:40car looks again right out of the casting give me an english formula with a big smile and there you have
10:49it he has just had a ball driving this car we had john dunan in around 11 o'clock
10:55and and the whole team spa is just over the moon just absolutely over the moon
11:03so i think mission accomplished there is there is and that's that's right
11:11but um there is coach jordan sailor flexing yeah and this has been to see uh chad knouse and some of the
11:20other people who are such veterans putting their foot in the water of this type of racing people
11:27with you know championship pedigrees go ahead who know the sport inside and out
11:33is just absolutely fantastic and to see them have this modicum of success is just outstanding 34th
11:41overall that's not quite as high as i thought they would finish i i figured they would uh they
11:47would get into the 20s for sure maybe even crack the top 20. but there's still time yeah 11 minutes
11:54on pit lane so there's clearly been a some form of issue gloriously filthy that car i have zero doubt
12:01that whatever happens with the camaro zl1 after this race it will be a car that hendrix motorsports and
12:10jim france for that matter will treasure forever truly historic 75 years of nascar 75 years
12:19um of stock car racing in the united states and they've come here all guns blazing loving every
12:27moment of it to explain why by the way jordan taylor is in the garage he's here as their reserve
12:33driver and also as driver coach lots of experience here jordan particularly in gt cars and uh with the
12:41full respect of the nascar family hendrick motorsports and all three drivers he's been a key part of the
12:48test procedure here does look odd seeing that car but he handles well peter it's not bad isn't it
12:55uh to put in the lap times it's been doing it's been quicker than all of the gt cars
13:05so it's not just quick in a straight line it can go around corners as well
13:09well i hope this encourages everybody around the the organization not just of this race but other races
13:14too to just take a look in the books see what else can be done along these lines i just think it
13:21encourages more people to be enthusiastic in more depth it's great to have people are really enthused
13:27about a battle for the overall lead in a great race like this but it's better still when you've got
13:32all the story lines to write i know one of the things that john didn't was telling us last night
13:37is the thing that has blown them away more than anything else aside from the welcome here which i
13:42think they expected but have still exceeded their expectations it's the it's the level of media
13:48interest in that program welcome back this morning to martin haven
13:53morning everybody uh good morning again everybody good afternoon again good evening again
13:58um little tweet two minutes ago from nascar garage 56 accounts nascar g56
14:032 000 miles with 230 laps the circuit de la sarte under our belt the next gen
14:08g56 has blown past the 2 000 mile mark or 3 218 kilometers whatever those are
14:15that's almost three and a half coca-cola 600s what i like is the respect with humor yeah
14:25and i think that's absolutely mutual i don't think there's anybody in the pit lane that goes well
14:29they're taking the garage it could be used by a proper racing car and there's as we said to john
14:34dude in the middle of last night there's at least 300 000 big smiles every time that car goes around
14:39this track and that's just here there is nothing bad whatsoever about that effort trolley's but by
14:44the way from second place in uh as a gtm on pit lane that puts uh cycles ben keating back through to
14:51the lead might have better get my zumba class going online i'm gonna just zoom that in them in the back
14:57of the uh while we're watching earl bamber in the caddy um so the story of the 51 ferrari which has
15:03retaken lead after briefly losing it in pit stops that was a power cycle for the car it wouldn't
15:08fire so it had to do the control auto lead to be turned trying trying turning off and on again so
15:13that's exactly what they did um it seems to be perfectly okay the slight worry obviously is
15:19every time you turn it off if it doesn't fire up again you can lose 10 or 15 but of course once
15:25you've done it once it doesn't bite you quite so badly the next time peter you you go ah okay it's
15:30that again right we will do that until 30 seconds recovery will be quicker in fact while the change
15:35is going while the uh power change is happening and everything it could be maybe functioning except
15:42you can't fire it until all the men are behind the line so you can't try to fire it until all the
15:47men are behind the line so there is yeah you can switch the ignition i think quite a lot of time
15:51they probably leave the ignition on just so there's radio comps and everything else um yeah once you
15:57once something's caught you out you think about the jota car a couple of years ago that ended up
16:00winning here which was in second place for most of the morning and it said on board airjacks failed
16:06so basically got one of those inflatable backs you used to sort of jack up vehicles on soft ground
16:12and they were having to pump it up at one end in a pit stop and then the other end in the different
16:15pit stop to swap tires a pair at a time front to back or side to side um it had a misfire as well and
16:22they still managed to flog it to get it to finish which in the end on the last lap turned about turned
16:28out to be to win the race so these things will take a lot of abuse what they don't like is um sharp
16:36stops using the scenery and that's been there's been a lot of that going in or in good weather as
16:42well as in that well looking down that second page over there we're we've got a lot of hours
16:48beside cars so yeah a lot of retirements well there are 20 or have been already 20 retirements
