When it comes to DIY, is it better to save money and do it yourself, or pay the professionals to get it right first time?

00:00Paul's good at, like, taking things apart and putting his foot through the ceiling and hammering and nailing to a pipe.
00:08I've done that a couple of times.
00:09So now we just, because those things have happened, we leave it to the experts.
00:14It depends on how expensive it is, if you have the tools and if you really need it done.
00:19It's a false economy, trying to do it yourself. Certainly for me anyway.
00:24Given the cost of hiring tradespeople now, I think more and more people have to do DIY.
00:30They certainly won't get the same job as a professional job, but for certain things, I think it's a huge way to save money.
00:38If I try and look at it and try and fix it, it'll go wrong.
00:41If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any at all.
00:43So if I end up doing it, I'll have to get somebody in and pay twice the price to have it fixed again.
00:49So it's not really my thing. Get the job done properly first time.
00:52I would not really trust myself and any jobs that need doing, I would definitely get somebody in.
