00:00It's showtime!
00:20Since first becoming heavyweight champion 15 years ago,
00:24no athlete has led a more emotionally turbulent public life
00:28than Michael Gerard Tyson.
00:31The images of his popularity, his anger, and his anguish
00:35continue to fascinate us
00:36as they remain indelibly etched in our memories.
00:40I'm the best ever!
00:41I put people in body bags, and I'm right.
00:42I'm gonna make you my girlfriend.
00:44I'm Sonny Liston, I'm Jack Dempsey, there's no one like me, I'm from Nair Clause.
00:47Make sure you kiss me good with those big lips.
00:49I don't want that title, I want to strip them of their f***ing health.
00:52Look at me, I gotta go home, and my kids are gonna be scared of me, look at me, man.
00:54I'm a dysfunctional mother f***er.
00:56I'm the most brutal, efficient, and most ruthless champion there's ever been.
00:59It's on like a mothaf***.
01:03Despite fighting less than three rounds in 12 months,
01:06he remains arguably the most controversial, most compelling athlete today.
01:11Mike Tyson, next on Showtime Championship Boxing.
01:14Outroag
01:21To be continued...
01:24...
01:25You coaster, I was a rowker .
03:28And what a way to start.
03:30These guys love it.
03:32A crowd of over 20,000 expected for Tyson versus Nielsen.
03:36Hello again, everybody.
03:40As undercard action takes place behind us as we speak, Steve Albert high above ringside from Copenhagen.
03:46If you're looking for logic, you better look elsewhere.
03:50Mike Tyson has fought only five times in four years.
03:53He's arguably more than a decade removed from his prime.
03:56Yet Iron Mike is quite possibly one win away from securing the opportunity to reestablish himself as the best heavyweight in the world.
04:04And unless there's a huge upset, that win will come tonight right here against local hero Brian, or as they call him here in Denmark, Brian Nielsen.
04:13Tyson has recently taken the show on the road.
04:15And oh, what a wild and bumpy ride it's been.
04:17Welcome again to the Mike Tyson Traveling Circus.
04:20The Mike Tyson Traveling Circus.
04:50I feel 100% in shape. I feel great.
05:10What does it take for Brian Nielsen to beat you?
05:14I shot both my arms.
05:20And tonight, the circus rolls into Denmark, and despite the long layoff, Tyson remains a worldwide attraction.
05:27With that, let me bring on my ringside partner, former world champion Bobby Chez.
05:31And, Bobby, why does Tyson continue to be an important part of the heavyweight division in spite of his inactivity?
05:38Well, Steve, early in his career, Mike Tyson set a new standard in the heavyweight division for power and excitement.
05:43Lately, that standard has been about controversy and the bizarre.
05:46But the fact of the matter is this. He's still the premier puncher in the division and marquee value,
05:50and that somehow entitles him to be entitled to contention at all times.
05:54All right, to give everybody a better idea of Tyson's career activity, or lack of more recently, check out this graph.
06:01Now, Tyson fought 15 times in his first year as a pro, had 28 fights his first two years, 42 before his incarceration in 92.
06:08But since his release in 1995, he's been in the ring only 11 times.
06:13He hasn't fought more than three times in one year since 87.
06:16In his last four fights over a two-year span, he's fought a total of six rounds, including two-note contests against Orlin Norris and Andrew Gulotta.
06:25His last three fights have lasted a total of just over 10 minutes.
06:31Now, Bobby, given Tyson's inactivity and his quality of opposition of late, is he ready for a championship fight?
06:38Well, you know what, Steve? This quality of opposition has not been that questionable.
06:41Okay, Julius Francis' first fight last year, a bit of a give-me, a walkover, somebody that didn't really have big talent.
06:47But Andrew Gulotta's been in with top contenders and world champions, as has Lou Savarese.
06:52The fact that Mike Tyson blew them away like they didn't belong in the ring, well, that's a credit to Tyson's power and his tenacity.
06:59But his inactivity is almost inexcusable.
07:01You can't take off six, eight, ten months at a clip and expect to be in title contention at all times.
07:05You can't do it.
07:06All right, and that, of course, brings us to the subject of 36-year-old Brian Nielsen,
07:10who may not be familiar to American fight fans, but in Denmark, he's Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, and Muhammad Ali rolled into one.
07:17In fact, in a recent national popularity poll, the 1992 Olympic bronze medalist placed second, trailing only the Queen of Denmark.
07:25Be sure of this.
07:26In these parts, Nielsen Ain't No Danish Pastry.