16:55out of 62 cars that's the highest in quite a number of years in terms of retiring okay so box this lap
17:01box this lap paper confirm box this lap driver change to brendan so hardly about to take the wheel of
17:09the second place car it is 8.4 seconds the gap we have four hours and 42 minutes still remaining and it
17:17has changed the balance of power between these two cars before when hartley has come in he's
17:24immediately been very quick now the last time that happened was day to night and i wasn't quite sure
17:31how the dialogue worked there because hartley was very quick initially and then gradually got reeled
17:37back in and i wonder whether they've gone with a softer tire on the toyota to give them that initial
17:42edge as you can see from the energy graphic the number three cadillac is the outlier there
17:56it's only recently stopped the others six percent seven percent five percent they're all coming in this
18:01lap so your top six barring one car with four hours to go are on the same lap of pit window never mind
18:10or an approximate equivalent strategy it's really easy isn't it to get sucked into the
18:17um the mindset that we're close to the end of this race it's almost five hours still to go but what we
18:23are into now is a phase of the race where the leading two cars are going to have to hit a problem for
18:30cadillac to win it well that's entirely possible or safety car because that brings them onto the tail of the
18:39pair and that is also equally possible we've had safety cars predominantly because of incidents in
18:46weather but not exclusively so far in the race i have to say this is as frantic a lead battle sprint
18:55as i can remember in quite some time and we're we're back to audi versus porsche versus toyota p1 hybrids
19:03you know absolute full combat and that was three teams yeah 2011 2015 recently is the toyota's
19:12controlling the race and it's going to be one or the other that wins and they're obviously not going
19:17to attack the same way as toyota will attack ferrari now yeah it's a better pit stop this time it's an
19:23undelayed pit stop one minute and 16 seconds on pit uh the pit lane for the leading ferrari
19:30that must be a full service stop and here comes the towta just one towta left in this race behind
19:37the ferrari there coming out was the third place car in lmp2 the number 30 duquesne car so that has uh well
19:44that was coming into the pits in fact that's dropped out of the top three lmp2 into europold
19:48a 34 car green and yellow wrt the 41 car still in second louis de la tras not able to overhaul
19:55fabio scherer but scherer must be at the end of some epic stint 65 panis keaman van der helm again
20:03he's been in that car a long while keeping that car up towards the sharp end of the field and in gt pro
20:10from we're nowhere we might as well pack up and go home territory corvette racing's ben keating leads
20:17from arch rival sarah bovy in the pink iron dames porsche mike dynan for ort by tf lies in third ahead
20:25of thomas floor that 54 ferrari relentlessly right in the podium hunt there from start to finish and then
20:32gunnar janet in rexie the project one ao porsche has dropped down to fifth with a pit stop he's just
20:38made before i forget this um uh a word for thomas fleur we've not mentioned him very much in this
20:44race but his level this year has been raised absolutely dramatically i don't know what he's
20:51what he's been having his breakfast cereal but it's working well maybe he's had time yes and that's so
20:56much of this with these drivers is finding the time to actually focus on their driving
21:01okay just for info previous lap we had a track limit in tete rouge that's the fourth one okay
21:11and the significance of that peter is if you get five then you are on the way into the pit lane for a
21:18penalty so five is the warning flag isn't it six is the penalty six yeah you get five warnings in the entire
21:2524 hours so basically in eight hours of absolutely foot welded to the floor racing yeah you can
21:32transgress five times and no more so we've seen no penalties so far from any driver yet
21:40it does mean though when we get into let's say with four hours and 37 minutes to go let's take
21:45the four off the beginning of that it's entirely conceivable that with 37 minutes to go and maybe the
21:51prospect of one little fuel splash before the end we will still have a four second gap between our
21:57leaders whoever they might be that's entirely possible i'm not counting out one of the tightest
22:03finishes ever in history it's 19 seconds the gap at the moment that is significantly less than a drive
22:10through would take yeah and that's why that's important because the first penalty would be a drive
22:15through penalty carry on doing it it would be a try it would be a short stop it would stop and go yeah
22:21and then it starts to get five seconds then ten seconds so it can't just be frenetic pace at any
22:27cost that's what that room is there for it's about keeping it fair it's about making sure that we're
22:32all racing the same racetrack and not uh an alternative line and peter taking the shortest distance means the
22:41shortest distance but within the white lines absolutely we were talking jim and i about the
22:48drivers basically pushing the envelope as far as possible but sometimes you overstep and pick up
22:54uh the potential now to pick up a penalty for running wide is it's just getting harder and harder
23:00and actually the more severe penalties are unlikely to come from the stewards if you're running out wide
23:05because there have been so many incidents there's so much debris there's so much gravel so many sharp
23:09little bits of carbon around but actually running out beyond the track limits is just looking for a sea of
23:16comedy tax to punchy attires isn't it yeah and and you know exit to indianapolis we've seen
