00:00In the Middle East, despite agreements for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel,
00:14the number of Palestinian deaths rose to more than 67,000 due to the sound integration in Gaza.
00:19The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers shut a woman during
00:27mobilization for migrants' rights in Illinois.
00:34In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum closes her first government report at Mexico's Zócalos,
00:40with thousands gathered highlighting the social progress of the country.
00:48Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Delecelo Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
01:11Pro-Palestinian activists arrested while attempting to reach the Gaza Strip, return to their countries of origin,
01:16and denounce the ill-treatment they received from the Israeli army,
01:19accusations that Benjamin Tanyahu governments denied.
01:22At least 450 activists were arrested when Israeli forces intercepted the close to Muslotilla,
01:27comprising 42 ships attempting to break Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip
01:32and deliver a symbolic amount of aid to Palestinian territory.
01:36Upon their return, on Saturday, the detainees stated that Israeli soldiers confiscated messes and mistreated the prisoners.
01:44The arrest of the activists comes amidst efforts to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
01:51Unfortunately, the Israeli police, Israeli prison guards, and the Israeli defense forces, in my opinion, used truly Nazi methods.
02:05I cannot define them any other way.
02:08They kept us in the van, the bus that was transporting US, for five hours.
02:13Tied up with plastic straps, two of us crammed into a 120 by 80 centimeter container.
02:20Constant stress and humiliation.
02:23They forced us to remain on our knees for four hours.
02:26I returned from prison with only a pair of flip-flops and a t-shirt.
02:31Everything else was stolen by the Israelis.
02:33All my luggage, which contained a lot of money, was stolen.
02:38During the two nights we spent in prison, we were subjected to all kinds of humiliation.
02:43There are 300 people, including 15 Italians, who are still there.
02:49The last thing we heard before leaving that country was that they still had 15 days of detention left.
02:56In the Middle East, despite agreements for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel,
02:59the number of Palestinian deaths has risen to more than 67,000 due to signing segregation in the Gaza Strip.
03:06Health authorities reported that at least 67,139 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October of 2023.
03:14They warned that several victims remained trapped on the rubble, while ambulances and civilian personnel are having difficulty reaching them.
03:21They also warned that the death toll could increase in the next few hours.
03:25In Lebanon, Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qasem warned that the U.S. plan for Gaza, presented by President Donald Trump,
03:39is a dangerous project aligned with Israel's interests.
03:42During a speech commemorating the first anniversary of the martyrdom of leaders,
03:45Qasem pointed that the proposal coincides with the five strategic principles defined by Israel to end the attacks on Palestine,
03:53discriminating as an Israeli plan with a U.S. appearance.
03:56Qasem asserted that the timing of the proposal's presentation seeks to exonerate Israel in the eyes of international public opinion for its crimes in Gaza,
04:04shifting their responsibility to other actors.
04:07The Egyptian government will host a new round of talks on the exchange of prisoners between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas.
04:19The authorities reported on the preparations for the dialogue following the progress made in the last few hours between Israel and Hamas.
04:27They also stated that they are working actively with all parties to create an environment that would allow for the implementation of an exchange agreement.
04:35Cairo specified that the objective of the first phase is to negotiate the exchange of prisoners and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip.
04:50Many Israeli settlers protested in the streets of the Kabul of Tel Aviv this Saturday calling for the release of Israeli hostages amidst the alleged peace plan presented by U.S. President Donald Trump.
05:00Participants demanded an end to the war in Gaza, a term Israeli public opinion uses to ignore the genocide of Palestinians by Zionist forces,
05:08which has left more than 67,000 people dead.
05:11Protesters expressed their support for the U.S. President Donald Trump, claiming his administration had secured the release of Israeli hostages who they said had been victims of the actions of their own military.
05:21Let us remember that the Palestinian movement Hamas is willing to release the detainees and negotiate with Israel on the basis of Palestinian territorial sovereignty, an aspect that Trump's peace plan ignores.
05:32In Tunisia, thousands took part in a large public demonstration to demand the release of activists from the Global Sumut Flotilla arrested by Israeli soldiers.
05:44The massive demonstration took place in the streets of the capital.
05:47Participants waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian resistance.
05:53At the same time, they urged the Tunisian government to put pressure on Israel to release all humanitarian activists detained after the assault on the humanitarian flotilla.
06:02Tunisia joins the Global Day of Action to condemn the Israeli government's practices against international initiatives, genocide and famine imposed on the Gaza Strip.
06:11Meanwhile, in Portugal, another demonstration took place calling for the immediate release of activists detained by the Salinas regime after intercepting the ships carrying humanitarian aid.
