00:00Scrum straight through the red line.
00:04Damage, Damage.
00:05No, Guna! Stay still!
00:08Derbyshire traffic cops.
00:10It does have warning markers for potential firearms.
00:14Turn over!
00:15You're in duress.
00:16Intent supply class.
00:17It's up.
00:19Police a thousand square miles.
00:23It's a crash, crash.
00:24You got any other injury other than your head?
00:27With some of the UK's most dangerous roads.
00:30Oh, nobody's been killed out of this.
00:32I don't know.
00:33Do you know how fast you're going?
00:34It's scary when stuff like this happens.
00:37In life and death situations.
00:39Get on the ground, you'll be tainted!
00:41We've got runners.
00:43Face down!
00:45Yes, yes, successful sting.
00:49Around every corner.
00:51It's a great acting, mate.
00:53There's a new challenge for the traffic cops.
00:57They're by the vehicle now!
01:00I'm going home!
01:01David!
01:02Stop grabbing me like that!
01:06Crash, crash, crash!
01:08Coming up...
01:09We've got drivers, we've got dogs, we've got guns.
01:12Operation Fuego.
01:14Vehicle's now failing to stop, failing to stop.
01:17Five forces across the Midlands and Yorkshire.
01:20Box on, box on, box on.
01:21Cracking down on rogue crime gangs.
01:24Get your hands where I can see them.
01:25Big boy's out, you know he?
01:27Hunting for thieves on the run.
01:29Come back down, all the dogs coming up there.
01:33And dangerous drivers.
01:36Vehicle's crashed, vehicles crashed.
01:39Putting lives on the line.
01:41Put your head up as much as you can.
01:43Right.
01:43No seatbelt, please hit the windscreen.
02:01So, evening all.
02:03Up Fuego, running until Thursday.
02:05As ever, we're looking at targeting the three serious issues that affect Derbyshire's.
02:10We've got Op Barrick.
02:11We've got all the dwelling and non-dwelling brakes that are going on.
02:15Theft of motor vehicles.
02:16And the theft of or from vans, keyless cars.
02:21BMWs are getting stolen.
02:23Mercedes are getting stolen.
02:25Anything high-powered, high-performance.
02:27We just need to stop them.
02:28We've got a West Yorkshire Intel cell operating.
02:31We've got a North Hanson Intel cell operating.
02:33Leicestershire have got TPAC units.
02:35Knox have got enhanced TPAC units.
02:37And Staffordshire have got TPAC units as well.
02:40Other than that, we've got drovers.
02:41We've got dogs.
02:42We've got guns.
02:44Let's be out there catching people.
02:47Let's go, man.
02:52It's the first day of a regional operation to disrupt road crime gangs.
02:59Off Fuego is basically a week of action, really, against all kinds of requisitive crime.
03:05Whether that be theft of vehicles, burglaries, the theft from curtsiders.
03:13So we've got five unmarked units out tonight to cover areas and be proactive.
03:19It's a multi-force operation.
03:21So we'll have Knox police coming into Derbyshire.
03:24We'll go into Knox, Leicestershire, wherever those resources are needed.
03:28And the information sharing between the forces is key in tracking vehicles of interest.
03:32The criminals that are involved in these sorts of offences are quite willing to put their
03:38life at risk as well as everybody else's.
03:40We've very much got no fear at all.
03:42Our aim, really, is to disrupt that, go out and catch as much as we can and make best use
03:48of our tactics.
03:53From an A, we're just getting a cloned vehicle hitting up on cameras and one's southbound.
03:58I'll have a mutual, I don't know, dates on it.
04:02Yeah, Tango 15, do you monitor?
04:05Juliet 55, Tango 25 and 26.
04:08I assume you've got your body worn active.
04:09You can start a scene for us, please.
04:11Three lads smashing a car up on Craddock Avenue in Spondon.
04:14It's not too far away.
04:16With several crimes already reported within the first three hours of Off Fuego,
04:21Derbyshire officers spread out across the county.
04:27Can you stab the vehicle details again, please?
04:31In the north of the county, near Sheffield, John Terry spots a suspicious car.
04:38I'm currently in pursuit of a vehicle.
04:40It's failed to stop.
04:41So, speed's currently 5-0.
04:46I'm actually in the right.
04:48Passing to the other side.
04:52Reason for stop, the excess speed.
04:55Right, so right, right, right.
04:59It's on the right.
05:00It is left, left, left.
05:04Come back out.
05:04Multiple units raced to the area to help John bring this pursuit to a stop.
05:12John's tried to stop the vehicle initially due to its manner of driving and excess speed.
05:17It's failed to stop.
05:17It's done a bit of a loop around the village and a decamp shortly.
05:24Right, left, left, left.
05:26About 30 seconds from you, mate.
05:29Sting your head to the motor railway bridges.
05:31Oh, very good, Scott.
05:32Thank you, mate, thank you.
05:33Up ahead, officers prepare to puncture the car's tyres.
05:37Legative, vehicles continuing to the other railway bridge.
05:42And you'll start the railway bridge with your finger.
05:45With you now.
05:50Vehicles crash, vehicles crash.
05:59Out and running, driver is into gardens to the right.
06:02Passenger remains in the vehicle.
06:07Let's throw away a bridge.
06:09Everybody knows what stingers are and what the repercussions of going over the stinger is.
06:16So it's not surprising that the driver of the van has done his best to avoid going over the stinger.
06:22But in doing so, it's collided with the parapet and sent the vehicle into a spin and out of control.
06:28Which way has he gone?
06:28While officers search for the driver, John and PC Mark Scott deal with the injured passenger.
06:48I'm not going to go, bro.
06:53I can't go, do I?
06:54Look at me a second.
06:56Yeah.
06:57Let me get some on it.
06:58Just stay sat still, mate.
07:00I'm going to take things off.
07:01Just get us a bandage, just about right, mate.
07:03Are your legs all right?
07:04Yeah, bro.
07:04Yeah.
07:04Let's have a look at you.
07:07What?
07:08I say it's in your eye, mate.
07:09Yeah.