23:24at least three of the hyper cars in the wall there yep 38 and both the clicking house cars all spat out of
23:34that's a growing ditch behind the uh the curb with drivers who have all got plenty of ability these
23:41aren't bumblers these aren't bumblers these are not you know rank amateurs these are highly professional
23:47drivers but as as excuse me as anse was explaining earlier it's a it's a it's a ramp with a vertical
23:55drop at the end of it and if you go off the vertical drop you can't ease the tire back on
24:00you're as likely to puncture the tire if you try and wrench it back on as you are to get spat out with
24:04gravel trap so there is probably a need i think for that to be either rebuilt as a much more level
24:11curb or built with an upslope and then a downslope into the gravel trap from which you can hopefully
24:17nurse your car it's so easy i mean i mean it's a it's a ridiculous comparison but it bears the
24:2330 seconds it will tell to take the story on the way back to the airport port him out
24:28the wc race comes down the hill from the hotel a large commercial vehicle from the other way down a a
24:35narrow country lane went slightly off the road to allow this to happen and the way in which i rejoined
24:42the surface the sharp edge of the uh the tarmac ripped the side out the tire from the inside
24:48tires are built to take a phenomenal amount of punishment the guys initially were saying the left
24:53rear in spa from the pit lane is taking 1500 kilos of downforce from the pit lane and they were saying
25:03and that's the issue there with a cold tire it's not up to temperature it's too stiff the pressure is
25:11too low at a normal sort of setting that would use with a heated tire and so that's why they were having
25:16to ramp up the base pressure so you go out on a cold tire that's also overinflated
25:22quote so that makes the the warm-up even harder uh way of looking this is 20.7 seconds down the gap
25:31between peer greedy and brendan hartley looks to me at this phase of the race gentlemen that
25:37i've already got the pace it's now about just trying to edge away where you've got the pace with no error
25:45whatsoever well i think peter the way they've gone about this as if they've been doing it all their
25:51lives and to a degree they all have but not this yeah not this in hypercar not trying to win them on
25:57outright a lot of the air of course the team have got that experience from their gt program
26:02a lot of them have got winning trying to win overall experience from formula one but this is the first time
26:08they've done this and it's the first time they've brought the car here but they're just running a
26:12natural race i mean they just look so relaxed in the way they're doing everything the same
26:18professional manner of going about it that toyota have exemplified over the years because they've been
26:22doing it for years and i'm just so impressed with ferrari absolutely over stressing or overthinking or
26:30second guessing anything they're just making the right calls at the right time and driving hard and
26:35far and staying cool and we saw that with the the full reset with the car they lost one minute but there
26:40was no big panic they just went about their business they got back on track
26:45um pierre giddy hunted down the toyota got by him back into the lead yeah ben keith you have just a
26:54little moment there where the car was not quite going to make it around the dunlop curb
27:00i don't know she came into this so oopsie nikki katberg his team all right it's nico veroni his team
27:08i think veroni is due to get in and here is the arch rival the second placed iron dames porsche
27:14sarbovi ben keating and sarbovi have produced so many entertaining qualifying battles in
27:20qualifying in the regular world endurance championship like in hyperpol here the
27:25bronze rated drivers have to qualify and keating and bovi have just been going hard at it
27:36then at the end of a i'm going to have to check triple possibly quad stint literally just looking
27:42right now and the team was saying this will be the end of his minimum drive time requirement so
27:47that will bring him uh can bring him to the end of his driving six hours 16 minutes as we uh count uh
27:54for ben keating what about sarah bovi as well we've got a way to go yeah we've seen them regularly cycle
28:01through between her michelle gatting and rahel frey and the iron dames keeping the pressure on at that
28:07corvette so it is remember it's the bronze and silver drivers that need to complete six hours both
28:15in gtm and in lmp2 i'm sorry with her back to us there see the cap at the far end andrea puccini
28:23one of the puccini brothers that uh runs the iron links operation uh it is an hour and eight minutes that
28:30sarah bovi has got to do okay now it's it's no slur on sarah's ability she's been stellar
28:38at a defined bronze level but she has got time where she's going to be measured against not ben keating
28:44but silver and gold and that and a platinum rack drivers to the end of this race and actually part of
28:50the way that they've got the corvette back in has been to have some of their have their pro drives
28:55nikki casper nick moroni driving through the night same with sarah bovi although actually the iron
29:00dames have rotated through in in regular rotation sarah's not been sort of parked overnight or when
29:06it was wet they have all stepped up and all done their their stint in time didn't see at any stage where
29:14they sort of changed the rotation it's all been uh as it was expected from the start also uh 25 minutes
29:21or 24 minutes still needs to be done by nikka veroni looks like he's about to get aboard the car
29:25yep he's been a very popular addition to this crew ever smiling tall young argentinian driver