07:31Everybody knows Tyson.
07:33Everybody.
07:35And that's the biggest name you can fight in the heavyweight.
07:38You have a good punch and you have the hardest punch.
07:45I don't think it's more difficult than a lot of other fighters.
07:50I'm bigger and I have longer arms.
07:54I'm strong like Tyson.
07:55I just want to box him and fight with him.
08:03I don't want to run from him.
08:07Because I have a good heart and a big heart.
08:10I think that's the most important when you're fighting.
08:13I don't go down for anything.
08:16I want to fight.
08:17So long my legs keep me up, I fight.
08:25I have fought in 12 years and I am trying a lot of things, so I hope one day the big fight is coming.
08:34And that's now.
08:35And I'm ready for the fight.
08:39Well, he's confident at a public workout in New York City last month.
08:43We asked Nielsen how popular he'd be if he defeated Mike Tyson.
08:47His answer, I can't possibly become any more popular than I am now.
08:51Sounds like Bobby Chez a little bit there.
08:53Don't I wish.
08:54All right, how does Nielsen compare to Tyson's recent opponents?
08:58Well, I mean, if you look on paper, if you stack it up, he's over 250 pounds, a big guy,
09:02but yet he's not a real big puncher, and yet he's physically strong.
09:05He's 62-1 with 43 knockouts, which gives the appearance of maybe a formidable and good opponent.
09:10At the same time, he's fought a list of who's who in the no man's land.
09:14The fighters are not anybody.
09:15The only fighters that were really documented talent, he fought way past the prime.
09:19He's still very busy for a heavyweight, throws a lot of punches, comes forward, and claims
09:23to have a good chin.
09:24Well, he's going to need to show me that.
09:26If I could pass two or three rounds, we could have something interesting on our hands.
09:29But a lot of people do think he is just another sacrificial lamb for Mike Tyson.
09:33Now, should Brian Nielsen, who's fought predominantly hand-picked opponents almost exclusively in his
09:38own backyard, pull off the improbable tonight with an upset win over Tyson.
09:42It may not resonate through the sports world like the Buster Douglas fight, but it would
09:46overshadow the recent losses by Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.
09:50As we stand by at Parkin Stadium, we'd like to invite you Showtime subscribers with internet
09:56access to log on to show.com, where you can find out more about tonight's fighters.
10:00Show.com, the home of ring records, bios, and exclusive photos of Mike Tyson and Brian
10:05Nielsen, as well as information on upcoming Showtime championship boxing and Showbox telecasts.
10:10In addition, you can find out more about your favorite Showtime original programming and
10:14series.
10:15And as a special bonus, be one of the first 500 people to log on, and you'll receive
10:19a free Mike Tyson poster.
10:21Once again, the address is show.com.
10:24That's s-h-o dot com.
10:27This is the only enclosed venue in Copenhagen that can hold this event, the only big top,
10:32big enough to hold Mike Tyson's traveling roadshow.
10:36And Tyson not the only one making his debut here in Denmark.
10:39The charismatic Joe Calzaghe with the matinee idol looks and a fan of the New York Yankees
10:45venturing outside his home in Wales to defend a world title this evening.
10:52We get set for our opening bout.
10:55Southpaw Joe Calzaghe, Britain's only undefeated world champion versus relatively unknown number
11:00nine rated Will McIntyre for the WBO super middleweight championship.
11:09Will Kidd fire McIntyre coming into the strains of Bruce Springsteen, court of the USA.
11:19McIntyre making the long trip to Copenhagen from Covington, Louisiana, about an hour from
11:23Baton Rouge.
11:24First fight outside the U.S.
11:26And his first world title shot.
11:34The two times he stepped up in class, he's lost early in his career, a close decision to
11:40Omar Sheikah in 97.
11:41And exactly a year ago tonight, a one-sided decision to Dana Rosenblatt.
11:46He admitted he froze that night.
11:48If that's so, how will he react tonight?
11:53Once had the fringe NBA Super Bowlweight belt.
11:5629 and 2, 13 knockouts.
11:58An aggressive game competitor, Bobby.
12:04But there's little or no comparison to Calzaghe in experience or level of opposition.
12:08What about skills?
12:10Well, you know, McIntyre has a huge opportunity and a huge task in front of him for that reason,
12:14Steve.
12:15His game is aggressive, but he is of limited ability.
12:18Boyce has tried to step up and fall very short.
12:20Okay, this is an opportunity of a lifetime, but several fighters fell out for obvious reasons.