07:10Well, yeah, if you can, put your head up as much as you can.
07:14Right.
07:19Is it just your head?
07:22Yeah, behind me.
07:22Yeah.
07:28I think there's something alive.
07:30He's up on the train track.
07:32I can hear him running about.
07:33Or someone.
07:40Still in here, there's a dog coming in about 20 seconds, so it's up to you.
07:46Come back down or the dog's coming up there.
07:52Go ahead.
07:53When you get a chance, could you let the network rail now get the port on the line?
07:58They just mail it in, the railway line.
08:00I've just exported to be CPR on to call into network rail.
08:04I've got some cleansing wipes here for this.
08:06Let's see what we've got.
08:10Fango 36, there's a massive bullseye and a hole in the passenger side window,
08:14so I suspect no seatbelt, and he's hit the windscreen.
08:19Bloody far, thank you.
08:22Do you have your mouth, mate?
08:23Yeah.
08:24Because of the smoke, mate, I'm going to guide you out.
08:25Your legs are all right, yeah?
08:26I'll keep hold of you.
08:28Just keep your arm out.
08:29Come out of the van, because obviously it's smoking,
08:31and we're going to make sure you're OK.
08:31Come on, mate.
08:33All right?
08:33You walk for us?
08:36Which driver, mate?
08:38That, it's by that.
08:40I'm not going to run out.
08:41I know you're not, mate.
08:41We just want to look after you, pal.
08:42You're the passenger, so we're not going to be here.
08:44Let's get under this bridge, mate,
08:45so you've got some cover, and then...
08:46I can't see.
08:47I know, mate.
08:48There's a pavement behind you.
08:49Sit down for us.
08:50Three, two, one.
08:51Sit down, mate.
08:52You all right?
08:52Good, man.
08:53Good, man.
08:54He's been here, wasn't he?
08:55From CO2L, protocol into your network rail now.
08:58I'll shut you up when there's confirmed caution on the line.
09:02Railway lines aren't a place for anybody to be.
09:04When you think you've seen it all,
09:06there's always something else that happens
09:07to surprise you as to what levels people will go through
09:10to not be caught.
09:11We have heard movement somewhere in these bushes,
09:15so we're now waiting for a dog to go into the bushes
09:19to see if we can find the little scallywag.
09:24Yeah, we'll see if the dog picks up a scent.
09:26A few hours into a week-long vehicle crime crackdown
09:50across the Midlands and Yorkshire.
09:53See what's happening, man.
09:54Derbyshire's traffic cops are dealing
09:57with the aftermath of a pursuit.
10:01Where do you live?
10:03I see your local, are you?
10:04Yeah, all right.
10:06With the runaway driver on the loose
10:08near a live railway line,
10:10officers attending to the injured passenger left behind.
10:14Oh, stop.
10:15I'm hurting you.
10:17Let's have a look at your head, like,
10:19now we're in a bit more light, mate.
10:20Just put your head up and look at me.
10:22Have we got some scissors?
10:23Well, I've got his jacket, mate.
10:25Looking at windscreen, he's gone straight into it, hasn't he?
10:30To be fair, mate, I think drivers don't say them.
10:32They've both done it, so they're going to have a nasty gash.
10:36If you look in the car, you can see that the driver's not had the seatbelt on
10:38because it's still clipped in where they mostly sat on top of it.
10:42There's a slight smell of alcohol.
10:44Looking in the back seat,
10:45there's some cans of lager just discarded there,
10:48and then, obviously, the legs of white powder that sits on the driver's seat.
10:52The stinger has been plotted at this railway bridge,
10:57and as the vehicle's come towards it,
10:58there's a good chance it's potentially tried to avoid the stinger,
11:01which is what's resulted in the collision.
11:04When you look back at the footage from the pursuit vehicle,
11:07you can count on one hand how many seconds it takes
11:09for the driver to get out of that vehicle.
11:13If I was caught up in an RTC
11:14and one of the occupants of my vehicle,
11:16if they've got a significant injury,
11:18my first thought wouldn't be to get out of the vehicle,
11:20run off and leave them there for dead.
11:24What's your mate called that will drive you, mate?
11:25Because we're a bit worried about him, fella.
11:27Yeah, man.
11:28What's your mate called that will drive you?
11:31Where's he from, mate?
11:34No, mate.
11:36Obviously, the main priority that we've got at the moment
11:38is making sure that passenger's safe and well
11:39and gets the treatment they need
11:41because they don't know what injuries they might have.
11:44It's an ETA for T-mask, please.
11:47It's just that the chat that we've got
11:49is clearly very disorientated,
11:50but a huge bang to the head.
11:53Oh, no, just to have a little bit more contact.
11:55It looks like he's possibly got a dislocated left wrist
11:58or broken.
12:00It's even colder than that, though.
12:02Yeah, 24.
12:04ETA for your mass is now 10 minutes, 1-0.
12:07Thank you very much.
12:08We're just sat here waiting, mate,
12:09for an ambulance to come all right, mate?
12:11So, from doing some digging,
12:15we've identified who could be the driver,
12:18a local lad who I've been dealing with
12:19in the 10 years that I've been in the job.
12:22The names never seem to change.
12:25CCTV from the owner of a property
12:28next to the railway line
12:29has captured the driver's escape.
12:32So we've heard the noise,
12:33seen the police looking round,
12:35so we've looked back on the CCTV,
12:37we've seen the guy jump over the gate
12:38and then jump straight over the wall
12:40onto the railway line.
12:41All you see is headlights at the car
12:43spinning round, all smoke.
12:45Vehicles crash, vehicles crash.
12:50Out and running,
12:51driver is into gardens to the right,
12:54passenger remains in the vehicle.
12:56And then he just runs straight across here
12:58and goes out of sight.
12:59Sergeant Adam Shipley arrives with a drone.
13:09We're using this house as driveway
13:11and it's very, very big
13:12and a perfect take-off landing site.
13:16He's gone up on the embankment there,
13:18I think.
13:18The dog's up there now.
13:20About here where my torch is,
13:22looking at the CCTV,
13:23he's jumped over the fence
13:24where this little tree is.