29:34doesn't think he's pretty work as well well the new era of uh gt racing here at le mans and the lm gt3 class
29:41i think a teamwork-minded young fast at the moment silver-ranked driver is going to be no small thing and
29:50whether or not he retains his silver ranking goes to gold i think you're going to find that that young
29:55man is with corvette for quite a long time
30:04that is the lead battle in gte am third is the ort by tf aston martin the orange aston martin for those
30:12of you watching in technicolor that's uh michael dine and garden janet in the green t-rex delivery
30:18project one porsche is fourth uh fifth fourth uh fifth is gr racing's ricardo perra that's the car
30:25that's black with uh orange highlights on one side and orange and blue golf colors on the other side
30:31and in sixth position and also in the pit lane or has just been through the pit lane is the silver af
30:36course a ferrari car number 54 navide rigon heading out on track staying in that car so driver change
30:44as ben keating completes his minimum driver time looks like sarah bovi will stay out on track for
30:50another lap or two right behind her is the car guy kessel racing ferrari that's daniel serra he's not
30:56passing her for position he is a lap behind the brazilian pro there is the car in third place though that
31:03orange aston martin and that gap is coming down yep ndames lead the race or t by tf have led the
31:11race corvette racing have led the race project one ao that's led the race 54 that's led the race that's
31:18led the race as well kessel they've led the race they absolutely have northwest amr i don't remember
31:24i don't think they have they had an early problem if you remember with the bonnet latch and i don't think
31:28the 911 yeah that they had two problems they made contact with somebody popped the bonnet up they
31:33fixed it in the pit stop and it then popped up again so then they properly fixed it i assume
31:38they used a larger hammer the next time around porsche by the way back into the carriage looking
31:46less and less like it's going to be a great afternoon for this squad this is the car
31:51earlier this morning involved in a battle for that's andre lotter getting out of the car so this is not
31:56going to be quick work no andre lotter having to miss the formula e race in jakarta or opting to miss
32:02the formula e race in jakarta there's uh about nine drivers from formula e who did race in jakarta on
32:09sunday and then came back from indonesia for qualifying and practice kevin estra it was that
32:18had the problem with the car in spirited pursuits of a potential podium position chasing down
32:25the cadillac so this has not been a change for the lead again to reiterate the car guy ferrari which is
32:32absolutely flying at the moment daniel serra that yellow car has just unlapped itself from the class
32:38leader that's the iron dames ferrari there's the second place car and the corvette bite into that pit
32:44stop drops about half a minute behind into third place but again these cars all slightly out of sequence
32:51with each other and so peter the teams on the pit wall will know absolutely they won't care what the
32:57hyper cars are doing they won't care what the lmp2s are doing which we're trying to follow as well
33:01they will just be watching their peers their class rivals that's what the focus is winning what you can
33:08win never mind what everybody else is doing well it's essentially three three races taking place in
33:13the one race and you know what it's great to be the overall winner you you know you really want to
33:20be that you only be in the hyper car but the lmp2 and the gt they're as valid winners as the top class
33:28you know the the fights are just as big the uh competition's just as strong and it's it's great to
33:35see i mean we're we're spoiled that we've got three races going on here we can watch which have none of them
33:41refused to uh you know they just refused to stop being exciting they are all really really tight
33:48close races and again you know if you're on the podium in gtem or lmp2 or hypercar you're going to
33:55stand up on the one of the most famous podiums in any sport anywhere in front of 300 000 people
34:03and receive one of the world's most famous trophies that i don't care what you're driving that is a
34:09reward for a year and more of hard work that's got you to this point daniel serra by the way uh
34:15can i think do the majority of this race from here uh takeshi kimura has now completed his uh
34:19required six hours minimum driving time it's got hothaker is well over his required time there
34:25is the trophy yeah fabulous centennial trophy it's been around the world uh this but still can't find its
34:32babies so daniel serra's in with because he's not going to go and do four hours and 24 minutes so he
34:39can't so who else is he he's got hothaker i suspect will uh have a stint in the middle of this one i
34:45think we're going to see daniel in for a while likely he's got huffaker in maybe a couple of hours
34:50time and probably daniel back in for the finish if there's anything to be gained he can do no more
34:55than four in any six hours uh in which case he'll do four hours yeah oh oh and that's trouble for the
35:02nine nine one one that's michael fassbender that's michael fassbender oh no that's that's a lot of
35:10tire wreckage now he's gone in backwards again into the porsche curves wow michael fassbender coming
35:17towards the end of his driving stint here uh he had 18 minutes left to complete his six hours
35:26well he's going to have to go back out again then because that's not going to be completed
35:34back again and that's a big hit that's a big hit yeah well it's climbed the tire barrier
35:40it's still driving and that's
35:42it's just one of those classic lemon accidents that it's one of those places where you'll see
35:49it time and time again he's trying to keep the car within those white lines uh but in that instance he
