00:02:54Thanks.
00:02:55Yeah.
00:02:56That cost him a lot of money to fix the front wing on Lando Norris' McLaren.
00:03:01I prefer it when the team bosses get stuck into each other personally and get angry with
00:03:06each other but they're very good friends Zach and Fred.
00:03:10It's all smiles down in the pit lane or is it Ted Kravitz?
00:03:13Where are you?
00:03:14I'm actually right next to Liam Lawson's garage so I can see the car.
00:03:19I can see the mechanics readying the car and I'm seeing some nodding faces.
00:03:24So as the great Murray Walker would say miracle of miracles David Croft because it was looking really dodgy.
00:03:32I mean it was looking like you know the setup wheels were still on.
00:03:35They were still putting the plumb lines out just making sure all the front wheels were in alignment with the rear and getting the cambers and the toes all right.
00:03:43But it looks like in about three or four minutes Lawson's car is going to be repaired and done.
00:03:49Brilliant.
00:03:50He's still probably going to face an uphill battle to get out of Q1.
00:03:53Let's be honest about it along with Pierre Gasly, Franco Colopinto.
00:03:57The Alpine's not looking quick around here.
00:03:59Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin not having great pace certainly on the balance of free practice three.
00:04:04Yuki Tsunoda was also 18th in FP3.
00:04:07He'll be hoping for more and Oli Behm and Fernando Alonso will want to find some speed.
00:04:12But otherwise they're all lined up at the end of the pit lane.
00:04:15I say all probably the half the field and they've all switched their engines off.
00:04:19So looking forward to them firing up again getting out for qualifying.
00:04:22Great shame for Liam Lawson.
00:04:23Now we've got a lot of fans listening to us down in New Zealand.
00:04:27But it's a weekend where he needs a really strong weekend to back up his performance in Azerbaijan.
00:04:32And he's been in the wall a couple of times and we know that that doesn't particularly impress Dr. Helmut Marko.
00:04:39Certainly doesn't. Qualified a career best third of course in Baku and then finished a career best fifth as well.
00:04:44But as you mentioned into the wall a couple of times in FP2 and causing red flag in FP3 today.
00:04:53What could Sauber do?
00:04:55Niko Hulkenberg going well.
00:04:57Getting himself into the top ten in FP3.
00:05:00He hasn't got into the top ten so far this season into Q3.
00:05:03The only full-time driver who's done every single qualifying session not to make it into Q3.
00:05:09And with all 20 cars out there, Liam Lawson sounds like he's going to make it.
00:05:12According to temperatures great news, we of course will expect to see traffic issues.
00:05:17Cars slowing up, trying to make a gap.
00:05:21Others, so that car's not actually officially in the pit lane until the tire goes over the white line.
00:05:27But you're not allowed to impede anybody else.
00:05:30So if they won't let you in the queue, then...
00:05:33And look at this, this is a very kind...
00:05:35No, I thought you were going to let somebody in there.
00:05:37But if they won't let you in the queue and you push in and impede them,
00:05:40under the final instructions from the race director, you can get a penalty.
00:05:45So it's so unfair for the teams at the far end of the pit lane.
00:05:50It certainly is, but that's why winning championships is rather good news
00:05:55because you go to the other end and you get a better choice.
00:05:58And McLaren come into this weekend, of course, on the verge of back-to-back Constructors Championships.
00:06:03When we go racing tomorrow, all they need is one podium or both cars in the top seven.
00:06:08And that Constructors title is theirs.
00:06:10And this is Liam Lawson. We're on board with him.
00:06:12He is waiting to get out.
00:06:14It's a brilliant job by the mechanics to fix his racing ball.
00:06:18So you can ride on board with Liam Lawson too, should you wish.
00:06:21And we've got all 20 on boards available for you and the team radios too.
00:06:25You need to go to your Sky Sports app, use your Sky Sports login,
00:06:28and you can choose Max Verstappen, Liam Lawson, whoever you want.
00:06:32If you are watching on SkyQ Skystream or SkyGlass or now, use the interactive button on your remote control.
00:06:38It's a thumbs up from Will Joseph. He is ready.
00:06:41Lando Norris is ready and he's making his way down the pit lane now.
00:06:45Q1, where we lose the slowest five after 18 minutes.
00:06:49Q2, after 15 minutes we lose the next slowest five.
00:06:53And then Q3, it's the battle for pole position.
00:06:56And this is absolutely not a track you want a slipstream from anybody like you would in Azerbaijan or Monza.
00:07:02You don't want to be anywhere near other cars' turbulent air as you're trying to find some grip through the 90 degree lane changes, block changes that we have here in Singapore.
00:07:15So, here we go then for qualifying tonight.
00:07:18I've never seen as many fans here at the Marina Bay circuit as I'm seeing this year.
00:07:24So much excitement around this place.
00:07:26It's an incredible spectacle when the lights are on.
00:07:29All 1600 illuminating bulbs around the track.
00:07:32The colours of the cars really come to the fore and they shine.
00:07:35Lewis Hamilton, you might have been with us in FP3.
00:07:38You'll have heard, of course, that he had to go and see the stewards for an infringement during the red flag period
00:07:43where he was slowing down, increasing his speed and then attacking the pit lane entry.
00:07:47No further action by the stewards for that.
00:07:51They've decided it might have been a touch aggressive, but not too much.
00:07:55Yeah, Lewis pushing his luck, but actually did not breach the rules.
00:07:58And he races on because that could have been a 10-place grid drop, which is absolutely awful here in Singapore.
00:08:06But now it's all about the big focus on spotting the braking points.
00:08:13Absolutely.
00:08:14Getting off the brakes, actually, is as important as getting on them.
00:08:17Stealing a bit of track on the way into Turn 1.
00:08:20There's some dust as well that he was kicking up there.
00:08:23And that looked a little bit challenging for the first three corners for Lewis Hamilton.
00:08:28It certainly does. On his way he goes. Only Russell, Antonelli, Ocon, Behrman and Alonso not on the track.
00:08:34And he's backed off. Lewis Hamilton has backed off after that little drama between 1 and 2.
00:08:39So that will carry on to Lewis Hamilton.
00:08:42He'll have to go again on a set of tyres that aren't at their 100% best.
00:08:46And that is one of the reasons he had to back off.
00:08:48So we're a few minutes, nearly four minutes into this qualifying 1 session.
00:08:56We welcome our viewers on Sky Sports Main Event who've been enjoying the action of the WSL.
00:09:01Well, it's the action under floodlights now here at the Marina Bay circuit that we switched to.
00:09:05And we're on track with Carlos Sainz, podium finisher for Williams in the last race.
00:09:11What can he do this evening?
00:09:13Very good middle sector for Carlos Sainz.
00:09:1638-3, the best we've had so far.
00:09:18A 1.31-5 from Lance Stroll is the time to beat.
00:09:21No, Alex Albon's already beaten that by just under a tenth of a second.
00:09:24Sainz's Williams teammate.
00:09:26Round the final couple of corners we go.
00:09:28And it's foot to the floor and already a yellow flag as Sainz goes fastest overall.
00:09:32But where is that yellow flag?
00:09:35And was it caused, I wonder...
00:09:40We're underway again.
00:09:41Yeah, we're underway again.
00:09:42Just briefly, I think someone going off turn 7, turn 9 around that area.
00:09:47Yeah, so often the drivers struggle to match their free practice three-time on the first time out.
00:09:52There's not been a lot of track action to upset the racetrack.
00:09:56But you've got to leave.
00:09:58You've somehow, you've got to get a time on the board.
00:10:01Go as hard as you can.
00:10:02But you'll find they gain confidence then as they go through these sessions.
00:10:06Gabriel Bortoleto, the rookie who's out-qualified his teammate Nico Hülkenberg in the last seven races.
00:10:11Goes now fourth fastest because Isaac Hagia, who's tipped for a Red Bull seat for next season and has been very impressive as a rookie this year, has gone to the top of the standings.
00:10:2010th ahead of Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari.
00:10:23A load of oversteer there from Lagdo Norris but kept his foot in.
00:10:27Spinning up the rear axle and takes the kerb nicely, not too much of it.
00:10:32The wall comes up on the right-hand side.
00:10:35Now he just nails his final corner.
00:10:38Wow, that's a lot of grip.
00:10:40And eases open the steering and puts a quarter of a second, only a quarter of a second, on Isaac Hagia.
00:10:46I was just about to say, often quarter of a second, you know, that could be, could be a decent margin.
00:10:51But I don't think it is here tonight.
00:10:52Verstappen already finding time through the middle sector on his first flying run.
00:10:57Andy Cowell was saying this, the CEO and team boss of Aston Martin.
00:11:01Whilst the track improves as the rubber lays down and the times come tumbling down with it, driver confidence improves around the street circuit too.
00:11:08So you see more and more improvement as the drivers get really dialed in.
00:11:12And two and a half tenths now separating Verstappen and Norris at the top.
00:11:16First blood to Verstappen.
00:11:18That's a marker against McLaren.
00:11:21Let's see, we saw B-Battle there, that's brake balance changing for each corner so you don't either lock the front or rear,
00:11:28whatever your particular challenge is in the Ferrari going up through the gearbox.
00:11:32He's in seventh, eighth now.
00:11:34And let's see how many needs to come down as he goes into the corner.
00:11:37Just down to fourth gear.
00:11:39He carries a lot of speed through there.
00:11:41Final two corners coming up.
00:11:43Let's see.
00:11:44And that was quite a lift off, wasn't it?
00:11:47It certainly was, just to make sure.
00:11:49But he goes second fastest Lewis Hamilton.
00:11:51At least he's now got that lap on the board, Martin.
00:11:54Oscar Piastri made a mistake in the middle sector and abandoned his first flying lap.
00:11:59He's come in to the garage, as you can see there.
00:12:02No time set for Oscar Piastri.
00:12:04And he's used a set of tyres that don't count for anything.
00:12:08He's put himself under pressure already then.
00:12:10So it's down into turn one.
00:12:11We've got a car ahead of us.
00:12:12Is this going to be a lock up?
00:12:18Yellow flags.
00:12:19Oh man, come on.
00:12:21You can't give a yellow flag for someone getting out of the way.
00:12:24Yeah, he's right.
00:12:25He's right.
00:12:26That car was just getting out of his way.
00:12:28Now it's wrecked his lap.
00:12:30Hasn't wrecked his tyres.
00:12:31But basically, because that car ran deep on the outside to get out of the way,
00:12:36he's been given a yellow flag.
00:12:38He's right.
00:12:39That's unfair.
00:12:40That's...
00:12:41Unfortunately, the marshals are just doing their job specifically and rightly,
00:12:47but there has to be a level of sort of common sense that goes into that.
00:12:52It's difficult, isn't it?
00:12:54The marshal will be sat there at the marshal post thinking,
00:12:58all right, car off the track.
00:12:59No, yellow flag could be a problem.
00:13:00But you're right.
00:13:01There are differences.
00:13:02Yeah.
00:13:03Between going off deliberately or accidentally.
00:13:05We see it a lot.
00:13:06We see them going through the middle of the chicane to get out of somebody else's way.
00:13:10Yeah.
00:13:11And that should not...
00:13:12But you know, how are you going to have somebody on a flag that can make that judgment
00:13:16between an incident and somebody just getting out of the way?
00:13:21Drama already here in Singapore.
00:13:22And whilst Oscar Piastri on the back foot, Oli Behrman on the front foot.
00:13:26Rookie here.
00:13:27First time in Singapore for Oli Behrman.
00:13:29And he's gone second fastest.
00:13:31Ahead of Hamilton.