13:25We need to come back.
13:37Somebody in the field.
13:38Oh.
13:39From drone,
13:40can we just confirm nobody's in the field
13:41which is adjacent to the road
13:43where this collision is?
13:45Just wave your arms, mate,
13:46just confirm we've got you on as camera.
13:49Yes, yes, cheers.
13:50Oh, dear.
13:55We've found plenty of cops walking.
13:57We have, mate, yeah.
14:00I'm to a winner then, yeah.
14:02It's that house there, isn't it?
14:03Yeah.
14:04They've got some sort of thing in the garden.
14:07It's plausible that he's run that way.
14:09Oh, yeah, that's the...
14:10Short of it being another animal,
14:11it needs looking at me.
14:12Yeah, it needs looking at me, too.
14:14The concern is that we've got
14:16an injured person wandering around
14:18that could be out in the cold
14:19in an open area
14:20or hiding under a tree line
14:24or something
14:24that obviously the head injury
14:25is going to cause them some issues,
14:27especially in the dropping temperatures
14:29because it's probably only about
14:30five or six degrees out now.
14:32Is there any officers on the trail
14:33that runs parallel to the road
14:36where the collision is?
14:37Mate, just wave your arms around
14:38to make sure we've got the right person.
14:40Yeah, nice one.
14:40Cheers.
14:41The first one was a couple of pheasants
14:44sat on a tree branch.
14:45We keep finding loads of heat sources,
14:46but they're all cops.
14:47The pheasants?
14:48Pheasants and cops.
14:49I've found them two pheasants before.
14:50Pheasants and cops.
14:51Two cops so far up in there.
14:52Two cocks or cops?
14:56Nothing's anywhere.
14:57Heat source anywhere.
14:59Can't find him.
15:00That's the update.
15:02We can't find him.
15:04The dog's been up
15:05with no real track.
15:07The ship has got the drone up.
15:09The few heat sources
15:10will all turn out to be
15:11wild animals.
15:13Or police officers.
15:14Ambulance should be here soon
15:17for the passenger,
15:20but we're drawing a blank
15:22on the driver.
15:23We're going to get the vehicle
15:25recovered for forensics
15:26because we've got opportunities there
15:27for DNA.
15:29So we can pick him
15:30for a later date.
15:31He's definitely going to be
15:32on the DNA database.
15:35Even though the driver
15:36has escaped,
15:37he's well known to the police.
15:39It's a name I've heard
15:40many times
15:41over my 10-year career.
15:43It's someone
15:44who I've dealt with
15:44on a few occasions
15:45back when I used to work
15:46on the beat in that area
15:48and he's probably going to
15:49continue to be a criminal
15:50for the rest of his life.
15:52But we're going to
15:53catch up with him anyway
15:54because that vehicle
15:55is going to have
15:56forensic opportunities
15:57all over it.
15:58Cheers.
15:59How's to see you now?
16:00Cheers.
16:01So, it's a good little job.
16:03Rene, just to be aware
16:18if there's a vehicle
16:19that's hit cameras
16:20heading M1 northbound.
16:23VRM when ready,
16:24if anyone's able
16:25to start making the way
16:25that way.
16:27Yeah, 2 o'clock.
16:27Just leaving the services
16:29now, all that's in progress.
16:3024 hours into
16:33a week-long campaign
16:34to disrupt
16:35organised road crime,
16:37forces across the region
16:39have so far responded
16:40to hundreds of reports.
16:44Spot a vehicle waiting
16:45to go.
16:45It's 3-9-0-1-1.
16:47Tip shop door.
16:48Stu, if you want,
16:49if I catch you up,
16:51and then I'll sit behind you
16:53unmarked
16:54to get everyone in.
16:57One of the biggest issues
16:58is gangs stealing
17:00from lorries,
17:01costing businesses
17:02millions each year.
17:05There's nearly 400
17:06active organised crime group
17:08members within
17:09the West Yorkshire area
17:10that are out there
17:11targeting HGVs
17:12on a daily basis,
17:14targeting motorway services,
17:16lay-bys,
17:17lorry parks.
17:19They'll look what's in it,
17:20and then obviously
17:20if it's something of interest,
17:22they then call up
17:22a stolen or clone lorry
17:24parked next to it
17:25so they can just ship
17:25stuff into it
17:26without being seen.
17:27In one night
17:29they can have
17:29£100,000 to £200,000
17:31worth of stock
17:32from a lorry
17:32and that's a good night's
17:33work for them.
17:36You know,
17:36which arterial routes
17:37to use depending
17:38on what stock
17:39they want to steal,
17:40and realistically
17:41nobody's safe
17:41at the moment.
17:44Operation Barrick
17:45is a multi-force
17:46initiative to combat
17:47this type of rogue crime.
17:50Most of the people
17:51that are involved
17:52in this sort of criminality
17:53are really nasty people
17:55that are willing
17:55to do anything
17:56to commit their crime
17:57and to get away.
17:58The worst possible scenario
17:59in HGV
18:00going the wrong way
18:01down the motorway.
18:02They'll carry weapons,
18:04they'll use the tools
18:04that they're using
18:05to do the job
18:06to injure other people,
18:07they'll throw them
18:07at police vehicles
18:08as they're pursuing them.
18:10Stoops, you've just
18:10ran me twice.
18:14We've got a confirmed
18:14spotter vehicle
18:15for one of the
18:18hot barrack lorries.
18:20Stu's just behind it
18:21now in front of us
18:22so we're going to
18:23catch up
18:23and take over
18:24from Stoops
18:24because we're in
18:25the unmarked vehicle
18:25and he's in a marked.
18:28Spotter vehicles
18:29identify HGVs
18:31for theft
18:31and then alert
18:32the carrier vehicle
18:33of their location.
18:36Have you passed
18:36the bottom of the entry
18:37slip yet?
18:39Yeah, I've got you, mate.
18:39That's fine.
18:41I'm in the state
18:41behind you, Chris.
18:452-4, mate.
18:452-4, mate.
18:47At 8 and 4-9,
18:48just to let you know
18:48I'm reporting car now.
