04:04I'm happy with this one. We've just gone over.
04:11Nothing wrong with that.
04:14Right, where are we heading?
04:15Waypoint, Delta, Spark, Tank and Park. Let's go up and have a look-see.
04:20You've got two and three tankers.
04:21It looks like it hasn't been your 10 o'clock.
04:23Ah, I see. I'm clustered.
04:24Yeah, yeah.
04:27Where is that?
04:30First one looks like it's discharging over the side.
04:32Ah, yeah, I see it.
04:33Oh, yeah, I see it slightly wide.
04:34I see it.
04:36Definitely have a look at it then.
04:37Have a look.
04:40It takes shots at that.
04:43There's something down there.
04:50We're here. Let's speak to them.
04:52That's a good point, they're discharging.
04:54This is Coast Guard 224, Coast Guard 224, Channel 16.
04:58We have eyes on a small yacht.
04:59We have eyes on a small yacht.
05:00We have eyes on a small yacht.
05:01Due south of our lookout.
05:02Yep.
05:03About 300 meters.
05:04It's anchored.
05:05It's anchored.
05:06The tide is ebbing.
05:07And he's taking breakers.
05:08We have eyes on a small yacht.
05:09Yep.
05:10We have eyes on a small yacht.
05:11Due south of our lookout.
05:12About 300 meters.
05:13Yep.
05:14It's anchored.
05:15The tide is ebbing.
05:16And he's taking breakers over the yacht.
05:19On person on board.
05:21No further person to see.
05:23We have eyes on a small yacht.
05:25Yep.
05:26All right.
05:28All right.
05:29All right.
05:30All right.
05:31All right.
05:32All right.
05:33All right.
05:34We have eyes on a small yacht.
05:39All right.
05:42how long have you been watching him for we've had him on observation since 1551
05:50okay is he on deck is he trying to get the anchor up can you see
05:57no he's not trying to do that he's sat in the cockpit uh holding the killer
06:02and wouldn't wouldn't realistically be able to recover i think where he is at the moment
06:09he's in the breaking surf okay we'll get a coast guard rescue team down there to get some eyes
06:15see if they can get in contact
06:16so the coast guard new home mobile gets us departed space now for west beach new haven
06:23okay so we're looking for a white bermudan yacht anchored in the harbor entrance with ways
06:32breaking over the cockpit at the western side of the west hill
06:39southern coast guard southern coast guard that is newhoven mobile now on scene and stand
06:48by for sit-ready
06:49there's definitely a person on board yeah one pob i can see
07:07but he needs to not be where he is it's rough and the waves are crashing over him if his
07:16anchor fails he's going to be on the beach within kinnick all wrapped around the end of the west
07:21pier he'll get smashed a bit okay we need to give this guy some help he's getting hammered
07:29he was taking another heavy breaker he's just the one person that's been there the whole time yeah
07:43newhaven dla he's anchored there's lots of waves crashing over where he is one person on board
08:02he's on the front of the vessel at the moment trying to tend to his anchor
08:15he's not waving or anything he hasn't caught up on the bhf
08:17he's in a really precarious situation and if his anchor goes or if he steps he's going to go
08:31onto the beach he's going to go into a rocky area right that's it then let's let's launch a boat
08:35air rescue jilly speaking stolen asking for an air asset please coast guard 163 yuka rescue
08:49tasking at newhaven a white yacht with one person on board stolen coast guard are coordinating channel
08:56zero uh newhaven crt and lifeboat have been passed over
09:19the rescue rescue 163 we're at the scene we're about 100 feet away from the lifeboat
09:23uh looking down at the moment we're just doing our own assessment suggest if they tried first
09:30yeah i think that is the safest option uh you have it for 163 if you have the first go
09:35if the water's too shallow it's to do a goal uh we'll give it a go
09:40i don't know that the lifeboat's going to get in that close
09:53i'm guessing he's got no power at all
10:00if we could get a little bit closer so i can have a look
10:10yeah wind is fairly strong
10:12all right should we get ready to just in case he goes in
10:16yeah i'm just going to open the door for happy we're all secure
10:22all right so if you look at the wave plans now so there are calm patches there
10:27so he's going to hit that big wave there we go and that'll calm down now for a bit
10:33you see what i mean there are carpets in between the big waves and they're fairly predictable
10:37the carbon there that's 10 seconds what i could do is hold you a couple of units away
10:44just hold you in the lurk and then once everything calms down move you in maybe a highlight to recover
10:51roger uh how much fuel we got i'd say go fuel is 250 from here roger you got 150 to use
10:57and that's not flash flex okay rescue rescue 163 but we may require refuel at shore if you could see that for us please
11:11okay
11:19okay our rattles here pre-wrench apu is starting radar is on standby uh where you're using harnesses
11:28doors just double check please uh we're all secure since polycon radius is yours radio check polycon
11:34bad and clear bad clear mate what is he doing at the moment i know you said he's standing up on board