06:25Among the participants in the mission to Gaza are four Portuguese citizens, including Mariana Mortagua, leader and member of parliament of the Left Bloc Party.
06:33When moved to Ireland, thousands also gathered in the center of Dublin to denounce the assault on the Global Sumut Flotilla and demand an end to hostilities.
06:46Protesters' discontent was erected, especially the international community, with strong criticism of the United States and the European Union for their inaction in the face of the crisis.
06:57And social organizations, students and academics from Bolivia gathered in the city of La Paz to condemn the acts committed by Israeli forces against the Global Sumut Flotilla.
07:12Protesters condemned the events that took place between October 2nd and the 3rd when the Salinas regime intercepted and apprehended all members of the flotilla in international waters.
07:22This brutal action was directed against more than 400 unarmed activists from 44 countries who are transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza.
07:31Currently, the activists are in prison after being arrested by the Israel regime, while several countries denounce such violations.
07:37In Russia, the growing threat of drone attacks by Ukraine is causing interruptions to basic services in the city of Sochi.
07:56According to reports, the outages are reported to occur between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. bubble time, with even greater impact depending on weather conditions,
08:05which makes travel and work difficult.
08:08These events are taking place amidst an increase in Ukrainian attacks against Russian territory, targeting different facilities and power plants.
08:16These issues are exacerbated by security issues.
08:19Despite fears of drones and helicopters, most Russian terrorists continue to flood the city, enjoying the surrounding beaches and mountains.

09:00Welcome back.
09:01In the United States, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers shot a woman during civil
09:05protests in front of the Illinois ICE facilities.
09:08The protest in front of the ICE facilities was violently dispersed by police officers,
09:12evidence of the criminalization of the fight for migrants.
09:16The mobilization occurred in the context of the controversial Operation Midway Blitz,
09:20a federal campaign that has recorded over 900 detentions.
09:23The operation has not only been criticized for illegal detentions but also fuels the conflict
09:28between local inclusion policies and the federal agenda that responds to the hate-filled rhetoric
09:34driven by the Trump administration.
09:41And in Georgia, at least 27 people were injured after opposition protesters stormed the president's
09:46residence on Saturday.
09:48Among the injured were six protesters and 21 police officers.
09:51During this incident, the police used water cannons and fire tear gas canisters to secure
09:55the area, after the Ministry of the Interior warned that the demonstration exceeded the
09:59rules imposed by the law on peaceful demonstrations.
10:03These protests are taking place amidst the elections for mayors and members of municipal assemblies,
10:08mainly led by pro-Western movements.
10:10In this regard, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobadjitse blamed the European Union for contributing
10:16to the unrest in the country and for attempting to overthrow the government.
10:22a far-right multi-millionaire and former Prime Minister Andrzej Bevis, an outspoken supporter
10:32for Trump, won the Czech Republic's legislative elections on Friday and Saturday, October 3rd and
10:37the 4th.
10:38The far-right president will have to seek external support from other parties as he does not have
10:42a sufficient majority to govern.
10:44The 71-year-old Tycoon was Prime Minister from 2017 to 2021, a Minister of Finance for the
10:51four years prior to that term.
10:52If his victory results in a new government, it opens up the prospect of a strengthening of
10:56the populist axis in Europe.
10:58Eight million voters were called to oppose to elect the 200 members of the lower house,
11:03with a total of 26 parties and coalitions competing.
11:12And in Peru, citizens demonstrated once again against the government of Dina Boluarte and
11:16threats from Congress.
11:18During the demobilizations, the participants demanded structural changes in the governance model
11:23and denounce what they consider an institutional and representational crisis.
11:28For its part, the National Association of Journalists rejected threats from Congress and condemned
11:33the aggression against communicators in protest against the Peruvian government.
11:38Demonstration are a response to an increasing of insecurity and criminality in the country,
11:43as well as to questions about the political legitimacy of Boluarte, whom various sectors accused
11:48of maintaining links with figures from the Peruvian political past, as the far-right-wing
11:52Keiko Fujimori linked to corruption cases.
12:01Ecuadorian President Daniel Lobo signed a new state of emergency for 60 days in at least
12:0510 provinces.
12:07As of this Saturday, a state of emergency was declared for the regions of Pichincha,
12:10Cotopaxi, Chimborazo and other nearby areas amid social protests against the national government.
12:16The Ecuadorian President justified the measure after stating that in the 10 regions there are social events
12:21that disturb public order, for which reason he also suspended freedom of assembly for these provinces.
12:27For other part, indigenous movements are calling for a national strike in protest against the increase in diesel prices
12:32and the elimination of subsidies.
