Bicycling's Tara Seplavy talks about lightweight bikes and the Aethos.
Transcript
00:00Aero bikes are getting all the attention right now, particularly when we saw this past summer
00:04where everybody raced an aero bike in the Tour de France. However, got some new lightweight bikes
00:11that are really kind of shining right now for us. So first off, we have BMC Time Machine SLR,
00:18then we have our Cervelo R5. There's also the newly released Specialized Athos 2,
00:26which is just a revision on the fabulous Athos platform. All of the bikes that we're talking
00:32about here come in sub 15 pounds, so under the UCI weight limit. But the big thing about this is
00:40that these aren't really intended for racing anymore. I've been riding the R5 a lot lately,
00:45absolutely love it. It's really lightweight, dynamic. If you're not going out there hunting
00:53KOMs or QOMs and trying to be the fastest overall on a segment, you're going to have some great
00:59ride quality out of these. They just have just a, I don't know, it's a je ne sais quoi about them,
01:04where they just float up the hills. It's an undefinable character that really makes
01:09lightweight bikes super special.