12:24Right now, on a skill level, I don't think he has enough need to make this a competitive fight for a long time.
12:30Patriotically draped in the American flag, Will McIntyre of Louisiana.
12:39His opponent, Calzaghe, claimed that a virus plus difficulty finding a suitable opponent explains his inactivity.
12:46He has been inactive for a while since late April.
12:49Antoine Echols, Hassan Sharif, who were mentioned as possible opponents before McIntyre for tonight.
12:57It turns out to be Will McIntyre, a somewhat safe opponent for Calzaghe.
13:02And here is the left-hander out of South Wales, a champion that lost in anonymity, Joe Calzaghe.
13:22Safe to say, the best 168-pound fighter today in a division that has been described as a wasteland
13:28has less than one round of boxing in 2001, a minute 52 to be exact.
13:34The first round annihilation of previously unbeaten number one-rated Mario fight.
13:40Restoring some British pride on the heels of the losses by Lennox Lewis and Nassim Hamed.
13:46He'll have some support here, some fans making the trip from Wales, and there they are.
13:53Calzaghe with pretty good pomp, tremendous speed, but hasn't really been tested, not expected to be tonight.
13:59He has failed to impress in some title defenses, but looked good in others,
14:02plagued by hand and elbow injuries through time and non-defining fight.
14:08He's made no secret he's hunting for larger games, namely Triple Light Heavyweight Champion Roy Jones Jr.
14:14Bobby, what's your overall assessment of Calzaghe, and is he ready for Jones?
14:20Well, right now, I like Calzaghe as the best in his division, but once again,
14:23we've said it before, he's a victim of a division without talent, without real talent to test and push him
14:28to see what he's made of. Couple that with the fact that unification fights almost never happen
14:33for a lot of different reasons between promoters and sanctioned bodies.
14:36I think he has to move up. A fight with him and Roy Jones Jr. is an excellent matchup.
14:40He has comparable speed and power. Couple that with the fact he's very busy,
14:44so it's a lot of combinations, and has an awkward, southpaw stance.
14:47I think that adds intrigue to the fight. It's a fight that I'd love to see.
14:50Pay good money to watch.
14:52He is a 25-1 favorite tonight. 9-0 in World Championship fights,
14:58as you look at the WBO belt.
15:01As opposed to McIntyre getting his first championship experience.
15:04Let's check the numbers now as we go to the tail of the tank.
15:13Calzaghe at 29, three years older than McIntyre, the height nearly even.
15:17McIntyre with the two-inch reach advantage at yesterday's weigh-in.
15:20Both came in the 168 limit just under.
15:23And the key rules for this WBO title fight.
15:27There's no standing eight count, no three-knockdown rule.
15:29A fighter cannot be saved by the belt in any round.
15:32If an accidental headbutt occurs before the end of the fourth round,
15:36the fighters rule a technical draw.
15:38If it happens after the end of round four, they go to the scorecards.
15:40So here at Parkin Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark,
15:44we're getting ready for Joe Calzaghe versus Will McIntyre
15:48for the WBO Superbiddleweight Championship.

18:21He weighed in at 167 and one-half pounds.
18:25His record stands at 29 wins,
18:28two losses,
18:29with 13 wins coming by way of knockout.
18:32He is currently ranked the number nine contender by the WBO.
18:36Introducing the challenger,
18:37Will Kiddfire McIntyre!
18:44And here over,

18:47the regent champion.
18:49He weighs as his opponent,
18:5176,3 kilos,
18:52roughly 168 pounds.
18:55His record list is fantastic.
18:5731 rounds,
18:5931 wins,
19:00and here are the 26 wins on Nagat.
19:04From Newbridge,
19:05the regent world champion,
19:06Joe Kalsaki!
19:10And ladies and gentlemen,
19:12across the rings,
19:13the defending world champion,

19:19hailing from Newbridge, South Wales.
19:22He weighed in the same as his opponent,
19:24167 and one-half pounds.
19:26His outstanding record stands at 31 wins,
19:30no losses,
19:3126 wins coming by way of knockout.
19:34Tonight,
19:35he is making the ninth defense of his title.
19:37Please welcome the undefeated WBO,
19:40super middleweight champion of the world,
19:43Joe Kalsaki!
19:46And once again,
19:50a referee in charge,
19:51Rudy Battle,
19:52now to give instructions.
19:53All right, thank you.
20:19The stare down.
20:20And the words of the third man,
20:24Rudy Battle,
20:2411 of Kalsaki's 26 KOs in the first round,
20:27including his last fight,
20:28when he started very fast against Mario fight of Germany.