00:13:32Ahead of Norris.
00:13:33Hamilton a full-time pole sitter here.
00:13:35And just behind Max Verstappen.
00:13:36And ahead of George Russell who puts in a lap to get in P3.
00:13:40That's a stonking lap there from Oli Behrman.
00:13:43It's incredible.
00:13:44It's the smallest team in Formula One using the Ferrari power unit.
00:13:48And there it is at the moment.
00:13:50Second place.
00:13:51Brilliant.
00:13:52Wasn't it here this time last year?
00:13:54Nico Hülkenberg using a Ferrari power unit at Haas was the fastest of the Ferrari qualifiers.
00:13:59Colopinto a little bit off the pace as he tries to get out of the bottom five.
00:14:04Oscar Piastri has gone out again on a new set of soft tyres.
00:14:08He has to Martin.
00:14:09Can't take any chances here.
00:14:11Now that's bad news for Oscar Piastri and through no fault of his own at all there.
00:14:17Look, this is where the traffic slows down.
00:14:19Some coming in the pits.
00:14:20Some trying to find a gap.
00:14:22But you are carrying incredible speed through that corner.
00:14:26And Colopinto pops it in to the top ten for now.
00:14:29So Colopinto up into eighth place.
00:14:32Esteban Occon saying he's got a problem with his seatbelts,
00:14:35which you certainly don't want around here.
00:14:37Ten braking zones here.
00:14:39Four of which are described as heavy.
00:14:41And we're on board with Lewis Hamilton.
00:14:42This is an absolute blur going through this section.
00:14:45Without doubt, my favourite part of the track to ride on board with the driver.
00:14:48And I'm glad we're riding on board, Martin, not actually doing the driving.
00:14:51A lot of understeer that nearly took him into the wall just before he went on to the Anderson Bridge.
00:14:55Diagonal this straight to be on the left-hand side well before.
00:14:58It's a downhill braking zone.
00:15:00A little bit bumpy.
00:15:01And now we go up against the wall again.
00:15:04There's good traction just in that final part.
00:15:06Ease to here.
00:15:08We used to turn right under a tunnel.
00:15:10But we don't do that anymore.
00:15:12We go straight towards the end of the lap.
00:15:14Again, front end not really putting him over the piece of kerb he would like to be on.
00:15:19Charles Leclerc improving in the middle sectors,
00:15:21but his teammate not finding a middle sector improvement.
00:15:24Although does go second fastest.
00:15:27Two thousandths of a second shy of Max Verstappen.
00:15:31So they're dialing themselves in and the track is coming to them.
00:15:34Yeah.
00:15:35Leclerc with that Ferrari absolutely alive.
00:15:37Alive and well and about to go fastest.
00:15:41Let's have a little look as Leclerc crosses the line.
00:15:43No only third fastest.
00:15:44But look.
00:15:45Fifty-three thousandths of a second separating the top three.
00:15:48Told you it was going to be close tonight.
00:15:50Piastri.
00:15:51We're on a lap with him.
00:15:52Antonelli and Sainz have been noted for potential impeding.
00:15:55I think that's Sainz impeding Antonelli who hasn't got a time on the board.
00:15:58And he's back at the garage.
00:16:00Hadjar fastest now.
00:16:01Wow.
00:16:02Hadjar goes faster.
00:16:03Stand by your bets.
00:16:04This is going to change quite a bit as we ride on board with Piastri.
00:16:08Giampiero Lambiassi, Max Verstappen's race engineer, telling him he thinks you're safe and you don't need to go out again.
00:16:14If that's the case, Hadjar probably doesn't need to go out again either.
00:16:17That's the top two so far as Piastri charges on now towards turn 14 and his next crucial braking point.
00:16:25Aston Martin ahead of him that hopefully will and is getting out of his way.
00:16:29A very, very important lap this for Oscar Piastri's World Championship.
00:16:34The car sparking away as the aerodynamics compressed the car and suspension and tyre sidewalls.
00:16:40And it rubs along the ground at the higher speed.
00:16:43And into the final corner goes Oscar Piastri.
00:16:46This ought to get the job done to get him into Q2, but only P6.
00:16:51I was going to say, I thought he was a couple of tenths down through the first two sectors.
00:16:55And that's where he ended up by the time he crossed the line.
00:16:59A 1.30.4 for Oscar Piastri.
00:17:02Is that enough to get himself out of the bottom five?
00:17:06Well, if you look at the moment, P16, Esteban Ockel, 1.31.2.
00:17:10Looks like eight tenths of a second.
00:17:12But the way this track is ramping up.
00:17:14Yeah.
00:17:15That's a nervy, that's a nervy time for Oscar Piastri.
00:17:18If it was Q2, he'd be in all sorts of trouble with that.
00:17:21No further investigation, say the stewards, Sainz and Antonelli.
00:17:25So they are, well, Carlos Sainz is free to carry on as Oscar Piastri's teammate, Lando Norris, puts in a 26.7 for the first sector.
00:17:35Well, you called it crucial night, crucial weekend for Oscar Piastri's championship challenge.
00:17:41And he can ill afford to be sweating and thinking about trying to get out of Q1.
00:17:46Yeah, I mean, he got unlucky, started fifth last year, and that was a big enough challenge for him on, ended up third, of course.
00:17:53But it's awful here if you end up out of position on the grid.
00:17:57And Oscar Piastri in the past, 17th and fifth on the grid as Norris goes fastest now into the 1.29s.
00:18:05Q1 last year, fastest time was a 1.30.0 from that man there, Lando Norris.
00:18:11And let's have a look at what happened with Kimi Antonelli into turn one.
00:18:16And there's a lot of cars there, and eventually he comes across Carlos Sainz, who was trying to keep out of the way, but did he get in his way?
00:18:24Uh, yes, he did. I think there is absolutely no doubt about that whatsoever.
00:18:29But no further investigation, say the stewards. He was there and in his way, doing his best to keep out of the way, but it definitely slowed it down.
00:18:36And, well, Antonelli is now very much on the back foot. Four and a half minutes to go here only.
00:18:41Well, Sainz's just coming out of the pits. Yes.
00:18:43Because the pit lane feeds right into the apex of turn three. I'm not entirely sure what he can do about it.
00:18:49Oh, what a blistering first sector, though, from the young Italian from Bologna.
00:18:54Wow! Heaven to pisses. That was a pretty impressive 26.6, wasn't it?
00:18:58And the reason this track just keeps coming to the drivers is you rubber in braking zones and traction zones, and they're so critical around here.
00:19:07And the time just comes much more easily to you.
00:19:10So, on board we go then with Kimi Antonelli, who in Baku, last time out, qualified fourth on the grid.
00:19:18Time before that, Monza sixth on the grid. Starting to get his qualifying coming together now.
00:19:23And the results coming with it, too, after a difficult sticky period around the summer break.
00:19:28And a blistering middle sector for Kimi Antonelli. He's used up another set of tires here, but he's a second up.
00:19:36And if that's the level of track improvement that we're seeing, then Oscar Piastri surely is going to have to come out again.
00:19:43I can imagine they might put Piastri out on a used set to have another go and just use the track evolution and his speed and his car's speed to get that job done.
00:19:52Antonelli goes second fastest, so a time of a 1.30.0.
00:19:58He has set a personal best, obviously, for the final sector, but lost about three tenths to the overall best in that final part of the lap.
00:20:06And Will Joseph is now saying to Lando Norris, we think you're safe. We think at 1.29.9 you're okay, but you can do a practice lap if you want.
00:20:13Yeah, you want to keep your eye in, you want to keep understanding where the track is heading to.
00:20:19Right, who's going to go out for a last gasp effort? We've got 13 of the 20 cars on track at the moment.
00:20:26At the moment, also, Liam Lawson in P11 has done a good job with that repaired car.
00:20:31He certainly has. Bottom five, Tsunoda, Gasly, Ocon, Hülkenberg and Bortoletto.
00:20:37Piastri, I've been watching his progress. He's done a push call, might have done another call, but he's not come into the pits to change tyres or anything.
00:20:45He's stayed out of the track, which means he's carrying a bit of a fuel effect.
00:20:49The car would have been a little heavier on that first run, which is probably why he's half a second off the pace.
00:20:55Personal best for Lewis Hamilton in the first sector. He could do with a nice, tidy lap. He had so much understeer.
00:21:02The last time we were on board with him, if they can give that a bit of front wing, a bit of front grip, I think Hamilton's in for a very solid lap time this evening.
00:21:09Absolutely. 26.7 for the four-time pole sitter here.
00:21:13The Mercedes, you were saying there, Martin, taken to the runoff area to keep out of the way.
00:21:17That's what you have to do around here when there's another car closing in on you in the way that Hamilton was on George Russell.
00:21:24George Russell, his former teammate. Piastri's now started what will be his final flying lap, and everybody is out there at the moment.
00:21:30And no yellow flag down there for that incident, so that is what Oscar Piastri is quite rightly complaining about.
00:21:38Quite. So all 20 cars out on track. If you're safe or not, well, it's like the lottery.
00:21:43You've got to be in it to win it. You can't really start to take any chances around this street circuit.
00:21:47Hamilton getting very close to the wall on the exit of turn 17, swings that car into the final corner, goes quickest with a 1.29.7.
00:21:56You called it, you said it was going to be a good lap, and it was, and the crowd responded with cheers that we can hear from our commentary box.
00:22:02Lance Stroll, 14th and only 14th fastest for a man who has had a few knockouts in Q1 here in Singapore.
00:22:11Five in his six visits to Singapore, and his sister Chloe watching on from the garage as Verstappen goes third fastest.
00:22:18And we now watch his teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, who's 20th and plum last at the moment.
00:22:23And boy, does he need a good lap.
00:22:25He does. And Red Bull need him to have a good lap.
00:22:28They definitely need him to get up there somehow and get in the championship battle to help Max Verstappen out.
00:22:33That's what Red Bull need him to do, but right now he needs to get in the race.
00:22:37Piastri, sixth fastest, 130.3. It was a pretty average middle sector from Oscar Piastri and not his best.
00:22:45So is that 133.3 going to be enough?
00:22:49Behind him, lots of green sectors, personal best, and now a yellow flag.
00:22:54And we often get them, Gasly at turn 11.
00:22:57And that might well throw a spanner in the works of those on a lap trying to improve their progress.
00:23:04And we can see Pierre Gasly up against the barriers.
00:23:08So if you're ahead of Gasly on the track, you'll be okay.
00:23:11You'll be able to finish your lap.
00:23:12But if you're coming up to Gasly, that's it.
00:23:14You're out of qualifying if you're in the bottom five.
00:23:16I've lost everything.
00:23:17I don't understand.
00:23:19Oh, is that hydraulics?
00:23:21Hydraulics, yeah.
00:23:22Oh, that is bad, bad news for Pierre Gasly.
00:23:25Actually, that might be electronics as well.
00:23:28Yeah.
00:23:29Or instead of for Gasly, but Russell finished the lap.
00:23:32I think he was just ahead of Gasly.
00:23:35And he's gone up into second place.
00:23:37Piastri looking okay now in seventh.
00:23:40So, Tsunoda goes P10, pushes Colopinto into the bottom five.
00:23:45Colopinto's out of qualifying.
00:23:47Bortoleto, Hülkenberg, O'Connor, Gasly are still going.
00:23:50And I think they were ahead of Gasly.
00:23:52Well, certainly Bortoleto and Hülkenberg were.
00:23:55Well, I can't see how they were.
00:23:57But anyway, if they show that they've lifted the throttle a little bit,
00:24:00they'll just about get away with it.