35:55should have just opened the wheel and run the car wide to took the the penalty that was coming his way
36:01for going over the white line but now he's gonna have to spend some time in the pits to get that fixed
36:08that car coming in from ninth position in the hands of michael fassbender the irish german
36:15oscar domani this is the end of a a five-year program it is to come to to to bring his driving
36:22level up to the level where he can compete in le mans 24 hours he's raced in Porsche carrera super cup
36:29he's raced in other gt programs he's raced here in road to le mans there's a few guys on the podium
36:37just having a video yeah it is media and pr guys there i would suggest to you that's probably this
36:43year's voting committee for this year's voting committee for the media award
36:49let's hear from we put the car inside the garage
36:57apologies for obviously the excitable language and exactly as you said peter he was just trying to
37:05tighten the line when he realized he was going to run out wide it's going to take a bit of a cleanup
37:12as well as a rebuild of the tire barrier there's gonna be a longish slow zone because all those
37:16tire stacks need to be replaced and probably re-belted back in as well because that's all part of the
37:22safety uh on the corner that is homologated a little bit of arm waving going on concerned about
37:29that corner is that end of game arm waving yes body language in the back of the garage is not at
37:36all encouraging louise beckett is down in the pit lane louise or is that step i think it's in here
37:48okay you are at the garage step what do you know well let me tell you this car does not look good at
37:54all and the marshals are frantically running around the mechanics should i say are frantically running
37:59around for the bits and pieces that they need in reality there could be a front and back change to
38:05the car but there is just too much damage to that right side of the chassis that just will not be able
38:10to be fixed and replaced so it could be that this is the end of that race all right well if you can
38:15hang around there and try and get word from the team thank you for that we'll see if we can get a
38:20a final uh word on that but again even with four hours to go there's a lot of time to fix the car
38:27it depends how much of it is actually fixable just watching uh people of rex uh facial expression with
38:34the hit that was the grimace that was a big hit yeah it was a big hit and i was looking at the marshals
38:39they were very close behind the wall as well so thankfully everything held up and um no no um parts of
38:46the car went over the wall so uh i'm hoping that's not the end for michael fassbender here as a well
38:56worldwide celebrity often when you put your head above the parapets and do something different do
39:02something with passion a lot of people out there that choose to criticize and to mock but i can tell
39:09you from multiple multiple experiences of watching him apply his chosen trade here but uh he's done
39:20it both with passion and with absolute commitment i know it's very easy to stand at the sidelines and
39:26go okay well he's not good enough to do that he is good enough to do that much much better drivers
39:32than him have made the same if not bigger errors yeah i was going to say the same thing we've seen
39:38some very very professional drivers make errors of that magnitude and you know it can happen to
39:44anyone he'll be super frustrated because last year the car got away from under braking down to the first
39:50chicane ended up in the barriers and now again you know and this is all has to get married everyone's
39:57going oh he's been doing it for five years well you can probably count the number of races he's done
40:02on his fingers and toes in almost in total whereas anybody else of his age or of or of any age when
40:11they get to this level will have been racing full time for at least a decade probably more like 15 years
40:19if they're in their early 20s and he does not have all of that instinct yet he's good he's quick he's
40:27competent he really addresses himself to the racing but you know all of those years of having crashes
40:35and learning how to avoid them then that takes time to build up he's doing it all in public that's
40:41that's over it is over i'm afraid that is the end of the road for michael fastbender and the rest of
40:47the crew of buying one one martin rump in the cap there in the background shaking hands with the
40:51boys richie leets as well that's uh he'll take his time just to gather his thoughts but i'm sure we
40:57will hear from michael i hope he's okay that we'll have rattle his cage in a little bit
41:01think about this way just go think about doing something completely different you've never done
41:06before at a level you've never done it before musical instrument is a good example of this go and
41:11learn a musical instrument how long does it take you before you don't make an error and you're a concert
41:16pianist or a concert violinist and and that's the level we're looking at it's not being able to play
41:21along with your local you know a string ensemble or something this is absolutely virtuoso performance
41:29of the at the highest level there is nothing more demanding than this in terms of driving sports cars
41:36and porsche is still you know these are not easy things to conduct quick yeah you hate to see it
41:43for any driver and the clara publicity there's clearly going to be an opportunity to see that from the
41:50inside track that is part of the deal that's been done it's to open the doors in the same way that we've
41:56got the wc full access there is michael well look it's part of what they do as actors they expose
42:02themselves they leave themselves open to criticism rid and ridicule by becoming something that they're