20:32McIntyre,
20:33who fought just 21 days ago,
20:35not a particularly fast starter,
20:37young man on his biggest stage.
20:39How will he respond?
20:42Kalsaki,
20:42very aggressive,
20:43big left hand,
20:44which dropped quite twice before it was stopped
20:47in the opening round back in late April.
20:49Busy puncher,
20:50accurate,
20:51lots of movement,
20:51and fast hands.
20:53Speed going to be a very big factor here.
20:55Kalsaki,
20:56obviously,
20:57a favorite,
20:57but he has great speed and accurate.
21:00He punches,
21:00and he knows where his punches are going to land.
21:02Combinations,
21:02punches and bunches.
21:04McIntyre,
21:05one-and-one versus Southpaws,
21:06told us he'll need to modify his usual straight ahead,
21:09attacking style.
21:11He says they believe he'll be right in front of Kalsaki
21:14and look to brawl.
21:14Instead,
21:15he'll show movement,
21:16angles,
21:17make Kalsaki miss,
21:18try to frustrate him.
21:19Get off him!
21:19Get off him!
21:19Back out!
21:20He knows Kalsaki's very quick and busy,
21:21and that the toughest part of the fight will be early on.
21:25Just now,
21:26I think we saw Kalsaki being a little overanxious,
21:28a little too ready to please his hometown-type crowd.
21:32He didn't look real sharp with that combination,
21:34but something that's interesting,
21:35he's coming forward,
21:36something that McIntyre almost always does.
21:39He's coming forward,
21:40he's coming forward,
21:41he's coming forward,
21:42he's coming forward.
21:43Now, Kalsaki told us he wanted to be very fast,
21:49but the thing is,
21:50McIntyre looks easy to hit.
21:52He wants to take McIntyre,
21:53said he's confident,
21:54but just not fast enough for him.
21:56He says what he does,
21:57he does well,
21:58but he doesn't do an awful lot,
21:59and that's gonna be trouble.
22:00McIntyre,
22:02anyway.
22:03Kalsaki not pleased about his inactivity,
22:06wants to be more active,
22:08but said that the flu and fights falling through
22:10set him back.
22:11He said he wanted to fight again in January,
22:18still seeking a fight with Roy Jones at 168 to 175.
22:23Bernard Hopkins' name has been mentioned.
22:25Come on.
22:26He wants to be able to read Eric Lucas
22:28as possible future opponents for the left-hand.
22:31Problem is,
22:32he's had no real defining rivalry during his career,
22:35and he really needs a high-profile fight.
22:37He's never fought in the United States as well.
22:39Right now,
22:40he's teeing off on McIntyre,
22:41he's just covering up and backing up,
22:43not really unluing any good offense.
22:45There's a good left hand to the head by Kalsaki,
22:48drilling McIntyre with a series of lefts and rights.
22:52Big left hook there that got the attention of McIntyre.
22:55Now that, Steve,
22:56he hurt him to the body.
22:57One of those right hooks to the body
22:59really hurt McIntyre,
23:00and then he came up top with an uppercut.
23:01Kalsaki jumping on McIntyre
23:03and looking to end it here in the first.
23:08A for Roy.
23:10Late in round one.
23:12All that stuff's not landing right now, Steve.
23:14It's sort of a shoeshine.
23:16A lot of show and not a lot of go.
23:18But some are getting through.
23:21A huge step up in caliber of opposition for McIntyre.
23:25Let him go. Let him go. Step out.
23:27Quickly learning what life is like
23:29in the upper echelon of the super middleweight division.
23:35No, no.
23:37Final seconds, round one.
23:41Well,
23:42Will McIntyre at least doing what Mario Fein,
23:45who was then the number one contender,
23:47could do.
23:49Get out of the first.
23:56He didn't come all the way over here for this bullshit.
23:59You know why the guy's beating the shit out of you?
24:01Because you like him.
24:03Goddammit fighting.
24:04You can't wait for one punch at a time.
24:06You made him look ordinary at the beginning of the round,
24:08and then you stopped in front of him and didn't punch.
24:11Give me that grease.
24:12Right on my hand. Right on my hand.
24:14Look, you looking for throwing one punch,
24:17twos and threes together.
24:19Fight this guy, Goddammit.
24:20You hear me what I'm telling you?
24:21Joe Scalzaghi pressing the attack here.
24:25You see a left underneath and a left up top,
24:27and then comes back to the right hook.
24:29But you see him digging that left,
24:30and now the right hand to the body.