18:49Vehicle speed
18:50is 7-0.
18:52There's no deviation,
18:53won't be aware
18:54of my presence.
18:55You're sure
18:55that's overseas.
18:56Yeah, I'm currently
18:57in the vehicle.
18:58I've got tactical
18:59options behind me.
19:00I've got enough
19:01units for a
19:03proactive box
19:04with a safety.
19:06Can we just inform
19:07South Yorkshire
19:07as well, please?
19:09Obviously, thank you.
19:11We see vehicle
19:12moves to lane 2,
19:14speed's still 7-0.
19:16Vehicle's committed,
19:17committed.
19:18Yeah, if we get
19:18moved up then,
19:19is everyone with me?
19:20Yes, yes.
19:21Move up, move up,
19:22move up.
19:25Box on, box on,
19:26box on.
19:41Get the key out.
19:42Keep your hands
19:42where I can see them.
19:43Keep your hands.
19:44You all right, boys?
19:45No, no.
19:46Put your hands together.
19:47All right, sit tight.
19:48Big boy's out,
19:49you know he.
19:50Been anywhere nice.
19:51You've picked me up,
19:52yeah.
19:52Have you?
19:53Yeah.
19:53Where from?
19:54Good.
19:55All right.
19:56Sit in there,
19:56I'm going to put my seat
19:57forward for you.
19:58No seatbelts on,
19:59it's going off.
20:01All the chaps in the
20:02vehicles are sat on top
20:03of the seatbelts,
20:03ready for a quick exit.
20:05Are you in the boot?
20:07Oh.
20:08Oh.
20:09Someone open them,
20:10just have a look
20:10how many people are.
20:11Where is it?
20:12Just that.
20:12Yeah, we've got one in the boot,
20:14see who we had, boy.
20:15Where did he come from?
20:19Take your damn, pal.
20:20What can you do, mate?
20:21Yeah, well,
20:22just sit tight for a second.
20:24No worries.
20:25Put your damn,
20:26put your damn,
20:26and you see your face.
20:28Let me see you.
20:29There, there's the face, look.
20:31You ever been in trouble
20:31with your place before?
20:32No, never.
20:33Never been arrested?
20:34Take a look.
20:35Why, in the boot?
20:36Well, I've just come for a drive.
20:37In the boot?
20:39At half past two in the morning.
20:41Six people.
20:42Who sat in my car?
20:44All right.
20:47So we've got a car
20:49that's possibly been linked
20:50to different vehicles.
20:54When we stopped it,
20:55there's five in the interior,
20:58and then we found one in the boot.
21:00Just came a bit of a surprise.
21:03They've got six in the vehicle.
21:04Apparently,
21:05you've gone for a ride for the night.
21:08Yeah.
21:09Because the potential
21:10that yourself and the vehicle
21:12have been involved
21:12in some criminality
21:13a bit further down
21:13the motorway earlier tonight.
21:15I'm going to be searching
21:15from section one of pace, okay?
21:16I'll do.
21:17Have you got anything
21:18in your pockets at all, mate?
21:19Some money.
21:19Some money.
21:21Spin round for us.
21:23Got any back pockets?
21:24I'll set your ice bun, mate.
21:31While Chris searches
21:32one of the six suspects,
21:34PC Stuart Smith
21:35talks to the man
21:36found hiding in the boot.
21:38What are you doing down here, then?
21:40I don't know.
21:41Picking your mate up
21:42from his cousins?
21:44Just one person?
21:46And you've all come down
21:47for the trade.
21:48Good.
21:49Well, we both know
21:50that's not true, don't we?
21:51What do you mean?
21:52I know what I mean.
21:53You know.
21:54You know what the crack is.
21:57It's a slippery slope.
22:01Doesn't appear to be
22:02anything blatantly obvious
22:03regarding any offences
22:06relating to a theft,
22:07but that's normally
22:08the way these were.
22:08These traps will be
22:09separate to the vehicle
22:10that carries all the goods.
22:13They'll be the ones
22:13that load it all
22:15into the lorry
22:16and then jump back in here
22:17on the way back
22:17to the north.
22:20You'll get a spotter vehicle
22:22that is completely legit.
22:23It's got the right documentation.
22:25The person that's driving it
22:26is all legal to do so.
22:27And when we stop them,
22:29there's nothing
22:29we can really do about it.
22:31We know they'll link to an OCG.
22:33We know they're going to
22:33continue to come out here
22:35and keep committing
22:36this sort of crime.
22:37It's just we need
22:38that occasion where
22:39we actually catch them
22:39in the act
22:40and catch them
22:41with some stolen goods on them
22:42and at that point
22:43we'll get sent to prison.
22:45I saw you
22:46all wearing matching clothes,
22:47ain't it?
22:47Yeah.
22:48All nice and dark.
22:49Yeah.
22:50Take it black's
22:52the fashion this year,
22:52is it?
22:53Yeah.
22:53What's the fashion?
22:54The legal's well black.
22:55Pardon?
22:56The legal?
22:56What, it's not?
22:57Say it's nice
22:58that you're matching.
22:59We're all the same.
22:59We're all the same.
23:00We're all out with it, mate.
23:01You're like
23:02the wrong direction,
23:03aren't you?
23:04Barrick Street boys.
23:05Yeah,
23:06Barrick Street boys.
23:07Oh,
23:07a nice driver
23:09all wearing matching clothing,
23:10hats,
23:12black coats,
23:12black trousers,
23:13black training,
23:14don't really think
23:14we're trying to blend
23:15into the nights.
23:16No,
23:16not suspicious at all.
23:19It's not the first rodeo
23:20and it definitely
23:20won't be the last
23:21and I'm pretty sure
23:23that we'll probably
23:23see them again
23:23in the near future.
23:25But for now,
23:26they've got no car,
23:27it's 40 miles.
23:29Walked back to Leeds
23:30for them
23:30or they're going to have
23:31to inconvenience somebody
23:32or a couple of people
23:34to get a lift bike.
23:36See you tomorrow.
23:37But you don't get run over
23:38because someone will come
23:38belt it.