00:24:02Same for Tsunoda.
00:24:03They put in personal pests in that middle sector.
00:24:06Is that still enough?
00:24:08Hülkenberg gets out of the bottom five,
00:24:10pushes Lance Stroll out of qualifying.
00:24:12It's six and seven.
00:24:14Q1 knockouts for him in Singapore.
00:24:16Bortoleto, after out-qualifying Hülkenberg for the last seven races,
00:24:19hasn't managed it here.
00:24:21He's out only P16.
00:24:23Esteban O'Connor will be next to cross the line.
00:24:25He might have had to slow too much.
00:24:27He did.
00:24:28He stays down in 19th place.
00:24:30So there's your bottom five.
00:24:31Bortoleto, Stroll, Colopinto, O'Connor and Gasly.
00:24:34That is Gasly's stranded car as he walks away.
00:24:37And it's Lewis Hamilton and George Russell setting the top two times
00:24:42after an incident-packed first part of qualifying.
00:24:44And this is what happened to Gasly.
00:24:47And you can see he's just cruising at this stage.
00:24:50Yeah, car's broken down, hasn't it?
00:24:52But he's still got his full dashboard.
00:24:54He's parked it near an exit, but about 90 degrees to where it needs to be.
00:25:00And that won't go down there very easily.
00:25:02But the session's over anyway.
00:25:04Is Lance Stroll getting a bit closer to the barriers
00:25:07than he would have wanted?
00:25:08It's another disappointing night for him and for Colopinto too.
00:25:12He does out-qualify Pierre Gasly for the third consecutive race.
00:25:16But he's out.
00:25:18Gasly's out.
00:25:19Ocon's out.
00:25:20Stroll's out.
00:25:21Bortoleto is out.
00:25:22And it's a British 1-2-3 at the end of Q1.

00:26:15Peter Smith?
00:26:17I think it's time we had a chat.
00:26:19A little bird he told me you posted,
00:26:22Argos is only good for toys.
00:26:23This isn't playtime, Peter.
00:26:28Easy, Trevor. Time to teach our friend a lesson.
00:26:33Repeat after me. There's more to Argos.
00:26:37There is more to Argos.
00:26:39He knows he can leave, right?
00:26:44Dad.
00:26:45Hey, Dad. I have an idea.
00:26:54You know, I've been investing for a while.
00:26:59From insurance to wealth.
00:27:01It's all yours now.
00:27:02And retirement.
00:27:04We can help solve life's financial puzzles.
00:27:06You're going to do great.

00:27:14Come on, get more colour in your life.
00:27:17Unleash your inner queen of clash.
00:27:19Be the co-ord king.
00:27:21Or the baron of beige.

00:27:26Remember, your lease doesn't have a no-scatter-cushion policy.
00:27:30Don't dilly-dally.
00:27:32Drench!
00:27:33Colour.
00:27:34We get it, so we've got it.
00:27:36So go on, then.
00:27:37The home of Colour.
00:27:39Dunelm.
00:27:40The home of homes.
00:27:50So unbelievable.
00:27:51It just always goes bad.
00:27:54Yeah, copy that.
00:27:59Well, this is where it all went wrong for Lance Stroll.
00:28:02It was on the approach to turn 16 and 17.
00:28:05I'll just reload that one for you so you can get a look at it.
00:28:09So it just basically understeers a bit, misses the apex in 16, and then that compromises hugely the exit of turn 17.
00:28:17So that explains the problems for Lance Stroll.
00:28:21They're disappointing, especially just at the end, where you've only got that one chance with the track evolution that we have here.
00:28:26Another interesting one, I thought, was Yuki Tsunoda just about got through, but he had a yellow flag here in turn 10 to deal with, turn 10 and 11, because of the gasly moment.
00:28:36If I just roll this on, you'll see already.
00:28:38As soon as he comes through the corner, he got the yellow flag, the yellow light flashing there.
00:28:43But listen to his throttle.
00:28:44This is the important part.
00:28:45The problem here is that you do have to lift off and brake anyway for turn 11, but from what I'm hearing, he lifts off much earlier than usual.
00:28:57So will they look into that?
00:28:58But I think he should be OK.
00:29:00And then we look at the yellow flag, the other yellow flag situation for poor old Oscar Piastri, who had to throw another set of tyres at this, because on the right-hand side, the Williams goes off the track, like he saw, to make room for him.
00:29:12And as he does, the yellow flags come out.
00:29:16And you can see on Oscar's dash here the yellow bar telling him already that there are yellows because of the car going off the track, having a moment.
00:29:25This is just really, and honestly, I don't know what I would have done if I'm a marshal.
00:29:28I understand why the yellow comes out, but the logic is, like we all know as racers watching this, Oscar shouldn't surely be having to lift off for that kind of moment.
00:29:39It shouldn't be yellow flag compromising that situation.
00:29:43So that's another one to look out for in the next round coming up in qualifying.
00:29:48Over to you, Kofi.
00:29:48Thanks, Sam.
00:29:48Pretty frustrating, that is for sure.
00:29:50Let's go to the Aston Martin pit wall, because the start of qualifying is going to be delayed.
00:29:55We've got time to speak to the CEO and team principal, Andy Cowell.
00:29:57Andy, really good to talk to you tonight.
00:30:00And sadly, for a 12th time this season, Lance is out in Q1, and he said everything goes bad.
00:30:05So what went bad for him in Q1?
00:30:08Hi, Crofty.
00:30:10It's the third sector, as I think, and we're showing, looking at the coverage.
00:30:17Entry to 16 and then exit of 17.
00:30:20Both Fernando and Lance lost two, three tenths there.
00:30:25So, yeah, frustrating.
00:30:27Andy, the car looked so good yesterday, particularly with this downforce that we know worked well for you in Hungary, for example.
00:30:34How do we explain to the fans why you've sort of slipped back down the field when it looks so good?
00:30:42I think, you know, everybody else pushes and improves.
00:30:45We've made set-up changes to push and improve.
00:30:48And then, you know, as you know, it's down to one single lap in qualifying, and it looks like we've lost out in one area, really, 16, 17.
00:31:01So all the engineers are looking at that at the moment and seeing what we can do to help Fernando as we go through to Q2.
00:31:09Absolutely.
00:31:09Thanks, Andy.
00:31:10We'll be back with you, hopefully, at the end of Q2.
00:31:14Hülkenberg, Alonso, Albon separated by, what, six one-hundredths of a second at the end of that Q1 session.
00:31:21And, as I say, we've got a delay to the start of Q2 due to the fact that they need to recover that Alpine car and the yellow flag checks, we're being told, by the FIA as well.
00:31:34And Hamilton, Russell and Norris, the top three after the end of Q1.
00:31:40I mentioned Lewis Hamilton, four-time pole sitter here.
00:31:43He's got an incredible record in Singapore.
00:31:45After qualifying in the top five for all 15 Singapore Grand Prix's ever held.
00:31:52Horses for courses, they say, Ted Pravitz.
00:31:55It's the prancing horses for courses for Lewis Hamilton here this year.
00:32:00Yes, I'm trying to think of some kind of link to Williams.
00:32:03But he hasn't driven for Williams.
00:32:05I can't really do some sort of horse equine-related pun to Williams, so I'm just going to tell you about that.
00:32:10Or trot on, then, sir.
00:32:11Trot on, very good.
00:32:12A bit of a difficult qualifying so far.
00:32:15Don't say it too loudly.
00:32:16Carlos Sainz, only 11th.
00:32:18Alex Albon just missing out, just scraping into Q2 by a tenth.
00:32:23So, you know, I know Williams thought that they were going to have a slightly, well, they actually thought they were going to have a slightly tougher weekend here than in Baku.
00:32:32But that is really, and they used three sets of tyres, I believe, according to my information.
00:32:36I saw them go out on new sets quite a lot.
00:32:39So, Gabriel Bortoletto, I've got to tell you, also is still sat in the car.
00:32:43They're just checking at Sauber that no one, such as Yuki Tsunoda, are going to get called up for a yellow flag infringement.
00:32:50There are a couple of other cars that Sauber believe sped under the yellow flag.
00:32:54But, yeah, we're still waiting.
00:32:56Is it a barrier replacement we're waiting?
00:32:57Or waiting for the Gasly car to be cleared away?
00:33:00We have three minutes to go to the start of Q2.
00:33:04They've recovered the car, they've checked the yellow flags, and we'll be ready to go.
00:33:08Martin?
00:33:09Yeah, this is an advantage, Max Verstappen.
00:33:11He's got four new sets of tyres left.
00:33:14The others, like Norris Leclerc, Hamilton and Russell Antonelli, have got three.
00:33:19Oscar Piastri has got two new sets of tyres left, although one of his used set just did that out and in, basically, from the yellow flag situation.
00:33:30So, and Hadjar, too.
00:33:31Isaac Hadjar got through that using one new set of tyres, so he did very well, too.
00:33:37He's sitting pretty tyre-wise, but we'd have to say, Verstappen has now got the upper hand and able to go out and nail four brand new sets.
00:33:48And that's two per session, if required, at the front runners.
00:33:54Max Verstappen with the most amount of poles of any driver so far this season as well.
00:33:59Six of them in 2025 and polled, of course, in the last two races.
00:34:04Now, up on our timing screens, we're told Bortoletto, Hülkenberg, Tsunoda-Russell and Stroll have been noted for a yellow flag infringement.
00:34:14Ant pointed this out on the skypad, and we've seen this as for, did they or did they not?
00:34:18Lift-off enough when the yellow flags came out for Pierre Gasly.
00:34:24Lance Stroll's been looked at, no further investigation on that one.
00:34:27He, of course, is already out of this qualifying session.
00:34:30But Tsunoda and Bortoletto and Hülkenberg and Russell are going to be investigated after the session.
00:34:36Oh, so George Russell did go past the yellow flag and he wasn't just in front of it.
00:34:43And the two Saubers did, as we suspected.
00:34:47It's a pity they can't do that now, isn't it?
00:34:49Because that's so crucial.
00:34:50I hate to say this, this could be a late night until we know what the grid is then.
00:34:54Yeah.
00:34:54I mean, it's always a late night in Singapore.
00:34:57It's half past nine on this Saturday evening here.
00:35:00But that's going to take a bit of sorting out after the qualifying session.
00:35:04Yeah.
00:35:05But some drivers, Tsunoda is through now.
00:35:10Yeah.
00:35:10Where was Russell?
00:35:12I think Russell was through anyway, wasn't he?
00:35:13Yeah.
00:35:13In the top 15.
00:35:14But Tsunoda went from last to 10th with that.
00:35:17He's now through into the next phase.
00:35:21And it's such a shame we can't know that right now.
00:35:24But there's a lot to look into.
00:35:25A lot of data, a lot of video, a lot of throttle traces and what have you that Ant was showing us on the skypad.
00:35:32Yeah, we can listen to the audio.
00:35:34We can show you the footage.
00:35:36But when it comes to the data traces, they need to be pulled up.
00:35:40And it takes a little while, as you say.
00:35:43But I think it is a shame.
00:35:44I'd rather, Martin, say five or ten minutes if we could to sort that out now.
00:35:49And that's why they kept Bortoletto sitting in the car just in case a driver got kicked out through yellow flag infringements.
00:35:57But they did, several cars did a better lap by going past that yellow flag and giving a merest breathe on the throttle.
00:36:06Well, Simon and Jensen and Jamie will be downloading and debating the incidents in qualifying after the chequered flag has fallen.
00:36:16And if we haven't got the results, well, don't forget skysports.com slash F1 for all your F1 news.
