00:00Well, we got to talk a little Philadelphia Eagles.
00:02You and I were able to talk a little during the week
00:03about everything surrounding Philly.
00:05More comes out over the weekend that apparently A.J. Brown,
00:08not the only frustrated wide receiver,
00:11maybe Devonta Smith is a little frustrated as well.
00:15Can you give us the latest around this Eagles group?
00:18Yeah, so here's the reality and the truth.
00:21So last year, Kevin, you know as being an Eagles fan,
00:23they were super high run centric, and it worked.
00:24It got them to a Super Bowl.
00:26Jalen Hurts was wildly inconsistent last season.
00:28Well, you fast forward to this season,
00:31and their passing game has been mostly disappointing, right?
00:34They've had, Hurts has had a couple halves of football,
00:37particularly last week you were at that game in Tampa
00:39where you go, wow, this is amazing.
00:40He's never looked this good against the Blitz,
00:42and then he was 0 for 8 for 0 yards in the second half.
00:44So the word around the team is the receivers are frustrated,
00:47just like they were last year, but it was similar to,
00:51because the passing game was not very good.
00:53And now you have yet another offensive coordinator change, Kevin.
00:56This is Jalen Hurts' sixth different play caller in his career.
01:00He had Doug Peterson, people forget, in his rookie season.
01:02That's Shane Steichen after Nick Sirianni handed the play calling over to him.
01:07Brian Johnson, who Brian Johnson had known Jalen Hurts,
01:10going back to Hurts' childhood.
01:12Brian Johnson was fired.
01:13Kellen Moore gets it, right?
01:15Their passing game was inconsistent.
01:16He gets the New Orleans Saints job.
01:18Then Kevin Petula, the passing game coordinator,
01:20they wanted to stay in the house, I'm told,
01:22because they did not want to give him yet another voice he was not familiar with.
01:25And it hasn't worked out yet.
01:27So on your question about, well, why are the players piping off or not happy?
01:32Kevin, if you look at what the players said, we're talking about A.J. Brown,
01:36you know what he put in social media, which was a little different.
01:39He had a very cryptic response to what's going on.
01:44He talked last year about the passing game.
01:46He went on the record, on the record,
01:48and saying that's the issue with their offense.
01:50He didn't sing out the O.C. or the quarterback.
01:52Now, Devontae Smith, if you watch his interview, which is definitely out there,
01:57he's not happy.
01:59So, yeah, one source that is saying what's really going on there.
02:04Look, the reason why we're talking about this, Kevin,
02:07is they're a 4-0 team, yet players are not happy with certain things.
02:12But yet they have a really good locker room.
02:14It's very unique, though.
02:15Covering this business, you don't usually see this stuff,
02:17or players talking on the record about what they don't like.
02:21I mean, Kevin, you know they were talking about the need to be aggressive.
02:25Even Hurts said that about them needing to be aggressive.
02:29It's kind of strange.
02:31But you know what?
02:32I give him credit for going on the record and saying it.
02:35Cap, I just want to ask,
02:36because Sirianni dealt with this a couple of years ago
02:39when they got knocked out of the playoffs by Tampa
02:42and there's a body of work there,
02:44do you feel like Sirianni is sort of feeling this process out
02:49and sort of like just get this team progressing week to week to week
02:53where I've said it, they're winning games
02:56and they're winning against top-ranked competition right now?
02:58I know.
02:59Joe, that's a great question.
03:00Let me go back to 2023 when the team imploded both sides of the football.
03:05When he – I guess they reorganized the defense.
03:08When Sean decided, the defense coordinator, was –
03:11he lost the responsibilities, right?
03:13They handed off to Matt Patricia.
03:15That was an absolute disaster.
03:16Offensively, Brian Johnson, the offense really regressed in the second half.
03:21Now, he learned a lot, okay?
03:22And what happened was he had to get things rated.
03:26He did, and they wound up winning the Super Bowl last season,
03:28and he got his contract extension.
03:30So, Joe, he knows how to deal with turmoil.
03:33This is minor comparative to what happened in 2023.
03:36I think, to be honest with you, Joe,
03:37I think Sirianni became a better head coach.
03:39I mean, that's – I know people around him have thought the same way.
03:42So, he's become a better head coach.
03:43Now, this one, to move this forward, Joe,
03:47they've got to get Hurts righted.
03:48He can't just play one great half.
03:50Now, Kevin, you were at that game.
03:52Hurts took a big hit in the second quarter.
03:55Yeah.
03:55Now, he was not diagnosed with anything during the game or after the game.
03:59He took all the reps this week as a starting quarterback.
04:01But you have to wonder, 0 for 8 for 0 yards.
04:05I know they didn't have to throw it much because they had a big lead,
04:07and you saw what happened to the Bucs.
04:08Made the game closer than it should have been.
04:10But it's something to watch today.
04:12One more thing before we move on is,
04:14how aggressive are they against a very good defense in the Broncos?
04:18The Eagles have passing personnel.
04:19They can't run it, Joe.
04:20They can't run it, guys, to save their life.
04:23At some point, they've got to be able to throw the ball better.
04:26All right.