42:10not now this is a whole different level of becoming something that you never were before and he has
42:16applied himself with just the same you know exposure and vulnerability and i always admire anybody i mean
42:25all the bronze rated drivers in gtm class the gentlemen drivers who are racing and ladies drivers who are
42:30racing in you know on a non-professional basis in anything around the world they're doing it because
42:36they are passionate not because they wanted to be formula one world champion or because they wanted to
42:41win them on when they were kids they're doing it because they've predominantly discovered it later when
42:46they've got an opportunity to do so and and it just you know that yes it's fun yes it's exciting yes it's
42:52demanding and thrilling and adrenaline pumping and everything else i think it's hard well i mean i'll say
42:59there's this about this and the final word on it before i'm sure we will hear from michael i'm sure
43:03he will come out and talk to steph um but he's got the same passion we've got yep and that's the beauty
43:12of this form of the sport it's not the same for every level of elite sport with all the barriers between
43:17us and the people we'd like to talk to there's no difference between michael and the guys at the absolute
43:22elite level i always tell young journalists coming into this trade you go into a conversation with
43:29the assumption that these guys are as passionate as you do and if you're not boring and you are respectful
43:35that they are good to be keen to talk to you to tell their story and that's exactly what i found with
43:41michael when you've given him the space that he needs to do the things that he's doing and if this
43:48is the end at le mans it's not the end of his race career that will uh complete the european
43:52le mans series and i think we'll still see him racing somewhere um but if that's the way that is
43:58le mans journey ends then i'm very sorry maybe he needs another five-year project to to go again
44:04i'd pick up there you go yeah unfortunately but um i'm entirely you can do p2 entirely in awe of
44:13someone doing two things at elite level yeah 100 and he does two things at elite level is a stunning
44:21actor that is his trade this is his passion and the time that it must have dedicated to the physical
44:28of the mental preparation uh to just do this is pretty awe-inspiring some on-board audio from
44:35either the ferrari or the twice it does sound like the ferrari but uh you were watching there the battle
44:40at the top of the lmp2 class into europol's fabio cher and have louis delatraz and wrt car number 41
44:46that's the red white and gray car and the black car with the green highlights duquesne teams nico
44:52pinot now we are ready for wrt to come into the pit lane so this will be the car in second place
44:57delatraz has been in for a while i think uh so let's see whether he comes in through the slow zone there
45:04he is and the inter-europol car easy to spot green and yellow halves to the car basically long slow zone
45:15into the dunlop curve uh into the uh porsche curves rather and then all the way through the chicane
45:22out onto the start finish line you can see vehicles heading off in the direction of
45:27that impact to michael fassbender with repair equipment aboard
45:33somebody ducking into the pit lane there and until that tire wall is repaired the slow zone will remain
45:40jerry tasa watching on another of the great belgian racing legends who are involved with
45:45the wrt racing crew and it's your paul lead by the way is going out over two minutes now and uh
45:53the silver driver cuba has done his six hours so if fabio sure is fit enough we've he's got that
46:00problem with his foot we've been told isn't that much of an issue you need to go and have a little
46:05look for some of the video yeah hopping literally hopping around the car as if it's some sort of
46:11added value pit stop challenge lark but no he he was run over by the 33 corvette yeah but um the team
46:19originally said they thought he'd probably broken bones in his foot and and that may transpire to be
46:23the case if even frankly even is it just severe bruising uh having suffered that um once before um that is
46:30no joke i broke a couple of toes in sebring and i've only really stopped feeling it about two or
46:35three weeks ago and that's a long time and i've not been driving race cars no indeed uh by the way
46:41the lead gap between alessandro pierre greedy and fredden hartley still hovering around the 19 22nd marks
46:47that's that's not really moved so much since we went through the last pit cycle there's a battle on
46:51track wrt car just leaving its pit box there goes the alpine that's sixth and seventh you can see on the
46:56graphic just leaving the pit lane so there's what between them what was that sort of 10 seconds maybe
47:02that's come down with that little battle isn't it that's uh 20 seconds to take it out of that gap
47:08uh with matthew vasifierre that will be a change in 30 hapsburg service 30 hapsburg slow full service
47:17for wrt that's not like them very much not like them
47:22um also recently through a pit stop is jronic van in the
47:33as the persia the number 93 car das myth has come to join us from uh fresh room breakfast at united
47:39also suppose that with a little mini tuba refreshers that's going to go really well with my double
47:43espresso is that going to be like what's its names in a bottle of coke but they're actually love hearts
47:50so thank you i'll let me some messages there that'd be lovely absolutely i'm sure that was richard dean's
47:55personal idea he's got that kind of outlook so this slow zone in a good good morning guy smith the
48:02slow zone in uh the porsche curves and this as a result of michael fassbender getting spat out as so
48:09many have actually this heli shot if we hold it we will see what the result of this this is turning