12:34And on Sunday at Havana's Revolution Palace, workers from the Presidency, Council of Ministers and Central Committee
12:48joined a citywide cleanup effort to improve the capital's hygiene and beauty.
12:52President Miguel Diaz-Canel called for action against passivity, urging solutions to make Havana cleaner, more orderly and functional.
13:00Alongside top government and party officials, young people, workers and citizens participate in this collective sanitation.
13:07The campaign aims for sustainability and continued improvement amid challenges in water and electricity supply.
13:13Citizens expressed pride and responsibility emphasizing how such efforts build community spirit and belonging,
13:19underlining the ongoing need for systematic care to keep Havana thriving.
13:23There is a national call to action, and the population has responded.
13:33I believe people have acted responsibly, especially due to their dissatisfaction with the situation we were living through and becoming accustomed to.
13:40Life shows that issues like these can be resolved through operations like this, even amid the most complex circumstances.
13:47Although we made a strong effort over the weekend, we won't solve everything in just a few days.
13:53The work must continue through this week, focusing especially on what concerns people most.
13:57People have already seen a reaction. How will this be sustained? We will sustain it if we all work this way.
14:03Every day, we must systematize what can be done daily and from time to time, conduct exercises like this.
14:09The election campaign in Argentina is affected by a scandal involving a deputy candidate for President Javier Millet's party,
14:17Freedom Advances, Jose Luis Esper, as he confessed to having received a transfer of $200,000 from Federico Fred Machado.
14:24Machado is an imprisoned businessman awaiting an extradition to the U.S. for alleged drug trafficking,
14:30after judicial evidence revealed the transaction in 2020.
14:33The scandal could affect the far-right's chances in the October 26th legislative elections in Buenos Aires,
14:39a key district for President Millet.
14:41Despite the seriousness of the evidence, President Millet opted for total and public support for experts.
14:46We now have our second and final short break coming up.

15:36Welcome back.
15:37President Claudia Sheinbaum closes her first government report at Mexico's Zocalo with thousands gathered,
15:42highlighting social progress, infrastructure reforms, and a vision for democracy.
15:47Sheinbaum reported major infrastructure advancements, including 1.7 million passengers transported on the Maya train
15:52and 15 million arrivals at Felipe Angeles Airport.
15:56Reform social judicial elections by citizens and the integration of the National Guard to the Defense Ministry aimed to strengthen democracy.
16:03Social programs reached 82 percent of households cutting poverty from 45 percent in 2018 to 29 percent.
16:10She praised Mexico's democracy, rejecting repression and censorship,
16:14and emphasized a collective government project based on social justice, dignity, and humanism.
16:20And that was the face of injustice, of corruption, and of privileges.
16:36That was the reality that the fourth transformation inherited, and that is the reality that we decided to change.
16:45And look what we have done.
16:47Instead of that 45 percent of people in poverty, today we have a 29 percent.
17:02Of course, it means we have to continue working to make sure that no one in Mexico is ever part of that percentage.
17:11But I'm sure we have taken the right path.
17:14That feat, described already in our national history between 2018 and 2024,
17:2413.5 million Mexicans left poverty.
17:37The Mexican press also highlighted the achievements made in health care.
17:39On Monday, October 6, the first and only supermoon of 2025, called Harvest Moon, will appear larger and more golden than usual.
18:04It is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere.
18:11It often looks warmer in color, appearing orange or amber as it rises through Earth's atmosphere.
18:17Astronomers say the event will be visible across the globe because it's occurring at full moon, as long as the skies are clear.
18:25For centuries, it provided farmers with extra light to gather crops before the nights grew longer.
18:31The Harvest Supermoon also coincides with the draconic meteor shower, though the moon's brightness is likely to make it the faint shooting stars harder to see.
18:44The next supermoon occurs October 6, and it will be visible everywhere around the world because it's occurring at full moon.
18:54And since the whole planet will be able to see full moon, everyone will be able to experience this supermoon event, as long as the sky is clear.
19:04After years of restoration work, the tomb of Pharaoh Emetop III, one of the largest in the valley of the kings and queens in southern Egypt, was officially inaugurated.
19:14Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquity Shari Fathi presented the newly restored tomb, which dates back more than 3,000 years, to the media.
19:24For its part, the Regional Directorate of UNESCO stated that 260 specialists from researchers and conservationists
19:30to highly qualified technicians worked on the restoration for 20 years.
19:47In 1799, during Napoleon's short occupation of Egypt, the site was recorded for the first time.
19:52After a long series of excavations, thefts and serious damage, the tomb was restored with the collaboration of the Japanese government and UNESCO.

20:22The 38th festival exhibits curated flower beds spanning 8,000 square meters, all crafted to reflect the theme for this edition, science and nature.