23:39I'll tell you what,
23:40it's pretty big enough.
23:41The best.
23:42Just because of the show
23:43doesn't it,
23:43when you put this
23:44many out of us,
23:45I thought,
23:45well,
23:45I'll add their booze
23:46completely unknown.
23:47I said,
23:48all right,
23:48you're getting in,
23:49you're learning the ropes,
23:50are you?
23:50Yeah.
23:50You don't work experience.
23:51Start talking,
23:52do it right away.
23:52I'm just going to see.
23:53Yeah, that's it,
23:54that's where you start.
23:55They know that we know
23:56what they're up to.
23:58We're not daft,
23:58we know we're not
23:59going to stop them,
24:00but if we can disrupt them
24:01and take a few vehicles
24:03off and get some arrests,
24:04it's all good.
24:05It's observations
24:22for a cloned vehicle,
24:24genuine vehicles
24:25active in the
24:26South Yorkshire area.
24:27A clone appears
24:28to be in the Derby area.
24:32It's the second night
24:34of Op Fuego.
24:35And officers are still
24:36out in force
24:37across the region.
24:40When we have Op Fuego
24:41running,
24:42we have the resources
24:43of four or five
24:45different police forces
24:45in the East Midlands
24:46all the way up to Yorkshire.
24:48Because these criminals
24:49will travel all the way
24:50down as far as London,
24:52once we've identified
24:53that vehicle,
24:54we know when it's
24:54coming back up
24:55and we can target
24:57those suspect vehicles.
24:58And the more people
24:59you've got on the ground,
25:00the more you see
25:00and we get a lot
25:01more results.
25:04At 8.049,
25:05I believe I'm behind
25:06the clone vehicles
25:07we're looking at.
25:08Currently
25:08towards City.
25:1125.
25:13In Derby,
25:14a wanted vehicle
25:15has been detected
25:16by police cameras.
25:18Let them know
25:19717,
25:20where you go,
25:21they're behind a clone.
25:22Let it tangle to
25:23and we've approached
25:23your Pentagon,
25:24marked high performance
25:25vehicle authorities.
25:27Yeah, 24.
25:29PC Matthew Cork
25:30heads towards
25:31Chris's location.
25:33So we're just going to
25:34make our way to the area
25:34as quick as we can
25:35should we be needed
25:37to assist in stopping
25:38this vehicle.
25:40Just at the light
25:41structure in Douglas Street,
25:43San Marford Direction.
25:45It's continuing
25:46towards City Centre.
25:49Vehicle's been driven
25:49normally.
25:51I'm already aware
25:52of this car
25:53from the briefing.
25:53I know that this vehicle
25:54has been driving around
25:55on clone plates
25:56for a few days.
25:57So I'm considering
25:58what are they willing
25:59to do to get away
26:00because people
26:01can be quite violent
26:02and they're generally
26:03outtooled up
26:04and willing to hurt people.
26:06So right, right, right.
26:28Don't believe vehicles
26:29were my presence as yet
26:30as I'm an unmarked vehicle.
26:31Just coming up to the
26:32junction with London Road.
26:34It's 24 hours into
26:35Opfuego.
26:37A week-long campaign
26:38to crack down
26:39on road crime
26:40and officers have made
26:42several arrests
26:43across the region.
26:46And this is a
26:47left, left, left
26:48towards City
26:49on London Road.
26:50It's about to go
26:51right, right, right
26:52onto Trinity Street.
26:53Stand by.
26:53He's probably going
26:54to test me now.
26:56Vehicle's a
26:57near side indication
26:58to go onto Traffic Street
26:59back up towards
27:00Barra Craft Way.
27:02I believe it will
27:03have just tested me
27:04on those routes
27:04as it's quite
27:05resort the route
27:06it's taken.
27:07And it is a
27:08left, left, left.
27:09In Derby,
27:10Chris is in pursuit
27:11of a wanted car
27:12on cloned plates.
27:15Continuing past
27:16the petrol station
27:17to the near side,
27:18it's lane 2 of 3.
27:20And it's a near side
27:21indication.
27:22Puts it in
27:23lane 1 of 3.
27:26Get a stinger ready
27:27to do if you can.
27:27It's held at red 80s,
27:29near side indication.
27:30Vehicle probably
27:31is aware of my presence
27:32now.
27:32March through the sequence.
27:36Vehicle is stalled.
27:40Stand by.
27:44Vehicle's stalled again.
27:49Vehicle is now
27:50left, left, left.
27:52The main risk element
27:54in stopping a vehicle
27:55like this is,
27:56is it going to cause
27:57an accident?
27:57Is it going to hurt
27:58somebody or worse?
27:59And that's the first
28:01thing I have to consider.
28:02How can I stop
28:03this vehicle safely
28:04without causing a pursuit?
28:05And the main thing
28:06I can do is get
28:07as many resources
28:07in the area
28:08and hopefully
28:09get this vehicle
28:10boxed in.
28:11Matt joins Chris
28:12in the pursuit.
28:142-8, I'm with you.
28:16Yeah, I got you, mate.
28:17I think he saw you
28:18at the junction
28:19potentially.
28:20He's stalked it
28:21several times
28:21so he's obviously
28:22panicking.
28:242-4, we're held
28:25at the lights.
28:26If you want to go
28:26for a pre-emptive
28:27now...
28:28Corky.
28:31Is he, er...
28:32All right.
28:33Hold still.
28:34Vehicle's now
28:35failing to stop,
28:36failing to stop.
28:37Pre-emptive failed.
28:40Speed increases
28:41to 6-0.
28:43Quoting the traffic lights,
28:45it's gone wrong
28:46side of the road.
28:47The RA's temporarily
28:48high.
28:49Back to the correct
28:50side.
28:51Back to the opposite
28:52side.
28:52It's overtaking
28:54other vehicles
28:54coming up to a red
28:55ATS.
28:56Standby.
28:56DRE's temporarily
28:57high as we go
28:58through the red
28:58ATS.
28:59On the wrong
28:59side of the road
29:00and it's on to a
29:01green ATS.