24:32A couple of those body shots,
24:33I think, really took their toll
24:34and allowed him free rein to throw the uppercuts
24:36and bust up the nose of Will McIntyre.
24:39Stay back, Joe.
24:40There we saw from another angle.
24:41You know that left the hip underneath,
24:42I think, really,
24:43is the one that hurt McIntyre the most.
24:44You see him back up and really cave in physically.
24:46Round two.
24:47I see.
24:48A strong and colorful words of trainer Les Bonanno
24:51in the corner of Will McIntyre,
24:53who fought most of the opening round backpedaling
24:56and circling in a clockwise direction,
25:00trying unsuccessfully to avoid
25:02Calzaghi's barrage of blow.
25:04And Les does not mince words.
25:05He'll tell you exactly what's on his mind,
25:07as we noticed earlier.
25:08One.
25:09Keep him up.
25:14Kalski ending that first round
25:17in very strong fashion.
25:20McIntyre does not fight well going backward.
25:22He cannot keep going backward.
25:24He doesn't fight well.
25:25He's never going to have a chance of winning in that position.
25:31He does have a good chin.
25:32He's never been down.
25:3429-2, 13 knockouts.
25:36Kalski 31-0, 26 knockouts,
25:39twice as many KOs as McIntyre.
25:42He's never been down.
25:44He's never been down.
25:45He's never been down.
25:46While McIntyre does have a good chin,
25:49defense not a strength,
25:51as he continues to go backwards.
25:54His quality of opposition is also questionable.
26:01While he's a tough kid,
26:03many would be asking the question,
26:05what is he doing here against Joe Calzaghi?
26:10We can answer that politically.
26:13But...
26:18Kalski land, nice combination.
26:19He really staggered playing.
26:20McIntyre, I mean, stopped him right in his tracks,
26:22and then he hesitated.
26:23McIntyre didn't unload where I thought he should have,
26:25a second combination.
26:26He did not move at gym.
26:27Then...
26:29Galski continues to dictate the tempo.
26:39Just following McIntyre wherever he goes.
26:43McIntyre just walked into one.
26:44He's got a little bit of a ball in the hole.
26:47No!
26:49We talked about at the top of the show, too,
26:51just the difference in skill level.
26:53One is at level A and one is at maybe level C.
26:56He just hasn't developed his skills
26:58well enough to be here yet.
27:04So far, it's like an easy sparring session for Kalzagi.
27:07Right jabs, left uppercuts connecting repeatedly.
27:11Hey, here I am. Stop punching. Let him go. Step out. Step out.
27:14Step out.
27:19Oh, that's it.
27:21Kalzagi looks a little sloppy once in a while when he loads up
27:23because right now there's nothing to worry about.
27:25Everything is being done offensively he's doing.
27:28McIntyre's giving almost nothing to worry about, Stephen.
27:30That's gonna let a guy do whatever he wants
27:32and sometimes get a little sloppy.
27:33And McIntyre is experiencing the nice hand speed of Kalzagi.
27:41That Kalzagi continues to have his way.
27:44That's the piano jabs, hit your feet, right?
27:47The combination of 3B coming in.
27:48Don't wait to come in and then throw in 3Bs.
27:503B coming in, right?
27:51You go straight on your A's.
27:53Your A's are fabulous shots.
27:56Your A's are fabulous shots.
27:57This guy you have to do a step in the whole round.
27:59Alright?
28:00You hear me now?
28:01You hear me?
28:02Okay.
28:03He's got nothing whatsoever for you.
28:04Nothing at all.
28:05Nothing at all.
28:06Alright?
28:07You know the second round.
28:08Get the grab on there.
28:09Fast!
28:10You've got it fast.
28:11Alright?
28:12You've got it fast.
28:13Alright?
28:14You've got it fast.
28:15Alright?
28:16Okay?
28:173Bs exercise.
28:18He's not a penalty switch.
28:19Alright?
28:20You hear me now?
28:21You've got the jab.
28:22Alright?
28:23Don't search.
28:24Straight A's first.
28:25Then come to short work.
28:26Alright?
28:27This is all over the place.
28:28She's not a penalty switch.
28:29Alright?
28:30Hand me now.
28:31You've got the jab.
28:32Alright?
28:33Don't search.
28:34Straight A's first.
28:35Then come to short work.
28:36Alright?
28:37This is all over the place.
28:38She's first.
28:39Alright?
28:40Come on, son.
28:41You can do it.
28:43Yeah, let it go.
28:44Come on.