48:13off the public quiet highway the first element and then you come through this right left sequence
48:21and as he turned left look at the impact there he was trying to avoid running out wide and in fact he
48:28said it on the radio exactly as uh as peter dunbrek had suggested he was trying to avoid running out
48:34wide there and in and getting another track limits infringement i don't know how many he'd had whether
48:38that might have been a drive-through infringement but he was desperately trying to avoid it and just
48:43tighten the line too much car looped into the pits lmp2 leader in the pits yeah probably a share of
48:48state support so we won't get a chance to see whether not he's still hopping around on that he will still
48:53be hopping around absolutely not have stopped whether the foot's broken or not it is clearly far too
48:59painful to even walk on what do you ask guy this we're now close to 20 hours into the 24 hours of
49:06le mans 2023 and the way this racetrack develops multiple multiple multiple incidents gravel everywhere
49:16bits of tire debris everywhere bits of car carbon everywhere how filthy does this track get through
49:23that it's it there's places where it's barely a single line yeah it's pretty treacherous about this
49:29point in the race the track is not in great shape and obviously the marshals do a great job and if
49:33there is an incident they obviously clean up we saw that at um morsang corner but um and also the cars
49:40now are starting to become a little bit second hand the brake pedal might be getting a little bit long
49:44that might be nursing a a gear box issue or whatever else so really the end is in sight and um you know
49:52while there's many people still fighting for position some of these guys are just literally just nursing
49:56it to the end at this this point and um they just want to get that finish so if the weather remains sort
50:01of fairly constant presumably sort of end of the night early morning is is about the zenith of the track and
50:07then it just continues to degrade as more and more muck gets thrown out more more gravel and tire debris
50:13and it becomes although the grip level is good online there's quite a lot of the lap in any lap you're
50:19not online and that's it you've got the marbles the marbles of rubber little little pellets of rubber
50:24offline and while that's okay if you're driving online when you're not online which these hyper cars and
50:31even the p2 cars when they're making the passes around the outside of the porsche curves they are risking
50:36putting two or possibly four wheels into those marbles let me tell you when you got those marbles
50:42you've got marbles for a reason you you might as well hit wet patch so if you imagine it being like
50:48a single line on a drying track it's very similar situation so these guys can't switch off although
50:53the track is dry one small mistake run a bit wide and they will um pay the price for that leaders on
50:59pit road number eight in and out full tank of gas no driver change sebastian brendan hartley remains
51:05in no tires and you saw uh sangio pierre guidi there he is coming down the pit lane was uh the uh
51:13who was that coming down the pit lane in front uh number six porsche pensky car i think
51:18first team joe check the pitts has just coming down pit lane as well oh that's the other wrt car yes
51:23it is from second year that that was the red car the red tail that i was thinking oh there's the
51:27poor uh the uh ferrari but it's not so toyota and ferrari no longer stopping on the same lap
51:33their last stop was on the same lap the stop before that was on the same lap we've seen
51:37the leads change in the pit lane on the same lap you can't do that if you're stopping a lap behind
51:43somebody else so ferrari crept another lap in or have toyota somehow been forced to stop a lap
51:51and see what i can find on these statements on uh because guy these guys have been going at it
51:57eleven tenths there is absolutely no sign of any backing off between alessandro pierre guidi and
52:04the fari and brendan hartley and the toyota they've been going at it absolutely hammer and
52:08tongs what happened the last pit round of pit stops i don't know if you saw it but pierre guidi was in
52:13first from the lead then the car wouldn't restart when they dropped it onto its wheels and then they had to
52:18power cycle it lost about 30 seconds so brendan went by when we went by at that stage retook the
52:24lead and then it's like somebody had lit the blue touch paper alessandro pierre guidi came after him
52:31like a woman scored he just tore into him and went straight by and took the lead
52:37and now he's a lap ahead or a lap longer of fuel somehow do we know what the issue was i mean i guess
52:44the concern is is we know that the fari's got the pace it's got a pace advantage but you know that
52:50issue oh oh slow zone 311 caddy wasn't aware of that that's ready for it is very marginal energy
52:58needs to come in right now six yeah this is this will be his in lap it it well the last pit stop the
53:04most recent one where brendan took over uh there was no drama at all ferrari dropped down gone yes right
53:10so you know we've all got we've all got a laptop we've all got a phone but no switch on your stupid
53:18thing you you will find five minutes i mean it's that it's yeah that's exactly what it is and and
53:23you know in a million pound race car you hope that the electronics will be and they are much more
53:28resilient but on the other hand everything has a has a limit somewhere james glider said he said you
53:35know even though they've done multiple long distance endurance testing they're still kind
53:40of it they're kind of in the unknown at the minute i think that even this is surpasses what the testing
53:44they've done so we are in the end but yeah it's super impressive by these uh two top two cars just