11:39he's not waving or anything yeah he didn't stand up he's now stuck back down if his anchor fails
11:44he's going to be on rock armor he'll get smashed a bit his safest option is to swim he'd be on shore
11:51so quickly would be better for us to pick him out of the water to be fair if he's got a life jacket on
11:57yeah if he doesn't then well so we've got options either he jumps off the back and we pick him out
12:02the water or we try and get him off the back i can't see a life jacket on this fella no i can't either oh
12:10you're right okay
12:11oh it looks like he's gonna jump wrong guys yeah just a jumper right yeah from there it's difficult to tell
12:24we can't winch to there because there's too many wires in the way yeah you hear an oscar 163 while he's
12:49across swell like that we haven't got any access to him we're gonna have to wait until he's into that
12:54swell again the pier is behind us we may need to come up a couple of feet in a minute okay he's gonna
13:02end up on shore he's gonna he's gonna end up on those rocks there we go there again don't run height 70 feet
13:1170 feet okay there we go right you can't winch to there nope and it moves around like that
13:34there's not a lot we can do
13:35there's a few beaches on those rocks it's not gonna be pretty but if he does go on those rocks we're
13:41literally the only people who can get him he's gonna go any second
13:49you're gonna take that pull

22:31go with this roger that he's getting out he's not if he comes off there chris he's gonna die
22:43go with this
22:50this is cross guard 224 cross guard 224
23:02let's ask them what they're discharging this is cross guard 224 cross guard 224 channel 16
23:13that's it it's got us to that
23:20they're not speaking to us are they get some good images
23:24bring your report you held them and they're inclined to answer
23:28report that to the kind of pollution department
23:39i think the old problem just cleaning tanks i think they're just flushing yeah and i think it's
23:45all likely to be within bits but it's important that the vessels understand that we're out there
23:51and we're watching what they're doing yeah i suggest we start heading waypoint to
23:570264 yeah yeah
24:03the one that's out there as well he's got a bit of a trail coming out of him
24:07looks like it's just disturbing the algae though doesn't it i think so because you can see it here
24:11in front of the same discoloration what does IR look like
24:16there's really nothing there on IR is there probably no happy with him
24:25do you want that tanker there at the 10 o'clock that looks very heavily laden
24:29yeah yeah let's have a look at it
24:32it's not going on is it no
24:3710 o'clock now 10 o'clock half a mile half a mile
24:43what's that patching the water there we're just off the left wing now
24:47that's it there we go
24:57it's like a little bit of color in it i don't know anything on IR
25:01but it's something just hang about this area for the minute yeah you need to measure it you need a size of it
25:15so you've now got 126 meters 126 meters
25:21126 meters
25:23yep and then it's up to the bottom
25:25it's 57 meters 57 meters yeah we need to report this to solent coast guard
25:36this is coast guard 224 coast guard 224 over
25:48coast guard 224 this is on a coast guard go ahead sir over
25:52we're on a counter pollution in the south east and channel area i'm going to come across some
26:01pollution on the surface approximate size is 126 meters by 57 meters over
26:08okay thank you
26:20neil hi jane we've had a call from solent coast guard
26:25it's approximately six nautical miles to the southeast yeah if we can maybe do a little
26:41bit of investigation to understand the size and the scale of the problems and whether or
26:45not we're going to need to get any of the local authorities involved in a potential shoreline cleanup
26:49the counter pollution salvage team has a big responsibility when it comes to the protection
27:05of the marine environment we take our role very seriously when an oil spill occurs the effect on
27:12the shoreline can be within hours it doesn't just have the effect on the environment it also has an
27:19effect on the livelihood the tourism and recreation industry without mitigation the impact of oil on
27:26coastal regions can last years we have to be ready and we have to have plans in place to escalate as we need to
27:43give us some morphine in the goodness and dance the tour how much morphine two milligrams that we've got
27:47something coming up with more because she's increased ivy yeah
27:58possibly bleeding into your tummy as well so we're going to give you another five of morphine okay
28:02we'll just do our best to get your pain tolerable
28:12the helicopter can't land on the deck okay we're going to do a short winch into a helicopter any
28:25deckhands are written you ever highlined anyone before because i don't want to spin with this lady
28:32because she's frightened already i need to minimize that spinning i think the paramedic has made this
28:38assessment they're going to make a decision of what it is and where they take them but we don't know yet
28:45so let me just speak to the aircraft
28:57i'm going to highline her in a stretcher so i've just given them a highline brief

32:06Winch, he hits.