00:36:22And we'll bring it to you as soon as we possibly can if we've gone off air here in Singapore.
00:36:27We have a green light and there are some of you watching at home and watching our coverage.
00:36:34Or if your mate's lucky enough to be in a grandstand, you'll get a very fine video message there straight from the mobile phone.
00:36:40Either way, now we're saying Q2 will start at 21.32.
00:36:45So they've delayed it for an extra minute, even after saying green light pit exit open about half a minute ago.
00:36:52The cars will tick over quite nicely down at the end of the pit lane, but Max wants to, they're resetting the lights at the moment,
00:37:00but Max wants to get out there on this occasion and get the time done.
00:37:06Right, here we go then.
00:37:08Out of the pit lane comes Max Verstappen.
00:37:12So the stewards will be looking at those drivers after the session from that yellow flag incident.
00:37:18George Russell, well, he was setting green sectors, he was setting some mini green sectors in between the Marshall posts as well.
00:37:25But you can still do that and lift off when the track is improving and when you're a bit more dialled in as a driver.
00:37:31But you need to see how long they were lifting for.
00:37:34I'll be surprised if, like you, Ksenada, they don't all, they know the rules,
00:37:38that they don't all give it a breather on the throttle.
00:37:40And the track evolution and the driver evolution was such that it's still worth completing that lap.
00:37:47And if you're, in the case of George Russell, if your first time was good enough to get into Q2,
00:37:53even if you're found to have not lifted off properly,
00:37:56and you would have been in it anyway if that lap time was deleted,
00:38:00do they let you off as stewards or is that a...
00:38:02Yeah, they just delete that time, but it kind of doesn't matter anymore, does it?
00:38:05They're through.
00:38:06They're through.
00:38:07They're through.
00:38:07You know, those that are not through are parked up.
00:38:10So you can't unravel that.
00:38:12You can't rewind as such.
00:38:15Right, on board then with Carlos Sainz,
00:38:18who has reached Q3 twice in the last three races,
00:38:21which has been a brilliant achievement,
00:38:23given that he missed Q3 for the seven races before that.
00:38:27He's out on track and joining him,
00:38:30Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Isaac Hadja's out there already.
00:38:34Verstappen and Hadja just using the one set of new soft tyres
00:38:37during the first part of qualifying.
00:38:39Behrman's out there.
00:38:40Oli Behrman, superlaps from him.
00:38:42We've got two outliers amongst the sort of usual front runners in Hadja and Behrman.
00:38:47Yeah.
00:38:48That could spoil the day.
00:38:49And watch Holkenberg a bit tonight.
00:38:51I know he's not been in Q3 this season,
00:38:53but don't forget his record here at the Marina Bay circuit is pretty good.
00:38:57Six consecutive Q3 appearances.
00:39:00We've been talking about this weekend.
00:39:01It's a circuit where the driver makes a difference.
00:39:03And if you go well here for a couple of years,
00:39:06you tend to carry on going well.
00:39:07This man has never been on pole, Martin.
00:39:09So take us through this lap.
00:39:11Interesting that he didn't feel the need to use any extra space
00:39:13on the outside of the braking zone into turn one.
00:39:17And he's carrying plenty of speed through turn five, isn't he?
00:39:20Up against the wall.
00:39:21It's a long right-hand curve now
00:39:24where you just sort of release your grip on the steering wheel.
00:39:27Don't use any meters that you don't have to.
00:39:30Lean on the curb through the exit to arrest any slide.
00:39:33And this is a block change.
00:39:3490 left and the 90 right.
00:39:36We're in now.
00:39:37And again, a sweep across the track for another block change.
00:39:4190-degree left-hander down to the bottom.
00:39:45We lost the beautiful little chicane in there back in 2013,
00:39:49which I rather enjoyed the Singapore flyer.
00:39:52But they don't do that anymore.
00:39:54Over the Anderson Bridge, cars have been going over there since 1910,
00:39:57but never this fast.
00:40:00Max Verstappen then eases diagonally down that straight.
00:40:04DRS open, downhill braking point.
00:40:07And then use all the space on the outside to minimize the angle of the corner.
00:40:11He'll hug a little bit left here to save meters.
00:40:14Save a few, a car length or two.
00:40:17And this is a critical braking point.
00:40:19You've got to connect with that curb on the inside.
00:40:22Keep the back end under control.
00:40:24Now you've just got to be brave through the last corner.
00:40:26Pinned the throttle, car changes direction incredibly quickly.
00:40:30And Verstappen over the line, a 29.7.
00:40:34That's a great marker.
00:40:35That's three tenths faster than he managed with his best lap in Q1, too.
00:40:39Look how floaty as well.
00:40:41Getting to that Anderson Bridge part.
00:40:43And he was a blur on the steering wheel as the car got really light on him.
00:40:47And I say he's not been on pole.
00:40:48He's not been on pole here.
00:40:49He has, of course, been on pole 67 times in his career.
00:40:53Elsewhere, one of two tracks on the calendar, of course,
00:40:56Max Verstappen hasn't got that pole position.
00:41:00But that was three tracks before backing at last time out.
00:41:03And there's Vegas to come after this.
00:41:05Hadja slots in four tenths behind him.
00:41:07Behrman ahead of Alex Albon.
00:41:10Let's watch Charles Leclerc now as he continues on his way.
00:41:13And Hadja getting out of the way nicely.
00:41:15Minimum speed through that quarter we just saw to the straight.
00:41:1890 miles an hour, minimum speed.
00:41:19And then they lean up against the wall.
00:41:22This is a key overtaking place in the race tomorrow.
00:41:25But for now, you've just got to minimize the angle of the corners.
00:41:30Maximize your apex speed.
00:41:32That's the job of the drivers.
00:41:35Do not break too early.
00:41:36As I say, you might as well go home if you break too early.
00:41:39George Russell with the fastest first sector of a 26.6.
00:41:44He's put at least a tenth on the rest.
00:41:46Fernando Alonso slots in the third.
00:41:48Carlos Sainz in the fourth.
00:41:49Liam Lawson goes sixth.
00:41:51That would be getting made his debut in Formula One here a couple of years ago.
00:41:54And at the end of Q2, knocked Max Verstappen out of the top ten.
00:41:58And this is used tyres for George Russell.
00:42:00So first sector shaping up extremely well.
00:42:04So revs on the downshift there.
00:42:06And back end of the car.
00:42:07So his tyres are starting to get hot now.
00:42:09And he's got a zigzag between these two cars.
00:42:12And this is the problem they have in the final few corners.
00:42:15Where the surface of the tyres just screaming.
00:42:19Changes the property of the compound of the tyre.
00:42:23And this is where I think Aston Martin is struggling as well.
00:42:25Right in this part here.
00:42:27Where your tyres have really had enough.
00:42:29And George having to be quite careful through there.
00:42:32Let's see how it turns out on the overall lap.
00:42:34Round the final corner comes George Russell.
00:42:37Goes fourth fastest.
00:42:39He's half a second down on Max Verstappen.
00:42:43We were watching Charles Leclerc's lap.
00:42:45I thought he backed off a little bit.
00:42:46He did back off a little bit.
00:42:48So he wasn't happy with what was going on.
00:42:50As Kimi Antonelli now goes second fastest.
00:42:53And I think he's right there in the mix tonight.
00:42:55Lando Norris you would expect to be in the mix by the end of it.
00:42:58He's two tenths down though on Max Verstappen after that lap.
00:43:02But he is on used tyres.
00:43:03He's on used tyres.
00:43:04We've heard Geperra Lambiezi, Max Verstappen's engine is saying we think you're safe with that.
00:43:10They'll give him three brand new sets of tyres for Q3.
00:43:15He can just go out and pound the laps in.
00:43:17And if he does save one, that might come in handy for late safety cars in the race tomorrow.
00:43:23Or save one for the race, yeah.
00:43:24Piastri goes second fastest.
00:43:26Now Max Verstappen has someone within a tenth of a second.
00:43:29And we go back on board with Lewis Hamilton.
00:43:32Out of the left-hander and across the Esplanade we go.
00:43:36And his teammate Charles Leclerc is on a flying lap at the same time.
00:43:39Leclerc's a tenth up on Hamilton through the first sector.
00:43:43And we'll see what happens by the time he gets to the end of sector two.
00:43:48So two Ferraris out there and no traffic to speak of to get in their way either.
00:43:53Into turn 16 and now 17.
00:43:56That chicane is so important to get a good exit.
00:43:59He wasn't as close to the wall as some have been, Hamilton there.
00:44:02To then carry the speed out of the final corners, down the straight to the line.
00:44:05Hamilton third fastest, just under two tenths down.
00:44:08And Charles Leclerc lost time to Hamilton.
00:44:11Three tenths down to Hamilton.
00:44:13In the middle sector.
00:44:14Yeah, that was a very calming lap there for Piastri's night.
00:44:18And a good lap from him.
00:44:20Lewis splitting the two McLarens.
00:44:22What's his teammate able to do?
00:44:25He's done a couple of personal bests.
00:44:27And where does he turn up?
00:44:30So Charles Leclerc is down in P13.
00:44:34And below him Alex Albon.
00:44:35And below him Kimi Antonelli.
00:44:37While we were focusing just there with the pictures on Ferrari.
00:44:41Kimi Antonelli was second fastest at one stage.
00:44:44Has had his lap time deleted.
00:44:46So that's why he's down there with no time whatsoever.
00:44:49And he's had it deleted because he's exceeded track limits.
00:44:52So Leclerc is really on board with Lewis Hamilton.
00:44:55Leclerc's done three personal bests because obviously his first big effort in Q2.
00:45:01But it's only left him 13th.
00:45:03I said he'd lost three tenths to Lewis during the middle sector on that lap.
00:45:09But that is not good.
00:45:10This is...
00:45:12Has he hit the wall?
00:45:13Yeah, he did.
00:45:14His teammate hit the wall in FP2 last night.
00:45:17Hits the wall with the left rear.
00:45:19And then that swings the right left front as well around.
00:45:26And boom, they both go to the wall.
00:45:28And this is Antonelli's track excursion.
00:45:30I mean, that was tight.
00:45:33And you could argue at that speed from the on board, it looked like he was on the line.
00:45:37But there'll be a static camera somewhere looking at that from a head-on shot
00:45:40that will show the stewards whether he was over the line or not.
00:45:45Closest to the wall so far, Charles Leclerc, because he's hit it.
00:45:49It looked like minus two centimetres, didn't it?
00:45:53Yeah.
00:45:54Right.
00:45:55Just time to hold your breath or ease your breath for a little while
00:46:00because now the cars are back in the garages, getting ready for a final run.
00:46:05And it's all to do for Kimi Antonelli, who hasn't got a time on the board.
00:46:10It's all to do for Alex Albon.
00:46:11It's all to do for Charles Leclerc, Yuki Simoda and Liam Lawson.
00:46:17But theoretically, even Alex Albon just needs to improve by two tenths.
00:46:22It is that tight down there.
00:46:23From Isaac Hadja, I'll say Lando Norris, who's currently fourth fastest,
00:46:28all the way down to Alex Albon, less than half a second.
00:46:33Yeah, you certainly can't.
00:46:35Lando Norris can't feel confident with a 30 flat, slightly slower than he did in Q1,
00:46:40albeit with the used tyres.
00:46:41What have you got for us, Ted?
00:46:43I've got the lesser spotted Max Verstappen on new tyres again.
00:46:47A little bit of a kerfuffle as Haas tries to blend in with both racing bulls coming out the garage.
00:46:52But Max has put another new set on.