28:45You can do it.
28:46Yeah, let it go.
28:49And now into round three.
28:51Nice and good.
28:52Nice and good.
28:53Nice and good.
28:54Nice and good.
28:55Nice and good.
28:56Nice and good.
28:57Nice and good.
28:58Nice and good.
28:59Nice and good.
29:00Now Zaggy average is just
29:01over four.
29:03It has been all Cal Zaggy
29:04from the opening bell.
29:05To a great degree right now,
29:07so far McIntyre's chin is held up.
29:09And and you have to do fairness
29:10because Zagy's landed some pretty good shots.
29:12But a lot more speedy.
29:13With combination of punches and points.
29:15Not all power shots.
29:17McIntyre just not doing anything offensively.
29:19No way.
29:20Oh, left uppercut to the jaw by Calzaghe.
29:26Right-left combination to the head,
29:28and that left real rocked McIntyre back.
29:32And now he's shot shooting for the champion.
29:35He is really honing in on that nose and that chin.
29:37Basically, target practice for the champion.
29:50He is really getting a schooling, McIntyre.
29:56He just is offering up almost no offense whatsoever
29:59from time to time.
30:01Poking punch like there, but he doesn't follow up.
30:03Even if he gets it, he's got to fire back to get some respect.
30:08Every once in a while, he tries to counter
30:10with a leaping left hook.
30:13But it's widely telegraphed and slow.
30:15And Calzaghe will see that a mile away
30:16and have a counter waiting for him by the time he gets there.
30:20in the middle of his head.
30:21Calzaghe missed with the uppercut
30:22and then nailed him with a straight left.
30:25Right on the nose.
30:31This is almost totally unfair.
30:35Total domination by the champion, Calzaghe.
30:38A mismatch from the word go.
30:40Left uppercut to the chin by Calzaghe.
30:43No wonder the stomach hurt him as well
30:45because you see a little buckle in the legs,
30:47a little wind taken from his body.
30:49Those body shots are taking a toll.
30:50Those body shots are taking a toll.
30:54Calzaghe just marching through.
30:57And there's a left uppercut right on the chin by Calzaghe.
31:01And Rudy Battle has to be wondering how much longer
31:04he's going to let this go.
31:05I'll tell you what.
31:06For the first time, McIntyre fought back
31:08with some sense of urgency, but he just doesn't have the speed.
31:11Every time he throws a punch, he's getting caught in between
31:14combinations with everything.
31:15And he doesn't have a big punch as well.
31:19He has decent power, but certainly not a one-punch KO cut.
31:23He's game, though.
31:24He's got heart.
31:27They're just being outclassed, outskilled.
31:30Oh, look at this one.
31:31He is very unsteady legs.
31:34Dude, that was a left uppercut.
31:36The ropes saving McIntyre from going down
31:41for the first time in his career.
31:43You all right?
31:43Yes.
31:44Put your hands up.
31:45Punch back.
31:46But it is an official knockdown.
31:47Get back.
31:49Because Rudy Battle ruling that without the ropes,
31:51he would have gone down.
31:52I think we've got about one more round
31:54that his fight now will be a maximum.
31:55Maybe.
31:57Where's the doctor?
32:00Where's the doctor?
32:01Rudy Battle searching for a doctor.
32:02Get the doctor up there.
32:05You're a doctor of the house.
32:11Let me tell you something.
32:14You want to quit?
32:15No.
32:16Well, goddammit, if you don't fight,
32:17I would throw the fucking tile in the ring.
32:20You're getting hit because you're letting a man hit you.
32:22He ain't doing shit.
32:23Can I see a few minutes?
32:27You'll watch, Cal Zagno.
32:29He keeps his hands up real tight.
32:31Does McIntyre right here.
32:32Keeps his hands up high.
32:32But this jab just keeps popping off his head,
32:34popping off his head, popping off his head,
32:35and just literally there's nothing coming back.
32:38He just sticks it right out there.
32:40Bop, bop.
32:41Just keeps putting it out there.
32:42Nothing coming back.
32:43The jab just in his face, letting up the nose.
32:49Now we'll see a knockdown.
32:50Cal Zagno decumulation factor.
32:52There you see.
32:53He walked into an uppercut.
32:54And his legs are out.
32:55Oh, boy.
32:56Cal Zagno's more of a gentleman than I would have been.
32:58He's still on the ropes.
32:59I would have probably taken another hit at him.
33:01You heard the words of Les Fanano, do you want to quit?
33:04And McIntyre said, no.
33:06All right, let him go.