29:02Back to the correct
29:02side.
29:03The right, right,
29:04right and speed
29:05is 5-0 and increasing.
29:11It's a left, left,
29:12left.
29:12It's over the speed
29:13bumps.
29:14It's a right, right,
29:14right at the end.
29:22Just plain catch-up
29:23because of the speed
29:23bumps.
29:25Vehicle's in the
29:27distance, speed's
29:27approximately 6-0.
29:29It's in the distance,
29:30stand by.
29:33I believe it's a
29:34decamp decamp.
29:37Looks like four of
29:38decamp from vehicle.
29:47I don't see, mate.
29:49You go right.
29:50I've got no visual at all.
29:55No visual of persons
29:56anywhere.
29:59Can we get area
30:00searched?
30:02We should have a
30:03containment down to the
30:06next roundabout and I'll
30:07look at getting the drone
30:08up to Tech Gardens.
30:10Believe they'll have run
30:11straight on.
30:114-0-1, yes, yes.
30:14We'll get up to local and
30:15ask them to head towards
30:16your direction.
30:19Close your hands.
30:20Close your hands now.
30:21Take your hands out.
30:232-8.
30:24I've got one detained.
30:28Ultimately, mate, we've had a
30:29car where some lads have run
30:30off.
30:30All right.
30:32So at the minute, you're
30:32detained until we can figure out
30:33why you're here.
30:34You might have just been in the
30:34wrong place at the wrong time.
30:35Obviously, you're nice and
30:38chilled, which is good.
30:39It means we can get to the
30:39bottom of it.
30:40All right.
30:40Have you ever been known to
30:41the police before?
30:42What are you doing here at
30:43the minute?
30:44Where are you walking from?
30:46I'll go to the gym.
30:47What do you do in the gym?
30:48Weights?
30:48Running?
30:49Me too.
30:50Yeah.
30:50Where's your kit?
30:51I don't have my kit.
30:53You don't have your kit?
30:53I've got my membership if you
30:55want to see those.
30:55We just need to verify who
30:56you are.
30:57Sure.
30:58And then as soon as we're
30:59kind of satisfied.
31:00What I'm looking for is
31:02items relating to theft of a
31:03motor vehicle.
31:03Okay.
31:04All right.
31:04Hopefully, this will all be
31:05straightforward.
31:06You'll be on your way.
31:07It'll be a funky story to
31:08tell all your mates.
31:09Sound.
31:09Right then.
31:11Could I have a picture like
31:12this first?
31:12What, like this?
31:13Yeah.
31:14What do you want me like
31:14this for?
31:15I've never been caught like
31:15this.
31:16Well, hopefully, you'll never
31:17get caught like this again,
31:18eh?
31:18Yeah.
31:18I think that.
31:22Can you get me a recovery,
31:24please?
31:24This vehicle, it's still
31:25running.
31:25I think it might be keyless,
31:26though, so I'm not sure if it's
31:27with keys, but it's still
31:28running.
31:29I'm just going to check the
31:30VIN and then we'll get the
31:31drone up.
31:32I believe this is a stolen vehicle.
31:34It's been put on clone plates.
31:36The vehicle was stolen a few
31:38days back.
31:39We get quite a few reports of
31:41people stealing number plates
31:43from cars and the main reason
31:44that they do that is because
31:45they want to stick them on a
31:46like-for-like car and clone
31:48that vehicle because they're
31:49going to go out there,
31:50commit some crime, swap the
31:51number plates and do it all
31:52again.
31:53And unfortunately, that's
31:54happening all too often.
32:01Can you just lift your arms
32:02up for us?
32:03There you go.
32:03Hold them up.
32:04Oh, you'll be all right if
32:05you've been doing your
32:06weights tonight, won't you?
32:07Yeah.
32:08Founding that one, nothing
32:09else.
32:11Earbud's case.
32:12Super.
32:14Grand.
32:15Right then.
32:15So do you, when you go to
32:16the gym, do you swipe in?
32:18Um, there's a barcode in the
32:20app, you know, you just
32:21scan them.
32:21So if we went there now, they'd
32:23verify that you've swiped in
32:25today?
32:25Yeah.
32:26Yeah.
32:26Yeah.
32:26Yeah.
32:26It's not my noggin I use.
32:28It's also still safe.
32:29Oh.
32:29Oh.
32:29You might, you might lose your
32:32membership.
32:32That's all right.
32:34Well, no, we don't need to tell
32:35him that.
32:36We'll just, he's very fine.
32:38Hey.
32:40There's loads of people looking
32:41around in all ways because
32:42obviously Jim's there.
32:43but to look at in the immediate
32:44gardens where realistically they
32:47would have run in initially to
32:48hide as we've approached, there's
32:51no heat signatures at all.
32:53So I can only imagine that
32:55they've gone probably straight
32:56onto the main roads.
32:58They're probably going to be on
32:59the phone to somebody to come
33:00and pick them up.
33:04Oh, perfect.
33:05Yeah.
33:05That fits.
33:06Standing at 19.18.
33:08It's only past seven.
33:11At the minute, it would
33:12certainly seem like it was the
33:14case of wrong place, wrong
33:15time.
33:15But credit to you for
33:16remaining chilled out and being
33:18very helpful with us, to be
33:20honest.
33:20I'll give you a lift then.
33:21How about that?
33:22All right?
33:23Sound.
33:24Yeah.
33:29While units search the area,
33:31John's retrieved some CCTV
33:33showing the suspects abandoning
33:35the stolen vehicle.
33:39So that's in the three-quarter
33:41coat on.
33:42Yeah.
33:43That's two grey-hudded top,
33:47black jacket, grey joggers.
33:49He's just a blur.
33:50All right.
33:51Driver.
33:53Yeah, he's quite a big use.
33:54He's a big lad.
33:55Mm.
33:56So he's got no gloves on and
33:58he's touched that driver's door.
33:59Has he?
34:00Yeah.
34:01Oh, good lad.
34:03Literally where the door handle
34:04is.
34:05Yeah.
34:05Has he pushed it?
34:06Yeah.