00:46:54Hey, he's got 83 sets of them.
00:46:55He might as well put another one on.
00:46:57Fresh tyres for Lando as well, passing me.
00:47:00Waiting to see what Oscar Piastri does.
00:47:02But for me, the focus has to be on Charles Leclerc.
00:47:06Charles Leclerc, he's got to find four tenths, really, hasn't he, to be absolutely safe.
00:47:10Scrappy so far in this session for Charles Leclerc, and we'll see.
00:47:15But Oscar Piastri's engineer, Crofty, congratulating him on a good lap for P2 on those used tyres.
00:47:25And it is a fresh tyres now for Piastri.
00:47:27So are we about to see what Piastri's got on some new tyres,
00:47:32which we think are worth, what, the better part of two tenths over a used set?
00:47:36Let's see.
00:47:37About that. Let's see.
00:47:39Yeah, there's no point.
00:47:40I mean, they think Max is safe, but it's looking so close up there.
00:47:44There's no point in having endless sets of new tyres available,
00:47:48but to be eleventh on the grid, is there?
00:47:50So they may as well use them.
00:47:52Right.
00:47:53Seven tenths of a second.
00:47:55Separate.
00:47:55Max Verstappen down to Alex Albon.
00:47:58Everyone's got a time on the board, apart from Kimi Antonelli.
00:48:01He did have a time of a 1.29.8.
00:48:03It got deleted because he exceeded track limits.
00:48:06Otherwise, he'd have been P3 and maybe sitting quite comfortably.
00:48:11Let's see how he gets on on this lap then.
00:48:13Yeah, so just to remind you, this sets the grid for 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 places.
00:48:20But the top ten, all it does is get you another go at the game.
00:48:24That's not a great first setter for Antonelli.
00:48:27Once you've gone over the line once, are you a little bit cautious, I wonder, in that part of the track again?
00:48:33Almost certainly.
00:48:33Oh, the back end trying to step out on him.
00:48:38So much torque, so much twisting power from these motors.
00:48:41Guys, a lot of speed through there.
00:48:43Now, the little Mickey Mouse bit onto the Anderson Bridge.
00:48:48All looking nice and sweeping.
00:48:50Is it fast enough, though?
00:48:52Russell's gone fastest of anybody in the first sector.
00:48:55Antonelli then needs to get this lap done.
00:48:58And he's fastest in the middle sector.
00:49:01That's work to treat.
00:49:02And hopefully, he's got some tyres left for the crucial final few corners.
00:49:06This happened a couple of times in FP2 as well.
00:49:08Or in FP3, and Antonelli.
00:49:11I wonder if it's not bringing his tyres into the right working window at the start of the lap.
00:49:16Because then he nails the middle sector when they get up to the right temperature.
00:49:19Round the final corners we go.
00:49:22Has he done enough?
00:49:24Yeah.
00:49:241.29.6 for Kimi Antonelli.
00:49:27How about that to handle the pressure?
00:49:29Super, super lap from the young man.
00:49:32Meanwhile, his teammate George Russell out on track at the moment.
00:49:35When he finishes this lap, they'll tell him no further investigation for that yellow flag infringement.
00:49:40So there's no possibility of a grip penalty for that particular incident.
00:49:44So George Russell home and free.
00:49:47Now he's just got to free wheel it through these last two corners.
00:49:49Let's see how he lifts off.
00:49:51Just, yeah, smashes the throttle.
00:49:54Accelerate.
00:49:54And he's fastest.
00:49:55Everyone's on new tyres now, so we'll start to get a really good idea of the pecking order with everyone running fresh rubber.
00:50:03And just nine hundredths of a second, give or take, between Russell and Antonelli.
00:50:07And now we know why Verstappen is on another new set of tyres, don't we?
00:50:11Yeah.
00:50:12The evolution of Formula One here at Singapore.
00:50:15And every lap that goes by, they're going faster and faster as Verstappen now goes second fastest and splits.
00:50:21The two Mercedes cars.
00:50:24And there's barely a tenth of a second between them.
00:50:28Projected knockout time of 1.30.0.
00:50:32So Alex Albon, where can he go?
00:50:33Ninth place only for Alex Albon.
00:50:35It's a 1.30.2.
00:50:37That might not be enough.
00:50:39Lawson improving in the first sector.
00:50:41Behrman's put in a 26.7, which is a tenth of a second ahead of him.
00:50:46And Lawson is one we know that could get into the top ten here.
00:50:50And he's certainly done that in the past.
00:50:51Alonso is there in P8 currently.
00:50:54Alex Albon just behind him at P9.
00:50:56Round the corners we go with Isaac Hadja, who was second fastest to Max Verstappen.
00:51:01At the end of Q1, Hadja crosses the line.
00:51:03Only seventh fastest for Isaac Hadja, who's only improved by two tenths on his Q1 performance.
00:51:10As Behrman now goes eighth fastest, pushes Sainz down into that bottom five.
00:51:14That takes all the pressure off Norris, for example, and Hamilton.
00:51:17But Norris will want to keep his eye in.
00:51:19Will want to understand where the track is at.
00:51:22Carlos Sainz then in that bottom five and out of qualifying.
00:51:26As I know Norris, a little bit unsteady going through the penultimate corner.
00:51:29But goes fourth fastest ahead of his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who's just starting his final flying lap in this session.
00:51:36Charles Leclerc.
00:51:37Where is Charles Leclerc on the track?
00:51:38He's currently here towards turn ten.
00:51:41And that wasn't the greatest of first sectors, but it wasn't the worst first sector either.
00:51:47He's under pressure, Charles Leclerc.
00:51:48And McLaren appear to be missing a quarter of a second as well, unless Piastri could do something about that.
00:51:55But his first two sectors suggest otherwise.
00:51:58Twice a pole sitter here in Singapore.
00:52:00Charles Leclerc hasn't qualified outside the top ten since he was 13th on the grid in 2018.
00:52:07This is not looking particularly great.
00:52:08A 37-7 for the middle sector, whilst that might be a personal best.
00:52:14Still a couple of tenths outside where he wants to be.
00:52:16Alex Albon's out of qualifying.
00:52:18Nico Hülkenberg has just put his salva into the top ten.
00:52:22Can Charles Leclerc dispose Hülkenberg?
00:52:25Yes, he can.
00:52:25He goes P6, pushes Hülkenberg down into 11th.
00:52:28He left it late, but he performed and did just enough to get through into P6 by the time he finished his final lap.
00:52:37Well, better late than never.
00:52:40And that is it, isn't it?
00:52:41There's nobody else out there that can deliver a last lap gasp.
00:52:46So Charles Leclerc actually ends up slightly ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
00:52:50But they're three four tenths shy of the ultimate pace.
00:52:54So Ferrari struggling a little bit tonight.
00:52:57But it also seems as if, I mean, the staff have got a great chance here.
00:53:02And Mercedes have got a great chance here of being ahead of the McLarens.
00:53:06They've got to find something special in Q3.
00:53:09Yeah, I was going to say, the two McLarens are a couple of tenths off the pace here.
00:53:12And the pace is being set after Q2 by George Russell, Mr. Saturday, coming alive under the lights.
00:53:19But Verstappen and Antonelli and Russell separated by less than a tenth.
00:53:22Lovely lap from Oli Behrman.
00:53:25Lovely lap from Fernando Alonso getting into that top ten at the expense of Nico Hülkenberg,
00:53:30who misses out on Q3 here for the first time in seven years.
00:53:33Alex Albon misses out, as does his teammate Carlos Sainz.
00:53:37Liam Lawson, brilliant efforts in qualifying for P14.
00:53:40And Yuki Tsunoda last in Q2.

00:55:38Closer to the raw speed.
00:55:42Closer to edge of the seat decisions.
00:55:45And closer to...
00:55:47Okay, that might be too close.
00:55:51Get closer to F1 with real-time data and insights powered by AWS.
00:55:56Yeah, disappointing for both Williamses.
00:56:08So I've got them teed up here to have a look at what went wrong.
00:56:11I mean, it's a small moment, I'd say, for Alex Albon.
00:56:14Only on the exit of turn 11-12.
00:56:16That moment there is all I can find.
00:56:18So I just don't think the car quite had the pace in it through the rest of the lap.
00:56:23Now, I haven't actually seen this one.
00:56:24This clip's only just arrived in that break that we've had.
00:56:27So let's watch what happens to Sainz on the exit of turn 14.
00:56:31A bit of understeer mid-corner.
00:56:33And, yeah, just fighting the rear end there.
00:56:35So both drivers actually having problems with the rear end of the car
00:56:39and the combined traction when you're cornering
00:56:41and got the longitudinal acceleration at the same time.
00:56:45Not quite sure, like, what else they could have really done with that.
00:56:48And then, yeah, we've got this one with Kimi Antonelli.
00:56:51We obviously saw it real-time.
00:56:53It's very hard to see in the heat of the moment.
00:56:56But this is the lap where it got deleted for track limit.
00:56:59So I'll just slow it down for you.
00:57:00So the thing you're looking out for, obviously, is this, the edge of this white line.
00:57:04Not the outside bit.
00:57:05Not like that.
00:57:06It's that bit on the inside that you're looking at.
00:57:10So if the tyre goes over that, or all four tyres go over that, then you're in trouble.
00:57:14So I believe he's still on it here.
00:57:16And I'm looking at that part of the white line as my reference as well, don't forget.
00:57:20So I think the biggest part where he goes over is about, it's about there, isn't it?
00:57:27That's the widest he goes.
00:57:29But I just, for me, this is so close.
00:57:32So, I mean, they went again, but at a cost of another set of fresh tyres, of course.
00:57:37But I'll leave it up to you.
00:57:39I think if you were looking at this from the top down, remember, the tyre is bulbous, so it sticks out more.
00:57:45But for me, I feel this is too close to call from this angle.
00:57:49Maybe the stewards have a different CCTV view or whatever to have a look at it.
00:57:53But it forced him to go out again.
00:57:55And then on the exit of turn three, he's had this moment, pushing on.
00:58:00Obviously not through the first turn.
00:58:02He was a bit more sensible there, a bit more cautious.
00:58:04But on the exit, he had a massive snap of oversteer.
00:58:08But he got the job done anyway.
00:58:10Still under investigation, of course, is the Hülkenberg moment through the yellow flags.
00:58:15Now, did he lift off enough through Q1?
00:58:18Let's have a listen.
00:58:21I think he's going to be OK with that one as well.
00:58:24So Russell was cleared.
00:58:25But just listening to that, I think Hülkenberg did the right thing.
00:58:28There's no more he could have really done lifting off any more on the exit of turn 10.
00:58:32So back to you, Crofty.
00:58:33Thank you, Ant.
00:58:34Confirmation Russell and Stroll have been cleared there.
00:58:37The stewards, I think, do have a static camera down at turn one.
00:58:41I'll have a word with Cameron from the FIA.
00:58:43So see if he'll send me a picture of it.
00:58:44Meanwhile, let's go to Andy Cowell.
00:58:47Who's got a man in 2Q3?
00:58:49Fernando Alonso.
00:58:50You know, the young drivers, they make all the difference, Andy, don't they?
00:58:54Hello, Crofty.
00:58:55Yeah, no, that was a good session.
00:58:5816, 17, very clean, especially on that last lap.
00:59:01So that's pleasing to see Fernando go through.
00:59:04We just need to find a little bit more now.
00:59:05So was that all about not using the tyres quite so hard earlier on in the lap?
00:59:11Yeah, it's a balance as to how you spend the tyres through the lap preparation work on the out lap.