33:07The kid has guts.
33:07He's just not in the same skill department, obviously,
33:10as the Joe Cal Zagno.
33:11Yeah, there's not a lot of quitting the kid.
33:13He's had plenty of opportunity to just say, OK, I've had enough,
33:16especially at that last barrage on the ropes.
33:18But he just does not have the skill to compete at this level,
33:21especially with Joe Cal Zagno.
33:22Cal Zagno just hammering away, left hands getting it repeatedly,
33:26a series of shots.
33:27And down he goes for the second time.
33:29And battle says that's enough.
33:30Rudy Battle stops the fight, mercifully, for McIntyre.
33:35I know you are.
33:37But he is a tough kid.
33:38You can hear him say, I'm all right.
33:40Come on.
33:42So you've got to give him that.
33:47Cal Zagno hardly breaking a sweat.
33:49Yeah!
33:50Yeah!
33:51And that's it in round four.
33:53And Cal Zagno with his ninth successful defense of the belt.
34:00Only Chris Eubank with 14 and Sven Aki with 11
34:05have made more successful defenses at this weight, 168.
34:12So an easy victory for Joe Cal Zagno.
34:15He can probably line up another opponent in a few minutes.
34:21He can do that for him.
34:24There's Will McIntyre who showed a lot of gumption and hanging around,
34:29but totally outclassed by Cal Zagno.
34:37Cal Zagno now goes to 32-0, 27 knockouts.
34:41No secret he wants to fight Roy Jones, Jr.,
34:45but Jones is a tough negotiator,
34:47also leery of leaving the U.S. to fight.
34:49It would mean a lot if he went to Wales to fight Calzaghe,
34:52not as much meaning in the States.
34:55But as mentioned, briefly, more likely scenarios,
34:58Calzaghe against David Reed or WBC champ Eric Lucas,
35:03and as mentioned, are not Hockens.
35:05The best of SuperMillerweight division under the 69 pound day,
35:07boy, Jones, get on, man.
35:08You can hear him calling out for Roy Jones.
35:11You notice on the way in, he wore a Yankees hat,
35:13maybe doing a little bonding with U.S.A.,
35:15international bonding.
35:16You know he wants to fight more often than U.S.A.
35:18Very interesting.
35:21Trying to increase his marketability in America.
35:26We're going to take a look at what is basically
35:28just the finish of the fight.
35:30Calzaghe just landing that left hand
35:31with incredible accuracy time and time again.
35:34And for the first time right there,
35:35Will McIntyre lets it all hang out a little bit,
35:38but he just doesn't have it.
35:40The punches are too crisp too often.
35:42And again, it's just a different skill level.
35:44Unfortunately, Joe Calzaghe can't find better competition
35:47to step up and fight him in what is a barren division
35:51right now.
35:51It really is.
35:52And there it is, as it's waved off.
36:06One more look at it.
36:17Again, the accumulation has really gotten to McIntyre right now.
36:20Straight left and a right hook.
36:22Body shot.
36:23The shot to the temple, they're not that big,
36:24but you can see he's on wobbly legs.
36:26All of those punches just adding up and adding up.
36:28I guarantee you he has a headache in the morning.
36:32A bloodied Will McIntyre.
36:38We'll go back to Covington, Louisiana.
36:4029-3.
36:41Different story for undefeated Joe Calzaghe.
36:46The other champions in the division,
36:50airing is Lucas, Byron, Mitchell, Sven, Atke.
36:54Atke a good boxer, but virtually void of power.
36:57Mitchell also one-dimensional.
36:59Basically a big puncher.
37:00We'll get the official announcement
37:04from our dueling ring announcers.
37:10Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we've got time
37:12after 35 seconds boxing in the fourth round.
37:15We win on a technical knockout.
37:17And still in the world's best, Joe Calzaghe.
37:22And ladies and gentlemen,
37:24we have the time of 35 seconds in round at number four.
37:28A referee in charge, Rudy Battle, stops the contest.
37:31The winner by way of technical knockout,
37:33he is still undefeated and still the WBO
37:37super middleweight champion of the world,
37:40Joe Calzaghe.
37:47For Joe Calzaghe, his fourth consecutive title defense
37:56by way of knockout.
38:01Coming up next, our main event,
38:03former undisputed heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson,
38:06back in the ring for the first time since October of 2000,
38:09as he faces hometown favorite Brian Nielsen.
38:13Here's the scene at Thursday's weigh-in.
38:16Tyson on the scale.
38:18239 pounds.
38:21His heaviest weight ever.