34:07We'll hopefully get forensics
34:08from the vehicle.
34:09The CCTV quite clearly shows
34:11the driver getting out with no
34:12gloves on and he touches the
34:14driver's door to go to shut it.
34:16So there's every chance we're going to
34:18get some fingerprints off that
34:19and that'll be absolutely vital
34:20because it's nailed on then.
34:22We know who he is.
34:23Look at the CCTV.
34:24He's quite a big chap,
34:25so he's quite distinctive as well.
34:27There's nothing better than DNA
34:29and CCTV combined.
34:31And it'll put them perfectly
34:32in that driver's seat.
34:50It's another possible
34:51clone mate that we've put on.
34:54An Aos Katango 4-9.
34:58Go ahead.
34:59If there's any stinger units
35:01in SWAT,
35:01can they monitor channel 3,
35:03please,
35:04interop 2,
35:04channel 3,
35:05behind a clone vehicle
35:07coming through clay mills.
35:10Less than two hours
35:11after the pursuit
35:12of a stolen car
35:13on cloned plates
35:14during a week-long
35:16road crime crackdown.
35:18You can monitor channel 3,
35:19it's interop 2,
35:20we've got an operation on.
35:21Our unit's giving
35:22commentary now.
35:25Officers are tracking
35:26another suspected clone vehicle.
35:29Yeah,
35:30one echo
35:31and one kilo
35:32musting are on board.
35:35We've got another unit
35:36to be on cloned plates.
35:38Organised crime groups
35:39use cloned plates
35:40to hide their tracks
35:42whilst transporting drugs,
35:44cash,
35:44and stolen vehicles.
35:45It makes our job
35:48a little bit more difficult
35:48but at the same time
35:50we've got a lot
35:51of technology now
35:51that's on our side
35:52with different
35:53AMPR systems
35:54and through experience
35:56we're quite good
35:57at spotting these vehicles
35:59so combining our experience
36:00with new technology
36:01it's really helping us
36:03to fight this challenge.
36:05Hangar 3-9,
36:05I'm just resuming
36:06from a job A-38.
36:07I'll start travelling.
36:08PC Lee Ridley
36:11heads to assist.
36:20We're just coming up
36:21to Y past Stu.
36:24It's a clone site
36:24at Leon
36:25that's been hitting up
36:26all night.
36:28Stu's behind it.
36:30Just coming up
36:31to the next exit
36:33on this road.
36:33Potentially going to do
36:36some side things.
36:42Hangar 3-9,
36:43I'm with you.
36:43High performance,
36:44smart vehicle,
36:45pursuit management,
36:46T-pack train.
36:47Right,
36:48a sprint pass.
36:50Yeah,
36:50four against,
36:50one of four here.
36:56Outside,
36:57front.
36:58He's out.
36:59One take time,
37:00you're in.
37:02Okay.
37:03Yep,
37:053-9 to the rear.
37:08Move up,
37:08move up,
37:09move up.
37:20Hangar in there what?
37:25Keep your hands
37:25where I can see them.
37:26Keep your hands
37:26where I can see them.
37:27Stay where you are.
37:29Just going to put
37:29handcuffs on you
37:30just for your safety
37:31and for mine
37:31so we verify
37:32who you are
37:33and what you're
37:33doing in the vehicle,
37:34okay?
37:36Vehicle's three up
37:37and I,
37:37we're all
37:38occupants detained.
37:39Right,
37:39jump out for me.
37:41Just jump out for me.
37:46Got anything on you
37:47that you shouldn't have?
37:48No.
37:48No?
37:49What are you doing
37:50in the vehicle?
37:51Just getting the lift,
37:52man.
37:52Just getting the lift,
37:53where from?
37:54Darby, man.
37:55Another clown vehicle.
37:56Earlier on,
37:58when we've seen
37:58this vehicle active,
38:00we worked out
38:00that the genuine
38:01comes back to
38:02the South Yorkshire area
38:03and all the
38:04ANPR activity
38:05over the last couple
38:06of nights
38:06has been in
38:06South Yorkshire
38:07and tonight
38:08it's made
38:09what we call
38:09an impossible journey
38:10where basically
38:11it's hit up
38:12in South Yorkshire
38:13and then it's
38:14hit up in Derby
38:14in what would be
38:16an impossible amount
38:16of time
38:17between the two reeds.
38:18So, given that,
38:20then we're quite certain
38:20that it's going
38:21to be the cloned vehicle.
38:23We don't blow away.
38:24While the driver's detained,
38:26officers search the passengers.
38:29Stand there,
38:30I'm just going to
38:30get your pat down.
38:31You got anything new?
38:33Little pocket.
38:33Oh, wow.
38:35Just come down
38:35towards my car.
38:37So, we suspect
38:38that the vehicle is cloned
38:39so that means
38:40running on false plates.
38:41Before I put you
38:42in that car,
38:43have you got anything
38:43on you that you shouldn't have?
38:44Anything sharp
38:45that's going to hurt
38:46you or me?
38:46Anything illegal
38:48drugs-wise?
38:49No, nothing.
38:52So, what I'm going to do
38:52before I put you
38:53in the car
38:53is you are going
38:54to be searched.
38:55That's for my safety
38:56and for yours.
38:58What have you got
39:00on property-wise?
39:01Nothing really.
39:02Nothing really?
39:03What do you mean by it?
39:04Just my phone.
39:05Just try and help me out
39:06with what you have
39:06got in your pocket.
39:07Just a phone.
39:08Just a phone.
39:11So, I'm just going to
39:12put all your property
39:12on the roof.
39:13Right.
39:15Just got a weed
39:16grinder there.
39:16You got what,
39:17sorry?
39:17He's grinder.
39:19The grinder?
39:19Need a property
39:20on the door.
39:22Number plates.
39:22Oh, very good.
39:25I know your tango
39:26phone on you.
39:27Just run me another
39:28set of plates to
39:28in the back of this
39:29car, please.
39:30Who's at plates
39:31in the bike?
39:32One.
39:32The number plates
39:33that are in them
39:33packages.
39:34No.
39:34Nothing to do with you.
39:36Hmm.