32:08Over the side.
32:11New Haven 06, can you grab the life ring?
32:13Okay. Monitor for big waves, or if you see a monster coming, let me know.
32:26Will do you, man.
32:27And I'll hold him off.
32:29Running in.
32:30Roger.
32:31Reset height, five.
32:36Okay, you've got two mediums about to hit.
32:39Right only.
32:39All right, one only.
32:52This has been got one.
32:54Steady, steady, steady.
32:56It's clear now.

33:03He's on the deck.

33:06Forward one.
33:07Forward one and left.
33:08Left one and back.
33:21Steady.
33:23Steady.
33:25Okay, Chris is indicating he's going to try physical grip.
33:28Roger.
33:29Put him on the harbor wall.
33:30Yeah, that's the idea.
33:31Okay, right one and back.
33:34Yeah, you've got a couple more.
33:35Steady.
33:37Substantial lights coming.
33:39Steady.
33:40Steady.
33:41Okay, the yacht's broken up.
33:42Right one.
33:46The vessel is breaking up very seriously now.
33:49We have full casualty care equipment here ready to receive.
33:52Over.
33:57Steady.
33:58That one's good.
33:59You've got a steady.
34:01Steady.
34:04After that one, you've got about 20 seconds, I reckon, of a chance.
34:07There you go, Chris.
34:0820 seconds.
34:16Drive one.
34:17You're sinking.
34:19Steady.
34:20Steady.
34:22Steady.
34:24Steady.
34:26Steady.
34:26Still good, Babs.
34:28Okay.
34:29Steady.
34:31Steady.
34:33He's trapped!
34:34He's trapped in the wreckage.
34:53Rescue 936.
34:55Queenway 2.
34:56Many thanks.
34:57All the best.
34:57Safe flight to Bangor.
35:11Rescue 936.
35:13We have a 80.
35:14You're on female.
35:15Pain in the ABDO area.
35:18No real mechanism of injury.
35:20She's had 700 milligrams of morphine.
35:22Okay.
35:23Okay.
35:32Landing gear is down.
35:34Down three degrees.
35:35Float safe.
35:36All clear left.
35:37Middle.
35:38Spirigional hit.
35:39Delta two.
35:40Delta two.
35:41Five.
35:42Flight is good.
35:43Four.
35:44Three.
35:45Two.
35:46One.
35:48Steady.
35:48Nine-year.
35:49Clear below.
35:49Stand on.
35:50Okay, three, two, one, base, front, and you're close.
36:00Is an ambulance here?
36:01Yes, yeah, we've got it.
36:02It's our ambulance, buddy.
36:08Ready, brace, lift.
36:14Guys, quick heads up.
36:16Just to let you know that 936 is on the ground.
36:19It banger, awaiting the ambulance to transfer the casualty from the Queen Mary to hospital to A&E.
36:31I will do everything I possibly can to look after that patient.
36:35But ultimately, there's only so much that paramedics can do.
36:41I don't have a CT scanner.
36:44I'm not a surgeon.
36:46All I can do is keep their condition from worsening.
36:51We'll update you as soon as we can.
36:53Cheers, thank you. Bye-bye.
36:54A sustained level of bleeding over days, you know, in that condition would have ultimately caused her to be quite unwell.
37:04Hello, it's Sticky Facts on Q6.
37:07Just stay here.
37:08Q's our paramedics back from Oxford House, so we're going to be getting started.
37:11We reduce the time to hospital by a huge percentage, where the doctors and the nurses do everything they can possibly do to save their lives.
37:22But it is a sad fact of life that some do then, you know, not survive whilst they're in hospital.
37:36And ultimately, the best closure I can get is to know that I've done everything that I possibly could do to get them to the care they need.
37:43You can rescue, you can rescue, rescue 926, no airport, five persons on board.
37:56He's trapped now.
37:58He's trapped!
37:59Okay, in about 10 seconds, you've got some bigger ones coming.
38:02Okay, Chris has come clear.
38:03Do you want to come out, Chris?
38:22I've been doing this job 25 years now.
38:27Some people are unlucky.