00:59:17And it's an unforgiving circuit, isn't it?
00:59:20So it's about stitching it all together.
00:59:24Good luck with that, Andy.
00:59:25Thank you very much.
00:59:26You just saw the top three in the championship projected onto the Marina Bay Sands.
00:59:32Oscar Piastri, 324 points.
00:59:34Lando Norris, 299.
00:59:36Max Verstappen, 255.
00:59:39And the way this qualifying is looking tonight, you've got to include Max Verstappen in the title hunt.
00:59:44He might have ruled himself out a few races ago, Martin Brundle,
00:59:47but he has put himself, with his driving, back in the hunt.
00:59:52Yeah, it's a tall order because he's got to score all the big points in all the remaining races.
00:59:57And who to say a Ferrari or a Mercedes won't do that?
01:00:02So we're a few seconds away from the restart, and we'll go down to Ted.
01:00:06Got to include Mercedes after that lap from George Russell.
01:00:10Yes, he did it after Max Verstappen, but still, they are in it.
01:00:13Russell's in it.
01:00:14Verstappen's in it.
01:00:15I'm looking forward to this crafting.
01:00:16Verstappen's in it.
01:00:17You've got to say, where is McLaren's pace?
01:00:20Haven't seen it yet.
01:00:21Norris and Piastri have to be in it.
01:00:23But, if they do, it'll be some kind of turnaround.
01:00:27Just looking down towards the cars lining up at the end.
01:00:31A bit of a shout-out for Isaac Hadjar.
01:00:33Scraped through in, I think it was P8 or P9, P8 in Q2.
01:00:37He said it was a terrible lap property,
01:00:39and he's got much more gas in the tank in terms of performance.
01:00:43He'll only have three laps of gas in the tank, literally,
01:00:46but he thinks he can do better and be a factor, maybe in the top six.
01:00:49It might be a night race here, but, of course, it's brighter than a grey day at Silverstone
01:00:53or a grey day anywhere else, for that matter.
01:00:56It really isn't an issue.
01:00:57And the lights are so good that you don't get shadows across the track
01:01:01as you can at, for example, Le Mans or Daytona 24 hours.
01:01:06Never, ever seen a grey day at Silverstone ever,
01:01:09and I won't have you say that ever again, Martin Brundt.
01:01:11And the sun always shines on the home of the Formula One World Championship
01:01:15from 1950, where we started this title,
01:01:19this great sporting championship 75 years ago.
01:01:24We have three rookies in the top ten here going for pole here in Singapore.
01:01:30We have Mercedes with two cars in the top ten here in Singapore,
01:01:34and they've started in the top three in each of the last five Marina Bay races.
01:01:38We have five, sorry, six poles between them,
01:01:42the two Ferraris, Leclerc and Hamilton.
01:01:45We have Fernando Alonso, who hasn't been on pole,
01:01:47well, since you were wearing short trousers, Martin,
01:01:494,823 days ago.
01:01:52We have the two McLarens of Norris and Piastri,
01:01:54where's their pace?
01:01:55And we have Verstappen, who has been setting some pace.
01:01:59I've got that little knot in my stomach,
01:02:00like I get in final qualifying in Monaco,
01:02:03because that's always been the big one, hasn't it?
01:02:05But this is so close. This is tense.
01:02:10Behrman, Leclerc and Alonso,
01:02:12the only three going for their first lap sitting Q3 on used soft tyres.
01:02:17Everyone else is on the new tyres.
01:02:20It's a Saturday.
01:02:21Let's feature George Russell, shall we,
01:02:24and see his way through the rest of the three miles on his first flying lap.
01:02:28He's been pretty much Mr. Everyday this year, hasn't he?
01:02:30And going very well indeed.
01:02:32We've yet to hear that he'll be signed up for a Mercedes next year,
01:02:36but, of course, he will be once they sort a few things out.
01:02:39This is already turn seven.
01:02:42Here we go.
01:02:43And these are the 90-degree block changes I was telling about.
01:02:47They're very reminiscent, actually, of American street circuits,
01:02:50but there are parts later on that are not.
01:02:52So quite a long back straight now.
01:02:55And there's a little right kink on the way in,
01:02:58which just unsettles the car.
01:03:01And now you've already got to thread the car through here,
01:03:04through the eye of a needle.
01:03:05There's a little right hander onto the Anderson Bridge,
01:03:07but you're immediately on the brake.
01:03:09So important to get into this corner, onto the back straight.
01:03:12DRS will now be open as you press the throttle so hard,
01:03:17it's a wonder it doesn't go through the bulkhead,
01:03:20because you've just never got enough power down there.
01:03:23And, of course, he's fastest of anybody,
01:03:27because he's the only one that's really set those proper sector tyres.
01:03:31That is George Russell.
01:03:33And he's flying.
01:03:34Oh, that's a hard hit in the wall.
01:03:36Well, he's going to carry on, and he's going to finish the lap here,
01:03:40but that was less than a millimetre away
01:03:43from a car-breaking collision with a wall for George Russell.
01:03:4729.1, though.
01:03:48That's a cracking lap time.
01:03:51But they make them strong, those Mercedes F1 cars.
01:03:54They certainly do.
01:03:55George Russell's only been quickest in Q2 at one other race this season.
01:03:58That was Canada.
01:04:00He won the race from pole.
01:04:01He's still fastest as his teammate crosses the line.
01:04:03Kimi Antonelli with a 1.29.5,
01:04:06and Oli Behrman on the used tyres with a 1.30.1.
01:04:09Here's Lando Norris now.
01:04:1126.6 in the 37.6 for the first two sectors,
01:04:15neither of which better anything George Russell did,
01:04:18and he's probably about four tenths down on George Russell.
01:04:21Fernando Alonso can't go faster than Behrman.
01:04:23He's on the used soft tyres as well.
01:04:25Hamilton and Leclerc, 26.7 for the first sector.
01:04:29Piatri in touching distance with a 26.5 in the first sector.
01:04:32Here comes Lando Norris then round the final corner.
01:04:35Pole sitter here last year.
01:04:36What is this lap doing?
01:04:38Four tenths down, only third.
01:04:40Wow.
01:04:41That's a long way down, isn't it?
01:04:43So, a lot of work to do for McLaren.
01:04:46Rob, we talked about leaving no time on the table.
01:04:49That's George Russell's lap, isn't it?
01:04:50He threw that car at every corner.
01:04:54Charles Leclerc goes fourth fastest in his Ferrari,
01:04:58ahead of Isaac Hadja.
01:05:00Lewis Hamilton will be next across the line.
01:05:02Piastri nearly three tenths down through the first two sectors.
01:05:06Hamilton, four fastest ahead then of Leclerc,
01:05:09but a long way off the pace.
01:05:10Verstappen has gone fastest in the middle sector.
01:05:13He's a couple of tenths down on George Russell,
01:05:15and these are just the first flying runs in Q3.
01:05:18We've got a whole load more to come.
01:05:19Where's Piastri?
01:05:20Going to put his McLaren.
01:05:22Goes second fastest, ahead of Kimi Antonelli,
01:05:25and ahead, crucially for him, of his teammate Lando Norris.
01:05:29Verstappen will be next across the line.
01:05:31He's been setting the pace here all day long,
01:05:34but on this occasion, he has to play second fiddle
01:05:37to George Russell, who's on provisional pole.
01:05:40History was blinding through the final corner,
01:05:44but it still wasn't enough to make the difference.
01:05:46But they will go again.
01:05:48Verstappen, and that's quite a lot of time
01:05:50to find a couple of tenths.
01:05:51That was some kind of lap from George Russell, wasn't it?
01:05:55Wall-assisted lap.
01:05:57Was it 2018?
01:05:59Paul DeResta, I think, was still alongside me.
01:06:01He described Lewis Hamilton's pole lap here in Singapore
01:06:04as a championship-winning pole lap.
01:06:07And this lap from George reminds me a bit of that.
01:06:10He either felt that bang as well.
01:06:13Yeah, it probably saved the gearbox
01:06:14that he just kept his foot buried in it.
01:06:16But it's a wonder he didn't break a tie rod or something,
01:06:21or a bit of carbon suspension.
01:06:24But he had the gumption to just carry on.
01:06:29I tell you what, if that suspension had failed
01:06:30in the last corner, he didn't know about it.
01:06:32But that is why they get paid the big dollar.
01:06:35And Oscar Piastri scraping the wall as well.
01:06:38And here's McLaren.
01:06:40This is, because it's so close,
01:06:42the drivers are having to do this.
01:06:44And they want to get on that yellow piece.
01:06:46It's got more grip than the serrated kerb.
01:06:48They want to be out there,
01:06:49and they don't want to be quite that far out there.
01:06:51But when you sit in the cockpit of these cars,
01:06:53there's an awful lot of real estate,
01:06:56of machinery behind you.
01:06:58The back of the car is wide and long.
01:07:01It's a wonder you could judge it, you know,
01:07:03to that extreme.
01:07:04Or maybe they're just getting away with it a little bit.
01:07:07But the best thing about that first part of qualifying
01:07:10is we've got another part to come as well,
01:07:13in terms of Q3.
01:07:14And that's where George Russell is making time
01:07:17on Max Verstappen,
01:07:19and quite a lot of time in straight lines.
01:07:23It's interesting, isn't it?
01:07:24It's all straight line, isn't it?
01:07:26Yeah.
01:07:26The advantage there.
01:07:30Yeah.
01:07:31George would be the silver one, presumably,
01:07:33and Max would be the orange one.
01:07:34Right, so through the corner, isn't it?
01:07:35Yeah.
01:07:35Yes.
01:07:36It's the other way around, isn't it?
01:07:38I wonder if they were just highlighting the bits.
01:07:40No, that would make more sense
01:07:42than he's making up that amount of time.
01:07:44Yeah.
01:07:45We shall see.
01:07:46Soft tyres, new soft tyres going on the cars.
01:07:49Ted Kravitz, down to you.
01:07:50So, big question for me is
01:07:52where has McLaren's speed gone,
01:07:54and do they have anything else?
01:07:55The sector times just suggest
01:07:57that they're slower in all three sectors.
01:08:00It's Russell who's got the best first sector,
01:08:02Verstappen who's got the best last one,
01:08:03and Antonelli is quickest in the middle,
01:08:06and Oscar Piastri, a tenth off in all of them.
01:08:08But what a lap.
01:08:09That is going to take some beating.
01:08:11Two tenths quicker than Verstappen, George Russell.
01:08:14They're all lining up.
01:08:15Lewis on used soft tyres.
01:08:17So, Lewis has run out of tyres.
01:08:19Bear that in mind for this last run.
01:08:21Lewis on used soft.
01:08:22You can see they're scrubbed.
01:08:23They've not got any shiny surface on.
01:08:25Why are new tyres better?
01:08:26Even though the others have only done
01:08:2710 miles or 15 kilometres or something,
01:08:30it's because the compound hasn't had that heat cycle,
01:08:35hasn't been cured.
01:08:36They just give up a little bit of grip
01:08:38as soon as they get to full operating temperature
01:08:41and cool down again.
01:08:42That's one more cure going,
01:08:44and heat cycle going through them,
01:08:46and you lose just an ounce of grip
01:08:48that affects you braking, turning,
01:08:51mid-corner, and particularly traction.
01:08:53Three different pole-sitters
01:08:54in the last three runnings
01:08:57of the Singapore Grand Prix.
01:08:59We might well be on course for four in four here
01:09:01because George Russell,
01:09:03Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri,
01:09:04and Kimi Antonelli,
01:09:05the top four,
01:09:06none of them have been on pole
01:09:08here in Singapore before.