53:50been at it hammer and tong all the race long and most of their distance testing was actually pre-season
53:55as well they've done one since the season started i think a poor car they did a couple of winter tests so
54:00actually one of them was wet so they've got knowledge but at that stage they had little
54:04knowledge of the car you know now they've got a lot more knowledge of the car and also therefore
54:10you know ramping up the knowledge of what it can and can't do in the way it's on a real racetrack
54:14or on this racetrack which isn't a real racetrack if you know what i mean so you know and again i'm
54:19sure all the way through your career here there are things that you have to do here and you cannot do here
54:26that don't relate to anywhere else you go because of what it is because it's public highway what
54:31what's impressed me actually is the the af course team how when i saw them in sebring they
54:38look like they've kind of just been thrown together and kind of were running the car very
54:41fast race car now they look like a proper well-oiled race team and not not dissimilar to how we were
54:48with bentley i mean they've only done a handful of races together now they've got people that worked
54:52together previously but when you try and merge different groups of people together it takes time
54:57and with a new car and a complicated car absolutely at that but but the the spirit in the team is just
55:03so relaxed and on it it's it's quite remarkable for what you say it's right it's a pickup crew and a
55:09brand new one i mean porsche were in the same deal but penske porsche team at sebring they had
55:16engineers working on the car who hadn't even been paid because they'd not been in the company
55:21a month that's how new some of these programs are i mean the fact that we've got a battle like
55:27this at le mans you know in those circumstances is remarkable uh three points of interest here the
55:33number six porsche confirmed they're changing the hybrid battery in that car um confirmed too that
55:38that was an early stop before toto waiting to find out exactly why well we'll have to wait until the
55:45written reports come out on thursday for that i think the key to that is the level of energy that still
55:50left aboard the ferrari at the point of reach that happened it's all about the slow zone the other
55:54point of interest and guys pointing on screen is being called to race director immediately as the
56:00team manager of the leading car in lmp2 interior competition now has somebody overstepped their
56:07drive time allocation have they got uh the only thing is that there's a minimum minimum six hours
56:14they're on maximum um i don't think they're close to that four hours in any six is is the main maximum
56:20figure yeah meanwhile nicely executed driver change james collardo with fresh rubber brendan hartley up to
56:31speed with tires that he's already done a stint on and he's been in really good form in this race brendan
56:37hartley just seems to have had a little bit of pace over his teammates in the number eight toyota
56:42well the big change here is that was 20 seconds it's now four seconds and that's the full service
56:50for the ferrari as opposed to the fuel and go gas and go takes a lot less time than if you're also
56:58because you can't start the tire change until you finish the fuel the driver change can go on at that
57:04stage yeah that's slightly seems a non-secondary to me but there we go um so yeah there's alessandro pierre
57:12guidi let's have a media duties yeah quick chat with uh let's keep one of the french networks sporting
57:20network france's biggest sporting news favorite that's just out the pits the 311 car the hands of
57:26jack aiken was he coming into the pits then he was he was coming into the pits when they had that locker
57:32oh yes yes and so that was it for the stop i don't think he was checking the car in the gravel at
57:37that point i think jack's just got aboard the car now we're four hours and one minutes ago what happened
57:45here mulsanne corner oh that was actually the first you came that's not mulsanne corner that is the
57:54chicane he crashed in in the wet crashed on the exit didn't he crashed here at the same place he almost met
58:01exactly the same fate oh my goodness that was a strange kind of a strange accident really well kind
58:07of steps out of the rear hit the curb which knocked it straight we're going to go to another slow zone
58:15we are about 20 hours in less about 30 seconds of this race gentlemen if you like the european
58:22lamont series race to go and the lead gap is 3.7 seconds that was very strict that is really deja vu
58:30that is that is almost the same incident he had the same incident john eric verne had in the 94
58:35peugeot straight off into those bits of barriers and in fact all the advertising hoardings are back shows
58:41how much work has gone on there because they've been repeatedly uh assaulted and attacked not just those
58:47two cars a a hard a huge number of them have our class leaders with four hours to go james collardo
58:54fabio scherer and sarah bovi stand by to clear slow zones eight and nine at 12 30 12 00 30.
59:04that was my work marshals are back at it yeah that is about to be removed whereas we've got one just
59:10about to be introduced or is introduced at the first uh chicane okay that will go from uh territory just
59:17before territory the end of the s's down to the exit of the first chicane the slow zones are in sort of
59:23standard blocks so you get territory to first chicane first chicane to second chicane second chicane to
59:30mulsanne corner mulsanne corner to indianapolis so to to allow the cars to go by and still continue
59:41without really affecting the race but allow a slow speed of car progress so that marshals can work at
59:49the side of the side of the track in relative safety