39:37I know your tango
39:38three train.
39:39I bet they're not.
39:41There's some
39:41fresh number plates
39:42in the back of the car
39:43which have clearly
39:43just been made up,
39:44come back to a
39:45Peugeot vehicle
39:46registered up
39:47in the Lincolnshire
39:48area.
39:48So, it's quite bizarre
39:49why they've got them
39:50in the back of the
39:51vehicle.
39:51And so, given the
39:52fact that this is
39:53running around on
39:53clone plates,
39:54there's every chance
39:54that they're going
39:54to stick those on
39:55another vehicle
39:57and clone that.
39:58This one doesn't
39:59come back as stolen
40:00but it has come
40:01back as in trade
40:02with no document.
40:03So, it looks
40:04really like someone's
40:05probably obtained it
40:06for quite cheap.
40:08They didn't want
40:08to insure it
40:09and they're probably
40:09doing some of the
40:10odd little bits
40:12in it that they
40:12shouldn't be doing.
40:13So, they've just stuck
40:13some clone plates on.
40:16It's quite difficult
40:16to tell with this
40:17particular stop.
40:18Are they big time
40:19criminals?
40:20Are they just
40:21three mates
40:21that are doing
40:22something a bit silly
40:23and just trying to
40:24get away with it?
40:25Or are they driving
40:25around buying vehicles,
40:27cloning them
40:27and selling them
40:28and selling them
40:28on for money?
40:29I'm just going to
40:30establish what
40:30crack is, mate,
40:31with this car.
40:32Obviously,
40:32come in with us
40:33because you've got
40:34no licence
40:34but it's without
40:35and there's no
40:36insurance on it
40:37for yourself.
40:39It's bearing
40:39clone plates.
40:41I don't know.
40:42I don't know.
40:42I just bought the
40:44coins.
40:44I drove it.
40:45That's it.
40:46I don't know
40:47nothing about it.
40:47I don't know
40:48how to please.
40:48I think he's on bail
40:49as well for drug
40:50drive looking at it.
40:51Have you had anything
40:52tonight?
40:52I've had it
40:53just to join
40:54earlier on.
40:54I'm just going
40:56to drug swipe
40:56the driver
40:57because he's
40:57admitted to having
40:58a joint earlier
40:59on and there's
40:59a bit of a
41:00faint whiff of
41:00cannabis
41:01knocking around
41:02that vehicle.
41:03Right.
41:03Sit your tongue
41:04out for me.
41:07Okay, so this
41:08takes up to
41:08eight minutes
41:09to work.
41:09Alright.
41:10I'm going to
41:11stick this on
41:12top of here now
41:12and leave it
41:13level.
41:15And I'll keep
41:15checking it
41:16in between.
41:16Alright?
41:19Obviously,
41:20if it comes back
41:20positive,
41:21the chap will
41:21be arrested.
41:22If it comes
41:24back negative
41:25then it's going
41:25to be dealt
41:26with for the
41:26traffic offences
41:27he's already
41:27got a remote
41:27license anyway
41:28so from the
41:29sounds of it
41:29he's going to
41:30probably get
41:30completely
41:31disqualified.
41:32It's not
41:32really worked
41:32that well
41:33has it?
41:34The calibration
41:35lines have
41:35come up
41:35but I can't
41:37see it.
41:38I can't see
41:39anything.
41:39Negative,
41:40innit?
41:40It's not a
41:41red line,
41:41is it?
41:42The drug
41:42swipe's come
41:43back negative
41:43which is
41:44surprising
41:44given the fact
41:45he said
41:45that he's
41:46had a joint
41:47so he needs
41:48to go and
41:48have a word
41:49with his
41:49dealer.
41:50We're going
41:50to seize the
41:51vehicle anyway.
41:51If you hang
41:52about for
41:53five minutes
41:53we're going
41:53to give you
41:53some paperwork
41:54and then if
41:56you want to
41:56get the
41:56vehicle back
41:57legitimately
41:57you're going
41:58to have
41:58to find
41:58all the
41:59documentation
41:59for the
42:00legit
42:00reg and
42:01everything.
42:05I know
42:06Tango 49
42:07Borough's
42:07Estate 6.
42:09While Chris
42:09gets the
42:10uninsured car
42:11recovered
42:11the men
42:12are sent
42:13on their
42:13way.
42:14Now he's
42:14on our
42:14radar
42:15there's
42:15every chance
42:15that if he
42:16continues to
42:17drive around
42:18in cloned
42:18vehicles
42:19or be linked
42:19to any
42:19sort of
42:20criminality
42:20that I'm
42:21going to
42:21catch up
42:21with him
42:21again.
42:24Just 36
42:25hours into
42:26Operation
42:27Fuego
42:27police across
42:29Yorkshire and
42:29the East
42:30Midlands
42:30have made
42:31over a dozen
42:32arrests
42:32and recovered
42:34ten stolen
42:35vehicles.
42:38You've got to
42:39keep finding
42:39different ways
42:40of tackling
42:41this criminality
42:41and
42:42Fuego
42:43is a very
42:43important
42:44operation
42:44for us
42:45to try
42:45and tackle
42:45that
42:46use the
42:46resources
42:46that we've
42:47got across
42:47the region
42:48and make
42:48sure that
42:49these criminals
42:49know that
42:50they're going
42:50to get
42:50stopped
42:51they're going
42:51to get
42:51caught
42:52and eventually
42:52we will
42:53send them
42:53to prison.
42:55When we
42:55deploy we
42:56want results
42:56whether that's
42:57a normal duty
42:58day or
42:59this big
43:00operation that
43:01is
43:01Opfuego
43:01but obviously
43:02Opfuego
43:03ramps that up
43:04we put a lot
43:05of resources
43:06together
43:06and get the
43:07results.
43:08Is the
43:08pressure on
43:08to deliver?
43:09Of course
43:10there is
43:10but when we
43:11all come
43:11together
43:12and all the
43:12forces
43:12come together
43:13it is
43:14genuinely
43:15a big
43:15success.
43:16In this
43:20episode
43:21Vehicles