01:09:10The qualifying head-to-head,
01:09:12Oscar Piastri heads it at McLaren.
01:09:1310-7, little intra-team battle.
01:09:17There's no intra-team battle at Red Bull.
01:09:19Verstappen leads Tsunoda 15-0,
01:09:21make that 16-0 as he's out-qualified him again
01:09:23here this evening.
01:09:26Piastri just looks around,
01:09:27makes sure everything in place
01:09:29slows down at the end of the pit lane,
01:09:31and this is an important lap.
01:09:33And when you know that you're probably
01:09:35not chasing pole position,
01:09:36the key here for Oscar
01:09:38is to wring the neck out of his car
01:09:40and qualify ahead of his teammate.
01:09:42Lando getting towards the end
01:09:44of the out lap,
01:09:44the warm-up lap,
01:09:45going very steadily indeed,
01:09:47really trying to leave
01:09:48some life in his tyres.
01:09:50He's going to come across Verstappen
01:09:52and Piastri on their out laps.
01:09:55And he might come across them
01:09:56as they're feeding out onto the track
01:09:58as he makes his way now
01:09:59out of turn one.
01:10:01Lando Norris is going for it
01:10:02in his final flying lap,
01:10:04and he got pole position here last year.
01:10:06He's a long way off pole so far this year.
01:10:08There's the first bit of traffic,
01:10:09his teammate,
01:10:10who keeps nicely out of the way.
01:10:12He's already got past Verstappen as well.
01:10:14Now he should be okay
01:10:15all the way down the Raffles boulevards.
01:10:18I bet he wishes that Oscar Piastri
01:10:20was ahead of him a bit
01:10:20because he'd be picking up
01:10:21a nice toe here at the moment,
01:10:23but no one to help him out,
01:10:24and he's two tenths down
01:10:25in the first sector.
01:10:27It's not even a personal best for Lando,
01:10:29but we saw him really parsimonious
01:10:32with his tyres on the out lap.
01:10:34Will he get the dividend now
01:10:35in the final two sectors?
01:10:37We saw it earlier with Kimi Antonelli
01:10:39acing the middle sector
01:10:41when he had more life left in his tyres
01:10:43after a first sector
01:10:45that wasn't quite so quick.
01:10:46We'll watch Norris,
01:10:47we'll watch Charles Leclerc
01:10:48on his way down towards turn seven
01:10:51as we make our way now
01:10:53with Lando Norris out of turn 13
01:10:56and across the Esplanade,
01:10:57past the Merlion,
01:10:58one of the big tourist attractions
01:11:00here in Singapore,
01:11:01but he hasn't got time to see that,
01:11:02and he's remaining two tenths
01:11:04off the pace.
01:11:04Personal best for Norris
01:11:05in this part of qualifying, though.
01:11:07So if he's kept those tyres well,
01:11:10he'll get some dividend
01:11:11in the last few corners,
01:11:13and he needs it.
01:11:14He's got to throw caution
01:11:14to the wind now.
01:11:15He's just got to pin it
01:11:16like Russell did.
01:11:17Isaac Hadja and Charles Leclerc
01:11:19matching Lando Norris
01:11:20in the first sector
01:11:21on their laps.
01:11:22Antonelli goes a couple of tenths faster.
01:11:24Norris to the line,
01:11:25stays fifth fastest,
01:11:27and fifth fastest only
01:11:28for Lando Norris,
01:11:29and that will be
01:11:30a big disappointment for him.
01:11:32He can't out-qualify his teammate,
01:11:34and there are others
01:11:34that are queuing up
01:11:35to make his night even worse,
01:11:37and one of them
01:11:37could be Charles Leclerc,
01:11:39double pole sitter here,
01:11:41giving in absolutely everything.
01:11:42The man on provisional pole
01:11:43is George Russell,
01:11:44making his way
01:11:45across the Esplanade
01:11:46towards turn 14.
01:11:48This is the corner
01:11:48Russell crashed at
01:11:49in Q1,
01:11:50in Q2,
01:11:51and Leclerc,
01:11:52no problems there,
01:11:53goes very close to the wall,
01:11:54but gets away with it
01:11:55out of turn 17.
01:11:57It's ragged,
01:11:57but is it fast from Leclerc?
01:11:59Not enough.
01:12:00Seventh fastest.
01:12:01Russell faster than anybody
01:12:02in the middle sector
01:12:03of this lap as well.
01:12:05So he's once again
01:12:06showing the front row
01:12:08pole position pace.
01:12:09George Russell
01:12:10around the final corners,
01:12:12led Q2 in Canada,
01:12:13took pole,
01:12:14led Q2 in Singapore,
01:12:16is on provisional pole
01:12:18and has gone faster.
01:12:19Max Verstappen
01:12:20needs two tenths
01:12:21to take a first pole
01:12:23in Singapore.
01:12:24Here comes Kimi Antonelli
01:12:25around the final corner,
01:12:26stays on the second row
01:12:27behind Oscar Piastri,
01:12:29and Max Verstappen
01:12:30making his way
01:12:31towards turn 10,
01:12:32while Lewis Hamilton
01:12:33goes very close to the wall
01:12:35on the exit of turn 14.
01:12:37Big stopping zone
01:12:38coming Hamilton's way now
01:12:40into turn 16
01:12:41as we watch him
01:12:42and Verstappen
01:12:43who's going across
01:12:44the Anderson Bridge
01:12:45in a blur
01:12:46at roundabout
01:12:47100 miles an hour.
01:12:48Hamilton
01:12:49round the final two corners.
01:12:51Can he out-qualify
01:12:52his teammate Charles Leclerc?
01:12:53Yes,
01:12:54but doesn't go any further
01:12:55than P6.
01:12:56And Hamilton,
01:12:57Verstappen I should say,
01:12:59is within touching distance
01:13:00if he can produce
01:13:02one of those
01:13:02Max Verstappen final sectors.
01:13:05He has a little bit
01:13:05of traffic ahead,
01:13:06but that will get out
01:13:07of the way.
01:13:08And again,
01:13:08a man who just needs
01:13:09to carry so much speed
01:13:11through that final chicane
01:13:13and pitch it into
01:13:14the last corner.
01:13:15He's backed off.
01:13:16He has backed off.
01:13:17He doesn't believe
01:13:18he can do it.
01:13:19And as he backs off,
01:13:20the celebrations can start
01:13:21for George Russell.
01:13:22Four different pole sitters
01:13:24in four years
01:13:25here in Singapore.
01:13:27You'd have thought
01:13:27Toto Wolff
01:13:28would be smiling a bit more.
01:13:29It's George Russell
01:13:30on pole
01:13:31for the Singapore Grand Prix.
01:13:33Mercedes have come good
01:13:35on this Saturday night.
01:13:38That was a cracking
01:13:39two laps,
01:13:40wasn't it,
01:13:41from George Russell.
01:13:42Built up to that
01:13:43and delivered it
01:13:43when he needed to,
01:13:45when it really matters.
01:13:47That's it, mate.
01:13:48Well done.
01:13:49Pole position.
01:13:50Super job.
01:13:51Yeah, nice job.
01:13:52What's Toto Wolff thinking?
01:13:55Yeah, right.
01:13:56He wasn't as excited
01:13:57as I thought he would look.
01:13:58Yeah, well,
01:13:59he hasn't signed up
01:14:00for next season yet.
01:14:01Maybe he's thinking,
01:14:02Dan, that might make
01:14:03the contract negotiations
01:14:04a little more tricky.
01:14:06What is it George Russell
01:14:07is looking for
01:14:07to stay at Mercedes?
01:14:10What is it Toto Wolff
01:14:11is prepared to offer
01:14:12if he goes on
01:14:13to win the race?
01:14:14Well, those negotiations
01:14:15might just get
01:14:16a little more advantageous
01:14:17for the driver.
01:14:19But Russell and Verstappen
01:14:20on the front row,
01:14:20what a prospect
01:14:21for tomorrow night.
01:14:24Yeah, you can thank
01:14:24you, mate, for that.
01:14:26I love you too.
01:14:29And I think Verstappen
01:14:30with that answer
01:14:31might feel that
01:14:32there was a bit of time
01:14:33left out there.
01:14:35Thank you, mate, for that.
01:14:36Does he think he's been
01:14:37blocked somewhere?
01:14:40Possibly.
01:14:40I don't know why Max
01:14:41didn't come in the pit lane
01:14:41because he thought
01:14:42he abandoned
01:14:43coming out
01:14:44of the final chicane.
01:14:47Didn't have
01:14:48that much more than that.
01:14:50I don't think so.
01:14:52Hold on.
01:14:53Is McLaren's hope
01:14:54that their superior
01:14:55tyre wear pays dividends
01:14:57in what could be
01:14:57a one-stop race tomorrow?
01:14:59Or McLaren just
01:15:01realising that
01:15:02others might be
01:15:03better suited
01:15:04here in Singapore?
01:15:05But they can't
01:15:05control the race
01:15:06unless there's some drama
01:15:07on the first lap.
01:15:08McLaren can't control
01:15:09the pace of the race
01:15:10tomorrow.
01:15:12That's going to be
01:15:13controlled by
01:15:14Russell and Verstappen
01:15:15out front
01:15:16to a pace
01:15:17that suits them
01:15:18and their tyre usage
01:15:20around this
01:15:21very tight track.
01:15:23Out of his car
01:15:24leaps George Russell
01:15:25a seventh career
01:15:26pole position
01:15:27and a second pole
01:15:28in 2025
01:15:29and finally
01:15:30Toto Wolff
01:15:30is smiling.
01:15:32I'm not sure
01:15:33who he's FaceTiming
01:15:34but he's definitely
01:15:35smiling there.
01:15:36Oli Behrman
01:15:36we ought to mention
01:15:38out-qualifying
01:15:38Fernando Alonso
01:15:40on his debut
01:15:41here in Singapore.
01:15:42Isaac Hadja
01:15:43P8
01:15:44Hamilton
01:15:45ahead of Leclerc
01:15:46Norris down
01:15:47in P5
01:15:48he was about
01:15:48four tenths
01:15:49off the pole
01:15:50time of George Russell
01:15:51which for the
01:15:52129-158
01:15:54is a new
01:15:55all-time
01:15:56best lap
01:15:57record
01:15:57here in Singapore
01:15:59beating
01:16:00Lando Norris'
01:16:01lap record
01:16:01from this time
01:16:02last year.
01:16:04One o'clock
01:16:04tomorrow afternoon
01:16:05for the Singapore
01:16:06Grand Prix
01:16:07in the UK
01:16:08and George Russell
01:16:10on pole
01:16:11Max Verstappen
01:16:12on second
01:16:13and Oscar Piastri
01:16:14queuing up in third
01:16:15the championship
01:16:16leader.
01:16:18Yeah
01:16:18you can thank
01:16:19your mate
01:16:20for that
01:16:20Giampiero Lambiezi
01:16:22said
01:16:22I'm intrigued
01:16:23by that.
01:16:24Yeah
01:16:25did someone
01:16:26block him?
01:16:26Who was his mate
01:16:28out there tonight?
01:16:31We'll find out
01:16:32in a minute
01:16:32when the drivers
01:16:33start speaking
01:16:34a little bit
01:16:36more
01:16:36I wonder
01:16:38did Lando Norris
01:16:39was Lando Norris
01:16:40in and around
01:16:41Max Verstappen
01:16:42out on the track
01:16:43that would be
01:16:43that would be
01:16:44his mate.