38:24His previous high, 223.
38:26And now the obligatory stare down with his opponent, Brian Nielsen.
38:31Let's get it over to Jim Gray. Jim?
38:33All right. Thank you very much, Steve.
38:35Joe, that was pretty easy work tonight.
38:38In fact, Bobby commented that you were kind of kind by not hitting him.
38:41Was it just total mismatch?
38:43Well, basically, I have to give respect to Kid McIntyre.
38:46I give him a lot of credit for actually coming to the fight.
38:48Show a lot of courage.
38:49A lot of opponents pulled out this fight.
38:50So I thank him for coming over and, you know,
38:52having the chance and having to go to try and win the world title.
38:55But I'm the best in the world.
38:56I'm the best in the world.
38:57I've proved it again and again.
38:58I am the best fighter at Super Middleweight.
39:00I want Roy Jones.
39:01I want Bernard Hopkins.
39:03He wants to look in for a fight.
39:04Hey, I'm ready.
39:05Bring it up to Super Middleweight and let's get Bernard Hopkins.
39:07It'll be a great fight.
39:09You've got a Jolin Joe in America.
39:11I'm the new Jolin Joe.
39:12You ready to come to America and fight your first fight there?
39:13Yeah, most definitely.
39:14I think you can see tonight.
39:15I've got all the class.
39:16I've got the punching power.
39:17I've got the boxing skills.
39:18I'm just ready to take America by storm.
39:21You have had, Joe, some problems with injuries, the flu, certain ailments.
39:25Can you maintain now this level that we've seen tonight and stay healthy and be able to
39:32fight some opponents?
39:33It's really not your fault that you haven't had any quality opponents, but can you now
39:36step up and fight some people and maintain your health?
39:39Yeah, I disagree.
39:40I think Omar Sheikah was a good opponent and I think Richie Woodall was a good opponent.
39:43Mario Veit was 30-0 and knocked him out in the first round.
39:46I just make them look bad.
39:47I think credit is there for how good I actually am.
39:49They're good fighters.
39:50I'm just exceptional.
39:51And I'm ready to prove that on the big stage against another exceptional fighter in Roy
39:54Jones or Bernard Hopkins.
39:55And if you can't get one of them, what will it be?
39:57Eric Lucas or David Reed?
39:58Frank's, yeah.
39:59Frank's promote that.
40:00David Reed or Eric Lucas all unified the titles.
40:03You know, Joe's beaten a lot of, you know, beaten some former world champions.
40:06He's beaten Robin Reed.
40:07Richie Woodall was a WBC champion and he beat him in style.
40:10And he just needs, he needs a big fight and we're looking for a big fight.
40:13Bernard Hopkins, I think he's a big, big fighter there.
40:16He's lost the Trinidad fight.
40:17He says he doesn't want to fight Roy Jones.
40:19He'll fight Joe Calzacchi.
40:20Finally, Joe was an awful nice touch of you to wear a New York Yankees hat into the ring
40:23tonight.
40:24I'm sure the people back in America appreciate that.
40:26Yeah, God bless.
40:27God bless everybody.
40:28And thank God for still being world champion.
40:30And I hope in the future I will stay in G3 and come over and entertain in the States.
40:35Congratulations.
40:36Frank, thank you.
40:37Back to you, Steve.
40:38Jim, Joe Calzacchi, who's had no defining rivalry, desperately needs a high profile fight to gain much needed recognition.
40:49As we take you into first the dressing room, the man people came to see here in Denmark, a beefed up Mike Tyson.
40:55While Nielsen's a star here, Tyson's the spectacle.
40:58Many back in the States have grown weary of his act, but no matter how you analyze it, he's still the biggest name in boxing.
41:04And during a press conference Thursday, Brian Nielsen was accused of uttering a derogatory remark at Tyson in Danish.
41:10Members of Tyson's camp reacted angrily.
41:12I asked Tyson or Nielsen if it was racially motivated.
41:15He said he's not a racist.
41:17The word he meant was clown.
41:19It was not directed at Tyson, he said, but at members of Tyson's team in particular, one who is there to rile and annoy Tyson's opponents.
41:29Coming up next, from Parkins Stadium here in Copenhagen, Denmark, it's the main event, Mike Tyson versus Brian Nielsen.
41:36.
41:37.
41:38.
41:39.
41:40.
41:41.
41:42.
41:43.
41:44.
41:45.
41:46.
41:47.
41:48.
41:49.
41:50.
41:51.
41:52.
41:53.
41:54.