38:29Sometimes it's just not possible.
38:31Sometimes it's just not possible to be able to rescue in those conditions.
38:36Are you probably on the hard standing?
38:38Okay.
38:40Chris, he's going to go again.
38:42Steady.
38:44Steady.
38:46Steady.
38:48Steady.
38:49Okay, Chris is on the ground.
38:50Watch out.
38:51If there's a wave coming, give me a shout.
38:53The winching clear.
38:53Roger.
38:55Steady.
38:56You're okay for now.
38:57Steady.
38:57All right, she's good.
38:58Check, you're okay.
38:59Steady.
39:00260 on the field.
39:01Okay, steady.
39:02Height is good.
39:05All right, one of forwards.
39:06You need a good overhead now, Chris.
39:08Steady.
39:09Steady.
39:11Height is good.
39:12You've got a good flat period now.
39:14Roger.
39:15Getting a bit of tail.
39:16He's coming up off the wall as the wind...
39:18Okay, he's got him.
39:19He's got him.
39:19Let's give him a physical grip.
39:20Chris, you're going up on the wall.
39:22Steady.
39:22Height is good.
39:23Still a good flat period.
39:24Forward one.
39:26Forward one.
39:27Steady.
39:28Wentching in.
39:28Over the water.
39:33Move back.
39:35Move back.
39:40Steady.
39:42Steady.
39:43On the ground.
39:45Steady.
39:46Height is good.
39:48Steady.
39:50Off the hook.
39:52Wentching in.
39:53No T-hook.
39:53Let's move forward and away.
39:55Right tail.
39:56You have to forward.
40:01Rescue.
40:02Rescue.
40:02Rescue 163.
40:03The casual has been recovered from the yacht.
40:06And we'll have to go for fuel.
40:07We've got literally nothing left.
40:09Do you hear?
40:24Rescue Tracy speaking.
40:25Hi, Tracy.
40:26It's one of the crew on Rescue 163.
40:28We're just making contact.
40:31They just loaded up the patient on the ambulance.
40:33They're just completing the handover.
40:36It's fine.
40:38Yeah, yeah.
40:38That's good to hear.
40:40That was an extremely good outcome considering that situation.
40:44Can I check on the welfare of the winchman?
40:47He's got no injuries.
40:49The circus is all right though, isn't he?
40:51Yeah.
40:51He's fine.
40:52Oh, that's good.
40:53There was his arches there.
40:54He's all right, yeah.
40:57Yeah, no.
40:57He did one hell of a job, actually.
41:00That was pretty tasty.
41:02That's kind of tasty if they get.
41:04That guy's truly, really lucky to be alive.
41:07Yeah.
41:08Yeah.
41:12I think this is certainly one of the most difficult jobs I've done.
41:15It's certainly one of the times where you know you've actually saved the casualty's life.
41:22I think if we hadn't been there or the CRT hadn't been there, I don't think he would have survived.
41:29It was horrific to see this man being thrown around like a rag doll in the sea, potentially the end of someone's life in front of our eyes.
41:44And in 22 years of a Coast Guard, I've not experienced that.
41:49It was a huge relief all round that both the casualty and the winchman were safe and with us.
42:01He wasn't wearing a life jacket.
42:03Quite often the outcome is not positive.
42:06It's not just the helicopter crew.
42:10It's all the other people who assist us in making these rescues happen.
42:15It's a team game.
42:18We practiced for this.
42:19We trained for this.
42:21We're there.
42:22We're saving lives.
42:23But you're just there.
42:24You're then on to the next one.
42:25It's what's coming next.
42:27After a rescue like that, it's primarily, we want a cup of tea.
42:32I was knackered.
42:32I was knackered.
43:02The model system will use weather data.
43:08What I will look for is how quickly the oil is moving over the sea surface, where it's heading towards.
43:32What I have seen before the air safety engine.
43:46It's been a couple of years that goes to dice with me.
43:49It's drunken.
43:50I'm the owner here.
43:50What I have seen before the snow is moving over the sea surface.
43:51I think someone's having a stroke.
44:13He's unconscious at present.
44:14A 75-year-old male, unresponsive.
44:17What happened?
44:18Oh, my.
44:19Oh.
44:19For you, for you.
44:20You have a big problem.
44:22My concern at the moment is the person in the water.
44:25Manslaughter, gross negligence, manslaughter,
44:28and murder has to be considered.
44:30That is a very high-speed impact.
44:34The skipper needs to explain how he's hit that.
44:49To be continued...