01:16:49We'll find out
01:16:50Max has got
01:16:51many mates
01:16:52and one of them
01:16:53appeared to have
01:16:54been out on the
01:16:54track
01:16:54but maybe not
01:16:56maybe he was
01:16:56somewhere else.
01:16:58So Lewis then
01:16:59on those
01:16:59scrub tyres
01:17:00at the end
01:17:01but he still
01:17:01out qualifies
01:17:02Charles Leclerc
01:17:03his team mate
01:17:04but they're a long
01:17:05way off pole
01:17:05aren't they
01:17:06Ferrari
01:17:06it's been a tricky
01:17:08weekend for them.
01:17:10I think they just
01:17:10are where they are
01:17:11at the moment
01:17:12Ferrari
01:17:13that might be
01:17:16what they felt
01:17:17was their best
01:17:18here tonight
01:17:19I think McLaren
01:17:21will be very
01:17:21disappointed
01:17:22that they weren't
01:17:22a lot closer
01:17:23to it
01:17:24but I think
01:17:24as the weekend
01:17:24has gone on
01:17:25and I know
01:17:25it started
01:17:26in a scruffy
01:17:27way for George
01:17:28Russell and for
01:17:28Kimi Antonelli
01:17:29on the Friday
01:17:30as the weekend
01:17:31has gone on
01:17:32today
01:17:32they have looked
01:17:34a real prospect
01:17:35here and it is
01:17:35no surprise
01:17:36to me that
01:17:37George has gone
01:17:38out and taken
01:17:38that pole position
01:17:39Well both of his
01:17:42laps would have
01:17:43been pole
01:17:43that's always a
01:17:44telling sign
01:17:45isn't it
01:17:45he lucked into
01:17:48the rear suspension
01:17:49not folding up
01:17:50but he didn't
01:17:51luck into the
01:17:51laps or the
01:17:52pole position
01:17:53that's for sure
01:17:53I need to give it
01:17:54the once over
01:17:55that's for sure
01:17:55and pole here
01:17:56so crucial
01:17:5710 of the
01:17:58previous 15
01:17:59Singapore Grand
01:18:00Prix's have
01:18:01been won
01:18:01from pole
01:18:02David Coulthard
01:18:03looking cool
01:18:04down in
01:18:04Park Fermet
01:18:05has the
01:18:06microphone in
01:18:06his hand
01:18:07and he's
01:18:07with the
01:18:08top three
01:18:08Gentlemen
01:18:08congratulations
01:18:09first of all
01:18:10George Russell
01:18:11an amazing
01:18:12pole position
01:18:12but to
01:18:13Max and
01:18:14Oscar
01:18:14we're doing
01:18:15something a little
01:18:15bit different
01:18:16here guys
01:18:17sorry your
01:18:17mics are live
01:18:18sorry to bring
01:18:19you in
01:18:19but we're doing
01:18:20an interview
01:18:21as one
01:18:22so obviously
01:18:22you can't all
01:18:23speak at the
01:18:23same time
01:18:24but if you
01:18:25disagree with
01:18:25something
01:18:25please join in
01:18:26we're doing
01:18:27that for your
01:18:28benefit
01:18:28it's hot
01:18:29you want to
01:18:29get on with
01:18:30the rest of
01:18:31this
01:18:31so first of
01:18:31all George
01:18:32you put
01:18:33everything on
01:18:33the line
01:18:34there
01:18:34you were
01:18:34hard into
01:18:35the wall
01:18:36coming out
01:18:36of the
01:18:37second last
01:18:38corner
01:18:38brilliant pole
01:18:40position
01:18:41yeah thanks so
01:18:42much amazing
01:18:42to be on
01:18:43pole position
01:18:44yesterday was
01:18:45a very
01:18:46challenging day
01:18:47for many
01:18:48different reasons
01:18:48but it's good
01:18:50to come back
01:18:51get a good
01:18:51result
01:18:52today of course
01:18:53there's a long
01:18:53sweaty race
01:18:54tomorrow but I
01:18:55knew there was
01:18:56potential in the
01:18:56car Kimi was
01:18:57doing an amazing
01:18:57job all weekend
01:18:58and I actually
01:19:00gained quite a lot
01:19:00from seeing what
01:19:01he was sort of
01:19:02capable of doing
01:19:02yesterday afternoon
01:19:04so yeah very
01:19:05happy to be on
01:19:06pole
01:19:06yeah it was
01:19:06great
01:19:07Max you looked
01:19:08like you were
01:19:08in the hunt
01:19:09but I believe
01:19:10there might have
01:19:10been a mistake
01:19:11towards the end
01:19:11of the lap
01:19:12the final sector
01:19:13yeah that's what
01:19:14happens when
01:19:14there's a car
01:19:15in front of you
01:19:15just cruising
01:19:16two seconds
01:19:16in front
01:19:17so that's
01:19:18noted
01:19:19will be remembered
01:19:20as well
01:19:20who was that
01:19:22we didn't see
01:19:22that on screen
01:19:23not Oscar
01:19:24so yeah
01:19:26that was a bit
01:19:27of a shame
01:19:27otherwise I think
01:19:28it could have
01:19:28been close for
01:19:28pole
01:19:29it's always very
01:19:30exciting here
01:19:30in qualifying
01:19:31of course a little
01:19:32bit disappointed
01:19:33to not be
01:19:33to be first
01:19:34but for us
01:19:35this weekend
01:19:35so far
01:19:36it's been really
01:19:36good
01:19:36yeah the car
01:19:38has been very
01:19:39competitive
01:19:39you know
01:19:40so for us
01:19:40to be second
01:19:41again is
01:19:41very good
01:19:42okay so
01:19:43not Oscar
01:19:43happy enough
01:19:45with third
01:19:45you know
01:19:46this is all
01:19:46about big
01:19:47picture stuff
01:19:47as we get
01:19:48into the final
01:19:49part of this
01:19:49world championship
01:19:50battle
01:19:50yeah
01:19:51you know
01:19:53obviously
01:19:53I would have
01:19:53wanted more
01:19:53but I don't
01:19:54think
01:19:55I don't think
01:19:55we had four
01:19:56tenths in it
01:19:56to go and get
01:19:57poles
01:19:57so ultimately
01:19:58pretty happy
01:19:59feel like it's
01:20:00been a good
01:20:00weekend so far
01:20:01and built up
01:20:02through it nicely
01:20:03and yeah
01:20:04ultimately it was
01:20:05a pretty clean
01:20:05session so that's
01:20:06all I can ask
01:20:07for
01:20:07okay George
01:20:08finally just for
01:20:09you and we'll
01:20:10let you guys
01:20:10go and cool
01:20:11off
01:20:11this sets you
01:20:12up tomorrow
01:20:13best place to
01:20:14start
01:20:14you've got some
01:20:15tough competition
01:20:16right alongside
01:20:17you standing
01:20:18here and tomorrow
01:20:19on the grid
01:20:19yeah I mean
01:20:20Singapore's not
01:20:21been the kindest
01:20:22of me in the
01:20:23past and that's
01:20:25been through my
01:20:25own doing the
01:20:27majority of the
01:20:27time so I'm not
01:20:28going to get carried
01:20:29away with this
01:20:29pole position of
01:20:30course I'm it's
01:20:31the best place to
01:20:32start there's a
01:20:33good pole side
01:20:35advantage here so
01:20:35I'd like to think I
01:20:36can hold the lead
01:20:37into term one but
01:20:38obviously this guy on
01:20:39my left's pretty
01:20:39pretty good at race
01:20:40starts and sending
01:20:41it down the inside
01:20:42so I'll be keeping
01:20:43an eye
01:20:44yeah and he seems
01:20:44pretty fired up so
01:20:46anyway gentlemen
01:20:46thank you very much
01:20:47congratulations on
01:20:48your qualifying
01:20:48we'll let you go
01:20:49and cool off
01:20:50great effort by
01:21:00George Russell
01:21:00two very good
01:21:02laps in in Q3
01:21:04there and alongside
01:21:05Max Verstappen at
01:21:07the front of the
01:21:07grid that should be
01:21:09very very interesting
01:21:10tomorrow bearing in
01:21:11mind the history
01:21:12those two have had
01:21:13in the past
01:21:14Oscar Piastri the
01:21:15championship leader
01:21:15in third but
01:21:17crucially for him
01:21:18ahead of his
01:21:19teammate Lando
01:21:20Norris who starts
01:21:21from fifth it all
01:21:22set up then for
01:21:24what we hope will
01:21:25be a thrilling
01:21:27Singapore Grand
01:21:28Prix but there we
01:21:29go taking pole
01:21:30position as he said
01:21:30it's not always been
01:21:32the kindest place to
01:21:33him in the past
01:21:33when he was chasing
01:21:34down I think a
01:21:35couple of years ago
01:21:35and he made that
01:21:36late crash he was
01:21:37absolutely distraught
01:21:39but he takes a pole
01:21:41position Max Verstappen
01:21:42though you can thank
01:21:44your mate for that
01:21:45said Gian Piero
01:21:46Lambiesi his race
01:21:48engineer because it
01:21:50was Lando Norris
01:21:52we believe got in
01:21:54his way and
01:21:54potentially cost him
01:21:55from challenging that
01:21:56time from George
01:21:57Russell which was a
01:21:581.29.158
01:22:00and this is it
01:22:06let's have a look at
01:22:07this one
01:22:07in the end it was
01:22:10a couple of tenths
01:22:12away 1.182
01:22:14behind because he
01:22:15had to abort that
01:22:16lap
01:22:17yeah that's just him
01:22:22saying thanks very
01:22:24much
01:22:25I mean that is
01:22:29Singapore isn't it
01:22:30you know we see it
01:22:31so often with the
01:22:32traffic and things
01:22:34getting in the way
01:22:34but not a lot
01:22:35you can do
01:22:35with these cars
01:22:36you get affected
01:22:38from a car
01:22:38a couple of seconds
01:22:40up the road
01:22:40which is you know
01:22:42it's a pain
01:22:43and that's why
01:22:44they move over
01:22:45immediately normally
01:22:46if they know
01:22:46there's a car coming
01:22:47so I think he's
01:22:49just frustrated
01:22:49that Lando didn't
01:22:50move over before
01:22:51the chicane
01:22:52he doesn't have to
01:22:53within the
01:22:54regulations
01:22:54but it obviously
01:22:56hurt his front end
01:22:57as he turned into
01:22:58that corner
01:22:58a little bit
01:23:00and put him offline
01:23:01Isaac Hadjar
01:23:03looking a little bit
01:23:03frustrated as well
01:23:05we'll get to the
01:23:05bottom of that
01:23:06but your one two
01:23:07three George Russell
01:23:08Max Verstappen
01:23:09and Oscar Piastri

01:23:21had a bright idea
01:23:22a night race
01:23:23the first of its kind
01:23:25only problem
01:23:26it takes a bit more
01:23:27than just switching
01:23:28on a few lights
01:23:29to illuminate
01:23:30all of this
01:23:31the ice man himself
01:23:35the legendary
01:23:36Wim Hof
01:23:36is here in Singapore
01:23:38to share his
01:23:39expertise and methods
01:23:40with a guy who's
01:23:41pretty cool already
01:23:42and me
01:23:44breathe
01:23:46when you swing it
01:23:50to the right
01:23:51your front right
01:23:52wheel always goes
01:23:53over this little
01:23:54drain cover
01:23:55here
01:23:55this one here
01:23:56this one just here
01:23:57so it often
01:23:58snatches the front
01:23:59right
01:24:00and you have a
01:24:00lock up
01:24:00and you go
01:24:01straight on
01:24:01you really leave
01:24:02no stone unturned
