Transcript
00:00thoughts are very much turning to the future at rangers football club and what will come next
00:05after russell martin's sacking as head coach the former southampton and swansea city boss
00:11has been relieved of his duties after just 123 days following sunday's one all premiership draw
00:16with falkirk proved the last straw angry fans gathered around the team bus russell martin
00:22needed escorted out by strewers at the end of the game in grangemouth and the 49ers enterprises and
00:27andrew kavanagh the new owners decided enough was enough he leaves the club with the lowest win
00:33percentage in the club's history in terms of a permanent manager the shortest reign in terms of
00:37permanent manager but the debate over is he or is he not that the worst ever rangers manager
00:43to be in a permanent sense is being shell from another bay attentions are quickly turning to
00:48who comes next with an immediate need to pick up results both in the league and in european football
00:55there have been several names mentioned with the role the most prominent being stephen gerrard
01:00he featured on the real ferdinand podcast this week albeit probably recorded before the russell
01:05martin news but certainly hinting that he is ready to go again in management he wants to go to a project
01:11where winning is the number one priority and that would certainly align with rangers the last time
01:16they won the league it was with him in charge there would be other factors to iron out there definitely
01:21is currently situated in bahrain in the middle east after his time at alfa etifak while he's not
01:26contracted to the saudi arabian club anymore he's not moved away from the region so that maybe comes
01:31with its difficulties in terms of family maybe a little side issue being the the brains of his
01:37operation the first time around was largely lauded down to michael beale who has since returned to
01:41rangers and left in acrimonious fashion after less than a year in charge at his head coach fans loved
01:48seeing michael beale back a second time around but now the the feeling has very much changed on him
01:53and it'd be interesting to see whether he comes back with gerrard because he did eventually go over
01:58to saudi arabia with the liverpool legend sean dych is one that's been mentioned but he doesn't look
02:04like he'll be a candidate slavin bilic has been one that's been mentioned but again you would need to
02:08really question the 49ers whether to be a coach like him going from russell martin pragmat in a
02:14position a possession based style if you want to call that a philosophy manager going to someone
02:20who is a bit more pragmatic to be kind would be the type of decision that would probably leave
02:26rangers fans questioning whether those running the club really do know the direction they want to go
02:30in danny roll at sheffield wednesday would perhaps be a bit more of a seamless transition from what
02:35martin was trying to do albeit unsuccessfully danny roll is work at sheffield wednesday lauded after
02:42financial crisis but still managing to impress in the championship several names are being mentioned
02:48with it daren mckinnis is another one at heart giving his strong start there and proven track
02:53record here in scotland previously rejected the job when he was in charge at aberdeen but it doesn't
02:58look like that one's going to be much of a starter as well so there's plenty of candidates at this stage
03:03very much still in the runners and riders part of it steve jen is probably the one that's been
03:08mentioned most but i think there'll be a quite a fair bit of change on this topic within the next 70s
03:14you
